Thanks all for joining us. We want to know your opinions on the following article. Erik ten Hag is not under pressure to guide Manchester United to a top-four finish next season, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe prioritising considerable progression of the team. While Ten Hag’s ambition is to lead United to as high a position as possible and Ratcliffe’s Ineos-led football department want the same, there is a recognition there are no guarantees next season as the club rebuilds and that establishing a firm foundation will allow ongoing success [@JamieJackson]
Until we see a ratio of 4 players out, 8 players in, I won't expect CL and established style of play from EtH. He still has top many bang average players that lack technical ability or the engine required to play the Ajax style. Ineos need to wholesale change the squad. We are too light and have too many injury prone players. If we go in with just 2 signings next season, we are doomed. If we get in a LB, a backup right back, 2 CM, 1 being a primary DCM at the very least then we have a CL chance
I would disagree that player development is not upto Ten Hag. He is one of the best in the world at developing young players. He will succeed, we don’t know what we have on our hands, top top manager.
I've got no issues with this. For once it looks like we are doing a thorough rebuild. We've got top 4 on many occasions since fergie left, but it's always been unsustainable, if this is what it takes to formulate sustainability -aka regular top 4 finishes and challenges, so be it.
Bro, all of this is just to give them time to fill their pockets. Now they have to renew the stadium and the glazers will still take money out of the club. So, it is unsustainable in that sense and they don’t have a choice rather than to assure Ten Hag that everything will be ok even if he doesn’t get the top 4. In other word, they will not buy a world class player who would probably make the difference because they don’t have the money to spend on the club. It’s like “start all over” or thing. In my opinion, I still don’t think Ten Hag system or his inability to tweak a game based on opposition team tactics will help Man United progress. I just don’t think he is what Manchester United need as a manager.
@@stevem9529 it's come to fruition many times since fergie left, never been followed up consistently, as we've had no plan, or we've played extremely bland football which has also been sustainable. To succeed in the PL with 38 matches it needs consistency which can only be achieved with quality in squad depth. With the 2 new players in this window we’re still one injury away from total collapse like in last season. For shorter competitions like FA cup and Europa the current squad should be ok. But insufficient for the Premier League.

Best news for the players and the fans. No expectations, no pressure. We should be patient and trust the manager and players who will build an attractive attacking play style.
Dutch guy here! Dumfries is loved in the netherlands but im not a fan of him. Attacking or he has the best game or he has the worst. Defending is alright but he gives away sloppy penalties. Is usually in for a red card. And if he does not provide in attack you basically play with 10 because his defending is average. I wouldnt take him
Although we must not assume it will happen, IF city were heavily sanctioned (and it’s a big IF) this would remove another big club from United’s way for a little while, making a title challenge a little easier.
That was a really interesting and brave statement to make. I think it would perhaps be along the lines of wanting ETH to give game time to younger players, and not over work other players just to win a game, and perhaps not always play players like Casemiro, when he could give youth players some game time instead. And it could maybe end up with him bringing on, say Collyer and Amass after 70 minutes, instead of bringing them on at 89 minutes, or not playing them at all because he's be afraid of losing a game. It's definitely going to be an interesting season..
Ineos are highly professional and they are not ego driven owners who demand immediate success. They have seen the mess that UTD were in first hand and know that it takes time ti come back from that.
We can’t be playing shit football anymore. The team needs an identity and attacking play style. Ten Hag should’ve implemented this in his first season but instead chose to set up pragmatically to scrape results. That way of playing doesn’t win you league titles over a 38 game season anymore. You need to play well and score loads of goals like city have been doing, like arsenal are doing now. That’s what we need to see progression in. Playing better football consistently will eventually feed into better results longer term. If you don’t develop a play style you will see what we’ve seen over the last few years. Might scrape top 4 here and there but the season after a big collapse and you’re back in the Europa League
@@WebbyONeill They’ve not won anything yet but they’ve come bloody well closer to anything we have managed over the past 10 years and are easily the best equipped to challenge city again. I think that by having ETH more laser-focused on the on-pitch strategy, and getting the players to play to win, will relieve him of any other responsibilities. This should bring success and, if it doesn’t, it becomes much easier to remove that component part (the manager) with the minimum of disruption to the club. It’s definitely a strategy used by regular business owners whereby a struggling manager has duties removed in order for him to concentrate on his/her core functions. The biggest challenge for ETH is for him to use that same strategy for his players - in particular the likes of Rashford and Sancho whose work ethics have been called into question - just like any problem employee on the shop floor.
The marginal gains thing, I believe the biggest thing with all is is the players will now believe that the club has their backs and are looking after their welfare and that will make a huge difference not marginal. We replaced varane with yoro and got a second striker to expect a better style of play with those changes from last seasons squad or even better results is very unrealistic. ETH can only work with what he has. What he has, still has, is a cancerous group, players that start who shouldn’t, two new kids and several potential young players. Then there are the injury prone players. I think there should be a couple statement departures, chief among them Marcus Rashford to send a clear message. ETH feels no pressure, he will have a job within hours if and when he leaves or gets sacked, the man is confident, and a team dominated by egos who don’t commit to the badge will limit any “pressure” he feels.
For me it says top 4 won’t save him if the footy is poor. We had that season before last. Got top 4 but we had some very lucky results and the footy was inconsistent. Jim wants to see a team that gets top 4 because it deserved top 4.
Me thinks ETH suffers from too much pressure . He is not a blunt instrument but a finely tuned mind. So Ineos putting everyone in place will assist with the pressure on ETH. Happy days. Watching that Saint and Greavsie Highlights ( the one starring Tony in ) , the show interviewed a young Fergie too and the same question was asked back then: 'Is there a lot of pressure as the Manchester United boss?' Fergie answered and welcomed the pressure.
Just waiting for an upgrade in the medical department. They told Ten Hag he would have both Luke Shaw and Malacia fit in January last year which is why the sent Reguilon back. It's not acceptable. We need better. And we know Luke Shaw is injury prone so it's no good him playing every game, he needs managed. Probably best if he didn't train, just play the match. Might even have to play a game and miss a game then play again. Ideal situation would be to buy a left back.
500 million spent on players in 2 years, plus coaching changes. United must expect to start the season well and top 4 must be a minimum requirement. ETH must aim for a much more attacking, faster, style of football this season.....at minimum the cup final plan and performance needs to be reproduced for 38 PL games this season. By the end of September 2023 United had already lost 4 games. Chasing forlornly 4th place. That cannot happen this season.
with his board room staff it will be foolish to believe they are aiming for top 4...every thing is aimed at dominating England and then EUROPE so align with the VISION and stop this small mentality of top 4...their plan is for UNITED and it's not dependant on any coach.
Love the 'common sense' comment. Nothing has happened so far beyond a display of reasonable competence. It shines a light on how embarrassingly incompetent the previous ten years have been. We'll get a better view soon enough.
United fans need to get behind eth ..stop crying about it ghe media will spread enough toxicity. 2 trophies 2 years a crop of youth . We need thosd glazers out now .
Beauty is United have 2 shots at Champions League spots, with the PL and Europa League. This is a big season, but if we haven't got rid of the deadwood, top 4 may be a challenge. But Ten Hag likes a challenge
Can’t believe that top four is not that important,Top four is a priority we need champions league money and also it encourages our transfer attraction, and status, totally the wrong message to send out
I don’t care about Champions League qualification. It’s an overrated competition and we haven’t done anything in it anyway for well over a decade. BUT I do care about finishing 5th or below in the Premier League. If ETH fails again to AT LEAST be in the top 4 positions at a club like Manchester United, with the squad he has coached for 3yrs and having spent c£600m (by summer end), then his position should be untenable. Even if we do the Spurs things of great performances mixed in with results that aren’t good enough. And we should not be telling the players and staff before the season even starts that it’s acceptable to not finish in the highest 4 places in the league. Which 4 clubs should Utd be finishing behind? And what’s ‘progress’? Being better than the record breaking low bar of ETH’s last Premier League season?
If Villa can get top 4 theres no excuse for united. if he cant get top 4 he should be sacked. uniteds rebuild has now taken over a decade. This kind of mentality is crippling the club
ETH finished 3rd in his first season by luck. 2nd season ETH was unlucky because of injuries. We need neither of that, but require consistent results every season. For that united need squad depth with similar quality players

I quite like the idea of a 'marquee departure'. And I agree about ETH. Not sure if MUFC really understand his value.
Finishing top 4 is minimum. A Manchester United manager should always be under pressure to challenge
Building a foundation doesn't mean only a foundation, nor to stay under top 4. The Pressure now is bigger one. A foundation is serious business.
United still need to move the deadwood out to help ETH
Top 4 with the current team is a good achievement. Everybody else caught up over the years so you can't expect an automatic top 4 spot.
For me it says top 4 won’t save him if the footy is poor.
We had that season before last. Got top 4 but we had some very lucky results and the footy was inconsistent.
Jim wants to see a team that gets top 4 because it deserved top 4.
It makes me wonder if they already have a different manager lined up for the end of the season.

The suit's are in place but not the boots
Wan Bissaka clearly missing sunshine.
Now musiala Mr Oneill and we are good 2Go
The target has been set - theyre just not telling the media
Need a DM and 1 more CB
Postecoglu and Emery have the personnel to play a better style of football than we do. Thats a fact to say otherwise is simply a false statement.
Yep he’s got to show he can put a winning team together…and he won’t get that long either…🤨
Maguire, Lindelof, AWB, Casemiro, McTominey, Eriksen, and Sancho MUST GO…
with his board room staff it will be foolish to believe they are aiming for top 4...every thing is aimed at dominating England and then EUROPE so align with the VISION and stop this small mentality of top 4...their plan is for UNITED and it's not dependant on any coach.
Up Armagh!
I am full of Admiration for Sir Jim Ratcliffe ... Calm down 😂

Ive never seen a swap .wont ever happen
It can happen. I once saw a Paul Mariner swapped with a shiny Fulham FC logo.
Love the 'common sense' comment. Nothing has happened so far beyond a display of reasonable competence. It shines a light on how embarrassingly incompetent the previous ten years have been. We'll get a better view soon enough.
We have to finish top 4?
United fans need to get behind eth ..stop crying about it ghe media will spread enough toxicity. 2 trophies 2 years a crop of youth . We need thosd glazers out now .
No top 4 after 2 years in the job? Yeah right, let’s keep the standards. Top 4 & Europa League is the MINIMUM for me. If not, he’s got to go.
Beauty is United have 2 shots at Champions League spots, with the PL and Europa League.
This is a big season, but if we haven't got rid of the deadwood, top 4 may be a challenge. But Ten Hag likes a challenge
No top4?
Is Radcliffe aware of the financial hit this could have on the club for a 2nd season..🤷♂️
TOP 4 AND EUROPA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!
“ they can’t start badly!” Ffs you’re as bad as the rest of the media, what if we lose the first five games and finish fourth and win a trophy?
Listen to the explanation instead of ranting lol
No top four last four O K. Nice Utd. 😂😂😂😂
Can’t believe that top four is not that important,Top four is a priority we need champions league money and also it encourages our transfer attraction, and status, totally the wrong message to send out
Totally agree,100%.👍

For that united need squad depth with similar quality players
we have just started our rebuild... the count starts now RATCLIFFE era anything before it's glazers era
Another 10 years to come with no title. Facts!
How can you say it's facts?.What are you a fortune teller reading a crystal ball?...go and support City if you want cheap gratifacations !🙄👹
the ten hag excuses are sickening from 2 lifelong supporters, it's his 3rd year, he's spent £500 million, doesn't have a style of play and you think top 4 is OK. come on lads stop with the club propaganda and speak the truth
This comment will forever live in infamy in UNITED lore, *United need open heart surgery.*
Looking to reward failure again. Ratcliff rewards failure. WORST PREMIER LEAGUE FINISH EVER
We've got top 4 multiple times since fergie left, it's done nothing for us, we've not got anywhere. About time we rebuild correctly.
We had worst finish was because 1 cb no lb top 4 was never going to happen no team can defend with no 1 cb and no lb I'm happy with eth 3rd cup 8th and a cup but we need to build before jumping the gun
No top 4 after spending nearly 600 this club is finished lol 😂😂😂 more excuses for ten hag this season, absolute fraud of a manager
Go and run to Alice you are clueless
@@richyclubsport5155 you deserve this fraud
