The theology tree will likely be similar to the civ 5 piety tree. That's my guess at least. Thanks for making these vids. So much more concise than the developer live steams
Temples and full religions only arriving at the exploration age feels very wrong, because almost all of the world religions that we have today had already formed by that period of history. Not being able to convert Rome to Christianity or Kemer to Buddhism feels like a huge missed opportunity. Hell Confucius is in this game and you can’t play as his historical civilisation with his religious philosophy at the same time! I know the devs want to prevent snowballing, but moving one of the core elements of the early game to the middle game isn’t the best way to solve that problem IMO.
Judaism, Confucionism, Buddism, Christianity, Taoism, Hinduism and Zoroatrianism all are from before the exploration age, thinl in this regar the game is prioritizing game play at the cost of historical immerssion... for me a mistake.
It's very bizarre to see a gameplay choice like this, considering the devs have frequently touted their greater focus on historical immersion this time. I can't help but feel like the whole religion system is going to need a rework.
I think their explanation was that yes, religions were highly prominent during the antiquity age, but exploration was the period (particularly in Europe) where religion was a major motivator for expansion and wars, like during the Crusades or the Early Muslim Conquests under Muhammad
Good point, I guess the benefits are that you’ll be able to build missionaries anywhere while getting multiple relics, and you’ll prevent the other players from getting bonuses from their founder beliefs. Another thing to consider is that converting your settlements in distant lands will contribute more to the military victory in the exploration age. That being said, I would still like to see more founder beliefs that apply to your own settlements.
One thing, are you guys working on the map generation? It'd be nice to see less blocky continents, especially on the Continents map where we usually get two blobs that stretch from pole to pole.
I’m willing to bet we’ll also get a unique civic tree in the modern era similar to the theology tab but labeled ideology instead. Anyway, I really don’t like that everyone will get a religion and you can’t even fully convert them, but I will say I love the reliquary belief system, basically making it so that you can change how you accomplish a culture victory for the age based on what would suit you
I really hoped for a more innovative gameplay than the annoying missionary spam... I am excited for many changes in Civ VII, but micro-managing missionaries is one thing I have always hated.
Holy shit you weren't kidding. I was hoping we might get to have actual reformations this time around, since that would synergise quite well with the whole feature of evolving your empire through the ages. But the fact that Catholic/Protestant/Orthodox are considered separate religions from the start really puts that to bed, even if he's right about a religion civic tree.
Hah… no, it’s a marked downgrade in many a way, at least by Gathering Storm standards. I don’t know what this happiness stuff is about, but I rather did like the Faith system. It made sense.
Because Fireaxis / the Civilization team would rather pander and add obscure African warlords in order to have more non-white leaders rather than develop and display a deep understanding of any of the actual non-white civilizations that did achieve the same level of complexity in thought as those of Europe.
Man I hate how the UI looks overly simplistic. It feels like an indie game UI using Unity. It gives you great info and everything but I would like a bit more of a "personality" to it. Even better if it was tied to who you're playing as.
They all fall under Christianity, but ultimately are variations of how one serve their faith. The biggest difference I think is that Catholicism values the church more, which is why we have the vatican and churches are more organised. Protestantism, I think, values the bible more, and thus has a more community and personal feel to it. Not sure about orthodoxy though.
While they're different branches of one religion, they're significantly different in organization, and famously came to blows frequently during the "Exploration Age." Especially the Catholics and Protestants... many of the European wars of the 16th and 17th centuries can be linked to the rivalry of these branches. One could argue that other religions have similarly turbulent branches, and they'd be right. Firaxis doesn't seem to take as much notice of these, for whatever reason.
Judaism, Confucionism, Buddism, Christianity, Taoism, Hinduism and Zoroatrianism all are from before the exploration age, think in this regard the game is prioritizing game play at the cost of historical immerssion... for me a mistake.
Completely changed how? Seems basically identical to Civ 6. Pantheon to full religion, and spread via religious units. Kinda boring tbh. I would be so excited to see a functional religion system in a historical 4x, but almost all the time you can completely skip religion, and dominate. Can you skip military? Culture? Science? In some niche cases you can work around it. But you can basically ignore religion and be fine. If this is going to be the case in CIv 7, its a failed system.
By far your videos are the best at outlining what's coming
Wanna make us all pros on day 1 haha
yes. much more concise than others
Just found this channel - legitimately finding your presentation 100x more helpful than all the super big popular YTers
I’m happy to hear you like the presentation of my videos! I will always strive to make them as clear as possible with 0 fluff
Really is. Cuts out all the BS and just mainlines info smooth and concise
A religion-specific tech tree sounds so cool
Extremely well written and edited. So much info in a short video! Great job, thank you.
Nice
I like these short format videos - very informative
I’m glad you like them, I try to explain things as efficiently as I can
You are the GOAT for making all these analysis and info compilation videos, hats off to you!
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
Good synthesis of what we know so far thank you
I appreciate that, thanks
Thank you for making these videos they are great
I’m happy you enjoy them

The consequences of condensing vast swaths of history into a three act structure, I guess.

Very true, I hope they change it some day
Great video man thank you
Thanks for watching
So if all your Founder beliefs are about spreading to foreign cities, what is the point of spreading it to your own people?
Good point, I guess the benefits are that you’ll be able to build missionaries anywhere while getting multiple relics, and you’ll prevent the other players from getting bonuses from their founder beliefs. Another thing to consider is that converting your settlements in distant lands will contribute more to the military victory in the exploration age. Curious how worth it would be to play as India since it says you lose your Pantheon belief once you found a religion

This game looks stunning

Doesn't seem a whole lot different from civ vi at this stage
What does "custom religion" even mean when they're all completely custom anyway? Name and symbol?
Probably. That's what it's been like for Civ 5 and 6.
Gonna wait for the mod that adds more religions
"Completely different" everything shown is almost identical to civ 6 lol
I don't even play civ6 and I don't see anything much different from civ5...
I have not seen faith as a ressource yet, and you have to convert urban and rural pop.
So thats probably the difference 😮

@@nevereasiermaybe they will implement that with a dlc some time after release xD

Can I still make boat Mormons?
Why Muslims or Buddist are just one religion and aren´t divided ?
Because Fireaxis / the Civilization team would rather pander and add obscure African warlords in order to have more non-white leaders rather than develop and display a deep understanding of any of the actual non-white civilizations that did achieve the same level of complexity in thought as those of Europe.
4:18 snowballing confirmed

Wait, why is Protestantism, Catholicism and Orhodoxy different?

I always wanted to start my own religion; so I did.

There is no religious victory in vii so religion isn’t as important
Gonna be annoyed if AI players can cheat apostle spam like in VI
ah yes, the Apostle gangs... I didnt mess around if they pulled that. War Dec in most cases. Horse units doing round ups.
@@SirJordanLore yeah same. Would be great if this was doable without the need for a war declaration
All your cities will be converted to nudeism.
The ui is still butt ugly
Where Muhammad face
humankind still better
whaha nice joke
who cares
