Fun fact, the singer Eric Martin wrote this song when he was only 15 about an older girl who was a neighbor that he had a crush on. Until this song broke he said he felt like the forgotten member of the band because the other three were so gifted and so famous. It was the guitar player Paul Gilbert who heard it on an old cassette of Eric’s and insisted they do it - Eric Martin didn’t really want to, but it changed his life and he said girls stopped passing by him on the tour bus. They are still together minus the late Pat Torpey, who was with the Knack (My Sharona) before Mr. Big. So go see them live!
I’m listening to all reactions of this song right now. LOVE your reaction . Gives me the goosebumps. The voice on that man is fire 🔥. The harmony is off the charts. I’m subscribing to everyone who has a great reaction to this song and you are one of them.

I am crazy about this song. None of my friends loved it. Thank you for vindicating me. It's a hopeful, happy-feeling thang. I was pregnant with my first child, I believe. My marriage was full of negativity, drugs, violence, alcohol. This song took me out of that. I could close my eyes, rub my belly, talk to my unborn son, feel happy and comforted.
Mr Big was HUGH when I was a later teen (1988-1991). Played at all school dances, rec centers. For me it was one of the most unique voices at the time.
Eric Martin is a phenomenal vocalist, and I've loved his voice since I was probably 12 years old. That was over 30 years ago. Still love him. Loved seeing your reaction to him! He actually wrote this song for a girl he had a crush on, but she friend zoned him. He was trying to impress her. He just wasted it on the wrong girl, but the rest of us get to listen to his beautiful voice, and see a playful, silly side of Eric and the rest of the band. Eric Martin's smile is so freaking adorable!
On my play list for almost 25 years .... Eric Martin was a solo act when he came and saw my band play in San Rafael, CA... everyone in the Bay Area knew he would be BIG time someday...pun intended.... great reaction, thumbs up....
I can see you really digging the message in this song, I always felt so jealous of any girl or woman who was given such a beautiful way to make it clear that she is worth way more than they way she is allowing herself to be treated.
I was 19 when this song came out...remember driving the back roads with a group of friends going to a campfire and jamming to this...great tune from the early 90s
The lead singer, Eric Martin, wrote this as a teenager many many years before Mr.Big. I have many memories seeing him play in the Bay Area. Green Tinted Sixties Mind is another great song by them.
People make fun of these hair bands, but many of those bands were talented and produced some good music. This song reminds me of the summertime in my early teens when I started my band with my best friends. It was on MTV all the time, and that's all I watched lol.
Think the problem was this one got overplayed on MTV like crazy, preferred Ugly Kid Joe-Everything About You at the time. Now time has passed like the Bryan Adams one from Robin Hood I can appreciate them more.
They all got over played. Ugly Kid Joe really got to me after a while lol. Firehouse Dont treat Me Bad, Steeleheart I'll never Let You go, Slaughter, Trixter, Damn Yankees lol...the list goes on. If I never hear Def Leppard again it will be too soon. Some I'll never get tired of though.
Eric Martin is an amazing vocalist. Billy Sheehan on bass, Paul GIlbert on guitar. This was unique for them, but I always loved "Just Take My Heart". For more fast-paced, check out "Addicted To That Rush" for some great duels between Billy and Paul. RIP: Pat Torpey!
Song was back in 1991. Watching this its amazing because two of the Greatest players are in this group. Paul Gilbert(guitarist) & Billy Sheehan(bassist).
I was a young Marine, 19 years old, when this song came out, and I remember singing along with this song every time that I slow danced with a young lady to it. LOL
Yes!! Love it, brings back some fun memories. Bonus points for the gorgeous hair on the singer. Extreme's More than Words a couple of weeks back, now this one, now you need to do (please) Tesla's Signs.
This song, "To B Wth You" & Mr. Big was vry popular when I grad- uated high school..in 1993..wich was waaaaay back in the day..So yes..They hav ben around a while
When this song came out, it went into the setlist of the band I was in at the time. I've played a few other songs of theirs as well. "Green Tinted Sixties Mind" and "Daddy, Bother, Lover, Little Boy" were two of them and they are quite different from "To Be With You". You should check them out to see what I mean. RIP Pat Torpey.
This song was huge in 1991, slow dance song at parties and clubs. The band members were all virtuosos... Billy Sheehan on bass, Paul Gilbert on guitar, the late Pat Torpey on drums and vocalist Eric Martin, who flexes his vocal muscles in this song, which he actually wrote as a teenager. This band could have been bigger, but their timing was off. They emerged right when rock and roll was turning toward grunge, and alternative rock and suddenly bands like Mr. Big weren't so hip anymore. They were actually a hard rock/metal band, but this ballad was their massive hit that kind of cut across genres.
One of my favorites . Only 33 but absolutely love all the stuff I grew up with.. Hair bands , country rock hip- hop, r&b and rap. Love watching your reactions
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I was in jr. high when it came out; at that age when girls start thinking about falling in love. I had the biggest crush on the lead singer! I was so young, so innocent and SO naive... anything seemed possible. In my imagination, love would feel like perfect four part harmony. This song always takes me back to that feeling. Great memories! ...and I was raised on good harmony (The Eagles, CSNY, Fleetwood Mac, my mom and dad singing Simon & Garfunkel songs while my dad played guitar) so this song... ggaaaahhhhh!!!! So tight!
Oh . . . how could I have forgotten this one? I LOVED this, but haven't thought of it in a long time. "Community Sing", 90's style. That locked-in beat, and gravelly voice -- just a great song.
Amazing song. I had the fortune to meet the lead singer Eric Martin in the most unexpected places. I manage a claires store in California one day and here he strolls in looking for a head band. Not knowing it was him when I was ringing him up I asked him if anyone ever told him he looked like the singer from mr big and he said yeah because he was. I completely fangirled and asked for his autograph pulled out some receipt paper for him to autograph and he reaches in his pocket and hands me a guitar pick. I've seen him in my store a couple times since the first encounter.
What is there to say about this song except it's perfect..Erics' voice is one of my top 5 favs of all time and lm in my 60's now..the memories that go with this song are still so thick in my mind, it's beautiful..thank you ...new subscriber here because if you can apprieciate this song , l can appreciate you and your reactions to other oldies but goodies :)

OOOooooooh this brings back so many teenage memories for me.....who says you can't time travel....music does this for me, takes me right back!!! Love it!!
This takes me back to high school. This song was played a lot on the radio. Mr. Big was one of those amazing bands. I also love "Wild World" by them as well!!!
LOL as kids today discover the music we grew up to. All of these songs came from an era where pop/rock stars actually knew how to compose, sing, and play real musical instruments.
this just takes me back to when I was little, and my mom would sing along to this when she was riding her bike with me and she was listening ti it on her walkman hehe
YES! I was gonna say put Mr. Big on your list. Now that you have, Billy Sheehan (bass) joined a band called The Winery Dogs. It’s Billy, Mike Portnoy.& Richie Kotzen, aka The Power Trio.”Elevate” is the song to listen to.
Sons of Apollo is great as well; Billy & Mike with Bumblefoot (great player), Derek Sherinian (keys and played w/Mike in Dream Theater) and Jeff Scott Soto on vocals. "God of the Sun", "Coming Home" and "Lost in Oblivion" are stand otus
Jason Williams They’re going on tour soon! I hope I can see them in NY in May. My friend “discovered” them one night and had me listen. I love Richie’s voice. He’s like a throaty Chris Cornell. And a hell of a guitar player. Billy Sheehan did some things with that bass that I didn’t know could be done! And then Portnoy. I don’t think he has 2 arms lol
Literally a super group! Eric Martin on vocals, R.I.P drummer Pat torpey, #2 best bassist in rock Bad Billy Sheehan, and one of the greatest, most underrated guitarist EVER, Paul Gilbert!!!!!
I worked for Electronic Data Systems way back in the day. We worked 12 hour shifts and weren't allowed to play radios. There was a radio station on the phone. You call it and it played music nonstop. We put it on speaker and listened to it for 12 hours every night. On this station was the first time I had ever heard this song. Fell in love with it! I bought the CD and imho, it wasn't even the best song. Great CD!!
This song was super popular back around 1990, but this was not a typical Mr. Big song. They were a hard rock band known for their virtuosity on all of their instruments, far more than their singing. Billy Sheehan is often considered one of if not the best rock bassist in the last 30 years, and Paul Gilbert, the guitar player, is way up there as well. Their song 'Addicted to that Rush' really showed off their chops as their debut single. The funny thing about 'To Be WIth You' is it wasn't even planned to be on the album. They added it as a last minute addition to fill it out with enough tracks and didn't initially think it would take off. It became a phenomenon, though.
"Goin' Where the Wind Blows" and "Just Take My Heart" are others in this same vein, "Take Cover", "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind", "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy (The Electric Drill Song)" and "Merciless" are some great ones to check out
Thsi was a Very Important Song to me when I was about fourteen:) It was huge in Germany - I went on an exchange student thing and I had to write the lyrics out for all my German buddies. Huge rows about whether it was 'a line of dreams and blues' or ''greens and blues'.
This song was all over the radio in the early 90s. I remember riding the bus back in middle school and it would come on the radio, all the girls would sing along. Most of us boys hated it because it wasn't enough rock (all the girls singing it at the top of their lungs probably didn't help), but as I got older, I really grew to appreciate it. They had another semi-hit with Just Take My Heart. It's another ballad but more of a rock feel. And another top-40 hit with a remake of the Cat Stevens song Wild World.
Fun fact, the singer Eric Martin wrote this song when he was only 15 about an older girl who was a neighbor that he had a crush on. Until this song broke he said he felt like the forgotten member of the band because the other three were so gifted and so famous. Virtuoso musicians and singer - - but they could never come up with Anything that was Anywhere near this.

Fantastic song. So heartfelt
I saw Mr. Big open for Eddie Money in the 80s when this song was getting radio play. And now one of my favorite rock stars has passed..... so sad.
