Great video! You really know your stuff. I moved here from Jacksonville Florida a few years ago and knew little to nothing about what was here. The only funny thing is normally you can’t name everything that’s in a city because there’s too much to name lol but I think you got it all. Birmingham’s been a welcoming and friendly city, but I definitely miss the water from back home. Working at UAB was a game changer for me the people there are so kind and really do a great job at keeping the family vibe even though it’s a large institution. 😊
Thanks so much for your wonderful comment, Lilly! We are so glad you moved here and are loving it. UAB is a great place to work! I tried to hit all of the major highlights about Birmingham, so thank you for your positive feedback! 😌

Atlanta is a good place to live location wise too! It is defininely a lot busier than Birmingham, you're right! One of my favorite things about living in the Bham area is also how close it is to the ocean/mountains, you can go in just a short day trip! Thanks for watching!

Congratulations! Yes, you will need a car to get around Birmingham. There is some public transportation, but it's very limited compared to other larger cities. Although if you stay at UAB you will have a lot of resources around you, so you can go without a car in that area.
Looks appealing compared to where I am living now that I am trying little by little to get the hell out of.. Portland OR area. I am honest and blunt so that will be my initial statement. I like the fact that AL whether it be Birmingham, Huntsville, or Montgomery as possibilities is that it accommodates those who find it and they all want the right kind of transplants. The people of AL do not mass advertise so the hordes can all come in though from everything I see. I admire that they kept their state like this. It has such a climate where people never move in droves and it stays enjoyable for those who do want in on it. Most I met from AL online I have gotten along with. My ex babysitters oldest son moved to Montgomery from my hometown in Mass I believe and hes lived there 25 yrs now or close to it. Hes a yankee that hasnt left so he liked something about it. His accent even changed I think.
Thanks for the comment! Yes, Huntsville and Birmingham are both great cities in Alabama to live in and they are both growing. Montgomery is good as well. Alabama is definitely a change of scenery from Portland (and if you make the move I bet you'll pick up an accent as well!).
@@diannahowellrealtor you reply fast.. You dont screw around. Those cities may be growing but probably not as fast as Nashville I'm thinking. Oh what about Mobile? Some dont recommend it although i know its on the gulf.
@@MeltinJohn I try to reply to comments once a day! Nashville is a great area to live! Lots of things to do and it is a bigger city environment. You're right, Nashville definitely is growing more than Huntsville and Birmingham are. I like visiting Mobile, but I'm not sure that it would be a city I would prefer to live in. Just started watching but I already know safety will not be covered not to be racist. I’m thinking about moving from FL to AL but very concerned about 70% BLM, wish anyone covered that, maybe it’s not THAT bad? I see houses for around 40k, would love to grab one and have no mortgage, are these all in very bad areas?
If the homes you are looking at are in downtown Birmingham for $40K, then I would say these may not be in the safest areas. When you get outside of Birmingham in some of the more rural areas, you may can find homes within this price range.
@@diannahowellrealtor I'm looking only outside of cities as I want with land. I see many houses even around 35k outside of Troy, are these safe? It looks like that's the cheapest area in AL, and that's same price as 10% downpayment in FL :O
We also may be moving from FL to AL, my husband has a job interview in Birmingham on Monday. I’m also confused about the safety there, I hear a lot of mixed opinions. Is it safe? Where would be the best place for a family to live? I know there are some expensive areas like Vestavia Hills, but are there other safe suburbs for a middle class family (with homes in the 200-300k range?)
@@Gati1313 I went there to check it out myself, it’s terrible overall… there is an affluent part of the city that is safe but if you’re not that, I don’t think you’re gonna like it, good luck.
...then why was Birmingham voted 2nd worst state in the entire U.S in 2019.? Other than extremely high unemployment rate and extremely high crime rate?

Love your intro! Did not know Birmingham is so large. Is it really central, hmmm. I thought it was more north. I went to college at Troy University..

South East Lake is a smaller town. It's closer to downtown Birmingham and the airport (and also next to Ruffner Mountain - a popular hiking spot).

murder rate for 2021 was 70/100.000 the worst in USA. i would suggest you buy an armed truck and get good life insurance

The only thing I worried is the tornado.
Tornadoes are definitely an issue here. A lot of people get storm shelters installed, but if you don't have one, definitely have a plan for cover.
