How The Only Pikachu In The World Turned A Bad Character Into A Champion

- Axe is a risk-taker.
He devoted the better part of his life to Super Smash Bros. Melee - a game that could never be a career for anyone but the world’s best players. And he did it with a character everyone said would never be a winner.
Except everyone was wrong.
Axe devoted 13 years of his life to Pikachu, a low-tier that shouldn't have been able to win in a game dominated by a select few top tiers. And after more than a decade of grinding, he finally won.

To clarify why Walgreens Drake is so hilarious, it's because someone who was unfamiliar with the melee scene found him working at a Walgreens and made a fan page, for Walgreens Drake. The person who made the page had no idea that Axe was already famous. Eventually it blew up enough to be found by someone in the melee community and it's been a meme since
r/themoreweknow
I honestly thought it was just a poke that the community directed towards him upon gaining knowledge of his profession. That is definitely more entertaining lol
Thats creepy low key.
Someone saw a guy working at a shop and made a fanpage for him ??? b-based

Everytime I see the winning moment of Smash Summit 8 I almost cry myself. He's such a nice person and I feel with him
and then you see moky in the back with the lightning mcqueen hat.
It always almost ruins it for me, right up until I realize that it's kinda perfect.
You know that noone gives a shit

Bro I cried when he won because I knew how big of a deal it was. Also how nice of a guy he is. His dad was watching the stream as well which made it even more wholesome then it already was. And I showed my little sister and even she cried because of how wholesome Axe is.

God 2019 was the year of Pikachu.
Detective Pikachu comes out making it one of the first good video game movies, axe wins his first major in melee, esam wins his first in ultimate and even ash wins his first official pokemon league.

corny D1 is so fucking hype. Check out some of Wobble’s icies combos with him commentating and he goes fucking off. At the end of the video “Wobbling: bad to banned”, there’s a clip with Wobbles and it’s fucking incredible.

I remember there was a tank meta in league, then there was a top bruiser meta, the things is it shouldn't be any meta at all.
I used to always pick Pikachu when I was little, then years later when I discovered the competitive scene I was surprised to see that there was only one person using Pikachu competitively. I instantly became an Axe fan and rooted for him for years. When he finally won that major I cried along with him. I love not only his play style but also who he is as a person, I can't wait to see more from Axe and Pikachu.
Ive never even played this game but absolutely love watching their esports scenes documentaries and stories. I watched that famous melee documentary and its probably one of my favorite of all time. great video guys

Dude, Melee is so much more hype nowadays. Wizzrobe and Axe are ushering in a new age where Marth, Fox, Puff, Peach, and Falco aren't the only competitive characters.
Wizzrobe plays Captain Falcon and Axe has even busted out Young Link.
as someone who played and still plays melee while maining pikachu, i'm proud of this guy
He's the real champ.
Pikachu main for life too. His movement is just nothing any other char has. It's like flying, speed God. You control space itself around you, with thunder and quick attack moving wherever you want to.
Nothing can compare.

I see Axe, I click.
Easily the most wholesome and likeable guy in all of the melee community.
I love the bond he shares with his main, he genuinely enjoys playing pikachu the most and that’s why he chose to stick with him.
Players like Axe and Amsa are so hardcore. Always hype to see them play. They are truly one of a kind and all of their sets are serious treasures; you will never ever see lower tiered characters played that well ever again.
Also, Axe didn't just win a major with Pikachu, he won SUMMIT with Pikachu. It's not like there's chances for random ass pool upset that prevent him from possibly playing a top player later on...everyone at Summit is a top player, they were invited there. There's also not nearly as much tournament pressure as other majors because of how private the tourny itself is; the actual sets are played in a room that only the two players occupy, zero outside distractions. So it's a tournament full of the best players playing at their best. Of all the majors in the year, Summit is the one that holds the most weight.
Axe is honestly so nice, one of the most lovable players :)

Ever since I witnessed that 4 stock live, Ive always rooted for this guy. I love how humble and nice he is and so respectuful to everyone including the newcomers.

Yo, I love this man. Daniel, I love you, homie. Your voice, your energy, and your facial expressions make me, as the viewer, feel like you genuinely care about all of this stuff. It's much more enjoyable to watch a video when you feel like the production side enjoyed making it.
Keep up the great work, man!

I teared up when even "unemotional" persona Wizzy hugged Axe. He knew how important that moment was for Axe and for all of the Melee community.
Damn... I just got into competitive melee but after understanding the history behind Axe's win and what it took to get there, seeing him cry made me tear up ngl
By no means is Pikachu a bad character in melee but yes, I never thought that anyone would win a major with Pikachu.

"Pika pika *MADAFAKA!!* "
I have always thought pikachu was strong as hell, nice to see this guy win. In the first smash he is basically unbeatable when played well too.
Correct. Pikachu is actually considered the best character in 64. And throughout all the games, he is actually a top/high tier character (except maybe Brawl, but IIRC he had a good MU spread there and does fairly well vs. MK). Pikachu just had it good all around.
He's the real-life Ash Ketchum.
Serrator Oceanic but he actually wins
And doesn't release all his pokemon every season
It makes me happy to see this channel cover melee instead of just LoL/CSGO/Dota

"The Only Pikachu in the World" is a bit disrespectful to all the hardworking Pikachu mains out there tryin to grind up and get this level of recognition lol
Okay
And? So you are both recognizing that they need to work more until they get recognition and want them recognized?
@@MEGAlarfy Of course, you need to get results to get recognition. That wasn't the point of what I said at all. The point was that saying he's "the only Pikachu in the world" is disrespectful to other Pikachu mains, it's acting as if they don't exist at all and he's the only person that plays Pikachu.
A better video title would be "the only top-level Pikachu in the world"
@@theSato this video is talking about the competitive scene. If they're unknown or unviable, they're not going to be recognized. If hes the only one people consider a viable pikachu main, I'd also consider him the only pikachu
@@MEGAlarfy There are Pikachus in the competitive scene. I'm not asking for the other Pikachu players to get recognition, just to not act or say things like there aren't any other Pikachu players in the world. Your opinion doesn't really invalidate that so I'm not sure what you're commenting for
Bruh arent they exagerating a bit with that title? I get that pikachu wasnt much used or anyone master it correctly but i think if ppl has guts to stick with a character they like and sees the potential in it they can achieve big things like Abate and his luigi, shroomed with his doc and others.
I mean, pika is mid tier in melee, right? Hes fine, but not great. Bad seems a bit exaggerated.
I mean, winning a major with a mid tier is rough. We haven't even had a solo sheik win a major in a decade, and she's high tier. Falcon had a similar run until Wizzy recently. Doc and Luigi are the main comparisons, and I don't see either of them ever winning a major unless something crazy happens.
Melee is a game where the top 10 or so characters are good, but the top 6 are incredible, with the top of the pyramid even higher. Pikachu isn't Bowser/Kirby, but when comparable characters only get top 8 once in a blue moon, taking a proper major is actually insane.
