The 97's don't have enough fuel lines to drop the the fuel tank without causing even more damage. Takes 10 minutes to remove 6 bolts from the bed, disconnect electrical wires from the tail lights, and have three people to remove the bed as you have so much easy access now. Shifting the bed is also optional.

thanks for taking the time to do the video, I did the same on a dodge because I am in the rust belt. I just used an engine crane a bit more crude but it is an old truck so wasn't worried about marking up the bottom of the box edge on front. We left the rear bolts in loosely to keep alignment just lifted the front. Cheapest fuel pump I could find and it's lasted years lol

Just drop the tank. The tank has to be cleaned out or the new pump will fail. You can’t clean the tank this way. And this is way more work even if you don’t plan to do the repair order correctly.

After 97 GM changed the fuel lines and made them long enough to drop the tank down before you have to disconnect them. I've got a 96 I've got to finish tomorrow because I'm having trouble breaking the rusted fittings loose. I may have to cut them and tell the owner he needs yo buy the whole assembly which is what I recommended in the first place. Earlier then 98 and you can only move the tank aside but not lower to access the fuel lines. I'm trying to avoid what he's had to do here. I didn't price the job out for those hours.
As clean as this truck is dropping the tank should have been easier.
