I live 60 miles from the Tx-Mex border out in the sticks. Response time for Border Patrol or the sheriff is at least an hour to two. I and my neighbors MUST cooperate. We help each other. We have to. That covers a lot of different scenarios, from flooding, to livestock getting out, brush fires, someone is sick or injured and needs help around the ranch to tend to things, and yes, the illegals and criminals. Find your clan. Find like-minded people you love and care about and trust. Help them, they will help you. No man is an island is a true statement, especially when things are tough. Right now, we are all in tough times.

Good question, thank you Sharon. Single older women have specific needs that are not the same as everyone else's. Yes, a belt is a better carrier system. For a middle of the night use, slip on shoes and fast-on shirt and trousers. Consider this different than a Minute Man set up. Besides the hips issue, the vest carrier allows you to place the gear where the hands can naturally grasp the items PLUS, with a carrier you can add a level of protection -- pistol or rifle levels vest. Add an extra flashlight (2 is 1), and other gear you select and train with besides mags. A slung pouch frequently makes you have to hunt for items in the pouch. The vest or even the belt are better organized for instant access. Try them and examine their benefits. Set them up and train with then so you can build muscle memory and operate in the dark and on the range. Train, train and then train. Test yourself. Then put the vest where you can slip into it fast. I put it first in the closet with a suit cover over it. I practice slipping it on periodically and smooth is fast. Good topic.

    • @student1979oct
      @student1979oct Год назад

I'm a fan of both belt and vest. 2 rifle and 2 pistol mags on the belt along with IFAK and holster, maybe add a dump pouch. Vest has 6 rifle and 2 pistol mags. Light on both. Multi tool somewhere handy. I reload mostly from my belt and front load from vest to belt as able. I also practice reloads from the vest for that horrible situation where I may not have time to front load the belt.

As a USAF range master and weapons instructor, I replaced many trigger pins, occasional other pins and springs. We put far more rounds down range than most folks can ever think of. Probably 1500 - 1800 rounds per rifle, per month, year round. Disassembled and reassembled daily by people that saw an M16 once a year, unless they had the misfortune to cross a security troop on the flight line. Never replaced a bolt, I think I replaced a gas ring a couple times. I carried an M16 as my duty weapon as security forces for 12 years, fired live a couple times a year, and many blank rounds in combat training, as I was on a deployable team, then 7 more years as an instructor and range master. I carry a pin & spring set.

That's even a step better than a 3 percenter, the vast majority not knowing that they are.

Learn to use the iron sights. The I would get a Vortex red dot if money is an issue. If not, buy the Aim Point.

If you live close to antique stores ask them first. If they don’t have any then ask if they know of anyone who sells it. There are websites you can purchase from but you will have to spend in high volumes with them

For me I gave up all the hollow point ammo. I use ball ammo or preferably nylon jacketed ammo for maximum penetration. Sadly, the nylon jacketed ammo I was using is hard to acquire any longer. It is not Teflon coated...but it is kinda close. And as a bonus, ball ammo is flawless for running.
The reason I like maximum penetration is...I like maximum penetration. I don't want my rounds stopped by bones or skull, I want the rounds to break through the bones and skull and keep going.
It is pretty simple. If I shoot someone in the heart I want it to go through the heart and out their back. If I shoot someone on the side I want it to go through both lungs and hopefully out their other side. If I shoot someone in one ear I want it to come out of the other ear. And nylon jacketed 9mm has tremendous penetration. It greatly beats many standard (non nylon jacketed) pistol calibers I've tested for penetration. Plus my guns don't have long barrels, (2 - 3 inches) so I need all the help I can get with penetration.
Here are a few penetration tests I did years ago with compressed newsprint / Kraft paper to give you an idea how various ammo performs. Depending how compressed the material is, your results will vary.
.22 short 5/8 inch of newsprint (snubnose)
.22 quiet 1 inch of newsprint (snubnose)
.22 HVHP 2-3/8 inches of newsprint (snubnose)
.22 Stinger 3-1/4 inches of newsprint (snubnose)
.380 ball 3-3/8 inches of newsprint (Beretta)
.38 SP Federal ball 4 inches of newsprint (snubnose)
.357 Hornady plastic tip magnum 3-3/4 inches of compressed Kraft paper (snubnose) (a)
.357 Hornady plastic tip magnum 6 inches of compressed Kraft paper (Ruger 4" barrel) (a)
9mm Hornady 6-7/8 inches of newsprint (Beretta)
9mm XXXXX nylon jacket 10 inches of newsprint (Beretta)
.45 Auto ball 4 inches of newsprint (Colt 1911)
    (a) Kraft paper offers about 25% more resistance than newsprint.
