Fun fact: Domino's Japan offers a crust option called the "triple millefeuille." You can get it with any pizza option, and it is 3 layers of ultra thin crust with a Camembert cheese sauce in between each layer. It is the heaviest, cheesiest thing I've ever had the pleasure of consuming.
Japan makes everything extraordinary, glad its 5 hours away from my country (altho it is because of flight time)

This is one of my absolute favorite videos on youtube. A super confident abomination cook who stopped caring 10 years ago and a new team member chef who is trying to follow after his instructor but seems a little blazed. Honestly, they both seem blazed. I absolutely adore this combo and I can't stop grinning while watching them.

I started to think it was because the bottom of the pizza is a crust (1st deck), the hole where Josh cut (2nd deck) and the top pizza layer (3rd deck). I could be wrong and be over thinking it too.

Insider Info: Pizza Hut used their thin crust dough for this and did cut a circle in the middle. That permitted the bottom to vent and let the layers melt together to create a center seal. The top dough was also sealed to the outer edge with a roller. This created stable slices of pizza when cut and served. Without the center hole, everything just kind of flops around. This was a genius feat of pizza engineering. True story.
Original thin crust made in store was so good.
I forgot about the hole. It could easily be done at home with a biscuit or dounut cutter. I make mine without the hole and they come out just fine.

The question of "Are you dead before you are alive" could be viewed as a philosophical debate, but I'd argue it comes down to the same types of semantics discussed on the podcast. Being dead is the absence of life, before being born is the absence of life, therefore, you are dead before being born. That could absolutely be argued is the same tongue-in-cheek manner as the topics on their show.

I worked at a Pizza Hut in '96/97. Triple deckers were made with their thin crust dough. The pepperoni pieces were thicker than slices, like the diced style that are on frozen pizzas. We never counted out 90 pieces, we just filled a spec cup and spread it over the cheese, which was considered one of the three "decks".

I worked there as well. I remember being taught to hang the crusts over the edge of the pan and using the roller to trim the edges and seal the crusts. The hole in the middle is 100% necessary.

When I worked at pizza hut this guy used to just order sauce to make homemade pizza.
I'm sorry you guys missed out on recreating what was a truly wonderful topping-forward experience. You should review all the comments from the late 90s Pizza Hut employees (like me) and recreate this correctly with thin crust. An authentic Triple Decker pizza would never be chewy. PIZZA HUT, BRING THIS BACK!
It was quite possibly the best pizza I ever had. I specifically asked for it for my birthday and had it several times afterwards. Whatever it is they made in this video, it definitely was not comparable to the original.
They should just call it "double deckoroni" and bring it back.

Cook Pizza Well
I worked at Pizza Hut. The proper way to do this would be to get A 12 inch deep dish pan, spray it with Pam. Then lay a 14 inch thin crust in the pan so that they dough is overlapping the sides of the pan. Press it firm against the edges. Put your toppings in then put another 14 inch crust on top of the pan, press the two pieces of dough together and go around the top of the pan with a roller cutting off the excess dough. Top and bake.
Also thin crust isn't just about the thickness of the crust- it's a different dough. It's made with much less water. So that it gets nice and crispy inside the oven.

5:46 the store I work at the sauce is pretty liquidy, like Ragu sauce, idk if different regions do it differently and if it's just like that in the Midwest, but it's not like that at the specific store I work at.

I can tell you as someone who worked at Pizza Hut in the 1990s, the quartering of the pepperoni was a style choice for the commercial, we used 90 whole pepperoni. Also the hole was a real thing, as guessed, to vent steam.
We had just switched to frozen dough from dough we mixed and rolled ourselves, but I can say your dough was WAY to thick and wet ( when we mixed it ourselves it was a much drier dough).

this is absolutely perfect and its beautiful
My sister actually made this for my birthday one year, only not exactly like they did in the video. it turned out Beautifully! the 1st deck had very gooey and stringy cheese, the top had pepperoni, beef, sausage and bacon with six cheese blend, and the crust was nice and crisp yet chewy. It also helped that she made her own sauce with a bunch of herbs and spices to really bring out the taste.
If people can put in the extra ingredients, the variety of cheese, and the extra herbs and spices for the sauce, I guarantee that it would be a GREAT pizza.
