Luchador masks re fine for Pro Wrestling, but for a Tyrant character who takes over an entire city it would have been laughable and not intimidating at all. I know people want comic accuracy, but Bane wearing a Luchador mask would have just been stupid.
am I wrong in believing that Bane’s mask is his respirator?
i figured that he was involved in a accident, but the main villian(not spoiling who for those who haven’t seen the film) found him, near death and built a mask that can artifically circulate air to Bane’s lungs, causing it to be his life support respirator
It is, they said it in the movie
Were your ears not on during the movie? They literally tell you why he has a mask
the clothed batman concept reminds me a lot of daredevil for some reason
I more like Joker from the concepts. Albino pale skin, no clownish makeup, stylish purple suit and spiky hair. That's what I call the Joker
Thumbnail looks like Dennis (Glen Howerton from It's always Sunny), in Joker makeup. And now I keep thinking he'd actually be great in it.
I would have loved the cloth based suit! Especially see him gradually change the suit adding armor or removing equipment as needed
Why did I get so happy seeing the Bourne Trilogy get that love in the intro
*A well directed masterpiece with great actors and screenwriters*
Just want to point out the batmobile is in the shape of a sleeping bat.
8:45 is it just me or does this concept look like a fusion of Jack Nicholson AND the final Heath Ledger
it’s funny, that og concept art of the bar suit reminds me of the newest interpretation, super leather/cloth based, and practical
Engaging start to finish. Well done!
Everyone else: Wow these are cool concepts!
Me: the art for bane looks like my preschool art.
(Edit: it's a joke mate dont take it too seriously^^)
Nah that's pretty good art bro it's not the best but it's still pretty good it's called illustrative art
"concept art"
I doubt you could draw shadows and cloth texture in preschool
@@leo_the_v.3847 I couldn't... until middle school where I placed random shadows everywhere and called it Cloth lol
@@ProbablyUltraman These Bane sketches aren't supposed to look amazing and detailed, they are a quick sketch and then the best ones are chosen to make more detailed pictures. Imagine how long it would take if you had to make an entire painting for every minescule idea you wanted to visualize for future concept art.
Those Bane concepts look terrifying tbh, kinda give me Doctor Blasphemy of Bratpack vibes
9:59.... uuuuuuUHHHHH!!!! I jumped on that scene again!
Didn't know that Mark Simpson(he is known to us comics readers by his pen-name 'Jock') did concept art for Nolan's Batman films. Huh.
Btw. I'm a MASSIVE fan of his comic art. His Batman work with writer Scott Snyder are some of my favourite Batman comics. Like, ever.
Agreed. Black Mirror is one hell of a story
@@axrockatansky1791 - "Batman: The Cursed Wheel" from Jock is my favorite Victor Zsasz story, I'd recommend giving it a shot too.
@@randallflagg3700 Also the self titled Batman Who Laughs series.
Can’t wait
Bane likely has a mohawk hairstyle under the middle portion of his mask, since he can't remove his mask.
Man concepts can be so cool
Definitely getting some inspiration for some future concepts.
8:01 joker is a masterpiece
7:16 looks like arkham asylum joker hair
The production art for these movies is masterful shit
The Joker imaage from the cover picture reminds me of Mason Verger
I love how classy Joker looks in those concept pieces as he's walking away from the hospital. He seems so conserved that it makes him look like a true psycho with no regard for human life, love it.
Almost wish they went with that design but made his skin a bit paler so he appears as white or bleached, still happy with the design we got in the final though. Hell, I dressed up as him for halloween this year!
Amazing video! I didn't know about any of those designs and concepts. Thank you!
At about 8:43 his shirt doesn't say laugh or laughter all over it, it says slaughter slaughter slaughter
Yeah, I didn't notice the S so I thought it said "Laugh"
Good ass video! I’m glad this popped up in my recommendations
That Joker concept art is terrifying. It actually kind of resembles what he looked like at the police parade without his makeup. Pire nightmare fuel
Joker in The Dark Knight I think was the perfect blend of past and future, funny and frightening. The clown masks are based on another movie called The Killing.
Didn't mention the joker mask is from the 60s series
I would've liked to see a concept for Two-Face!
I'm da Joker baby
8:39 I’m pretty sure the shirt actually says SLAUGHTER but the S is covered by his jacket
I think it says both
10:05 this image kinda gives you a feeling of hopeless and I'm not sure how to explain it past that
i feel like BB's concept art for the suit (cowl mainly) influenced pattinson's batman, due the more revealing jaw
9:59 You know damn well that wasn't necessary. 😂
I remember when there was a photo of Talia posted on the internet of her wearing Arabian type clothing standing on top of one of the tumblers for TDKR.
Does anyone else remember seeing that?
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I actually, unironically prefer the unused Joker design. The spiky hair, absence of face paint and more garishly prominent scars. I will say though, adding a little facepaint would have improved it significantly and made it more comic accurate.
I think if the dark knight was not narrowed down to a PG-13 rating, the movie would have been a LOT better, I would've loved to see what the movie's full penitential could have been.
Nolan never intended for it to be Rated R.
Never. Ever.
@@ozdeveraux2082 Yeah, but if it actually lived up to it's potential with like no limits
@@jimothy8720 there were no limits. That’s my point. Nolan never intended for it to be rated R. It’s doing everything it wants to do. It’s not being held back by rating.
@@ozdeveraux2082 You do have a point. Just if some of these concepts came to the movies, I think it would have been a different trilogy, and in my opinion better.
@@jimothy8720 yes but concept art isn’t an indicator of what’s was ever going to happen in the film.
If I told 100 people I need concept art of Batman hanging from a street lamp
We’d likely get 100 very different ideas.
It’s important to note that concept art doesn’t come from the director or the writer typically, it’s just someone doing art based off of a, usually, vague idea.
It is very little indicator of actual content intended for a film

I honestly was extremely disappointed with the reveal of why he had the mask. I thought the entire movie that he was utilizing an aerosol version of his steroid, so they could get rid of the ridiculous tubes.
He was
That’s why when Batman knocked the tubes loose he was frantic and weaker
@@zachwalton3544 No, it was a painkiller. They explicitly said it was a painkiller.
I actually really like Bane's mask in the movie and much prefer it to the luchador mask. I've always found the luchador mask a bit dumb, but there have been some cool designs of it over the years. But when I saw the mask in the movie, I loved it. It's design definitely has very subtle nods to the luchador mask in the areas that show his face and the breathing apparatus. But the mask is just badass and I wish it would actually make it to the comics permanently. I just think his look in TDKR is superior. I know most don't agree with me. And that's fine.
12:46 mask looks awesome!
Even though Tom Hardy crushed it as Bane, I think Dave Batista would have been a better choice aesthetically.
Spot the fuck on sir, he had the height, the muscles and the gravitas. Batista has that talent to be funny as well as intimidating.
Wouldn’t surprise me if the joker concept designs inspired Barry Keoghan’s version of the character.
The mask joker wares in the beginning of dark knight is a nod to a scene in the Adam west 1970’s Batman show. There’s a scene where Cesar Romero’s joker where’s a similar face paint.
I love Bane’s mask in Dark Knight Rises.
12:10 black mask? Unintentional Batman villain reference in a Batman video. Very weird coincidence.
