Going into this project, I didn't know what the subject would be. I received a donation from a fan, which turned out to be an Ibanez Jem in need of serious repairs. I'm not sure I can fix her, but I'll do my best and try to learn some things along the way. I can't finish everything in one episode, so we'll make a series of it, and I hope you enjoy!

Impressive work on that neck!
It’s looking better with each step.
Nice work , looks good so far 👍
Appreciate it! I've had my doubts whether it is salvageable, but it's looking up!
Wow that actually looks good. If I didn’t know it was completely missing I wouldn’t think anything of it. Seeing the unboxing video gave me anxiety as I would have just stopped there but you’re bringing it back to life very well. And will have a Korean made JEM after. Very cool
I’m optimistic now, and getting more so with each little bit of progress.
Any instrument, resurrected and brought back to playability looks good. I'm sure that with your fine work and expense some lucky player will love it.
If I'm lucky, I can finish it by Christmas, and if the school doesn't want it, I can gift it to a local child in need. I was thinking today that the school may not want a guitar with a Floyd Rose style bridge just for practical reasons. Anyway, I'll get it to some lucky kid(s) either way!
@@hacksguitarhobby Yea, after a day trying to teach kids while they're dive bombing the whole time, I'd need a stiff drink LOL.
OK.. good save so far.. those JEM 555 are worth a bit of money in good condition.. but a great one to gift to a youth..
This is the plan. Hope it goes to someone who really enjoys and learns on it.
Great tips!
Thanks!
Why did you decide to change the fretboard radius from approx. 16" to 12"?
Because I had to refret, and because a standard Floyd is setup for 12”. I also have other guitars with 12” radius and only wanted to buy a radius block that I was likely to reuse.
And you going to ignore the inlays for the front of the fretboard. Just buy the tree of life vinyl guitar inlay stickers and use it for the first two frets then fixing the botched inlays on the old fretboard
This particular model didn't have inlays on the first two frets. I'll think about the vinyl repair, though, for the "inlays" that were damaged during radius sanding. Here is an example of one from Reverb to show the inlays: reverb.com/p/ibanez-jem555-steve-vai-signature?hfid=84163861&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiApNW6BhD5ARIsACmEbkUtiVlnUonNWhYYF5N6kl-mRVbaEDCr9D2Xm5CtVzPz9edDX8o5ouMaAqgaEALw_wcB
