Back when I was a kid, I had the McDonald's Beast Wars toys.
Dude I never had it as a kid but he looks like a complicated transformer

Hasbro keeps remaking or re-releasing the Season 1 designs whenever they celebrate Beast Wars, but I wish they would show the Transmetals some more love. Practically all of those designs kicked ass, even if some of the transformations were terrible (Cheetor). Transmetal IIs were kinda bleh, but the first versions were cool.
Also, for anyone curious about the bat face Primal has, it's leftover from the original gimmick the line had, where every toy had a "mutant" face that was supposed to make the robot modes look more feral, which the cartoon never bothered to implement so the toys stopped including. It's also a leftover from when Optimus was a bat, rather than a gorilla.
Originally double faces were planned for the show, but got cut for budget.
Honestly, I feel yah there, but I also feel like that the toys we got of those forms were the best possible toys, thanks to the show designs being literally the toy designs. There isn't really any way to make them more show-accurate, just 'better toys', and even today, it'd be harder to do the chrome, and the plastic wouldn't feel as good, and there'd be something just janky with them. I'd just like Hasbro to re-release these old toys so i could get the ones I don't have, but want, and don't want to spend 100+ bucks on.

It's too bad you're missing a part of transmetal optimus. He's supposed to have a gun that doubles as a rocket booster on surfer mode. Also you can attach the maces to the back armor like in gorilla mode, raise his arms forward and flip the armor to the front as some kind of cannon mode like the flip out cannons the original leader class primal does.

From what I remember, I think the cannon mode on Transmetal Optimus Primal was the result of the television staff playing with the toy and creating it from the back piece and the maces, rather than it being intentional on the toy's design part. IIRC they had to do that a couple of times in the show to get more gun-like weapons for the characters to use.

@@nilzero5686 Not the cannon mode. There was another handgun he had that in gorilla mode mounted to the back of the surfboard to act as a jet thruster.

I had that first Optimus Primal, but it was a chinese knock-off, lacking many of the details and the weapons. After all these years, it's good to finally see how it was supposed to look.
I always thought the swords were there for a double bladed staff to be honest.
It seems they over complicated it. hehe
It's funny how in the show they had basically the size changed one from another

A lot of the original toys came with a mutant face alternate. Some of them were really annoying too, such as Rhinox, who's mutant face couldn't be hidden like Optimus here. The show didn't use the mutant faces of course.
@@Kanyon85 I remember that Waspinator was depicted with the face which would be his original toy's mutant face (the insect-like face), rather than his toy's robot face (the one with a humanoid-like mouth and a visor)
@@YuusukeOnodera He was one I never owned but yeah that makes sense because of his very insect-like head. I'm glad they made that decision.

I don't really understand why they do with Optimus Primal from season 1. What they give him, what they have done with his robot mode? I really hate this design. Even model from season 2 looks even better!

Fun fact on the original toy you can make the arms spin in robot mode if you move two switches up you can also put his Cyber swords in the same hand

I never grew up with these toys (I was after these toys sold and got introduced to Transformers with the 2007 movie) but seeing the missile firing gimmic on Primal makes me realise how much I kinda miss it.
