Thanks for the video Sam! I bought an EV in 2022. It does everything I need it to do and it is cheaper to run. If the new EV models are better and the cost is coming down, why would I buy an ICE car?

Bought a 2024 Rav4 Prime a year ago. Living in a rural area with darn few charging stations around drove the decision to by the Prime. Great car. Plenty of power and comfort. Perfect for our particular use. But I must admit that I prefer driving it in EV mode rather than Hybrid mode. In EV mode it's quiet, faster, smoother acceleration, and plenty of power. I really notice the noise and the slower acceleration of the ICE more when in Hybrid mode.

I already invested in a level 2 charger at my house. Why would I ever go back if I've got the dream set up? If anything, i want to go further and get solar panels to produce my own "fuel" and v2h or battery back up. I'm more of an sufficiency wonk than a performance wonk: I could care less about the 0-60 time, but I love pushing the miles per kWh higher and higher.

The best bit about the level 2 charger is tying it with solar panels. More than 95% of my charging is from solar. With 25kW of panels and summer in Australia the panels are still making power until 8pm. I can get home from work and still top-up the car from solar. In fact, there's so much excess solar production in Australia the grid gives it away for free. They offer free EV charging during the middle of the day even if you don't have solar panels. My fuel costs dropped from $5k per year to less than $500. This car will pay for itself within its lifetime just on the fuel savings alone. I'm gobsmacked. The EV is also better to drive, more comfortable, more reliable, and less frustrating to own, its just the icing on the cake.
I hesitated for so long, concerned about the range, and the range wasn't even an issue. The EV is superior to the ICE car in every respect that matters to me.

LOL, most are liars. Those "claiming" to go back have likely never owned an EV in the first place. They're trolls, usually people involved with the sales and servicing of gasoline and diesel vehicles (especially new car dealers and their employees). They see mass adoption of EV's as a serious threat to their career choice. Dealers fear mass adoption of EV's will undermine the Parts & Service side of their business. These people now incessantly troll the comment forums under EV articles (claiming to be ordinary consumers) spreading misinformation in an effort to discourage consumers from buying electric vehicles. Spend enough time out here in these comment forums and you'll begin to see the same names making negative comments.

In the UK Tesla has sold around 48,000 ev's in 2024 but only put in chargers in 3 sites (2 in England, 1 in Ireland) no plans from what I can see regarding new charging sites in 2025. For me there needs to be a big upgrade in chargers. I do not want to travel 10 or 20 miles out of my way just to get to a Tesla charger. If they put 2 or 3 in every fuel station that would help as there are over 8,000 in the UK in places that you generally pass.

People shouldn't buy EVs if they can not charge at home. They should buy PHEVs. But lots of them regret that decision. Because once people buy PHEVs, they wanna charge them. Also, the electric utility and fossil fuel cartels are corrupt and I no longer want to do business with those crooks. And, we are rural and our electricity and gas are expensive. And, I live just over a mountain from the most polluted region in the US. I’m tired of adding to that pollution. And, global warming is hammering our region, driving up the cost of home insurance and also food (heat and drought are expensive for farmers) and electricity (our electric cartel keeps starting fires and burning down homes and towns and even killing people. That is expensive). So, not buying another dirty and overly fragile and inefficient ICE piece of junk.

I drive a BYD Atto 3 for several months now, it is not the fastest thing around, despite having 210 hp and accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 7.6 seconds. But at least the acceleration is linear and consistent. It is easy to smooth things out, except the auto-hold brakes. The steering radius is cartoonishly small, often to the amazement of bystanders that I often made a U-turn in single pass or exit a parking spot seamlessly. It doesn't like being fast, let alone fast corners - it is just a comfortable city cruiser, competent enough for daily driving.
Then I tried a Mercedes-Benz E-class, and then BMW 3 series, and then Toyota Camry - I remembered how terribly twitchy its throttle response was, never consistent and constantly demand you to match its rpm to your driving situation, whether you are accelerating or just smoothing things out, it doesn't like to settle in a certain gear if you are not in highway cruising speed. The Merc has 9 gears, and you'd think it is smooth, but only so in the highways, so almost as useless as most other German dual clutch nonsense in Ford Focus, VW Golf, and the likes. It doesn't like city driving at all. The steering is clumsy at slow speed, you hit the slightest bump or uneven surface, the steering wheel does communicate that well with you, but any otherwise, very hyper-reactive given its super light power steering at low speed. The only time I enjoyed ICE car is when I cruise on open highway, especially with the BMW. It eats long winding fast corners super well, and loves to be played around.
Don't get me into improperly handling tall cars like Crossovers and SUVs - it is much more terrible now as they wobbles about. I am also reminded how awfully bad the suspension setup and ride quality in cheap Japanese cars were. They were super noisy and cheap flimsy materials rattled everywhere.
And then you watch the fuel consumption gauge. The thing with ICE, whether it is diesel or petrol - it burns fuel, quite inefficiently just to stay idle, no wonder they give it a start-stop function as a crutch to address this. It doesn't get efficient until you hit the 1:1 direct drive gear (usually 4th gear in 5 or 6 speed transmission), which almost doesn't happen in inter-city drive, or morning highway commute - you and most drivers tend to push your cars in overdrive gears when on highway. With 1 litre of petrol = 8.9 kW conversion, the rate of petrol car inefficiency is just unacceptable. They are like 6 times energy waster if you are not doing 50 kph or over.
They say Tesla is badly made and poorly finished with a lot of panel gaps - but the Model 3 that I rode along was very quiet and smooth.
I don't think I am going back to ICE cars though. Depreciation is just the language of a used car salesman of a certain brand - sleazy dishonest business. If any, we will have a lot of cheap used EVs should it depreciate greatly, I'll gladly pick a good one, like a used Zeekr or Xpeng or maybe even Tesla. That would drive used ICE cars down too, if my last used car buyer were correct, things were already looking bad for them with ICE cars price keeps on falling.

Good question. They depreciate like that because people are afraid of battery degredation. What people don't realize is that modern EVs have batteries that will almost always last ~15 years or and longer. The issue has been that non-Tesla brands have sometimes used crappy batteries in the past, and the media has had a field day with it, while getting paid by Big Oil to do so. The reality is, in almost all cases, a used EV is a great choice, and an incredible bargain because it's "depreciated" so much. Battery Management Systems are so good these days that even supercharging (or it's equivalent) all the time doesn't really do much to batteries anymore. The batteries are fed exactly what they can handle.

I don't know of the percentage is correct. But if ex-EV owners go back to ICE, it's probably because of range and charging. Takes too long to charge, esp. if one has to make a lot of long distance trips. This is if one has expectations similar to the ICE-gas-station experience.
I own an EV. Wouldn't go back to ICE, because it drives like crap, by comparison. Don't have home charging. It took awhile to get use to a new lifestyle. Now charge at a shopping mall, while I do my shopping. Sometimes it's nerve racking when the stalls are full. Sometimes it's a bit of an adventure to try out new EVgo stations at new shopping mall. (Know my options.). But it's an issue if one doesn't have home charging. Though I've finally gotten use to it. It's workable. But I can see how this can be a barrier for some people.

This is incredibly misleading to say the least. Here's how the data was collected: they only surveyed people who were members of the "Global Electric Vehicle Alliance" or their "collaborating partners". They then extrapolated "weighted" this data according to population of each country, operating on the assumption that it is representative of Joe Public. I shouldn't need to say this but people who are EV owners club members are more likely than average to have a positive attitude towards the technology, in other words it is a selection bias.
Perhaps next they could survey coal miners to see what % of the "public" supports coal power plants?

The GEVA "study" is in its way as FUDsy as the McKinsey thing with 46% of US owners going back to ICE (when Tesla loyalty alone is above 90%). Or the one with half of EV trade-ins at "dealerships" going back to ICE. Tesla and Rivian don't have normal dealerships for one thing. We can argue over 1 or 46%, but neither passes the smell test. My guess is 80-90% of owners will still own an EV in ten years.
We're in a post-truth age and it's gonna take us down without a little common sense.

Not surprised in the slightest, if I could home change then I would have an EV and wouldn’t look twice at ICE. What needs to happen is fix it so that people like me where in first floor flat and parking space other side of road can get domestic rate charging.
    At the moment then either
1.) two journeys to supermarket and leave car there to charge up at 44p a unit and walk back home whilst charges and then go collect afterwards. - not happening
2.) stop off at fast charger on the journey. More expensive then ICE as 79p at local fast charger and still have 15-20minutes stop to charge.
I work from home so no destination charging at work.
Was out with friend in his cupra EV and could not tell the difference. As the noise in the cabin in my car is Road and Wind Noise not the noise from the engine with modern sound dampening.
Refuelling the car is don’t drive around the petrol station on way out of the supermarket after shopping.
I drive 0 miles to refuel and is the 10minutes tops to refuel.
Range of cars not a problem.
Time to charge (not a problem if could charge at home)
Charging network not a problem in UK if using to top up when out and about,
The biggest obstacle to EV adoption is if someone can easily charge or not at home.
If you can charge at home is a no brainer to do EV, unless have some extremely niche requirements.
You will need to stop for your body before run out of battery range and at least here in the UK then the charging network is pretty good on major routes so finding a charger to top up if you cannot out and back on your charge from home.
Sadly is an area that nobody is looking to actually fix

Is it wise to import all these EVs into Australia when Australians are purchasing more Hybrids than EVs? Sales of Hybrid cars in Australia have charged ahead of demand for electric vehicles (EVs), reflecting a global trend that has seen major car makers scale back their EV production targets.
After years of exponential growth, sales of electric vehicles in Australia are faltering, achieving only 7.6 per cent of total car sales from January to August this year, according to data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and the Electric Vehicle Council (EVC). Australians purchased 129,895 Hybrids in the first nine months of 2024 compared to 82,961 Electric Vehicles.
Car makers have observed slowing demand for EVs around the world, particularly in the United States, which saw sales of hybrids grow five times faster than EV sales in February this year.
EV sales will eventually exceed Hydrids and ICE cars, but this won’t happen until battery technology improves and at present, this is not happening to any great degree.

On a planet where the population is aging rapidly, electric cars have an enormous defect which slows down their sale, it's the fact that their on-board computer screen keeps changing regularly. Older people (who have the money to buy Teslas) like stability and use their car to go from point A to point B. They hate to see their on-board computer screen changing because they are afraid of computers. They are like that and nobody will change that.
To increase the sale of EVs, Tesla for example should offer to its customers the option to ¨freeze¨ the on-board computer screen for the lifetime of the car.
First, only the most essential elements should appear on the computer screen and those elements should be extremely similar to what we see on the dashboard of a gasoline car.
Second, any improvement Tesla sends by radio to the on-board computer should remain hidden if it's not essential to drive the car.
Third, if somebody has modified the computer screen for whatever reason, there should a ¨reset¨ button on the computer screen to bring back the permanent display I am talking about.
    Somebody should tell Tesla.

I drive an EV but my sister hates them, she told me that she doesn’t even want to sit in one. When I asked her why she told me they are too quiet! What? Apparently she hates them because they might run over deaf people. I didn’t argue with her, but maybe I should have reminded her that our deaf brother drives an EV! 😂😂😂

If you want to believe that batteries fail and cold weather, then you should research it a little more about what the real problem was human air or the batteries lack of understanding or the batteries there’s a lot of research out there on RUclips that will be very accurate and will satisfy anybody that wants to know the truth the truth is that batteriesare not hurt by cold weather.

Sam, it sounds like you’re asking people to make money-saving, practical decisions. Folks who are considering purchasing an EV need to ask questions of people who have owned an EV for over 90 days, but they shouldn’t make a decision based on some random form online.

This "Over 50% of EV drivers won't buy an EV for their next car" rubbish that's ben bandied about is entirely down to multicar families happy with the EV they have but wanting to get a hybrid to replace the other car so that long trips won't be a worry. Such hybrids would be run on batteries 80-90% meaning that gas would only cover less than 5% of driven mileage.

It's great that they can wait to charge, they are not afraid of electric fire/explosion/short circuit, they are not afraid that the "digital car" may have bugs, errors or glitches while driving or before driving, and they are not forbidden from having EV by their families.

I can't go back to petrol/diesel. My only concern was long-distance trips but it wasn't an issue afterall. It turns out the furthest I can drive before I need to stretch my legs is about 4 hours. As long as there's a supercharger every 4 hours I don't care about the range.

@@thewolf9851 It's like going from a rotary phone to an iPhone. The rotary phone has some nostalgia but I'd never want to use it again. The whole experience of an EV is just so far advanced it makes the old technology look laughably obsolete. I don't go to petrol stations anymore. I don't worry about "warming up" the engine. I don't have to get the engine serviced. The car doesn't vibrate when I'm stopped. It doesn't make any noise. It accelerates effortlessly. It even steers itself. Dinosaurs stuck in the past might lament the loss of the engine "roar" but you know what, I don't miss it. I'd rather listen to my music anyway. If I want to hear a V8 engine I can just put a Spotify song on that plays V8 engines noises. I don't miss it in the slightest.
Petrol engines are just so stupid. Once you go EV you realize how dumb we've been, clinging to this ancient nonsense technology from the 1800s. It's just incredible how stuck in the past some people are. The EV is so good. I can't go back.

@nhand42 EVs are just so stupid.
Imagine having to wait an hour for your car to "charge" 🤣
Imagine worrying about the temperature outside because your car might not go as far if it's cold 😂
Imagine complaining about the vibrations of a regular car 😂
Imagine being and owning a car that will lose 80% of it's value in just a few years 🤣
Imagine listening to speakers just to hear the sound of an engine 😂
Imagine being so unintelligent that you need your car to drive itself because you can't 🤣
Imagine thinking you're saving the environment by driving an inferior vehicle which actually pollutes the environment even more 😂
Imagine the only good thing about your car being fast acceleration 🤣
      Imagine that 😂😂😂
