      My 18 year old recently moved out. I didn't think it would affect me, but I have been devastated. I am in a deep, dark hole. It came so fast, and I thought I had time to tell him the things I know he yearned for me to talk to him about. I feel like I missed the last 4 years of his life, because I just wanted to have fun with him, and not a father. I am drowning and I miss him so very much. Will this help?

    Wow, I needed to hear this, especially at 25 minutes. I'm almost 60 and my mother and siblings have always said I was a "bad kid, and bad man or loser." I have worked so hard to forgive them, the narcissists. I may go a year or 10 not speaking to them. I am handicapped from birth with Kleinfelter Syndrome and although I have recovered from alcohol since age 32 (when I got diagnosed) my family loves to make me miserable any way they can! I'm glad i have a few friends but I need to find an emotional positive support group. My thinking has always been messed up but I naturally attract bad people who try to befriend me and then I am too trusting and then I get ripped off, over and over again. I'm not a "Loser" but it's good the hear there are so many negative people out there. I have to fight my emotions every day to avoid depression and thinking bad thoughts about myself. What keeps me going most is eating well, no sugar, since I got type 2 diabetes 9 years ago.

I have Medicare and I take meds to sleep, may I come at 10am? "No, you must come at 8!" Today has been a horrible day emotionally; Why can't I let it go?

    When after good cognition, or understanding finally when one tries to move on, or trying to find happiness, the negative emotion

    Thank you for help. Do you have suggestions for trust issues causing negative cbt

    • @DocSnipes
      @DocSnipes  9 месяцев назад

      You’re so welcome.
      Trust issues can significantly impact one's thought patterns and behaviors, often leading to negative outcomes. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be a helpful tool in addressing these issues.
      CBT works by helping individuals understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It encourages individuals to identify and challenge negative or distorted thought patterns, which can include mistrust towards others. By recognizing these patterns, individuals can work towards changing their thoughts and beliefs, which can in turn improve their feelings and behaviors.
      For instance, if an individual has a pervasive belief that others cannot be trusted, this can lead to feelings of anxiety and behaviors that push others away. Through CBT, this individual can learn to challenge this belief, explore its origins, and consider alternative perspectives. They might find that this belief is not always true and that there are people in their life who are trustworthy.
      CBT also emphasizes the importance of problem-solving and goal-setting. If trust issues are causing problems in an individual's relationships or other areas of their life, they can work with their therapist to set goals for improving these areas and develop a plan to achieve these goals.
      In addition, CBT techniques can be practiced in a group setting, which can provide opportunities for individuals to learn from others who are dealing with similar issues. This can help them gain different perspectives and insights, and feel less alone in their struggles.
      In conclusion, while trust issues can lead to negative thought patterns and behaviors, CBT offers a range of strategies that can help individuals address these issues and work towards more positive outcomes.

    Please help me🙂

    • @cravinbob
      @cravinbob 3 года назад +7

      The thoughts stem from an incident? Sit down and write in detail about the incident and be honest. Stop talking about it, write it down. Writing allows you see the incident up close and slowly and the details. Be honest. When you finally finish edit it. then finish it. Read it. Now you are face to face with it and you can judge it.Let a trusted friend read it, a friend that is objective. Read it your self every few days. Is it still a big deal or are you tiring of it and ready to let it fade. Inner dialogue has been controlling you and you need to blame someone you believe but nobody cares anymore. You should not either. You can see your irrationality and its cause on paper. You will tire and not everything will be resolved. Is this what you want, to live it over and over or start to sweep it out the door? Do it. If you can't then you are trying too hard. Accept yourself and recognize you are the toxic one to yourself. Throw out the toxic and accept yourself again.
      Never seek revenge, it will not help you but hurt you and you will regret it.

      Thank you for watching the video. The statement you provided doesn't necessarily fit into a specific cognitive distortion category. However, it reflects a perspective that might be considered as a generalization or an overgeneralized belief about human behavior. Cognitive distortions typically involve irrational or biased thinking patterns, and the provided statement seems more like a subjective opinion rather than a specific cognitive distortion.

      @@Isinforblood To feel better reduce negative thoughts. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Do the practice without any expectations. When taking a walk, at office, in college, when reading, before sleep etc observe your breath sensations. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Reduce negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes--Counsellor.

    I see the practical nature of it but its still flawed. The only way to test our beliefs is to have them challenged. What if our beliefs are very much in congruence with reality? How do we move forward after becoming aware that our thoughts and feelings are a reflection of reality?

    • @DocSnipes
      @DocSnipes  3 месяца назад

      Understanding and Testing Beliefs
      When our beliefs are in congruence with reality, it's a sign that our perceptions are aligned with the facts of our situation. However, it's still beneficial to periodically review and test these beliefs to ensure they remain accurate and helpful. Here's how you can move forward after acknowledging that your thoughts and feelings reflect reality:
      1. Continue to Evaluate Beliefs: Even when beliefs seem to match reality, it's important to remain open to new information and perspectives. Regularly ask yourself, "What are the facts for and against my belief?" This helps maintain a balanced view and prevents complacency.
      2. Focus on the Whole Situation: Ensure that your belief takes into account the entire context of a situation, not just one aspect. This holistic view can prevent narrow-mindedness and promote a more nuanced understanding of events.
      3. Avoid Thinking Errors: Even accurate beliefs can be tainted by thinking errors, such as using extreme words or overgeneralizing. Regularly check for these errors to keep your beliefs grounded and rational.
      4. Seek Alternate Explanations: Consider other possible explanations for events to ensure that your belief is not the result of a biased viewpoint. This can also help in developing empathy and understanding different perspectives.
      5. Reflect on Impact: Ask yourself, "How is this belief moving me toward what and who is important to me?" Beliefs should ideally propel you towards your goals and values.
      6. Adjust as Necessary: If new evidence or experiences suggest that a belief is no longer accurate, be willing to adjust it. Flexibility in thinking is key to personal growth and resilience.
      7. Use Beliefs Constructively: When beliefs are confirmed to be in line with reality, use them constructively to guide decisions and actions that align with your goals and values.
      8. Encourage Growth: Recognize that even accurate beliefs can evolve. Encourage growth by staying curious and open to learning more about yourself and the world around you.
      9. Promote Well-being: Ensure that your beliefs contribute to your overall well-being. Beliefs that are accurate but lead to negative emotions may need to be reframed to support a healthier mindset.
      10. Share and Discuss: Discuss your beliefs with others to gain different insights and to challenge your own thinking in a constructive way. This can lead to deeper understanding and personal development.
      By continually assessing and refining your beliefs, you can ensure that they serve as a reliable foundation for your thoughts, feelings, and actions, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and authentic life.

    NO ONE wants to sit through a power point presentation online for over an hour. Yes, that's a 'generalization,' but it has merit. This style of teaching may have worked 20yrs ago, but the world and communication styles have changed vastly. As a counselor, you should be aware of the 'social synapse' and the importance of people CONNECTING with one another. As a social communicator, I'm sorry, you receive a FAIL in your attempt to engage and transfer energy and information with students.
