    I am a sucker for quilted maple anything. A pencil or a stick, it doesn't matter. But in the case of being a guitar, I am in LOVE!!! I think it is the most beautiful wood made by God himself.

    Nice build big dog! They make a plunge base for that little router you use that would make your life a lot better, I think it's around $80 witch is a little pricey but makes routing trussrod cavities a lot faster. I really dig your sliding table saw/jointer that's a badass little space saving unit, perfect for guitar shops!

      The Kitty is a furniture makers dream, it's got a spindle moulder (shaper) on it too, I've been meaning to get a decent follower bit for it so I can use it to route out guitar bodies but haven't got round to it yet.

    Love that process for the switch cover. I’m assuming that’s what it’s for, so the grain will match.

    • @ADFinlayson
      @ADFinlayson  Год назад +5

      yeah, how successful that method is really depends on the angle of the grain running through the body. I think this will be fairly close.

    Wooot!!!
    I was super stoked to see you building another Guitar, haven’t seen any builds or much of any other videos from you since the GGBO-2021. LOVED that DC PRS/Santana style build by the way. That is one of my dream guitars right there.
    I’m still a good few years away from being able to build carve tops myself, I need a garage or a work space and the housing market is total sh*t right now.
    Any who! I can’t wait to see how this one turns out, thanks for sharing your process Bro!!!!

      Thank you Nathan, appreciate the comment. There are a couple of finishing videos I’ve done since the ggbo build and this is the 11th build since that series, just haven’t been filming a lot. If this format goes down well then I’ll do more of them as they’re a bit less efffort than talking to the camera and/or overdubbing. Cheers, Ash

    Great tutorial. Looking forward to the next one. Can I ask where you sourced the maple top from and also the table saw fret slotting blade? Also will you be showing how you route the truss rod access slot in the next one?

    • @ADFinlayson
      @ADFinlayson  Год назад +1

      Good quilt is very difficult to get hold of around here, I bought this billet off a friend who bought it off someone else whom I don't know, I expect it originally came from Kimball. The table saw blade is from RadiusDishUk which I highly recommend - he's a nice guy and sells a lot of good specialist tools, jigs and some tonewood. www.radiusdishuk.com/home/Fret-Slotting-Saw-Blade-0-5mm-p419423619 and yes I'll do truss rod access in the next video. Thanks for watching!

    8:55 I'd recommend a good push block there. My right middle finger wishes I would have used one after an unfortunate accident doing a similar operation...

    • @ADFinlayson
      @ADFinlayson  Год назад +1

      yes this has been on my mind tbh, I like this method for quickly finalising the headstock and I think I need to make a custom push block to fit the job as my usual block doesn't work

    Shouldn't 'Les Paul's be neck‑thru?

    • @ADFinlayson
      @ADFinlayson  Год назад +1

      Les Pauls are traditionally set neck guitars.

    • @PASHKULI
      @PASHKULI Год назад

      @@ADFinlayson I remember reading somewhere that originally it was neck thru, but that might have been about the first Gibson guitars, not the Les Pauls.
      "The Log", a prototype solid-body guitar built by Les Paul in 1941, can be considered as a forerunner of neck-through designed instrument. Les Paul built the model using a recycled 4x4 fence post as the neck and body core, and mounted the disassembled parts of an Epiphone and Gibson archtop guitar onto it.

    If you will allow me to say: you seem to be wasting a lot of material. I make three necks from the same piece of wood.

    • @ADFinlayson
      @ADFinlayson  Год назад +2

      I will get a 1-piece electric neck and 1 scarfed acoustic with heel and end block out of this blank, and that is why I cut it the way I do. Very little material wasted.
