For the "Rice is Strange" costume, it's basically a mistranslation from the Chinese factory. The Chinese characters for "Rice Strange" and "Mickey" are nearly identical, so whoever did the packaging flubbed the translation and no one corrected them before it shipped.

When we moved into our house, we did a whole sleeping beauty theme, I dressed as Maleficent and my niece dressed as Aurora. We had green light, fog machine, glow sticks in the grass and bushes to look like ferries, a spinning wheel, music, the whole shabang. We had 3 trick-or-treaters all night. No one wanted to walk up the hilly street to get to us. We were so disappointed.

Those wide-thighed pants are accurate to stars wars and even in the military. They are based on a style called jodhpurs, and are from equestrian and cavalry traditions in which the thigh needs extra space for saddle maneuvering, but the calves and area from the knee down requires a tighter fit so that it can be tucked into riding boots. After the need for horses was no longer a need in the military, it became stylized and eventually phased out, although you’ll see people who ride and work with horses still wear them today (though the invention of stretchy fabrics makes the style not necessary).

The no trick or treaters one reminded me of my neighbors. Their Halloween decorations were really good!! One time they made their entire yard into a graveyard, hang a swing in their tree, seated an Annabelle doll on it, and made her look at the people that came close to their house. The entire family also loved dressing up as monsters and killer clowns, it just was a really cool experience in general. Unfortunately, their house is really hard to see if you don't enter into the curve that conforms the house layout in our street, not to mention that there's barely any people with Halloween spirit in it, which makes most trick or treaters turn away from us. Because of this, only a few children that already knew what they do (plus my siblings) go and enjoy their decorations. About 4 years ago they stopped doing it, I guess that it was because of the low audience. Still remember their incredible work

I have had one of those boardroom experiences... Because my train was delayed. I got at the office late on Halloween and went strait to a meeting that the whole upper management team was attending. The day before, coworkers had told me that employees could dress up, which I thought meant most people would. Upon entering the boardroom, i quickly realized that I was the only one dressed up (very elaborate gothic masquerade costume will a mask covering the upper half of my face). Keep in mind that I had been working at the company for only two weeks and most people had not met me yet (large multinational corporation). I took a seat as discreetly as possible and pretended that everything was normal. At some point, the discussion was about my field of expertise, so I took the floor and started providing information. After about 3 minutes, the president (who had actually met me but obviously hadn't recognized me) said: "And WHO the hell are you?!?!?!?"

For anyone contemplating full-face makeup for Halloween: Get some Albolene cream (it's a cold cream). Apply a generous amount to your face and wait about 10 minutes. Then wipe off the excess but leave a thin coat on your face. Apply your face make up. When you're ready to remove the make up, apply a generous amount of the Albolene, wait a bit and then wipe it off with a soft cloth. Repeat as needed, and then wash with soap. I was a clown way back in the day, and the darker colors (red, black) can stain your skin. The Albolene cream before and after helps a ton!
Also, if you need to apply multiple colors, put on the lightest color (for a clown it's the white) over your whole face. Use a cotton swab to remove the white where you want to put other colors. That way you don't dilute the darker colors with the lighter base and it leaves a cleaner line where they meet.
The star wars costume is supposed to be jodhpurs (riding pants) so they have the bulge at the side. Look at uniforms the big-wigs wore in Germany during WWII. Same sort of look. That costume could be salvaged by sewing the seam closer to the body.

YES! It’s so sad, cause they’re so excited! It reminds me of one year on Halloween, I was trick or treating, and my friends dared me to go to one house that no kids were going to. My folks said it was cool, so it wasn’t like… you know, a bad person house at least. I went up, knocked, and this super old lady in a wheelchair was at the door. She was so excited to see me! She gave me a hug, let me and my parents inside, asking how a lass named Sherry was, gave me a literal bowlful of candy (she had multiple bowls set up). Honestly, my parents and I just thought she was being really nice… until a younger lass came from upstairs, and asked about us. The old lady said “It’s Michael and Sadie, and Lucy Goose! You don’t think I’d forget my own kids and grandkids, would you?” Turns out the lady had dementia, and it freaked a lot of kids out, so no one went there. The lady loved Halloween, and was always really sad when no one came by. The younger lass was her caretaker, also very nice. I tried to tell everyone that the lady was nice, and she was chill, and no one believed me, or just didn’t change their mind about her. It was a year before I moved away, so I never saw her again. I hope she’s doing ok. It’s been years now, and I still remember it vividly. She was so sweet, and had a big house with only one other person in it, and… it made my heart ache.

We decked out the whole inside and outside of our house with tons of decorations and when the day of Halloween rolled around we were ready! We had only lived in the house like a month at this point so we didn't know any neighbors yet. So we were on our porch in full costume waiting for the trick-or-treaters and no one was coming. When we spotted a neighbor we asked where everyone was and his response was "That's the devil's holiday. We don't celebrate that in this city." Aww, I feel the pain of the ones with no trick-or-treaters. Halloween is my absolute favorite and I couldn't wait until I had my own house to decorate over the top and give out great treats! Then we bought our house and there are no kids but our own close enough to trick-or-treat. We've been here 15 years and it still bums me out. 🎃😭

The toothbrush thing explained: My mom would hand out tooth brushes for Halloween to just see the pikachu faces of the trick or treaters. After a laugh she'd of course give them candy. For her it was trick and treat, but the toothbrush was a reminder that all that Halloween candy would give them cavities if they didn't brush. It was a fun practical joke, that ultimately had a decent message. Plus the kids still got their candy

We just moved to a small town in mid October for my husband’s job and in our new small town they close one of the streets on Halloween night exclusively for trick-or-treating, so nobody trick or treats the other parts of town unless they’re going to somebody’s house that they know. Thankfully we had friends tell us this in advance before I bought a bunch of candy.

I feel so bad for the people who wanted to pass out candy but had no/very few trick or treaters. When we bought our home a few years ago, I was like, Oh we won't get too much candy in case no one shows up (for our first Halloween here). We ran out in about 30 mins! Turns out, our neighborhood is one of the go-to spots for trick or treating in our area. Now, I buy SO MUCH CANDY and wind up giving it all away, even by handfuls at the end if I'm scared we bought too much. 😅 I also include little toys and trinkets in the mix so the kids have things to fiddle with for a few days.

My experience with offices and Halloween is it really varies. Working at an arts council though, Halloween is THE event of the year, honestly bigger than Christmas. Costume contests, pumpkin carving contest, storage/meeting room turned into a haunted house, Halloween fair in the lunch room. Even during the pandemic and with everyone working from home they still organized Halloween virtual activities. Christmas is dress up and a party, but Halloween the artistic creativity comes out.

Even though I think you are right about thinking that it is a great idea to do a test patch with their make-up to rule put allergies, that is not the issue happening in this video. People have either used crappy quality make-up that stains, used other products instead of make-up that you are not supposed to use on your skin or they used decent or ok products but used them wrong. I think sometimes your are supposed to use like a primer for the skin to prevent a shield between your skin and the heavy coloured make-up product, to make sure the make-up doesn't stain your skin. Personally, I would only use make-up that doesn't need a barrier and that is made well. When the colour is bound to the other ingredients in the formula, it will not bind to your skin in the way that it will stain your skin. And I would patch test if I don't forget.

    • @BEEDRILL303
      @BEEDRILL303 Год назад +1

@@Freya778 That's my point though if they had done a swatch on their arm before covering their body/face with it then they would have known it would stain or just be painted on their skin but, they didn't do that and that's why this happened.

... I give Ghost Tours in a tourist destination.
Halloween is one of our busiest times.
Often, it is an entire week of costuming for me.
I have more costume options in my closet than "nice clothes".
Most of the men I know here have better makeup kits than the "girliest" women I know in other cities.
So, if you haven't guessed my feelings about Halloween by this point, let me clarify:
    I LOVE IT!!!
    👻🖤😈💀👽👹🥳🍫

All of the missing trick or treaters are in our neighborhood. We had approximately 900 last year, and I love it. I just sit on the porch as there is no point sitting inside because as soon as we shut the door, someone else shows up. My favorite costume last year was a 2 year old dressed up like ZZ Top. We had an awesome conversation about LaGrange.

When the little kid went in the house is so relatable. Last Halloween my 7 year old autistic child took a little girl by the hand and took her inside to show her his cars the look on the poor mums face was mortified I had to leave his older brother (11) in charge of handing out lollies so I could get this little girl and explain to my child they can't come inside unless we know them 😂

When the story about the little tirl with diabetes came up I thought about how my fathers boss won't let his kids keep all the halloween candy - instead they pay the kids some money and he brings the candy in to work for his workers. Kids still get something out of it, but arent going to go into a sugar coma. I always thought that was a nice way to handle it.

I can explain the toothbrush, I think. I believe it’s a reference to the running joke from Jenna Marbles, she once complained about women’s Halloween costumes always being sexy versions of things…the sexy nurse, the sexy witch, etc..and she said “What if I just want to be a toothbrush?” And then, later, she made herself a toothbrush costume.

Also, it’s amazing how many kids where I live (rural town in the Midwest) tell me they don’t “celebrate Halloween”
But they have candypalooza at church or downtown community treat night? It’s a very church promoted hate on how evil Halloween is.
I, the town witch, gives zero f’s but also gives comic books and full size candy bars.
After the first year the kids learned and now we literally Halloween prep for the hundreds beginning in august.
They get driven here just to come to our house and it’s usually only maybe 3-5 houses that will offer candy within 4 blocks of us.
    Crazy!
I grew up with super religious parents who never allowed me to trick or treat so I take Halloween very seriously.

For the makeup fails, it looks like they used lipstick or grease paint? Just use an oil-based makeup remover (cleansing oil, cold cream) or just plain oil straight on the stain, then wash normally. Water isn't going to get grease off. But that red might still leave a stain, in which case you can try alcohol or a mild nail polish remover (just not near eyes), but it will dry out the skin. There are tons of sites that have instructions on how to remove grease paint.
