I turn 33 in January. Been skating most of this time though(over half my life at this point). I hope I can start stretching and taking better care of myself so I can keep skating for a good while.
I turn 34 in October. Shit sucks. I have 2 complete skateboards but barely even popped an ollie this summer. Kids and body pain and the worst local skatepark you have ever fathomed are discouraging me.
@@LowEndMarauder bro I can feel your struggle. 33 here and I started just recently. There are days I can do a decent olie, pop shuv, 180FS, nolie, fakie pop shuv, and even almost heelflip. And there are also days I can barely olie. My body is in constant pain and I'm quickly exhausted while those kids at skatepark shred like insane. But I love it.
I’m 32 and I’m just getting back into skating after about 15 years. Sometimes I feel like I’m too old to really get any better and that I only have like a couple years left, so I should probably just find a different hobby, but watching Ben definitely helps keep me motivated and makes me feel like I still have plenty of years of good skating left. Actually just landed my first feeble grind a couple weeks ago.🤙🏼
we need a video with ben and chad together. perhaps Chad teaching Ben some new miniramp tricks or Ben showing Chad some Canadian skateparks. or just the two talking or whatever, doesn't even matter what they'd do
yeah dude!!! my favourite thing about skating is how ppl at every level are always learning. whether you're new or an OG, there's always room to get better and it's so inspiring.

Amazing, your progression and the way you grow your confidence without doing crazy dangerous things is like showing a good path to take. I'm not ashamed to recognize I am following your example. Again thanks a lot.
Great video dude. Your front boards are sweet. Can’t quite figure out the weight on it to come out regular cleanly. Love the style of this video, just a quick chat and some skating feel like im just chilling at the park. Cheers dude thanks for the content
3:26 that’s what she said. Just kidding! Greetings from Germany and best wishes. I’ve been watching since the beginning. Missing the day in the life as a skating carpenter. Greets from the skating dad from cologne 😬
I’m going to have to take my 12 year old nephew over to Duncan! Kid got me back into skating after 15 years. Looks much more mellow than our local on salt spring Island for the young lad to learn and a 37 year old trying to get his legs back.
@@luqmanhakeem3070 There's probably many others with better tips but what worked for me was placing my board on the flat rail then trying to jump up and balance on it. It seems so scary and unapproachable at first but as long as you go into it believing you can do it you will.
Was awesome to see you push through the fear of the nose slide on the rail. Motivating to see a good skater have those same feelings of anxiety and get over it. Keep up the good work. God bless!
“Sounds weirdly narcissistic when you put it like that”. Lol. I get ya. I feel the same way when I film my self and put it on you tube but whatever it’s fun to watch your vids!!! Keep em coming!!! Maybe a crook on that rail next!!!
Ben since your on the Island you should come skate our cool little diy park at the fernwood community centre... bunch of rails, manny pads, kickers, boxes, 1/4 pipe its fun !
I'm envious of the space in the skateparks you frequent. A really nice concrete park was opened recently, but it is compact and there isn't much room once a few skaters show up. I need a little space for my run up on obstacles...to get my speed right and feet set.
Perfect video for me! I’m trying to be more confident on round rails. I lost my 50s on them after falling forward on my face and chipping my front tooth in half hopefully get them back consistently soon it’s just been hard because the anxiety and fear :(
This was me for the longest time, growing up the local park I spent all my time at was nothing but ledges and a nice hubba with one tall ass hand rail for a long 4 stair, so I never really got to get comfortable all rails, but the park I go to now has a nice little round rail on flat that I’ve been forcing myself to learn, never would I thought I’d be fs smithing on a rail, much less trying bigspin board slides
Have developed an insane fear of rails. Just feel like I'm gonna hit it and it's gonna be way slicker than I expect and I'm gonna fall backwards and smash my head on the rail and die. Which is weird because railslides oops boardslides were one of the very first tricks I learned, when I still rode a K-Mart board. The vid where you work up to hitting a handrail is really helpful, hoping I can work my way over my fear like that..
great vid ben as per usual, loved hearing the ting when you skate the rail, have to say almost jumped outta my chair at 4:11 thought that bug was coming straight at me!
That park looks like such a great place to learn and build up some confidence. I recently built a 13” ledge to practice on. Got my nose slides down but I’m terrified to put trucks to it. Any tips on 5050s on ledges?
Frontside 5050 = Ollie up, be sure you get your back wheels over the ledge height, you can come parallel or from a bit of an angle. Try to aim for the truck to land with the coping in the middle and then remember to have your weight on your heelside, this will make your wheels lock in quite easy. Do a little manual/nodge out and BOOM!
you just basically ollie up a curb sideways and ride on the edge of it. lock the wheels to the side of the ledge so you‘re fully on and stable. ride off with a little manual.
dude! just hit that duncan park yesterday. the new section is a nice addition, got good flow. I also think it became the second largest hockey stick a few years ago!..dont quote me on that tho
👏💕 Congrats on gettin that nose slide. They're scary because if you go over the top of the bar with your wheels tryinf to lock it in 😬 PS- what about FS feeble grinds? You ever do those 🤔
Hey Ben you should plan an euro-trip and shred in the amazing parks we got. In Barcelona there’s a 1 million € street plaza and Switzerland has beautiful indoors
wow all the tricks look better on the bigger rail the feeble and front 50/50 are solid. How about a nose slide nose blunt transfer to the other side. Or crook or switch crook would look amazing. I could not do them your very brave.
How much of what you are doing in videos are things that you already did or have done in the past and what is new that you have never done before picking up your board again?
Its interesting how you are vibin much more with the front 50. I'm a bit lower level on rails than you and back 50 cross lock I find much more safe and stable than front 50s (From your past experience slipout falling on your back I am sure you know what I mean).
Hey Ben have you ever tried a chance skateboard before? Most boards last me 1-3 months but this one lasted me abt 6 months and it still is skateable I’ve tried lots of boards and this one is so superior in every way I would definitely recommend purchasing one. I think it’s a more low key company because the only place I’ve seen these boards being sold is at replay board shop in Abbotsford
The World's largest hockey stick is the most Canadian thing I have ever seen.
as a 33 year old who just got back into skating, so cool to see you're still making progress
skrt 30 and gettting back into it heavy. The 30+ skaters are the real ones

i'd buy that tshirt
That’s a perfect shirt idea
As someone who skated their first rail, a flat bar, last summer at the age of 43 I draw inspiration from Ben. Keep it up!

I’ve been loving this rail Skating too.
I recall Ben talking about rails he used to skate, then saying “I’ll probably never do that again”

That rail is big but not huge. Thanks for sharing, motivated me to try more
Getting back into skateboarding at 37 because of your videos. Spent an hour the last 2 days trying to get switch ollies
I like all your videos before I even finish them because I know you never disappoint with content.
Damn Ben.. Killing it! That nose slide was nice.. you almost have to lean over the rail to keep em tight! Keep it up!
Every description at Duncan park was perfect Lolol happy shredding! Lookin good on the roundbars
That nose slide looks really good on a rail and a down rail especially
I laughed for about a minute at "It had to be the biggest when they built it, otherwise why would you do that?"
Great to hear that your getting better at rails! Keep it up😎👍👍👍👍

the trick to nosesliding and kgrinding rails is definitely to think of it like a ledge

It's not a down rail, it's a flat bar with slope. That's what I'm going to tell myself next time i skate a handrail.
When Rick McCrank first started to skate bigger rails he told himself they were just ledges, so he skated them as such and found instant success.
