Can you post the values of all the capasitors of the antenna. I have swapped some before, but then used coax cable as capasitors. So you can cut them to whatever value you need. works very well!!
Hi there Jonathan. Thanks a lot for this video. I also have a faulty V2000 and this gave a beautiful insight in how to disassemble and repair the antenna. However my issue might be a little different as it seems to be wind-dependant (and it works best with a nice breeze) and I am assuming a bad solder joint. If you want to 'see' the behaviour of my antenna, look for my call and V2000 on youtube. Wonder what you would think about this -- that video is on a non-windy day. 73 for now!
Hi Anton, I won’t claim to be an expert on these antennas, it would be worth stripping the antenna down and reflowing solder wherever you see a joint. There really isn’t an awful lot else to go wrong with them - unless it is a mechanical problem with the two sections not having a good join? Good luck. 73
Hi Jonathan. Do you have the, values of the othet caps on that assembly. My v2000 has a very high vswr but it was not either of the two you changed. Many thanks.. Pat.
Hi Pat, I don’t I’m afraid. I was lucky that I could just make out the markings on mine. I’m sure you can understand I’m not too keen to take my antenna apart again! You could ask some the the retailers if they happen to have mechanically broken one that you could purchase for parts?
Hi Jonathan. The story is I bought the V2000 second hand. The VSWR on 2m is around 1.7 : 1 across the band and > 5 : 1 on 70cm. Regards, M0CKQ. I guess it would be logical to replace all disc ceramics if I knew their values 😊
TNX Johnathan yes I have the same on top of the roof been up for 3 years with no problems touch wood .Good video 73
I suspect I was just unlucky! 73 Barry!
Rather than removing the solder connections Jonathan, cut the old component out and leave a short leg. Solder onto that.☘️👍
Good point Donal. 73!
Well done mate. Now you have two! One for portable now.
Thanks Tom.
Nice helpfull video Johnathan good insight into the internals of the V2000....good to see you back again..73s de G7WBB (Alan)
Thanks Alan. 73!
NO DEBEN SER CERÁMICOS. SIEMPRE MICA

Not without taking the antenna apart again, which I’m not too keen on doing! Apologies!

@@M0JSX As far as I know yeah, that joint is secure. I will have to take it down, hopefully one of the next weeks and find out.
@@pc4ad i beth it's the coax cable..
Nice work job well done. Hope to work you on air sometime

Why not replace them all with they higher rated caps?
It’s a good point, but I’m not an antenna designer and there must be other reasons Diamond chose the value they did. 👍🏻
Hi Jonathan, I have a V2000. The match of 2m and 6m is fine, but the VSWR on 70cm is very high. Any ideas ?
I’m not an expert at these things, but I’ll try to help. Has the SWR always been poor on 70cms?

Oh no ....wrong tip used for removing those caps
The only tip I have. The iron is long due to be thrown in the bin! 73!
