The 680zx not only sounds the best but looks the best. I like a large window on cassette doors so I can see more of the tape and movement. It seems windows got smaller and smaller as time went on. Unfortunate.

Hi ! Another great test on your channel. Have you ever had the opportunity to listen to or repair Tandberg 3014A? Apparently it's quite a cult tape recorder...

Your microphone does an amazing job at capturing the sweet sound of your speakers.

That’s audio interface. I edit video for about an hour after filming to achieve that clean stitch between mic and ADC.

well i have all those decks and i didn´t open yet the box of the DR-10 as most of them came from my father ,i had already the 680ZX the 700ZXL ,the BX-2 and the cassette deck 1and with acoustic music they do reveal how good they can sound, the cassette deck 1 is maybe one of their best decks or maybe i didn´t use it so heavilly like earlier ones having at the time already the option of digital recording first with a DAT deck(that it was really expensive but had a incredible high quality for home use), than in the 90´s appeared the CD-R and minidisc so maybe it is why it still works so good and as all the functions a good deck should have, the first i bought that amazed me was the 680ZX. My father had at the time all the better or more expensive cassette decks, that i only use them to record to cassette, LP´s that he had bought and i couldn´t afford having all at the time that he either than cars was where he spent most of his money

Opinions are completely subjective....meh. My 700ZXL gives me the most pleasant, 'warm' sound in most music. The RX-505 the coldest and most analytical.

@@TheReal1953 i also like the 700ZXL the one i used the most and still in use , but we were talking about quality not personal preferencies ,if personal i think the Dragon was the worst deck ever because of the not so good sound and worst built deck ever, i had two kept none ,it doesn´t only have to work in the first days but normally they work perfect for 50 years also the DR-10 was the cheapest model of the last series the DR-1 was the better one comparable with other top end models from nakamichi, also my first nakamichi was the 680ZX, the DR-1 is basically the same of the Nak. model" cassette deck 1"some don´t understand when i refer to the cassette deck 1 ,the before top end model.
The 1000 ,the 1000ZXL(both editions)ZX-9, CR-7a ,cassette deck 1 and DR-1 were the top end models, the RX-505 is also good but i have a special edition bought by my father when he last travelled to Japan and i think it´s the RX-909 ,also a Dragon but in grey, also have a LX but don´t know the reference and he bought me the last Pioneer cassette deck the T-1000 with AD - DA recording semi - digital

@@RUfromthe40s The Dragon was never my favorite deck. Yet it became the undeserved icon of Nak. For yrs & yrs on the Naktalk forum, most posts were about how to fix Dragons. I never said the 700ZXL was the 'best' Nak, but my personal favorite....it exudes quality with its big tanklike transport/flywheel and user frieindly controls. I even have the three mic set and mixer along with the external Dolby unit. I've never used the mics. Getting too serious with cassette decks begs the question, 'Why aren't you using RTR?' And so I do.

@@TheReal1953 yes ,i agree i didn´t said it was the best but the one i´ve used the most as i bought it ,all others were my fathers buyings, but i also got dragon strucked, in paper had all to be a great deck but they (nakamichi ) built it from the cheapest materials they could find and in 82 the cassette was ,in my case the most used component , but even using only perfectelly built cassettes it did not last one sumer but in cold regions the deck also heats a lot making the plastic parts in the play/record section out of shape first making strange vibration as we play or record cassettes , as an example for a few years BASF were my favorite cassettes but in 1985 they started to be heavy on rotation putting any deck out of tune and nakamichi Dragon was destroyd by using those i´m refering to the ones that stoped having a big window, later in 96 i bought some BASF cassettes like the maxima I and the super II also some maxima IV and II in packs of two ,the only who still plays is one maxima I c60 the maxima IV was really good sounding but when making rewind in one it broke when arriving to the start(i tried to fix it but the tape was so thin that it seem to melt in my hands and i had just bought a new Pioneer deck that when starting to make the BLE due to the strenght needed to rotrate it appeared the message error, not because it recognise the brand but when making a extra effort to rotate the cassette it stoped ,and in the manual was written to never use BASF cassettes, the main reason why all dragons were out of work was the bad quality in some cassettes ,they could be expensive but not well built ,i´ve started in 82 using maxell cassettes and basf but in 85 basf went bad and maxell till early 90´s kept releasing good cassettes but through the 90´s the only brands who still sold well built cassettes was SONY and TDK, in 2017 i was only using digital recorders but i put new belts in a Pioneer deck ,the ct-959 bought in late 1990, i notice that in music with a lot of tracks in each channel the digital recorders except the DAT were sounding not that good and i when having the CT-959 working like new again i noticed the quality of sound superior to the minidisc who i had two top end models from Denon and Pioneer ,but the cassettes were far superior in sound, ifn the music was acoustic or two guitars and drums with voice the minidisc recorded all perfect but when recording more complex studio recordings it was easy to notice the superior quality of the cassette, and when the great surfaces stoped selling cassettes i had a friend working in a warehouse of one of those hypermarkets and he phoned me saying they were going to incinerat6e a lot of cassette boxes, i went there with the biggest car i had and filled it with boxes of tdk sa and sa-x also some sony ux-pro ,the reason why i still have sealed cassettes as i started to use them again ,only in late 2017. and other thing i notice was that 70´s good decks were more resistant and could handle worst built cassettes without being destroyd, i even recorded some scoth cassettes because i used to record albuns to reels the cassettes were more to listen in the car and i still have today working perfect some 70´s decks that belonged to my father as the nakamichi 1000 who had a separated module of NR but not dolby ,the highcom system was their option and believe it or not a 74 cassette deck after calibrated it recorded with great sound some cassettes as it had been restored in england by a old nakamichi technician where my sister lives, later all decks were sent there to be restored this from nakamichi ,but i have to refer that in 82 i bought either than the dragon a BX-2 and it never needed repair only regular maintenance and some belts changed, but i have 79 philips cassette decks that record with a high quiality even today as the CT-F1000 from Pioneer(76) and the CT-F1250(79, this one records and plays above the 1000ZXL, in paper seems better but the Pioneer is muuch above) from Pioneer as the Phase linear 7000 also and a Blaupunkt deck and a Schneider, from late 70´s, i don´t refer akai but they were the best in reel recorders i prefer to by the akai in 79 then them Pioneer reel deck that today for some reason all call it blue series ,but Pioneer used blue displays since early 70´s,mostly in the receivers before 76/77 catalog, sorry for the long coment but i´m at work and i have time ,already retired but have agriculture as a family business, and i´ve worked today for two hours before opening the internet , regards
