got all my teeth fix in Mexico last year and it cost me 868$ canadian money..!!!!...if I would of have it done in canada it would of cost at least 12,000$...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is one of the biggest problems with socialized medicine. the exorbitant price increases it causes. when things aren't socialized competition happily keeps an equilibrium to costs. when someone else pays prices for things goes up and up and up.
They won’t last long RIP to you
@@nickyalousakis3851that's not socialized medicine, it's trying to compete with America.
Look at American prices and how much doctors get paid down there. It's criminal
@@nickyalousakis3851 Private businesses and insurance companies cause exorbitant price increases. Socialised programs generally do the opposite, and decrease prices.
@@MindYerMoutthere are a lot of good dentists here.
Free dental, free heat pumps , free, free, free. Nothing is ever "free", someone somewhere has to pay. If you believe it's free then good chance you believe it's possible that budgets balance themselves.
The cost of the program per year is in the title of this video. Nobody believes that this program is free for the government and nobody believes that the government can invent money out of nowhere. We live in a society and the government's role is to help Canadians. How? Through progressive taxation, we implement programs that will be beneficial for the low and middle income Canadians who do not have a private dental plan. I work for an insurance company, I have a good private dental plan, I also pay taxes and my net income is much lower than my gross. Will it benefit me? No. I could be like you and say : "Nothing is free, I don't want my taxes to pay for a program that will not benefit me". But I live in a society that has made the choice to redistribute some wealth and help the citizens that are struggling more than me in life. This program will help children (I don't have any child, why would I care about children???) having access to dental care and eventually all Canadians who do not already have a private coverage. I want my taxes to pay for that much more than anything else. And the federal government did not announce that the income tax rates would increase for the median income distribution. So it doesn't harm me financially and it helps millions of Canadians to afford an essential care. I do not know how we can oppose this program except for ideological reasons or because you only care about yourself and you don't give a f*ck about other people's well being.
@@YanBrassard I totally agree with you. Even though I pay 40% my income as tax every year and I still fully support free dental, because I can get free dental after I retired. I do not have pension and no benefit after my 65 years old.
One thing to know is that if they estimate that it will cost 13b it is likely to cost way more.
What dentists are going to accept the payment structure
Dental insurance starts with those over 87 years old? How many teeth are left in that demographic?
Not many...which is a good thing for the program. However, many older seniors are chewing on the damaged dentures that they got 35 years ago.
I believe it is another scam like the $10/day childaycare
Canada/Life expectancy 81.75 years (2022) dental should be rolled right into the health care system for all. dental/Oral issues are indeed part of overall preventive health care.
If they're dead, and they have a gold tooth, the government will rip it out and pocket it. Long story short.
dam another one? the seniors in this country are not "needy". there are people that actually need this funding the older generation is not one of them. we have taken care of seniors in this country very very well. right now people who are under 40 need help because of the devastated system we have right now. no one can get a home no one pay less that 1k a month in rent and groceries are a joke. you dont need another tax break because you think its "fair". life isn't fair its about time someone told you

A couple questions…. Is there a yearly maximum per person like most plans? Also , who’s fee guide is this based on as every province has a different dental/denture fee guide ?

Yes like health care dental care should be for all Canadians. Making a combined income of greater than $90k is far from being rich!!!
It will take a lot more then that to regain people trust!
Let’s remember why this is being offered, it’s not because the NDP pressured the government and it’s not because the Liberal government cares about the public. It’s because the poles are showing that Liberal’s are sliding very fast in popularity and the Liberals are preparing for an election!
Remember the power that we have here. When we tell the government as a group that we are not happy with them, they deliver support to us!
But sometimes they give us crumbs instead of bread, then say we are not hungry anymore
If it was a conservative gov't they would be doing something similar. Your teeth are part of your body so that should be part of national healthcare program(s).
People can barely keep food on the table and a roof over there head so to help the government spends 13 billion dollars to benefit 20% of canadains how much more taxes will be expected to pay to cover this program
How about the rest of the population who does not have dental care - for adults
Hopefully that is where we are headed. At the moment, there are populations that are just less likely to be able to afford any out-of-pocket costs for needed dental treatment (e.g. kids and seniors). They are going to expand the program and hopefully one day we'll all have access to universal dental care coverage.
If you watched the entire video, it will be phased in for the rest of general population by 2025.
Finding a dentist that accepts this coverage is another issue that needs to be addressed. They claim to have a "limit " and once they have a few patients to meet their "limit " they turn down anyone needing treatment. Even my young child experiencing pain was turned away from every dental clinic I called because they were "at limit " for government assisted coverage
I work in dental in Calgary, we gladly see patients on all forms of government assistance, we never turn any patient away.
That is the dentist's digging for gold as they have been doing forever.
Some dentists will turn it down if the process to claim and collect is troublesome as well. I know many that turn you away if you can’t pay yourself and leave it to be collected from the practice. If they can’t collect you will never set foot in that office again on top of paying interest on what you owe. Going to be interesting to see how it all rolls out.
You just need to find a good dentist.
Someone that sees people not just $$$.

Is Jagmeet aware that some provinces (Ontario in mind) already have dental care for children. Couldn't help but notice the roll out begins with over 87 year olds. How many Canadians might be in that category requiring the publicly sponsored program and how many of them within travelling distance of a dental provider willing to accept whatever payment terms the feds are prepared to pay or is this up to the 87 year old to suss out . . .another "you pay now" and we'll do something for you when you file your taxes??
This is only the start of the program to cover the most needed bases on statistics... the all expanding in 2025, and hopefully one day we'll all have access to universal dental care coverage.
average life expectancy in canada is eighty two. no eighty seven year old has teeth anyway lol.
You, nor your dentist will be dealing directly with the Federal government. The program will be administered through The Sun Life Insurance Company. Many thousands of Canadians already have Sun Life dental coverage through their employer and dentists throughout the country are already dealing with and filing their invoices to Sun Life. Your getting a Sun Life Dental Insurance Policy, paid for by the government, rather than you paying for it or your employer paying for it. Dentists will be paid by Sun Life, the same as they are now.
@@chrisgraham2904 -- as a person intending on voting conservative, i can back this plan. this is a healthcare model similar to what switzerland has. this is how our entire healthcare model should be - it works. my hope is that all provinces adopt this system and allow all insurance companies to enter the fray and make it easier for more insurance companies to enter the market. won't be voting for them - but kudos to the ndp. my political hope is that we have a conservative govt with an ndp opposition. i don't think we need liberals anywhere in canada.

But that would mean doing the right thing. And this government is totally averse to that.

As a retired Dental Assistant, the majority of people over 87 do not have their own teeth, they wear dentures. This insurance is really not helpful for the majority of Candians.
Maybe now 87 year olds will have teeth
What? Are you implying the only the needs of the elderly matter? Maybe if they had better dental care in their youth they would still have teeth.
Yes it is, as a senior without a dental plan it will be enormously helpful: Seniors aged 87 and above starting in December 2023
Seniors aged 77 to 86 starting in January 2024
Seniors aged 72 to 76 starting in February 2024
Seniors aged 70 to 71 starting in March 2024
If im not mistaken dentures are a covered treatment under the dental plan
They really need to lower it to 65 years, once seniors retire and their regular income takes a hit.
Let me guess. Those of us who don’t have kids will be supporting families that do while still not having any coverage. Absolutely glad to help out the traditional families of the country (seriously).
But getting f*cked over and not getting any coverage while doing it is just a sad standard practice in Canada.
You already support every federal, provincial, and public sector employee with your tax dollars. Why should you not want to support kids and seniors. Why don't you contact Stewie Griffin (PP) and demand he cancel dental care for all of the above.
Do you make more than 90 grand a year?
People who have kids have bigger bills to pay so ya it’s fair.
It starts with the most vulnerable and with in 3 years you will be covered too. It is a huge roll out and can't be done over night.
Thank me later when my two kids are paying your senior benefits with their income taxes.
FYI my family is not covered under this program, because my company already covers it.
Keep in mind it is not free it is taxpayer funded. You pay and I pay.
Well instead of paying from your paycheck for dental plan you are paying it from taxes. It ends up saving money in the long run and you don't have to worry about not affording dental care for your family if you lose your job. Trying tie healthcare benefits to employment is ridiculous. Especially in the day and age where more and more employers are going out of their way to not provide health coverage.
And Trudeau gets the credit
It's debt-financed. Our taxes pay the interest on our debt. And the debt and those interest payments are growing rapidly.

Use an electric toothbrush correctly and you shouldn’t need the dentist.
Depends and you buying them for everyone?
@@HuplesCat 50 bones on amazon, think i might give one a whirl if it's approved by the american dental association- kevin mcallister
All kinds of talk. Who. Qualifies. ??? Can you not tell us ??
no wonder food and housing costs so much.....your paying for this.....its not free
Yup 13 billion we don’t have to spend. This country is bankrupted and all Singh wants to do is spend spend spend. Such of it all. The poor ppl in Canada already get free dental and if people not poor can’t pay for their dental then why are they having kids.
That's why we tax tax tax the ultra wealthy
" poor ppl in Canada already get free dental ". Where did you get that crap? Poor people in Canada do not get free dental. People on welfare or disability get fee basic dental care but everyone else does not.
We are gonna pay dental for 87yr olds first.
They will be dead before the dentures pop out of the mold.
Some of them may outlive you.
@@chrisgraham2904 no kidding.
At the rate this govt is bleeding the productive class they are definitely shaving off decades off my expectancy.
I need food no reason for dental senior here
Good to know how Pierre Poilievre voted on this deal....
Geez, by the time it makes it to me I will have paid out of pocket for my own work
I'm not they would need it they changed the food guide to get rid of carbs and sugar and encourage a larger consumption of meat especially beef.
the biggest winners in all of this will be the dentists. they'll be lining their pockets and laughing all the way to their banks off of the taxpayer dime. it'll be like winning the lottery for them.
What good are teeth when you can’t afford the food to use them on
Dentist here: The point here is to help the people that cant afford it. The government wants to avoid abuse. 70k is a household income -2 adults. Expect it to be less then 70k if you live alone... People could avoid moving in together -or telling the government they don't- because they want to have free dental.
Sure. Why wouldn't ppl do that? IMO the time to scam and take what you can is here. That's the Canadian way now.
Im single and make like $14,000 a year. I cant afford it yet I dont qualify for this.
@kylen4701
You can lie for your free dental.
But it'll catch up to you.
CRA has 6 years to collect.
Just ask all the people that have been in the news recently that are crying "woe me" because they just recieved a notice to pay back the $15k in cerb they took - that they lied about.
Dentist here did a pile of dental work on a Syrian refugee family. Government was supposed to pay him, they ended up paying for one filling. He was actually surprised he even got that. He already figured he was getting stiffed
@@balto4 Are you on welfare or Disability? You will qualify. It's for those with low incomes. You may have to wait till 2025 when everyone under a certain amount will qualify.
Don't worry folks the budget will balance itself
Remove all services for people and the budget will balance itself.
Don't tell me they neglected to include the cost of freezing. More Tax Hike !!! Big Pain !!!
Are Canadians going to be served first?
Who's going to pay for it?
