Thanks for watching. This video is meant to focus on the Yugoslav-era spomeniks and modernist structures, which tends to limit the timeframe of history discussed. I did mention there were injustices committed against Albanians during the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, which set up subsequent acts of revenge during WWII. But please feel free to correct or elaborate on any information I may have gotten wrong or that is incomplete!

      Just Albania, my friend.
Skanderbeg was an Albanian warrior. He was not alone.
He fought together with other Albanians against the Ottoman Empire.
Serbia = Servia = to serve. Slav = Slave! You serve as Slaves at the time of the Roman Empire.

      That's all about it.
But you serbs all you have is lïes.
Dobrica Ćosić: “A lie is a Serbian national interest.”
Serbian politician and author Dobrica Ćosić once stated that “a lie is a Serbian national interest.” He has also stated that “We (Serbs) lie to deceive ourselves, to comfort another; we lie out of shame, to encourage, to hide our misery, we lie for the sake of honesty. We lie for the sake of freedom. A lie is a form of Serbian patriotism and a confirmation of our innate intelligence. We lie creatively, imaginatively, inventively.“
      Translation of the image:
“A lie is a Serbian national interest.“
“A lie is in the very being of a Serb.”
“In this country, every lie eventually becomes the truth“.
“Serbs have been saved by lies so many times in history…”

19th Century - Ottoman Decline and Serbian Nationalism
    • As the Ottoman Empire weakened, Serbia began expanding its territory into Albanian-inhabited lands. After the Congress of Berlin (1878), Serbia annexed parts of Albanian territory, including the Sanjak of Nish, leading to the expulsion of thousands of Albanians.
    • Those who remained faced violence, forced assimilation, and dispossession of their land.
The Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes/Yugoslavia (1918-1941)
    • After World War I, Kosovo became part of the Kingdom of Serbia, later Yugoslavia, where Albanians faced severe repression. The government initiated a colonization program, settling Serbs and Montenegrins in Kosovo to alter its demographic makeup.
    • Albanians were systematically displaced, denied education and cultural rights in their language, and subjected to forced assimilation policies.
    World War II (1941-1945)
    • During the war, Kosovo came under Italian and later German administration, granting Albanians temporary autonomy. However, post-war Yugoslav forces reclaimed control, resuming repression against the Albanian population.
    Communist Yugoslavia (1945-1989)
    • Under Tito’s regime, Albanians in Kosovo were politically and economically marginalized. Despite gaining provincial autonomy in the 1970s, they were still treated as second-class citizens.
    • The 1981 student protests demanding equal rights and republic status for Kosovo were violently suppressed, with thousands of Albanians arrested or persecuted.
    The Milosevic Era (1989-1999)
    • Slobodan Milosevic’s rise to power marked a turning point, with Kosovo’s autonomy revoked in 1989. This led to widespread political and economic repression:
    • Albanians were removed from public sector jobs, and the education and healthcare systems in the Albanian language were dismantled.
    • Protests and peaceful resistance were met with brutality, culminating in the Kosovo War (1998-1999).
    • During the war, Serbian forces committed ethnic cleansing, massacres, and systematic violence against Albanians. Approximately 1 million Albanians were forcibly displaced, and thousands were killed.
    Aftermath and Historical Memory
    • The war ended in 1999 after KLA and NATO intervened, liberating Kosovo from Serbian control. However, the scars of decades of repression remain deeply ingrained in the collective memory of Albanians.
