In this video we get a call from our friend Josh at ESS boardstore in Jindabyne, Australia. The head boot fitter Joey has offer to make us a custom set of snowboard boot insoles. I've suffered from snowboard boot pain in the past and it's a very common problem among snowboarders. Joey is going to take us through the entire process of building the custom snowboard boot insole and show us how they're made. If you want to check out more videos from Joey I've linked his channel above. Also visit him and the crew at ESS Boardsore in Jindabyne! Thanks for watching!

High on life brotha

Dude explained the whole process in full detail three times and could not stop talking about how cool it is I love it
The insole does not solve my problem! The problem was found. The reason is the lower part of the lace of the inner boot. He put pressure on the instep of the foot
Man explaining the footbed while high was great
Hope you make a vid testing and reviewing the foot beds
This was the first thing I did when I got my new boots. Game changer. 12/10 do recommend for everyone.
where did you get them
@@lfocusll7746 lol right?
So glad to see you guys get some custom footbeds! It honestly made a world of difference when I got mine, saved the trip. 🙌🏼
Elise thanks for the input! People need to know how much a difference Custom Footbeds make!
Yoooo it's the homie! That guy from ESS helped me choose my board!
Mack! Hows the board brotha??
Glad I found this video! I am an Aussie who has travelled to Japan for snowboarding, and funny enough I found Joey in Myoko! He whipped me my mate up with a pair of custom foot beds, he also had some really good advice for setting up our bindings and gave our boards a top quality hot wax. Foot beds are the go for anyone with sore feet, makes for a very comfortable ride. Joey's a top bloke and I recommend everyone to go see him!
Mike Chapo thanks legend. Keen to get back over there soon!
Great vid. Looking forward to hear how you like them after a few test runs.
Wow those look amazing!!
That was so nice, that could definitely solve my boots issues, I wish wi have custom snowboards shop like that in NY or NJ, thanks Kevin and TJ you guys awesome 🏂🏂🏂
JJ007 I grew up in NY. But I'm not sure which shops make custom insoles. I worked for many shops out West. You can search for Masterfit Products and who stock them, they will be one of the major companies supply the products to make custom footbeds. If you can find them, try Sidas.
Yooooo, my man is so chill! Love it!
Cheers Marco
Top idea for a vid !!! 😉 Would deffo recommend to every rider to get a set of custom footbeds, worth every penny !!!
so informative... great video
This is cool. I just got Super Feet I would definitely rock these. My outer blade of my rt foot (goofy lead foot) will burn and cramp
I had arch pain everyday on slope my front foot and hope this will help me with it. loving the channel guys, keep up the good work.
Hey did this ever help because I have the same problem
I have the same problem its so bad
Dude! Custom foot beds helped my foot pain so much! Even aftermarket ones help. Never buy new boots and leave with the standard footbed!
looks uber comfy
Joey seems so mellow. Feels like you guys got a therapy session while at it!
😂
This dude just had a fat bong sesh out back before they came 🤙
Ive met him in Japan and he is like that , super calm , master of his craft , his snowboard knowledge is incedible and hes just a hell of a nice guy .
@@SNOWGURUJOE Great vibe, Joe. Keep it up, bro :). Thanks for the demo.
@@1flatabs Thanks for the feed back!
I’m in Solden at the moment and on my first day could only do 5 mins without stopping in pain. I’ve had pain before but never this bad. Fingers crossed they have somewhere that does this!
There's a huge snowboard convention October 19th in Schaumburg close to Chicago you guys should come check it out huge event lots of deals
You guys are the awesome!
Mark, Joey and the ESS crew are always helpful! 100% custom foot beds are the tits.
DOPE...I def NEED to do this...
I have multiple pairs of Superfeet Wooly Whites. Once the insole is worn out, I remove the plastic heel cups that are attached to the bottom of the soles and use those as support in my boots :).
(Yes, I could also use the Superfeet as a whole in my boots, but I don't recommend a woollen insole with my sweaty feet, and by removing the heel cups, I can still benefit from the support the cups give without having to splash out on a new pair of Superfeet.)
Please do a follow up on this, did they make a big difference?
Thanks for that video and information. So maybe I don't need a new show I need a new insole!
yeah dude ESS and Joey are the shiiiit!!! great company and great dudes!
The Chost Coco thanks for the support!
Yo that Holden Ute @0:54 - i like that bih
Would love to see a review on sandbox kingpin goggles. Size etc. they have a backyard color that looks awesome and nobody near when I live sells them to check out before buying
Kevin and TJ what's the chances of us getting an update on how these worked and if they'd be worth the investment!
killed it on this one Kevin
Hey dude, what happened to the TM-3's? Thought you loved them, and the footbed they come with is supposed to be next level... or so I thought.
Great to see you guys having such a good time out there.
Harry I think the TM3 is a sick boot, and the footbed that comes inside it is the best in the market for original footbeds that come in boots. However there is nothing better than a custom footbed because they are moulded to your feet exactly!
That dude seems rad as fuck, so chill id love a set !
Looks like a craftsman
Great video. Would like to have some for my boots. Have to check if there is a company in switzerland which makes them too
Falls du eine gefunden hast - würd mich über eine Nachricht freuen;-)
And say goodbye to heel lift that’s the final lock-in for the perfect boot
Wheres the follow up video on how different they feel riding?
well im sold
I need those insoles.
Thats amazing! Very similar to the way hand splits are made in orthopaedics - thermoplastics that mold to the shape of your body part. Same reason why runners get orthotics. How much are these bad boys normally? I know normal custom orthotics for joggers can cost anywhere between $200-800 AUD.
They range $200-$250 AUD
Kevin - did you ever post a follow up/review of this after trying it out? Would love some specifics on the difference this made towards your comfort and your riding.
@snowboardprocamp any updates on this?
Joey is the Man!! So much knowledge and so helpful. Great guy.
MadHatter Thanks for the feedback brotha!
Thank you for this video! this is awesome!
Hi Guys! Me and my wife just had our first ski today and we both had rental equipments.

Hey Kevin, are you still using these in your new Vans? Hope you guys get a chance to hit up Silver Star one of these days
Update on how these have helped? Where can i get some made? Mainly the outsides of my feet burn and hurt.. I have the boa, considering going to a lace up to see if that helps?

Button lifts owwww
Do you know any places in Vancouver, BC that provides this type of service? Thanks!
anywhere to do this in the Whistler/Vancouver area?
While foot bed can help, one thing many dont realise is how socks pull back on your toes! Then by the time you do your boots up and then bindings youŕ toes are being pulled back and squished down. Solution.. toe socks! Injiny socks rock! Try them and you'll understand right away.
thanks for the tip man, really useful!
That’s why my toes always kill. Thx man!
Welcome - this is where I get mine from ;) www.injinjiperformanceshop.com.au/
Total cost?
Always wanted to invest in one of these. How much are these roughly?
my healthcare covered a pair of custom medical insoles.. check if yours can too. same deal
it outlives your boots but the template of the next boots might not be the same? if the first pair of boots warent the right fit for you
Are these still in use with your new boots? Or did they not work out?
So how do you get a pair of these, if you live in the south and only visit out west for like 2 weeks a year ?
i thought i was crazy and the only one who had excruciating pain in my boots. my doctor said i have the flattest arch he’s ever seen.
Where could I get it done in New York?
They look fantastic. Would say make sure that the person who sells the boots and makes the foot beds are experienced like this guy right here and know what they are doing.
I bought boots plus footbeds and I’ve been in a world of hurt, so new boots and footbeds needed
Who is the best custom footbed fitter in the USA? I’ll travel anywhere, would love some direction thanks!
Zoo york hat guy is lit af
how much did a pair of these cost?
were can i get these footbeds?
Hi Kevin/TJ. Love your channel! Custom insoles look interesting. I'm constantly looking for womens snowboard boots in a wide fitting. I have small but fairly wide feet, so boot pain across the width of my foot is always an issue! I know there are several men's boots in a wide fitting, do you know of any boots / particular brands that are a more forgiving women's boot? Thanks!
Hi Amy you defiantly want to stick with womens boots if you can because they are all shorter length for your calf. The best thing you can do is try on all the wider boots in your size with supportive insoles. However some of the wider brands for women are K2 & 32.
New to snowboarding. I bought some used boots, and they felt a bit too tight but friends told me it should feel like that.
A few hours later my left toe had gone numb and both my ankles had pretty painful burn-wounds on them, lol.
The foam was of real shitty quality, so no wonder the dude sold them cheap. So I'm gonna invest in some proper boots, and I might even go for doing something like this as well, as I never want to snowboard like that again, as that kind of shitty standard ruins the whole experience.
Gl all!
I realized early on that boot pain is a lot like rollerblade pain.
Kevin, are you still using them?
Do you guys still use these? Did they make a difference?
Never got back foot pain snowboarding, but mostly because I have no arch in my foot
Hammer toes!! Lmao! Great vid!
anywhere to get this done in BC, Canada?
i have foot pain but i mainly think it's because of my boots being too tight. I'd have pain and just incrementally loosen my laces until it went away. Worked for me and it's free too
Steven this is a very common problem. If you do your boots up to tight, you will cut off the blood flow to the feet and they will ache and hurt. The secret is keeping the bottom of the boot loose and the top of the boot tight. Bottom loose to keep blood flow and top tight to keep you into the back of the boot, and give you response when you turn.
@@SNOWGURUJOE thanks, i'll make sure to try that when the season starts
the boney sides of the ankle is where all the pain is... not the bottom lol for me
When you reach a certain age your feet will start to spread. It happened to me, causing great foot pain. Going up a half boot-size fixed the problem.
That being said, I want those custom foot beds! Thanks for the vid.
Any chance of having this kind of shop in Vancouver?
Kintec footwear and orthotics in north van!
This is an awesome video. I have always had problems with my feet falling asleep in my boots. I have a really high and strong arch, so anytime I give it too much support it cramps up. I currently don't even put insoles (even the ones that come with my boot) in. Is there a way to increase the amount of space by the arch in the boot? The bottom and then middle toes go numb first. I ride with 32s and they have been heat molded already.
Did you ever get this figured out? My feet always go numb and it’s the worst.
@@cameronheyward2362 Not 100%, but I have found that wearing lighter socks and having them molded at REI by a trained professional really helped. I just loosen them anytime I am on a break or take them off completely. The guy at REI thinks I could have a weird nerve connection/bundle since I messed my feet up so much as a kid, so it may never be great.
Do you still use them?
How much
how much did it cost ?
Hehey. Jindabyne, Perisher son
How much are they
When you have a foot fetish and like winter sports... This man has found heaven on earth.

What’s your take on these it’s been 5 months. Are you still using them & have you did a follow up review video?
@@powrunnr Looking forward to hearing the response
@snowboardProCamp please respond
Still waiting for that response
Yes, let's hear about it!
The insole does not solve my problem! The problem was found. The reason is the lower part of the lace of the inner boot. He put pressure on the instep of the foot
I rent snowboard boots every time I go and I get an intense ache in both feet when I snowboard. I can only relieve the pain by loosening up my boot laces and stopping riding for a bit. It means I can only ride for about 5 minutes before I need to rest them. People say it is because my boots are on too tight, but I don’t seem to wear them tighter than the people I ride with and if I wear them any looser it would lead to worse performance. Could i solve the described problem with these souls do you think?
Thanks for all of the helpful info, your channel is great!
Howard im Joey I made the custom footbeds for the boys. I think the first step for you is to get your own set of boots that fit you properly! Every brand has a different fit, so you will need to try some on, go see a boot fitter if thats possible. Custom insole will improve the fit and comfort. But you dont want to buy footbeds to put into rental boots. Rental boots are low quality, very flexible, providing little support and response. Definitely buy some good boots!
Rental boots are the worst! If you must rent boots, make sure the low zone laces are loose, but tighten up the high zone laces. Also, make sure the angle of your bindings aren't too wide (as Lauretiuss & Rob Gams mentioned above), +12, -12 is a pretty standard duck stance. If your feet still hurt, your foot may have a high arch. If this is the case, you really need to get a custom foot bed and buy your own boots! Hope this helps.
Hey Joe thank you so much for the advice! I will look into buying some boots thank you thank you thank you!
I have the same problem with my non rented boots. The only solution was to wear a specific pair of socks, stretch them a specific amount, break in my boots for the first hour of riding, and then switch between going on the lift regular and goofy after each run. Even then, it would still be painful some days. And most of the time, my boots would still be too loose after all of that, and my heels would lift out of the boot every ollie. I guess my boots just arent for my feet.
@@thegod7683 I think your right. It sounds like your boots might not be for your feet. However you might be surprised there is alot of different things you can do to boots to make them feel better! If you havent already go see a boot fitter, if you have maybe find a different one. Sometimes its possible to fix problems with boots, instead of buying new ones.
Does anyone ride boa. And are they good. Do they break too
lil yachty BOA boot are super fast and easy to do up. Most BOA boots can be repaired if they break. The BOA usually break on your back foot, from resting your board edge on the boot when you on the lift. The metal edge of the board will cut the BOA up and make it break! I think the best BOA boots have two BOA's so you can do the top and bottom separately.
he said that the footbeds would outlast the life of the boots themselves but im just curious as to how much longer? is there a specific time frame to that or does it depend on amount of use?
Lucy good question. There is no exact answer. Your right its depends on wear and tare. They usually last for a few pair of foots for sure! If you only use them in the snow board boots they will last for ages, defiantly worth the investment. Some people will have them up to 10 years.
@@SNOWGURUJOE thanks my guy, helps out heaps
Just get some Vans snowboard boots. They have big arches in the insoles
I'm pretty sure I met this guy in Myoko Kogen a couple of years back
yeah he owns a shop there as well, he was telling me about it on the weekend. such a chill dude.
Yeh that's Joey!
@JOEYSMYOKO - custom bootfitting
Myoko Japan is amazing! Thanks for the support boys!
I’m in Kanagawa. I’ll have to stop in this season. I’ve been using Reminds and FP the last few seasons, but they’re not the same.
@@yukiotokosama you should defiantly stop in and visit the shop and ride Myoko! Those insole are pretty good, but custom footbeds are the best! See you soon.
3:40 - should that not be done with him in the riding position, feet change shape when stood up/knees bent/sitting donwn?
Also not sure you could put those in your normal shoes as typically Snowboard boots fit snugger than a trainer etc.
Do you still use custom insoles? I had some weird foot numbness while I was hitting some small slopes this weekend. Not sure if it’s a circulation issue, insole issue or because of my boots being on too tight.
Im currently having the same foot numbness and cant figure out the issue. Did you happen to find your issue?
@@legends547 Yes! It was a combo of reasons 🥲 1) I was tightening my boots way too tight! 2) Along with boots too tight I had my tight socks over my merino wool tights which was constricting my circulation even more 3) on top of it all I was wrenching my snowboard bindings way too tight 😮💨
Try each one of those. If you’re still losing circulation move to #2 and get 3/4” merino wool leggings. Are you losing circulation only while in the snowboard? Then check your bindings and how tight they are
