- In the early hours of 16th October 2019, at the request of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) our SWT/KWS Canine Unit headed to Tsavo West National Park to help track down two suspected poachers, who had been spotted the evening before. However, before their search could begin they received a disturbing report; not far from where they were gathered, a patrolling aircraft had just sighted a tiny elephant calf standing beside the body of his deceased mother.
This film tells the story of the calf's difficult rescue, after the team eventually found him at the top of a hill in a on an almost impassible lava flow, standing by the side of his mother, a beautiful female elephant who lay dead.

Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

Thank goodness he was rescued and had a loving home to go to. He is just the cutest little boy and a little survivor too. It is so heartwarming to see him being loved by the herd after the Los of his mom. You have the most amazing team. 😊

He is so adorable. Out of all the videos, this is the first time I’ve seen a baby elephant put his legs up like trying to climb out. It’s terrifying what he may have witnessed with his mom. And what happened to their herd? Seems like the younger the calves are, the easier for them to adapt to the orphan herd.
I haven't cried of one of these rescue in a while, but thinking of this poor baby and think about what he had to endure and witness these poachers do is just heartbreaking. It's comforting to know he's with a new family now, and that little trunk hug from one of the older girls towards the end is just beautiful.

Oh dear. This baby was so confused so disoriented. Loosing his momma. Wow my heart bleeds for these ellies. So much love and compassion they have. Yet ppl just can't leave life alone. Very sad. Poaching has to end. Mans greed for Ivory and Rhino horn must stop. All poaching needs much tougher laws. Lets save all of these species, before it's too late.

6:02 of flat out bawling. The trauma that these beautiful animals have to face because of the cruelty of some humans is just heartbreaking. But I'm so thankful there are such caring people like DSWT to allow them to thrive and live long, happy lives.

I wish there we’re more ways we can stop these poaching demons in their tracks . Anyone that has something to do with the ivory trade. And those that purchase ivory. Will have bad karma. What is so immensely sad is that there was a ban on Ivory for such a long duration and then the ban gets lifted!!! The demand got so high in China, n a few others, Its outrageous!! Most countries have banned Ivory for so long,

I have always loved the great work done at Elephant Sanctuarys and I truly value the people saving elephants and caring for them! Today I got an adoption Certificate for Roho as a birthday gift! I really hope that it does a great difference and that Roho and all others are going to grow up in their new family. I would love to volunteer at your sanctuary and also help to protect elephants from being poached.

Oh what a beautiful darling he is. I had heard his name before but had not seen his story! It seems it may be happy being with some of my other treasured orphans so I must look into fostering him. He is so precious and I feel sad about his beautiful mother. Surely she would be happy to at least know he was found and so loved!
CLAUDETTE: yes sweet Roho is one of my💝 beloved fosters now and Feb 2023 I went to the Ithumba unit of SWT and asked to see him and what a love he still is! Benjamin, the head keeper assured me he is a sweetie and though much bigger than before he is a happy healthy young bull in good company!💕🐘💖

No doubt you will have thrown the balance off and they will be overpopulated just like in the 1970's when 15000 had to be culled because they are so destructive. I bet you dont get many locals donating to your cause? No, ? Just naive white tourists who fly home far removed from the dark side of these hostile beasts who want to assuage and bullshit guilt you put on them when they were on vacation here. Keeps those checks Rollin in. Dosent it. I'll be thinking of your organization when we have such an amazing target rich environment!!!
You do a wonderful job, but I can't get over the continued vicious cycle of the whole scenario that's been going on for decades. It seems to me that not enough is being done to prevent these tragedies in the first place. That is where the £££ should be going....
