  • I decided to cut a access panel to replace my fuel pump. Much easier than dropping the tank or lifting the bed. It worked very well! Thanks for watching!

    They should have made that access hole from the factory. You did good. Much better that dropping the tank. You made it look easy. Good job!

    All you need is a jack, two jack stands, a transmision jack, a socket extention and a ratchet. And two - two by fours cut to lengh and run bolts threw To drop a fuel tank on a transmission jack. Have pliers for fuel lines to not damaging any of them. Borrow transmission jack from someone if need be.

    Mr. Wallace nice job on the pump replacement. Extra work that will pay off down the road and will save you your back and time. I spilled gas on me changing one one time on a car that had almost full tank. Not fun at all! Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin

    They should just make the gas tanks where they can be lowered down like a spare tire. Just put a wrench in there and crank it down enough to get access to the fuel pump. Or at least have a hatch like you cut out from the factory. I guess that would make things too easy.

    You know I had never thought of doing it that way I’m just happier it’s back up and running it wouldn’t of hurt to put a little paint on the part you cut just for incase reasons no rust hopefully

    I’m very fortunate to have an incredible company called Gas Tank Renu just a few miles away. They have done the job for me twice. Once on a ‘76 Buick Pk. Ave. and once on my Dodge Truck. Only cost me $30 for the labor. I don’t remember what the pump cost. But I could do it that cheaply myself if I stood on my head and shook every penny out of my pockets!!

    • @jeffro221
      @jeffro221 2 месяца назад

      30 bucks labor? Sure. That ain't nuthin'. I have a shop that if I bring the fuel pump, they take my camper off, remove bed liner, cut the hatch, install my pump, screw the hatch back down, put my camper back on, and they charge me 2 bucks, with a 1 buck charge for shop supplies, total charge is 3 bucks.

      You think that’s a good deal?? My shop will pay me $100, and a free lunch, for the privilege of changing my pump!!

      @@rexdaniels3350 Don't you hate it when people blow smoke? He might have been charged 30 bucks labor to change a fuel pump back in 1938. Or they charged him 30 bucks labor and $1,200 for the pump.

    What a hack job. All you need to do, is disconnect the fill and vent hose, pull two bolts and drop the tank. Slide it out, and install the pump.
    That truck HAD a clean looking bed.

    I feel for ya! I had to replace my old ford PU fuel pump , but we took the bed off and then we cut an access hole after we had it off, just in case that happened again!! Yes it happens to Fords too !! I know thats hard to believe, we are usally the ones that take the Chevy boys to the parts stores, haaahaaaha...glad ya gotter fixed old timer....🤣😅😆👍

    Hold my beer! - as sparks fly around fuel fumes! I’ve thought about doing that but I drop the tank partially and take the pump out. My biggest problem is getting the high pressure fuel line connections apart. My 1999 Ford F-150 keeps running well. I’m just glad I can do most work on it myself. These newer vehicles void the warranty if you work on it.

      I like Chevy and have owned chevys! But, Ford is slightly better! Chevys are fairly easy to work on! Ford engineers get crazy sometimes and perplex the shade tree mechanic. But, if I get 400,000 on my F150, I’ll be a Ford man for life!

    Did you use that Butyl Tape looking stuff (I believe you called it Dum-Dum?) to seal the piece of bed back in place?
    Nice job. I was surprised you cut such a large hole. What was the reason for that?

      I did! Packed it around the ring. I used measurments from a video I saw, Slighty larger than I wanted but I had plenty of room
