- Mixing color is intimidating for many artists. Especially mixing neutral colors in paintings. This lesson shows a great way to learn how to mix artists colors in neutral shades. Use this for oils or acrylics for confident paint mixing.
By using common paint swatches you can create challenges for yourself. Try to mix the color using the step-by-step process suggested in this lesson.
Find the hue, value and saturation of the color and work from there. You will see how easy it is to isolate the color using a process that is logical.

Why the neutrals are important in painting? Where do it use
Well neutrals are desaturated colors and most of the colors in nature are neutrals of some sort. Think of aerial perspective - like a distant hill - it is not a bright green, but a dull blue/violet maybe. That is a type of neutral or gray color.
@@MalcolmDewey thank you sir. I'm struggling with distant hills and foliage colours. Q#1How to manage seeing values when painting outdoor? Q#2 And also what distingues painting a morning or evening or early dawn painting? It's really hard to paint and reflect exact time of the day.
