      Sounds scary as hell. But you have to face the full force of the attack and stare it down if you want to eliminate future attacks. The amygdala triggers the attack because of the input from the rest of your brain, the only way to stop the amygdala from firing is if you truly are unafraid of the panic attack, and to do that you have to face it and defeat it

      wow i can only imagine! sending health and good energy your way! i have a question if you feel comfortable answering. since most of us freak out thinking our panic attacks could be something more serious- do you happen to remember the different feelings between heart attack and panic attacks? everything i read online isn’t really helpful bc it just describes what i feel during my panic attacks which of course makes it worse 😭 take care! ☺️

      @@amymatlock2749 Thank you. Absolutely. It happened in the morning right after I got up from bed. I felt a tightening in the chest and labored breathing. Instantly, I knew something was wrong and looked very flush according to my wife and felt very clammy. The chest tightening and weight you feel on the chest at least to me is the difference and of course, the labored breathng as well. I also had a shooting pain down the arm - some get jaw pain. Its kind of like you are drowning in air. If I can breathe ok, I can usually work myself down from a PA with the help of a light dose of xanax equivalent ( I use maybe 5 tablets of.5mg a year on an emergency basis - I break them in half - they help me and I'm very aware of the dangers). I have a blood pressure cuff and a watch that measures heart rate and blood oxygen as well but sometimes that just feeds data to the PA and makes it worse. Its hard to really describe a heart attack other than it really is an oh sh*t moment - there is an immediate sense of doom. My PA's may be different than other people's and I've managed them much better recently - but it took a couple of ambulance rides and full checkouts to reassure myself that its in my head. BTW I am very physically fit and eat a mostly plant based diet. I had what is called a coronary artery dissection of the LAD- it was probably associated with an extreme workout according to my cardiologist at Cleve Clinic. Unless you have a history of heart problems, you just need to keep it positive and reinforce that its a panic attack only and look for reasons to mentally counter that you are having a PA. Im not advocating cbd but it has helped me in some situations as well. The problem with cbd is you need a quick delivery method during a PA so its either vape or smoke which I'm not a fan of. Tinctures take a while... Stay away from high caffeine products or over indulging in booze. Being hung over is a perfect set up for a PA. Spend a little money and get a full heart scan or check out by your physician or a cardiologist. The knowledge that you have passed the medical test will provide a basis for you to mentally counter your PA. I hope this helps you and if I can provide any more assistance I would be happy to. Panic attacks really suck - people that have never had one just cant relate -they think its like anxiety and this is a WHOLE different animal. God bless you and I wish you a happy holday season.

      @@kevb6233 😢 I’ve been having them since my Dad passed. And I can’t get rid of the feelings of feeling like I’m dying now. Then the ER or ambulance says everything I normal and then I settle down and KNOW I’m alright. . . But the bad part is when I don’t want to keep bugging the ER (no health insurance either) nor do I want to keep calling the ambulance to a “false alarm”! Just makes matters worse! And I live alone so I worry no one is going to know or find me in time before something happens. . . I hate this feeling and am SO TIRED of it in the short but VERY LONG 2 1/2 months that I’ve been dealing with / struggling with it! I feel for anyone that goes through this, I never knew what Panic Attacks are until I started having them more recently. I’m a 35 year old male, very health (minus my smoking habits) and I want to quit but it’s SO HARD cause it “FEELS” like it helps to calm me down. . . Plus I’ve changed SO MANY things in my life recently: Foods, LOTS of Water, Very Little Caffeine, Etc. and I feel the Cigs are the only thing that helps me to “catch my breath” at times, while other times I can’t even smoke a cig. I go from hurting in chest (left side and middle 99.999% of the time), severe short of breath where I’m losing all oxygen, etc. etc. you know what it is. . . Can’t shake the feeling! And I AM afraid to die! I’ve lived a bit of a rough life despite being raised by a Godly Father & Mother! I just woke up at 3:34am with a “PA” and now can’t go back to sleep (it’s now 4:04am) . . . Can’t breathe correctly in my nose or mouth, I start freaking out! I am currently sitting in the Hospital parking lot “JUST IN CASE”, at least someone close by. Sometimes after sitting for here a little bit I realize I’m alright and then I go on back to the house and lay back down. But MAN it’s SO EXHAUSTING to say the very least!!!!!!! I dealt with PTSD for 10-12 years and now this! I can’t catch a break it seems! I hope you’re much better now my friend and hope you’ve found healing! Do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord & Savior!? I start praying everytime I start going through all this and asking God for forgiveness in hopes that if something were to happen I’ll make it on to Heaven! VERY SCARY STUFF!!!!!! Nothing to play with!

I couldn't work out what it was and went to several doctors. I didn't think it could be panic attacks because I love teaching and I don't feel threatened or worried by kids. But, sure enough after months away my fear must have grown. My confidence dwindled. Please check out my first video about panic attacks, Anxiety Attacks and Breaking the Panic Cycle, at ruclips.net/video/rUXXPJOlXow/видео.html . I should clarify about taking deep breaths. This can help calm anxiety by slowing down your breathing and heart rate, but the key is to take slower, rather than deeper breaths. When you start to panic, and especially if you feel a shortness of breath, trying to take deep breaths can lead to faster breathing like panting, which is going to make things worse. Here's a study about breathing when hyperventilating during a panic attack (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3327286/ ), summarized in this press release (www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2010-12/smu-nbt122010.php )

    Every time I have one, I quickly type in "panic attacks" on RUclips and just watching these videos takes my mind elsewhere, until the panic attack passes away. I usually anticipate them 1-2min ahead based on sudden strange feeling I get with growing intensity.
    The worst scenario is when I get them during sleep and it wakes me up - in that moment U don't know if U R in the nightmare or U R dying and it takes a while to realise what's going on, unfortunately I am in passenger's seat the whole time and can only wait (about 5-10min).
    I observed that following seem to trigger panic attacks in my case:
    - Caffeine
    - Nicotine
    - Stress exposure

Sadly Dr’s start looking at you like “Oh No, Not You Again!” . . . And now I go to a completely different hospital where I feel more cared for. But no one can figure out the issue. The first hospital just says “anxiety” as that’s now the easy answer! But this new hospital doesn’t know what’s going on? I’ve only been to them twice now. The first place literally 15 times before I quit going because they always write me off. To me, they’ve made me feel like I’m “crying wolf”. And that THE FURTHEST THING FROM THE TRUTH! I HATE Doctors and I hate Hospitals & Medicine so for me to ever go in the first place YOU (or atleast I) know IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING MAJOR! I have GI based panic attacks. While there is a slight respiratory/ cardiac component, GI symptoms are the biggest component. Do you have plans of providing a video that might help people like me?

    • @SelfHelpToons
      @SelfHelpToons  3 года назад +6

      Regardless of what triggers your panic attacks, you need to be aware of the kinds of thoughts you have that escalate your panic, and figure out some calming things you can say to yourself instead. Then, whenever you start having these anxious thoughts related to your physical symptoms, you need to remind yourself of the calming thoughts before things have a chance to escalate. If your panic is GI based, then your trigger may be some feeling in your stomach, followed by thoughts that you're going to throw up or have diarrhea, but the sooner you can calm these thoughts, the less severe your symptoms will be, because stress and anxiety intensify GI symptoms.
      If you're worried you'll embarrass yourself as a result of your GI symptoms, you need to find thoughts to calm whatever fears you have. If you have thoughts that your GI symptoms are something life threatening, then get them checked out by a doctor. Once you know there is nothing seriously wrong, you need to remind yourself that you don't have cancer or whatever your biggest fear is, and that worst case scenario is you throw up or have diarrhea. That's not pleasant, but you've experienced it lots of times in the past and survived, and so you'll survive it this time as well.

    This is nothing like a panic attack that I go through and the breathing does not help. When I go into anxiety about being put in jail or mental ward, breathign and counting does not help. In addtion when I am in fear thinking about dying or being in a casket that actually helps because dying will take me away from the emotional pain.

    I have suffered from debilitating panic disorder for over 20 yrs, I'm 42 started in high school. I trusted my GP back then as a kid and didn't know better. I now take 3mg of Xanax every day and have for 20 yrs, never abuse it or use more but alot of days in pretty sure I'm addicted and dependent on it. These literally suck I just had a nuclear stress test and echocardiogram along with ekg done at a cardiologist and even that can't convince me 100% it's not heart related when I get them. Was told by the cardiologist that heart was in great shape and strong. I'm scared to go places, drive long distances or go on vacations because fear of being away from hospital too far. They literally control my life

      I feel like this too, it's scary and often starts without a trigger, no reason for it.
      I just had one again and felt like I was going to pass out, shaking, breathless, rapid heart beat etc.
      It sucks, is stressful and worrisome.
      I was given amitriptyline before but never took them due to a possible side effect called heart block. When you're already worried about your heart it stopped me taking them plus I don't like taking anything unless necessary. I think I'm going to ring Dr's when they open on Monday and ask again for them as I need something. I can't keep living like this it's scary going through them and depressing after them as you worry about the next one and why this keeps happening 😢 quality of life definitely is affected.

      @user-xy7ch3mu9r 100% I've always said wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. But agree ppl who think it's all in the head which it really is, wish they could go through one bad one and feel the fear, sensations, the realness of them then give me their opinion

    • @Rachie-nj3oi
      @Rachie-nj3oi Год назад +1

      @@michaelrieken3127 ye I too don't wish it on anyone just a switch of bodies once so they can understand it what it's like. That annoys me when they say its just in your head as the sensations and the experience are/feel real and scary. When they say its all in your head it doesn't help even if its true because it doesn't feel that way. If they experienced it once they would be more understanding imo.
      It's hard to understand when you haven't experienced it yourself.
      It's also hard to imagine it's all in the head when most of the time there is no trigger or reason to feel like that.
      If its fight and flight response I wish they could just say here's a pill to turn it off permanently. I don't need it lol.
      Can't believe you have been suffering so long you are strong 💪
      I hope we all find a solution or better yet a prevention to this soon 🙏

    I just started getting anxiety attacks. and nothing is helping. alot has changed in my life so it's very hard to tell what's the underlying cause . I am a long haul truck driver and am now getting these more often during the night
    when I am sleeping or attempting to sleep. the feeling so intense i can't even stay in the truck and need to get out. it takes me sometimes 4 hours to be able to force my self back into the truck and lay down to sleep. it's really affecting me badly. I only get them when I'm working and never when I am home. but problem is I'm at work up to 7 days straight and home for 1.5 so now I'm wondering if I should just quit but all the expenses we've got rely on this job.

      Lots of symptoms like dizziness that people experience during a panic attack can be the result of anxiety without any underlying medical issues. Since I'm not a medical doctor, and I've never examined you, I can't comment on your physical health, but it's really common for people to have panic attacks and get a series of medical tests that come back fine, and all of their physical/physiological symptoms are being caused by anxiety and panic. • @SelfHelpToons
      @SelfHelpToons  3 года назад +1

      No, a panic attack can't make you suffocate. When people panic they often feel like they can't breathe and start gasping for breath which leads to hyperventilation which can leave you feeling dizzy, but you won't suffocate. If you start to hyperventilate, you can slow down your breathing by using this technique ruclips.net/video/YeAMHacC8P8/видео.html

      It is common to have that feeling in your legs during a panic attack and it's a common symptom of anxiety, and a panic attack can't cause you to become paralyzed.
