    Jaimie and Jay make a DIY ghost mirror for Halloween! Inspired by stories like Bloody Mary and Candyman, we decided to make our own version using an old mirror from Goodwill, a screen, and a motion sensor to scare trick-or-treaters on Halloween! This project was inspired by our DIY Smart Mirror we made last year and uses similar techniques!

    The key element of the prop is the "ghost" who appears in the mirror when you walk up to it, and it's actually Jaimie! We shot footage of her in makeup and then sent it to video editors and artists on Fiverr.com to turn it into something completely different! Our direction to them was to add some visual effects, glitches, unnatural sounds, etc. and basically to make Jaimie as scary as possible. They NAILED IT! It came out so good and we're super happy with the results of the project. :)
    Halloween 2021 is almost here!! 🎃 We make lots of DIY Halloween Props for our yard haunt and our newest project is a DIY HAUNTED GHOST MIRROR! This is an ambitious DIY Halloween Prop that combines a two-way mirror with a motion sensor and media player to play ghostly effects on a mirror when unsuspecting trick-or-treaters walk up to it!
    The great thing about this DIY Halloween project is that you can play any videos you want on the mirror!

    Second project today. Making a ghost with some cheese cloth and a 3 foot wide balloon supported by some wire and tape to hang in a tree. To make it more fun, dunk the cheese cloth in white glow in the dark paint.

    I like it, but I think it would be a better application in a haunted house set up like on your porch. Set the lights to be on good, then when motion is detected, the lights go down & your ghost appears seamlessly.

    So a 6' beach ball on Amazon is about $40. Some lime green felt is $10 a yard, need about 10 yards. A giant sized plastic egg, bowl, ect (something for the eye you can paint on that's smooth) is $10. Use the beach ball as your pattern. Some 2 " memory foam from Hobby Lobby $50.. Use the left over memory foam for the legs and arms. Some rubber for the bottom of the feet are $8 on Amazon.. I think this year we need to make a life sized Mike Wazowski costume. Let it sit in the yard or front porch looking all innocent for the longest time... Then on the day of Halloween someone perhaps climbs into it! Jump scare time.. :) Great thing about making it this way it it'll be machine washable if you know how to sew! And the kids get a new giant beach ball to play with if you don't wreck it.
    That's my share idea for the day. Nice video of the mirror working.

  • @danmundy36
    @danmundy36 2 года назад +11

    This is almost perfect. You should try a short delay on the motion sensor so the video only starts after, say 5 seconds of looking in the mirror. This would really make it awsome. Great job guys

  • @101perspective
    @101perspective 2 года назад +5

    I think what would be spookier is if you used a camera and did a live feed so that they see themselves. However, you then do effects to their image. Like maybe have it randomly slow down so it gets out of sync. Or maybe have a green wall behind them and you use it as a green screen and maybe do effects on the wall like hands moving under the wallpaper. You could even have a ghost walk behind them.

  • @kevinshumaker3753
    @kevinshumaker3753 2 года назад +25

    This is Excellent!
    Another thought: Using a camera to basically take a shot of the 'victim' live, as the 'mirror', then start the video. So that the 'live' shot is on most of the time (the mirror) , but then when motion is detected, turn on your VFX video. That way, you can just use a monitor (or rear projector/screen) to reduce the need for the darkness contrast of the 2 way mirror...

      @@GregPackard Not that bad. Pi3B+ or 4B, USB Web Cam, HDMI Monitor, PIR Sensor, Some Python Coding. Grab camera video for your 'ghost' using the same setup. (Keeps the same background). If using a projector and either back projection or High front projection screen needs a few mods. Apps like OMXPLAYER and VLC can take both USB camera and MP4 video as sources.

    Very cool! I think the final demo was a bit too dark though. I was too obvious that it was a screen behind the mirror. I'd bring up the lighting just a bit more. Overall, I love it! It would be great as a bathroom mirror for a Halloween party. People would essentially have no choice but to see it since they'd be in front of it washing their hands. Can you adjust the sensitivity on the motion sensor? Thanks for sharing. 🤘💀

      @@WickedMakers I thought of that after I clicked send...lol. If are able to adjust the sensitivity on the motion sensor it will ensure the scare doesn't get wasted until the person is closed enough. So, for the bathroom example, you don't want the person to witness this until they wash their hands. So, if possible, turn down the sensitivity on the sensor and position it near the faucet...cheers and happy haunting. You guys rock 🤙

    One way mirro folks, a two way mirror would be a mirror on both sides and you wouldn't see anything other than what's in front of that respective side, most ppl get this wrong but it's a common error. Anyway, good vid, my fav is still the portal but I like all of the projects you've done vids for. ya should use both the fixed footage with a HD video projector showing onto a white sheet in the windows of your house at halloween . i would (just an idea ) modify a green screen sheet make it like a cover with a hole just large enough for someone's head to be out and video that way and have someone on fiverr make the person look like a floating screaming corpse head.... that would be wicked for the mirror or showing on a sheet in the windows at halloween with the other two :p

    First of all, Jaimie. You are completely adorable and you with the ghost makeup on made you look like an adorable goth girl. Not scary. Creepy but adorable...🥰

    Imagine an even more advanced version of this, you could have lidar sensors and glasses-less 3d screen, and have a computer take the lidar image and convert it to a 3d mesh and then add images to that, so you could have the person's own face change and be tracked to their face as the try to move around. Have thing happen behind them and have it actually look like its behind them in the mirror.

    This was one awesome DIY project - I made 2 mirrors with monitors behind it, and in the end one has been purposed to make a make up table, where I made an electrical switch to switch from front lighting to backlighting - so the one hiding behind it becomes visible. Only a week away for going live!

    So I know one of the old school film tricks was to actually choreograph everything backwards then master it into the main film reel in reverse so that your ghost or vampire while moving "forwards" all of the movements were just slightly off in a way that was very good at triggering the uncanny valley response.
