      @@sgtrock62836 months is nothing for early access. For comparison, Baldurs Gate took nearly 3 years, DayZ took 5 years, Star Citizen is 11 years in (an entire decade overdue) and will probably never be fully released, and Project Zomboid is over 13 years and counting with no end in sight. That doesn’t mean Manor Lords is perfect as it is now, but it’s certainly premature to act like its development is taking too long.

    i was aware of the current state of the game and bought it. why? The developer has always communicated everything openly and I was of the opinion that a developer who spends years building something so beautiful should get supported. i'd rather give my money to such a developer than to ubisoft or bethesda. Where is the ingame store?

    Manor Lords is the best medieval city builder I've ever played. But that's just the base game. In terms of content, the game is still very incomplete. But the developers got the hardest part right, which is the base, the mechanics and the UI. It remains to be seen if they'll be able to get the 'easy' part right, with more buildings, more combat options, more units, ETC.

    Its not overhyped, its exactly what it is; a great game
    I disappear into it every 3-6months for a long session and I love it
    We have forgotten what games are imo.
    We've forgotten that all games are not the same.
    That they don't all have to update every month with groundbreaking content.
    They don't have to provide something fresh to put on a youtuber's thumbnail.
    They don't have to be on top of the new cycle.
    Some games do need to drip feed content, like Helldivers.
    And we don't all have to be party to oscillating between crowdrage and overhype.

    • @Brasseurdecave
      @Brasseurdecave 26 дней назад +5

      It's great that you enjoy the game, but you have to remember that this game received hundreds of hours of hype from dozens of major youtubers with millions of collective subscribers. It's probably the most hyped game in recent memory. For $40 you are guaranteed at least 15-20h of playtime. That's about how long it takes to start with nothing and conquer the entire map, with multiple developed regions. That's a fairly steep ask even for an early access title, and especially steep when you consider that this early access title was so aggressively promoted.

    • @CriminalMindsQuotes
      @CriminalMindsQuotes 26 дней назад +1

      bruh its an decent game, you have done everything in about 10 hours in this game so not worth the price at all.

    • @Cramblit
      @Cramblit 26 дней назад +8

      @@Brasseurdecave That's not remotely a "steep ask", because the reply ability of the game can get you 100 hours easy.
      Then on top of that, each new update, and new mechanic they add, will have you coming back to try that out for another session. Through the next 2 years you can rack up another 100-200 hours easy.
      That's not a steep ask at all.
      As for how "Aggressively promoted" it was... it really wasn't. Not by the developer at any rate.. What the idiot YTBers who were all on the hype train were saying isn't the fault of the developer. In-fact, the developer attempted multiple times to try to derail that hype train by keeping peoples expectations in check, and reminidng people that the game is not remotely close to being finished yet, and there was still a long list of things not yet ready.. The developer didn't even really want to release it yet, but people kept hyping up and begging for a playable version, so he finally did.

    • @Brasseurdecave
      @Brasseurdecave 26 дней назад

      @@Cramblit
      Replay value is subjective. Honestly, if you can get 100h of replay value out of the game that's fairly impressive. From my point of view, the town management systems are extremely bare bones and not very engaging. Combat is repetitive and the AI is, as Resonant points out, lacking. I have no doubt that some people will spend time puttering around building a town just because it's pretty. That's great, but the game itself is rather shallow at this stage. It is a steep ask, because there are dozens of games out there, in this same genre no less, that retail for $40 or less that will offer you 100h+ of content on the first playthrough, and perhaps 400-500+ hours of replay value. Many of those games are fully released and still less expensive than ML. The fact that the dev is expecting people to spend $40 for a game that has barely 15h of first pass content is the very definition of a steep ask. I would say nothing if the price were $25-30. That would be totally reasonable.
      As far as hype is concerned, really doesn't matter if the Dev tried to hype the game or not. The game was overhyped by the community, and the developer making one blog post at the end of development trying to clarify that ML is not Total War is not exactly a thorough effort at derailing the hype train. I don't blame him much for the high expectations, but let's not pretend like he spent years attempting to control them, either.
      The most hilarious aspect of all is the fact that there is a dedicated community of sycophants who will defend the game to the death no matter how valid some of the criticism is. It's not a shit game, it's not a great game, it's just another, questionably priced early access title. That level of mediocrity is clearly too much for some to accept, and that's no doubt a function of how many months and years were spent by "idiot youtubers" blowing up expectations.

    • @Cramblit
      @Cramblit 26 дней назад +4

      @@Brasseurdecave You have to be fair in the judgement though.. that "mediocrity" as you say, is done by 1 person, and in the scope of games lately, it's done quite well despite still being Early Access, and can still give plenty of value in a medieval town builder.
      The amount of hundreds of disappointing games in the past 7 years developed by hundreds or htousands of people with millions of dollars, makes it quite nice that a single developer with passion has made such a good down to earth game.
      The game isn't perfect, no game is, but scoffing that its "mediocre at best" when its one man doing it alone, is actually quite impressive.
      ------------
      As for "spending years to quell the hype train" argument, that's not his job. It isn't his fault for the hype. It's not like NMS where it was the developer constantly hyping up and over stating the product. He only ever said what it was, and how it was. It was everyone else extrapolating the statements, and blowing them up into something that wasn't said.
      One message prior to release, stating what the game is and isn't, and correcting that hype is all it takes.. If people still went in with over hyped expectations, that's on them. 100%

    The marketplace mechanic is awful. I wish there was an option to turn it off and just magically put required resources into houses as they need them. I have an overdraft of 200 food sitting in my “stockpile” while a literal fourth of my village starves to death because they cannot for the life of them figure out how to move the food to “available” market space. I hate how punishing corpses are, I fight a battle to defend my village against brigands and get a -45 approval punishment INSTANTLY because my three church families and burial pit family cannot burry 45 total bodies instantly. On top of the mentioned ale mechanic that is so punishing that you have mentioned, half of my town leaves before the end of the day and results in complete economic and infrastructural collapse. The game is fun for awhile, don’t get me wrong, but my god does mid to late game feel like pulling your teeth out. The game punishes you for trying to expand and bring more people into your town, but you need a ridiculously large work force just to MAKE all the things that make the game fun within a reasonable time frame that feels good and not as boring as watching paint dry. The market system needs to be overhauled or just straight up removed as it completely breaks on higher populations like 150-200

    I'm tired of games who look too good but they're no where close to the final product. Most of those games can be potential but they fade away with the lack of content, slow pace updates. And when you realize you don't know where this game goes, if it's worth the time and money, because it will repeat again. Another game coming from nowhere with huge promises and in the end it doesn't deliver what people expected it to be. "Total War Killer"💀
    To be fair, we're going to easy on this game, it didn't have a well thought foundation for a game it promised to people in trailers to be, like, the army battles are very cheap, copy paste of other games, it's really simple, you can't do much, there is a lack of cavalry armies, weapons, medieval equipments, forts, camps, all of the strategic planning tools to better utilize the warriors, it wasn't never there... No foundation, just a fragile copy of something way better.
    The building aspect is bad, you have to do everything by yourself, this is awful and lame, dud you have to decide when the villagers has to upgrade wtf this gaming feature is lame asf, why AI don't decide what's best themselves, why army don't do army stuff by themselves, the generals, the commanders, where are they? they need clicking to drag instructions, they don't hide in structures for m map, from behind trees, rocks, houses or whatever...lame asf
    Also, when you spent crazy time building your land, you have to claim a now empty land and restart again 🤡 this is lame, is that the "Total War" killer experience 🤡 you have to do it over and over again, you have no variation to buildings, most of things are the same, you as a lord you are stuck, there's no political mechanics into the game, royals replacements through time, new lords, family, the important characters in your kingdom, you can't interact with them, so lame, they are there in the village and you can't do anything, imagine that type of interaction from Crusader Kings in Manor Lords with quality mechanics for war operations, monarchy political affairs, corruption, betrayal, plagues, church and more stuff, the game has a small map, you can't have fun, have a huge map, with divisions, lands not empty but full of cities, forts, kingdoms, life, history, not just grass...no AI only modes, invite your friends, take a land territory, faction, culture, royal lines, historical events and make it fun, you have a bigger map, you can choose a place in the land, that place will load, but anything around it it's real time events, players in other regions will participate in big events, conquer, fight, deal with political affairs, rule the throne. Be the king in the next line. Most powerful kingdom whatever... This is how you become a "Total War" killer.. this is how you do it.

      I can agree that it is a half, or more than a half-empty game. But you missed the point about "Total War Killer". Developers and publishers never stated this game would be a Total War Killer. RUclipsrs did that, for the hype and likes. Manor Lords is a city-builder game. You said how upgrading villagers manually is lame... well, in many city builder games you do that, like in Anno 1800. You said it's lame because you start from zero in a new region... yes, like in any other city-builder game lol. This is not a Total War game, nor a grand strategy game, but a city-builder game, with additions of battles and politics. Currently, it only has basic features, and I'm bored as well. I want more around fortifications, more politics and rival lords, some relationship with the church and the king, and bigger cities. Maybe even becoming a count and each city is your vassal lord?

    Manor Lords is a classic case of a game that got way too much hype. If the gameplay design had received as much attention as the visual elements of the game, it would be a 200+ hour title. As it stands, it's mostly a toy. Considering how beautiful the game is, it's disappointing. I had high hopes that, when fully developed, the game might be a modern take on the Stronghold series of games. I can't imagine that being the case, even if the developer continues for years.
    The game does not need new maps, new buildings or cavalry. Several of its core systems need major overhauls or design revisions. The gameplay loops have just not been given enough thought and attention, and the game feels hollow as a result. It's very pretty, but that's about it and will always be the case unless Slavic Magic can work out how to improve the core mechanics and make the management aspect of the game feel more engaging for the player.

      Those things are still coming. The game isn't complete, nor was it stated that it was complete. in -fact, ALPHA is plastered EVERYWHERE In it..
      How are you surprised at all? It seems like the problem is you.

      @@RonPaulBot1234 You got the info that things are still a work in progress, and still early in its stages.
      You need to go in with the expectation that things are not finished. You went in with the expectation that things were. Don't lie to yourself.
      Did you go in with "Lets see what the game has at the moment" mentality, or "Lets go in with the expectation the game has this and this already" ? Be honest with yourself.

      @@Cramblit Your comment makes absolutely no sense though. If Slavic Magic stated that Cavalry and more specializes were planned for the game, but that they werent ready yet and therefore wont be there on release than you would have a point. The issue is that that wasnt what was done. Cavalry and expanded specializations was explicitly shown to be in the game, therefore it makes sense to assume that they would be in the game when you bought it. There was nothing that stated that those two features wouldnt be in the game, despite being shown in the trailers.
      You cannot make the idiotic claim that Ron is being unfair when all he's doing is taking what was shown in the official trailers and saying that those features shown arent in the game despite being shown in the trailer, and despite not being told that they were a work in progress. Basically you need to stop shilling for the game, because your argument is wildly asinine.

    The most disappointing release of an early access game with potential in a while.
    Rushed to release with no content update plan or schedule.
    What's there is great, but banished is currently a more complete experience - which costs a lot less.

    For me it's the lack of the RTS combat for me. When I first heard of it I was hoping to compete against total war, and seeing the combat turned what it into is sad. I was hoping for mods, etc. It seems very.. Close but not enough

      THe Dev behind Maor Lords said plenty of times that it wasn't and will never compete with Total War or any RTS strategy game, it's not the focus of the game. You need not fantasize stuff.

      The problem is that people just ignored the dev, he said it will not a game like this, youtubers over hyped it, other people did it and after buying it they where disappointed for no reason, they are disappointed and miss things that where never ment to be in this game the way the thought it would be and the dev said it like that and he said that this game will not nearly finished. People are just dumb and did not listen at all.
