During my whole school year I was suffering intensely from those beliefs but I didn't find the exact effective solution for myself and your video it's a big treasure to escape from unbearable pain that I experienced. You give us a magical recipe to change our lives and handle our challenges.
I am grateful and I will never ever forget you video👊✊

"I must always expect the worst so when the worst happens i won't be so disappointed and when im proven wrong im more presently surprised"
In hindsight its am awful awful belief. I just wanted to keep myself safe from disappointment after a few bad birthday/Christmas presents but now years after the fact i just can't look forward to the best. I always fear the worst.
@Dee dee Thanks. Im sure I'll manage eventually. I have no ideas of giving up after all.
@@jorgegodinez522 i recommend you to look at doc snipes video on negative thoughts. One of the things she said which is being mentioned here is “Disqualifying the positive”. That cognitive distortion seems very similar to what youre presenting, so try asking yourself questions such as “whats so scary about focusing on the positive” then embracing it, and “what would I do if my bestfriend was living this experience”. All in all brother, things go wrong down the line and all we can do is get stronger. We cant control what we dont have a grasp on, and trying to control the future is a losing game. Lifes just a moment so live it up and be free. Write down your cognitive distortions and challenge them
Thank you for sharing this video, much appreciated!

This was an amazingly helpful video!!
Thank you so much 🙏
When people show pity or cares about me, I consider it as a prove that I'm not doing enough.
Now I started thinking that I'm not worthy of any kind of interaction.
This one of the best videos I have ever seen on RUclips
Thanks, that's so great to hear!

Thank you this has been very helpful :) You are saving lives. I mean this is evidence to alter my self belief of ‘world not being safe or terrible a place’ to ‘world is a little unsafe but not all that bad’ 👍🏻🙂
Thanks, glad it was helpful!
Hows it been with this?
love this vid
good information
awesome videos! usually people charge big bucks for this type of help 😭. this is great!
I did enough inner work to know my core beliefs are wrong, but I seem to not have enough force to fight them when they get triggered, so my actions continue to be dictate by them
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Amazing
Thanks!
New subscriber !!
Thanku❤
These videos are really helpful and comes with practical guidence. Done with love and caring. Best I have found so far. ❤
I have dissociation for over 10 years now, I have started therapy one year ago, it's very challenging to fight against beliefs about oneself but I can see the progress. This video helped me to sum up data provided by my therapist and now I see the picture of the therapy clearer. Mental health is not a joke at all and really defines the way you experience your life. Thank you very much for your video, for your effort and desire to help people around the world.
Thanks so much. I'm glad to hear it was helpful.
How did u find rules and assusnptions?
It took me needing to go into intensive outpatient therapy I became so severely depressed. I have a great life I know, but I spiraled finally to a dark place. One therapist there after YEARS of therapy pointed this theory out to me, and it’s been such an epiphany. Now comes the hard work. Changing them. I’m so angry it took so many years if my life to have it pointed out to me. Your videos are great for an addition to my therapy. Thank you.
Quality video. Very clear and organized.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
I learned DBT about ten years ago, but never learned CBT. I am hoping I can learn CBT now.
11:40 new experiences to provide evidence
12:53 con bias
Thank you so much now is very clear how can I write down my CBT Journal
Glad it was helpful!
this video is very helpful to understand the practicality of core belief to people whose English is not there first language
which books have you read mister? Where did you get all this interesting knowledge from?
Great video! Do you have a public email address to which I can ask you some mental health questions?
Thanks! You can find my email address at my About page, ruclips.net/user/MBCTOnlineabout , but ethically there's not much I can answer regarding specific mental health questions from people with whom I haven't done a proper intake and assessment.
❤❤❤
Very good explanation on how to change beliefs. I do have the question still, how do we know which beliefs are helpful and which are not?
and a second question: in the examples given for how we gather new information, we were always rewarded with the kind of info that fits the desired new belief. but what if the experience is actually the exact thing that fits the initial core belief? what if the party really is full of dismissive people?
To determine if your core beliefs are helpful to you, evaluate the impact of your core beliefs. Consider how your core beliefs affect your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Are they helping you achieve your goals and lead a fulfilling life, or are they hindering you in some way? If your core beliefs are causing you distress, interfering with your relationships, or preventing you from achieving your goals, they may not be helpful. And you can reflect on your values. Do your core beliefs align with your values and what's important to you in life. If your core beliefs conflict with your values or prevent you from living in accordance with them, they may not be helpful.
If the results of an experiment are discouraging you could reframe the experiment and rather than viewing the negative outcome as a failure or reinforcement of negative beliefs, reframe it as a learning opportunity. What did you learn from the experiment? How can you use this information to make positive changes in your behavior or beliefs? Or you could try a different experiment with a different approach. Experimentation is an important part of CBT, and not all experiments will produce positive results. The goal is to keep trying and learning from each experience.
@@SelfHelpToons Thank you so much for this in depth response. I was positively surprised when I read it because in all the years I have spent on youtube, I had not yet seen this level of engagement from a channel owner.
Your explanation really does clarify things. It’s not that I have never heard of any of those concepts, but I often don’t see the wood for the trees. You write about the concepts in such a concise and ordered way that it makes sense in my head.
As someone who struggles with anxious thoughts and worries, I can confirm that reframing something as a learning opportunity helps tremendously. The struggle feels less like a “waste of time” and more like just one of the challenges life throws onto the table.
I personally have always had a difficult time with concepts like values and beliefs. I understand on a surface level what is meant but it is still difficult to distinguish what comes from outside and what is really me (when looking at values) or what is rather plausible and what is distorted (when looking at beliefs). I know you have videos on those topics and I might find answers to some of my questions when working through those.
Thanks for this video very informative. Can you give examples of evidence against the core belief that "I'm defective"? I am currently struggling with it.
"Defective" is such a broad/general idea, you probably need to define what exactly you mean by defective and list specific areas in which you feel defective, and then try to find evidence against these individually.
@@SelfHelpToons I think it's just the belief that something is wrong with me.
I would ask myself, what do I mean by something is wrong with me? Is it anything specific? If so, I would ask myself what is the evidence for and against this and try to start believing it at least a little less strongly. I would try asking myself questions like the ones on the worksheet at bit.ly/3QkhZzR. If it's just a general sense that something is wrong with me, then that's so vague it's hard to argue against, and I would try to clarify what I meant when I think, something is wrong with me.
Sorry but I can't really come up with examples of evidence against your beliefs, because I don't know anything about you and your situation, and that's not really something I can figure out without actually meeting with you
@@SelfHelpToons okay thanks for this I appreciate the help
Can you please recommend the book which has more detailed explanation of this process???
You could try Mind Over Mood by DennisDennis Greenberger and Christine Padesky which is a self-help book, or Cognitive Behavior Therapy Basics and Beyond by Judith Beck which is geared towards therapists.
@@SelfHelpToons thanks a lot.. the way you explained here of belief change is much better, hope your recommended book has chapter on this "How to identify and change Belief"
Core belief
Ppl are unacceptable of me
Ppl are mean
People are scary
I can't rely on myself
I am not able to get w
I am having some trouble rating the beliefs before and after, how do I know the ratings are correct? (Maybe I am overthinking it a bit, please help).
Yes I believe you're overthinking it. The ratings are completely subjective so there's no correct rating and no benefit to trying to figure out whether it's exactly 70 or 75 or 80. Whatever feels right is fine. You could rate on a scale from 1 to 10 if that's easier, or even on a five-point scale with something like not at all, a little bit, moderately, a lot, completely.
If i have 2 core beliefs that are identical example: im unlovable / no one likes me - im worthless im worth nothing do i change both. They come in my thoughts and i feel like i act by them.
If you're able to change one then maybe the other one changes as well and you don't have to do anything about the second one. If not then you might have to try to change both.
@@SelfHelpToons thank you
Thank you ❤
I’m trying to deconstruct my Religious beliefs does anyone have any ideas.
How can we identify the belief itself initially ??

What is cbt
CBT refers to cognitive behavioral therapy.
Pdf is a dead link

Changing Core Beliefs Worksheet PDF: bit.ly/core-b
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
“Statement” and “belief” are not synonyms. Just saying words doesn't make them believable; no matter how many times you repeat them. Adults need _evidence_ to believe something; which this video acknowledges in relation to maintaining toxic core beliefs, but, completely ignores when it comes to forming new core beliefs. I don’t know how any mental health professional can confidently say just reiterating the same assertion over and over will turn that assertion into a belief.
I'm not sure what you're referring to. The last part of the video is about using behavioral experiments to find evidence to support our new beliefs
Would “I’m a good person, I dont need to change myself. i’m not inherently flawed” be too long of a belief?
You could see, I'm a good person, and I'm not inherently flawed, as a single belief or two separate related beliefs. I would say, I don't need to change myself, is a little more related to rules than beliefs, but I don't think the exact labels are that important, so there's nothing wrong with seeing the whole thing as a single rule if that's what makes most sense to you.
@@SelfHelpToons thank you sir!
@@SelfHelpToons hey self help, one more question! So what im doing is acting from the opposite of my core belief so every week im pursuing in new activities. Right now im doing “im bad” and this week im just implementing my strengths into everyday life. But what im noticing is that sometimes rules and assumptions about this belief comes up. Like i have to change myself or people see me as bad or what not and I kind of emotionally react when the thought comes through my mind or when I act this way. What should i do?
I'm not really able to comment on individual situations without having met with someone, but in general if I were having an emotional reaction based on old beliefs or rules or assumptions that I was trying to change, I would tell myself that's natural and not a big deal and not worry about it, and the emotion would probably start to subside. Or I could use cognitive restructuring to try to modify the thought I was having that was leading to the emotional reaction
