Clear, concise and informative review. Such a breath of fresh air from reviewers who like to speed run through their reviews like theyre being chased by a pack of wild hyenas.
I'm loving the game. It's a breath of fresh air, it's actually a cool exposition to another country's culture, traditions and art, via the influence. The only criticism I have is that Musubi should be used to upgrade Soh, and the villagers should be upgraded by repairing the village buildings. That would add stakes to village building.
10/10 most soulful game of the generation. It's the antithesis to movie games. No wannabe Hollywood nonsense here. AA the way forward to save today's rotten videogame industry. Don't listen to the game journos complaining about dumb stuff, they gave lesser games 10/10. If you're on the fence, absolutely get this game!
It feels like an indie game. Like, a mix of ideas that just work so well. I am enjoying it. And I prefer games that make you stick around for the gameplay loop, rather than padded exposition. So I don't mind the story not being so thick. Also, the base building parts are so quick and easy, that it's hardly a chore.
A Master hidden gem! I know it just came out, but i dont see a lot of people talking about it, and from the steam charts, it's under the 1k players atm. Sadly, not a lot of people aren't experiencing it right now! The design of everything from this game to the music just takes so much risk for making it into a tower defense game. I feel like this games existence is a personal attack on me(obviously not really). I was just talking to my buddies that Capcom doesn’t make many isometric’ish games. I also said that it’d be a pretty neat idea if they put out a spinoff isometric Monster Hunter game and this sort of makes me think it’s possible now.
This is a pleasant surprise, and I'm super happy it came to PC (and PC Game Pass). The best part of GP for me hasn't been saving money on 1 or 2 games I want to buy, but instead it's been the discovery of new games I'd otherwise never purchase. Really excited to try this out!
I never really play games like this but being Capcom and a huge MH and Japanese culture fan I’m stuck to it! Great game. Also if you’ve beaten Okami and have the save data you get a special outfit for both characters! And a sword skin for Soh
I have four villages so far and rebuilt three of them completely. I'm liking the game a lot! I thought it was gonna be repetitive, but each village ended having different play styles so it mixed it up enough
I liked the break that rebuilding the town gave me. I would get a chance to strategize and plan out how I wanted to attack my next mission and which characters I wanted to focus my Mitsubi on
I just beat the games main story, and i must say i was pleasantly surprised, by how different and good the game felt to play, and it was never dull because of the varied enemies and level design. A true Hidden gem in my opinion
I saw that they used self made miniature buildings and recorded fire works and explosions for the game, what an unique approach, made me really interested in it. Looks like they put a lot of love and ideas into it and that's what gaming needs these days, give ne anything that isn't soulless and only exists for money. I need some new hidden gems I can tell my friends of so I'm gonna play this
After playing just not what I hoped it to be. Wasn't really expecting some of the game mechanics like the Night/Day attacks and preparation which I didn't like. Combat is insanely satisfying and the art direction and polish of this game is extremely well done no bugs and performance issues at all. However, the awful story and weird cutscene sequences really took me out of whatever journey we were on. Was really looking forward to this game but it's definitely one of those games where you love it or not with little in between. I can see someone giving this game a 9 or even 10 but for me definitely a solid 6.
Played it for around 2 hours. 8/10 is a great score for this game. I would give it a 6.8 to 7. Dont know if it gets better but i got bored. It is to easy and the choices-strategy you can make with the villagers dont have any serious impact. Also the stages and things you do look the same
It should also be mentioned that the religious aspects from the deep cultural roots in buddhism shine through. Cyclicality, jobs being more what the villagers do and less who they are, kindness to nature, unity, shared rituals etc. It is crafted with pure love.
This reminds me of Okami . I mean purifying villages just like Okami but not heavily story heavy . I mean the folklore the nature related game plays it’s like I feel is like a successor of Okami . Since Okami is under capcom . If u think abt it
I personally like the base building aspect. One of the most satisfying things about the game is cleansing the land of defilement, to right wrongs. Fixing the villages up is also satisfying and visually pleasing. Statues get fixed, plants bloom. To have that in menus would not be as appealing. You could make it so there is not a wait time to fix things, do some sort of mini game to inspire people to build or something.
The point of making you run around the base to repair it is so you can appreciate how beautiful the game is. You're supposed to look around and see how the villagers improve the base. That's why you can pet all the animals and all the villagers have unique names. Repairing through a menu might have been a nice QoL but I believe the intention was to slow down and see the good you've done in the world.
Don't know if it would be better to handle the rebuilding part through menus. Perhaps allow you to do it in both ways for those in a hurry, or let you immediatly teleport to the part of the map that you want. Making the whole thing happen through menus would be more of a choice to save development time for other areas than to directly improve gameplay of that part of the game. Being able to actually see the villages being rebuilt has merit in itself, especially in a game where the narrative is done exclusively through visuals.
Curious as to why literally no one here noticed the basic framework of tower defense and hack and slash was done by brutal legend first ( as far as im aware). Regardless this looks like such a neat and focused building of that franework. Definitely need to try.

Then when it does load up, it just sits on a black screen with my user name up in the corner. I restarted my Xbox and it finally loaded, i played for like 30mins and then the game couldn't save.
