I just bought a TD17 kvx and I’m in heaven. I’m pretty much like a young kid getting ready for Halloween. It’s my first E kit after playing acoustic kits for decades. I currently play a DW Collectors 5 piece. This Roland kit is so freaking wonderful and mostly I just LOVE how I can literally play anytime without bothering anyone. Thx for your video. It helped me make the purchase 😊
I just watched this vid for the second time in five days. I've finalized my decision three times now. I think I'm done, though. I've spent more time researching v-drums than I have researching my children's names.
@@65Drums You're really good at breaking this stuff down. Concise. I'm grateful for your perspective and how you always remind the viewer these are just your opinions and for us to make our own choice. You're doing a good service out here, brotha! ✌
Thanks Justin! I've been watching your reviews for a year now, waiting, researching, watching videos and I literally had a TD25 in my shopping cart, ready to pull the trigger. Then you dropped the ATV video which mentioned that Roland was getting ready to introduce their new line, so I waited, and as soon as you reviewed the TD17kvx, I bought it. I LOVE IT! Thanks for your great reviews, knowledge and info!
I’ve had my set for 6 weeks just playing and very much enjoying them..I finally got around to the ambiance and EQ settings...and OMG.. IT HAS JUST amazing all over again..anyone having trouble with the Ride bell it can be TURNED UP BIG TIME THRU THE sensitivity settings and EQing the td17 kvx is very sturdy and I definitely recommend this set...I have Appox 36 years experience and played all over USA back in the 90s during the country line dance days craze...Buy this set and you will not be disappointed and go all in get the KVX Modle.....Jim Hammond Louisiana 🇺🇸🇺🇸🥁🥁
I played the Strike in a music shop, and I was so close to buying it, but I've gone for this instead due to the breaking issues. I am fully satisfied with this. I'm what you'd call a hobbyist, I am not going to be releasing records for sale or playing live... and this is absolutely what I want in a kit. Works perfect out of the box, expandable with an extra pad, way better than my 10 year old Yamaha DTXplorer. For years I wanted more pads, the ability to split, the ability to choke, and a more quiet kit (achieved via the mesh heads) I've been enjoying the bluetooth and playing along to songs, and the cymbals feel more easily chokeable than the strike and more sensitive out of the box. Also, no issues with the hats. The strike in the music shop hadn't had the updates or been dialed in though... but like I say, for the kind of person who would prefer it perfect out of the box, the KVX suits me just fine. Shame the strike is so large and so beautiful, it is damn tempting, but man I'd just be terrified of breaking something that expensive. On the plus sides for this as well, no load times at all. It is instant.
Good call, I have an Alesis DM10X and I've gone thru 2 kick pads, had to ditch a floor Tom pad for the snare cuz it wore it completely. My 3 zone ride lost its bell function. I could go on and on
Derek Frampton yeah, on my first drum set ever (alesis nitro) the triggers got all messed up after a month of playing ( when i hit my snare my ride would trigger and so on) and that happened with ALL the triggers
I also have the Alesis DM10X. Hi-hat open/close does not work that well. My snare pad is already broken in half. Had to buy also a snare stand, as it does not stay in position ... I'm very curious to this Roland kit
Just got mine this week. Waiting on the Roland noise eater kick drum pedal and hi hat stand. Can’t wait to get everything set up. Congrats on your set btw!
I recently (2 months ago) purchased the TD-17kvx. I used to work in a music store part time and was always impressed that with all of the “shenanigans” that our demo kits were dealt the Roland TD kits always worked. The pads never broke. That’s why I went with the Roland kit. The sounds in the module are acceptable. I HATE the rack that comes with it. It is ergonomically impossible. I used the parts and built my own rack with 1.5 inch aluminum rigid conduit that I had powder coated. Around $200 total cost. I MIDI the module to my laptop running Steven Slate 5 and now I have everything I want. I’ve played gigs with that setup and everyone comments on how great it sounds. Not “why electronic?” It sounds awesome, and I can fit it in my Volkswagen Golf. Can’t go wrong.
I was committed on getting Alesis strike today when the sales guy told me they had the Roland Td- 17kvx and its 15% of. I didn’t know which is better set but i chose the Roland and boy i couldn’t be happier especially watching your review!!
Really good review! I'm recently stuck with the sound of TD17 cause people have different comments on it. Kind of relief after watching your video , as the sound doesn't feel too bad for me. Love your words!
Vdrum Tips Yeah, I had been wanting to save up for the strike pro for the longest time, but then I saw this for nearly a grand cheaper it has just about as many pads (-1 crash and 1 Tom) and is just a solid drum kit. Saving for this rn!
I kinda agree, but at the same time, I kinda don't. Like, the durability issues is a problem I know. But I would PROBLABLY take the Alesis strike pro over the td-17kvx. Just because I don't like the sizes and sound. (Exept for the snare).
This might be a dumb question but are electronic kits better than Acoustic kits in your opinion? Can anyone weigh in on this. I'm a pretty strong drummer and have been playing for quite a while. I have only played on Acoustic sets my entire life and I know for $1000 I can get a very nice Yamaha acoustic set and then buy cymbals and come out around the same price as this td-17KVX. My biggest concern is durability. With acoustic sets you can just replace heads in 20 minutes for a very inexpensive price and be done. I've never broken anything significant on an Acoustic kit in my life. The one big downside is my neighbors wanting to kill me due to the noise. Apartments are horrible for Acoustic drums. Thanks in advance for anybody's opinion.
Roger U I’m hardly an expert, but personally I would always choose an acoustic kit over electronic kit. The only reason to get an electric kit (for me) is because it allows me to practice as much as I want without having to worry about noise complaints and shit.
I just bought a 17KVX. Loving every moment with it. Great to practice at home before jumping on my acoustic kit. I might even take it out once or twice for some sets too! This video really helped sway my decision. Thank you very much!
I have 36 years drumming experience...I purchased my td17 I’ve 6 weeks ago and I really impressed..very stable very good sounds and I. Would Recommend the kvx ....Jim. Hammond Louisiana..👍👍👏👏✌️🇺🇸
Just pulled the trigger on a TD17KVX. At 5:50 your review made it seem like they include the hi-hat stand, which they do not. It also doesn't include a kick pedal. So for someone like me who wanted to upgrade from an 8 year old Alesis that's been colecting dust and get back into the game I had to spent an additional $140 on a DW 7500 and $100 on a DW 2000 kick drum pedal. Add in sticks and a Gibralter Softy throne and this complete drum set comes in at $2000. Still an amazing price point and a great drumset for someone with previous drumming experience that wants to get back into it the right way.
Most drumsets at this price have a hihat mounted to the drumrack. That's why I said this version had the hihat mounted to a actual stand. I would talking about the type of pad, not the hardware. Roland never includes a kick pedal, or hihat stand in any of their drumsets unfortunately :/
I’ve been waiting for this review thank you justin for the video I also got a chance to play the. Td17 today and I’ve got to say the pads are great cymbals are very durable and that kick pad feels great I honestly think they put some kind of memory foam in there and your right justin doesn’t move so I’m definitely sold on it, it’s my next buy.
Great video! Your illustration highlighted areas of concern in contrast to other makes and models. Mine is on back order with a expected delivery date as of 11/7/18. Thank you for being a real Pro. You know your stuff dude!!!
I just got a chance to sit down and play this drum set at my local Sam Ash. I don't know how I missed this drum set, but maybe I just overlooked it, but I played it and WOW!!!! I was so impressed with the drum sounds. The first set I played blew me away; the snare sound, the TOMS!!!, and the cymbals all hit the right balance (IMHO). Now, I've been pretty peeved at Roland over the years, for what I felt were only incremental improvements of their sounds, and as you states, that's very subjective, but I'd just like to say, I applaud Roland for the TD17 endeavor as far as the sounds included on the module; well done Roland. Also, I want to thank all of Roland's competitors...because without you, it might have been another 10 years before Roland started making me happy again. LOL!
I've had this for four months. I will say mine is a Franken drum kit with roland td 3 plus extra and extra cymbal...must say great for apartment. Roland quality. My kit is 11 pieces with zoning. Fun stuff with two kick drums that I have td 3 kick as a percussion instrument.
Big help...I’m saving now only 250 dollars short...God Willing I will be ordering my set next 10 days ..thank you for all you do.....Jim Hammond Louisiana 🇺🇸
The TD 17KVX is a solid kit at a price point I can accept. I had a used Alesis kit for a month and the cymbals would cut out. It wasn't a good experience for me as I am new to edrums, played acoustic for years. After I returned the Alesis DM10 Mesh kit, I had no idea what new kit I wanted to buy. The Roland models that seemed attractive to me were 2,000 bucks or more and I want to spend around 1,000 to 2,000. At 1,600 dollars for the TD 17KVX, its a solid kit at a price point I can certainly accept. Bluetooth capability and that 12 inch snare is quite impressive. I just wish Roland would compete with Alesis and make larger toms but maybe that will happen in a year or two. I am thinking I will be getting this model. I appreciate this channel, it has helped me understand edrums since I have never shown any interest for them in the past. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your top review! Went to our local drum shop, had a bash on a few kits and ordered the KVX. Can't wait to unbox it :) Keep up the great work!
I've yet to hear a snare rimshot. For example, what does the Maple SR sound like when assigned to the rim? Can you do this? I don't know why nobody is demonstrating this. I still use rimshot sounds on my TD-9 and am thinking of upgrading to this kit but I'd like to see the snare rimshot. I tried messing around with it today at GC but the "SR" didn't sound right.
i'll be interning in Roland soon, so i'm checking your videos to find pros and cons for Roland products and all infos of their competitors, thanks Justin!
Just bought one, awaiting arrival in the next few days. From reviews I've seen and read I had to put the roland on top of the alesis. Let's hope the research goes well. Great videos btw, really insightful.
Your review put me over the top to get the Roland 17KVX. I have had it now about 10 months and it's incredible. I haven't even scratched the surface of all the sound adjustments. Tweaked the acoustic sound a little and have been happy since. I am looking at potentially adding another cymbal with the extra input.
I appreciate all of your insight and what you’re putting out there for dummies like me! I just bought the TD17-KVX-S and I love it. The bass drum is perfectly fine, so far it is not rocking back and forth, seems solid. I am a newbie to electronic drums and can’t wait to keep learning. Thanks again for what you do!! 👍🏻.
What a Great Kit! 👍 Hey Justin, that fill you're playing at 6:46 sounds like a beat from the band Triumph the song is "Allied Forces" from the Allied Forces Album.
I've had the td-17kvx for about 3-4 years. Other than one crash cymbal needing replacing, it's been great. Replaced the cy-12c with the newer cy-12c-t. $200. Just updated the module with v2 and the customability is crazy detailed.
Love this kit. Had a chance to sample it at my local music store and it sounded great and had a really great feel. I will be buying this kit (TD17-KVX) as my first intro into electronic drums.
Great review and comparison. I like the upgrades a lot, and at a very similar price to the TD11 series, it’s kind of a no brainer. Definitely worth the investment. UPDATE: KVX set ordered!
I bought TD-17 KVX Yesterday! It is a great kit! And decent price too! I recommend you guys to buy this kit! If you have enough money to get TD - 50 KV, then go for it ) If not, then TD -17 KVX is the best option!
I bought the 17KVXV for our church band. Works great. I played the Alesis floor model. It was in bad shape.. Still working on the right tom sounds with the Roland.
Hey Justin; great review, thank you for showing how the hi hat sounds, gradually opening and closing. Haven't seen that demonstrated yet until now on the td17. Also I love the fact that their layering now, ( that used to be called velocity switching ), but what got my attention about Roland a few years back was that positional sensing on the snare drum, which sounded very musical compared to most electronic drums, so I guess there's always a trade-off. And I think all the cymbals need bells, Which would make it a better midi controller I think. One other thing about the sound of Roland drums is that there isn't enough pitch bend from velocity. But overall better bang for buck, and that we can almost afford them now. These are my humble thoughts. Thanks for asking
I own this drum set and really like it. This review is VERY accurate. Overall, I would buy this again. I find the hi hat and ride to not be as sensitive as I would like. Additionally, I have tried splitting off a rim trigger to use for an additional cymbal and/or trigger pad as mentioned in this video and have not had any success. As a workaround for both of these issues, when I play live, I use an acoustic hi hat and ride to free up triggers for other things. It works well and people are surprised how well it all blends. Just an FYI to anyone thinking of buying this or any e drums.
Thanks for putting the comparison between the 3. Wasn't expecting this in this video so maybe add it to the title for more views :) I'm like you wanted reliable equipment and maybe I can get the sounds of the Strike Pro sampled from someone in the future or make my own then I'm just missing that nice drum presence only that you get with the strike but for my case, I prefer stability overall and this is like $1000 cheaper too for me in Canada which is a big difference in price.
I bought the TD-17 KVX set as soon as it was available, and I absolutely love it. This is my 4th set of Roland TD's, my last being a TD-30-KV set which I ended up selling, in favor of reverting to my high ended acoustic set to both practice and play out. The new HH is excellent! And Roland has finally addresses the "clapping cupped hands" noise (ALLELUIA!) I used to get with my VH-13 on my previous set. The down sides? 1) I've had to increase a lot of the instrument volumes. 2) It has a limited number of inputs, but then again, that's something I have factored in when I bought it. 3) It's far more limited in editing capabilities than my TD-30 - however you can still do a lot with what you have. Yet the capabilities for editing are TD-50 based, and you can tell it. 4) There are no quality custom kits available yet to load into the upper 50 memory slots, such as you would purchase from outfits like "V-Expression" (VEX Kits). BOTTOM LINE: It's a nice quality and seems to fill that much coveted "Value/Price Point" quite nicely. I LOVE THEM!
I bought the KVX17 and managed to create a great snare sound using sampling mixing a piccolo and a imported Slingerland, you have to fiddle around for a rim shot (Buddy Rich style) but you can get close, the blue tooth recording facility is great. I have the kit running through a 150 w combo with EQ and reverb plus multi headphone amp love them!
Who was the genius that decided the headphone jack on the 17 module should be on the top right instead of the bottom left? 9:57 Look at the cable moving all around on your right side while you're playing. That would drive me crazy. If it was on the bottom, it would be out of the way. Also, the screen is kinda small for the amount of data you're looking at. You have to lean in & kill your back to make changes. I love the hihat& cymbals on the 17 KVX. It is definitely worth the extra money. The playing experience is so much better. I love playing eighth notes with left foot while playing a typical groove. The sound & feel of the hihat is great. It IS the star of the show.
Bought this today.... and I'm so happy with it ! Obvioulsy if you can afford the KX one, I do agree that the price difference is worth it (maybe wait a bit more to be able to get the KX). So I only play last 4 hours (non stop, yes I love that kit already). The hi-hat is really cool, snare is great too. Sound module I haven't explored it (that) much, but sound is good, and it got bluetooth, and good settings options for the pads The only downside is the ride bell I do agree. Not THAT satisfying but still pretty much ok. According to me, probably the best kit for it's price ! Never thought I could get that for less than 1700$
Nice work, Love the price point!! I agree Roland has better Hi-Hat control.... and reliablility I have the CY13R I purchased on used on ebay 2 years ago it's still working great, the bell does take a little harder hit to make trigger.
5:20 gesus... the way the pad bounces.... that is going to throw your timing off by at least 1 ms if it happens to bounce low or high right at the time you want to hit it. That looks flimsy to me.
I was going to go for the KV but I think I’ve been convinced to go for the KVX! I’ve seen a lot of reviews where people say the moving hi hat is a game changer and the extra cymbal is a bonus for me as well! Honestly, if Alesis didn’t have durability issues, I’d buy one of their mesh kits because they look absolutely amazing. There’s a song I love to play on my Alesis DM6, but it sounds absolutely awful because of all the issues, and now the kick drum wires have come loose yet again 😂 I can’t wait to play it on a better kit!
i think i might have to get the td 17 kvx.. you have convinced me with the demonstrations.. AND the durability reputation kinda is hook line and sinker
I just got this kit this past week. Really great. I upgraded from a Yamaha DTX version 2 from 2000. Well worth it. I also got a great bundled price from Kraft Music. And no I don't work for them. They include a hi-hat, drum kick, and throne for the price of the kit itself. Great for me as I didn't have the hi-hat.
Also thanks Justin I watched all your videos on comparisons for kits and glad I didn't waste money on an Alesis. Was going for the TD25KVX but like you was not impressed with the limited amount of kits. I knew Roland was probably going to come out with something new as the TD25 was now 3 years old. Glad I waited as I could buy this new for less than getting the TD25 used.
Im getting one, i got to say ive watched at least 15 of your drum videos. ive decided on the TD17KVX. it would be a sell out if it came with stand and kick pedal.. thanks for your show and tell justin!!!!!
Two years on . . . . as anybody who is looking in late 2021 will know, the price for this is no longer $1600 but now $1949. I'd need to buy a HH stand, the bass pedal and throne, probably a headphone set, to get this to playable condition. That brings the price closer to $2,500 to $3k with tax, depending on what deal(s) I could bet on the stand/pedal/throne/etc. Justin, in 2021, is this still a recommended buy for you, or have two years made a difference in terms of newer product that might be a better buy these days, given the latest/higher pricing for the Roland kit? I'm still close to getting the 17KVX because I just haven't found anything else, even at the higher 2021 price, that gets me to solid quality and decent performance, but welcome your or others' thoughts on whether this kit is still a recommended buy. . . . .
Thanks for the info, i was honestly about to buy the strike pro. After a lot of thinking i just purchased the roland tdkvx. Have not got it yet but im sure i will like it. Thanks
I’m definitely grabbing this kit in a couple weeks, I’m not mad at the sounds but tbh I’m mostly going to use it for recording and use it to trigger sounds from Superior Drummer and maybe a little lite jamming with a couple of friends, great video and great playing btw.
Well, I have had my TD-17KVX for a week now and this kit has some great sounds. It was shipped earlier than expected ! I have only begun to play with the settings and love the fact that I can customize every pad and cymbal. This is my first set of e drums and I am very happy with them. The only issue I have is that I am a left handed player and you can not set the module up outside of the hi hat stand like you see in photos for right handed players. The problem is that the track for the clamp on the bottom of the module is on the " wrong " side. I can only mount it outside the hi hat if I turn the module upside down ! Roland should have thought of this and put a track on each side. I have to mount the module above the crossbar between the hi hat and the first tom. I am not comfortable with it there because of the chance of a drum stick slipping from my hand and hitting it. I know it is unlikely but the potential exists. I am going to try and find a short cymbal stand to mount it on. I wrote Roland about this and they sent me instructions for setting up the rack left handed !! On top of that , it was for a completely different rack. Did they even read my email ??? Totally useless. I wrote them back yesterday and am waiting for another reply. All in all I am very happy with this kit and can't wait to do some recording with them.
Bill Nunya - You CAN set it up lefty . It's just that if you want the module outside of your hi hat like you see in right handed set up stock photos , you can't do it. The module has to go above the crossbar between the snare and first tom or on a separate stand. Roland never responded to my second email. My first one was perfectly clear and some idiot sent me instructions on how to set the kit up left handed ! I know how to set it up left handed !! On top of that the instructions were for a completely different rack than the one the kit comes with. Roland sells a stand for the module but it is $200 !! No surprise there. For now , I am using it the way I set it up originally until I can put it on a stand for $100 or less. Buy this kit !!! Yes it is expensive but it is a lot of fun to play and it sounds awesome. I just bought a Roland PM-100 amp for it and this kit rocks . The sound from the amp is crystal clear with zero noise or distortion and built like a tank. Worth $300. Go for it !!
We had this one listed as the one to buy some years ago but a Yamaha Motif xf came up so we bought that. This is still on the list and is the next purchase.
Only became aware of the TD17 today. I've had a TD6 for about 14 years. I've looked at every new kit Roland have released for several years now, but any that were in my price range didn't offer the hardware upgrade I was after, and the kits with the hardware I lusted after were just too expensive for me to justify as just a hobbyist player, hence I just stopped looking. It seems with the TD17, I finally have the option of hardware that represents a serious upgrade from the PD8/80 and CY8/5 that I'm used to, but for a price that I can live with. That the TD17 module has around a third of the instrument sounds the TD6 has is initially a bit off putting, but then the sounds on the 17 are much more customisable. Plus, of course, there is the option of importing more samples (though no review I've seen yet gives much info on that feature). Positional sensing on the snare would be nice. Bizarrely, the hot-spotting on the PD80 through the TD6 does give an impression of positional sensing which I use a lot. However, the PDX12 is probably much more sensitive and the VH10 is going to be SO much more expressive, as are the other cymbal pads, I reckon I'd be ok. I think I'll be calling in at my local store to check out the TD17 for myself tomorrow. Great review (and I've watched several this evening) so thanks for that.
Thank you for this deep dive. I have been researching which electronic kit to buy and I believe this kit offers the most value for what I am looking for right now. It was a toss up between this, the Alesis Command mesh and Surge mesh and a Yamaha kit. This looks like the best option for me. Thank you, the information you provided helped me make the final chooice.
I've been watching your various videos as I decide what direction I want to go in upgrading / replacing my old electronic drums. (I say "old", but they are all new items that I bought years ago on closeout, but wound up putting in storage and haven't used yet: Roland TD-3 brain, PDX-8 pad, PD-9 pad, KD-8 pad, 4 x Pintech Concertcast pads, Zildjian Gen 16 version 1 set with pickups and module (13", 14", 18"), added 16" crash, 4 newer pickups, and just received 20" BB ride). I'm currently trying to find time to finish setting it up while still on vacation (if my wife will ever stop assigning Honey-dos.) :-) . I've thought about replacing the TM-3 with the TD-17 brain, and then later changing out the pads or adding triggers to one of my acoustic sets. Too bad Roland doesn't have an option that you can buy one of their kits without the drum module. For grins, I added up what all the drum and cymbal pads would cost new if I bought them separately from a store like Sweetwater. Not including mounts and cables (except for the PDX-8 pads since you can buy them together), it will cost me $1000 more to buy everything separate than to buy the whole kit as a unit! So my first step is to set up and try out what I already have, then decide what direction to go also based on what comes out in the upcoming 2020 NAMM show.
You convinced me to buy the Roland TD-17KVX. I have an Alesis Q8 keyboard from the 90s which is built like a tank. I still use it as a midi controller as i love the key action. To hear that Alesis cant hold up to wear and tear is disappointing. So ill go with whats proven durable.
I feel this is a drumkit for experienced/ begginers drummers that can't make a lot of noise because of the neighbors, or you are living in an apartment and can't bring your acoustic kit, or if you just have the time to practice at night and you don't wanna bother anybody. I don't really love the sound, but it is not that bad. Has great updates like the bluetooth connection. I wanted to buy it, but I'm not totally convinced if it is worth.
When I first saw these kits announced my first thought was "I should replace my snare and floor Tom on my td4 with those 12" pads and use my current 8" mesh snare pad as the hightom" but then I started looking at the vh10 too and that's pretty tempting, and then the 3 zone ride... By the time I buy all of those I'd be only like £100-200 away from a brand new kit, and you've just sold me on it. I use kontact over midi for sounds so the module itself isn't super important to me, but that kind of upgrade for only a little more than I'd be spending anyway, seems silly not to.
Id say it absolutely depends on what you want/need in a drum set. I got a crazy deal on a brand new (really lightly used) strike so for me it wasn't even a question. Had enough money left over to buy 2 extra cymbals and a brand new nitro for my daughter with an extra 200 bucks still in my pocket! Haha. The td 17 sure looks sweet but the sounds kill it for me.. Well that and 8 inch toms.
Justin, I have never seen you discuss how setup friendly these kits are in terms of positioning the pads and pedals. In every video I have seen about the new TD17 the player, pads and pedals seem to be in some "skewed" uncomfortable looking position in relation to each other. The 25s rack and holders design, compared to the 17's for instance, seems to have more space and flexibility as regards this issue, if it is one. If you have a choice, no matter how much money you might save buying one kit instead of another, it might not be well spent, IMHO, if you cannot get naturally comfortable behind it. And too, positioning flexibility also matters if you are trying to "mimic" (as best you can) your acoustic setup. Maybe something you could include in your reviews or talk about separately sometime. Great series on the 17s. Thanks for all the work.
That being said I understand why Justin would choose this kit. All I do with mine is write and record music at home. Other band members record their parts at home and we email tracks back and forth. Justin seems to play out more. It's been 15 years since I have and have no interest in it anymore. Also from what I've seen Justin is a fairly heavy hitter sometimes. If I had a td-30 parked at home I'd choose something like this to lug around from gig to gig also.
So the alesis and the roland kit were at my local music shop. And at that point i didnt knew about the alesis issues. But there, it was damn nearly destroyed. Nothing responded properly so i really liked the roland kit. Only thing is i want a third tom but i guess i am just going tonexpand my tdx17. That alesis test kit eally put me of
I would have to say I agree the worse problem with the alesis strike pro drum set is the hi hat and that is the biggest problem I am having choosing a kit right for me I like the td 17, but it doesn't have enough plug-ins. My mirror set would be a 7 piece kit with 8 cymbals and that is with a double pedal. I would love to find a electronic kit that I could build that size that would sound great for a great price.
Pretty soon we will be like "Hey have you seen the Roland TD97KVXHWXYZBB8123?
lol and also true
You forgot the "-s" version.
BB8 you say star wars will copy right you soon
Ah the Roland TD97KVXHWXYZBB8123 is outdated, its now the Roland TD97KVXHWXYZBB81234
I just bought a TD17 kvx and I’m in heaven. I’m pretty much like a young kid getting ready for Halloween. It’s my first E kit after playing acoustic kits for decades. I know the feeling Joe, it's a tough decision

haha, know the feeling
Hey Joe, what kit did you end up going with and how do you feel now that you've owned the kit for sometime?
I'm in this same boat at the moment. Leaning towards this kit.
I think this is a better value. Td25 sounds good but limited module options. If I was buying new the KVX would be it.
Great video as always, I love the fact that you have no fear of saying your opinion even "against" the brands. Great intellectual honesty.
Thanks so much man!
For years I wanted more pads, the ability to split, the ability to choke, and a more quiet kit (achieved via the mesh heads)
I've been enjoying the bluetooth and playing along to songs, and the cymbals feel more easily chokeable than the strike and more sensitive out of the box.
I could go on and on
I have the kvx and added another cy12. Can I add another Tom pad? Thanks
Derek Frampton yeah, on my first drum set ever (alesis nitro) the triggers got all messed up after a month of playing ( when i hit my snare my ride would trigger and so on) and that happened with ALL the triggers
If I was buying new this would be it. Best value in Rolands lineup.
I also have the Alesis DM10X. Hi-hat open/close does not work that well. My snare pad is already broken in half. Had to buy also a snare stand, as it does not stay in position ... I'm very curious to this Roland kit
Just bought my kit from Kraft Music. You are an inspiration, and I am looking forward to setting up this week!
I really appreciate all the detail in your demo presentations...especially when it comes to listing the shortcomings. Cheers!
Great review and I totally agree with the comparison against the Strike Pro. The TD-17KVX is the better choice.
@@stephenhughes5156 That's where I'm leaning too, but you're right. Acoustic sets really restrict my practice time.
I just bought a 17KVX. Loving every moment with it. Great to practice at home before jumping on my acoustic kit. I might even take it out once or twice for some sets too! This video really helped sway my decision. Thank you very much!
Your channel is much appreciated. It’s also very underrated. Thanks for the work you do man.
Thanks Deven I really appreciate it!
Thank you for an unbiased and fair review, trying to make a decision and on brand and model and this was extremely helpful.
Good luck in your decision Eric! I know it's hard to choose when all that money is on the line
Roland never includes a kick pedal, or hihat stand in any of their drumsets unfortunately :/
another top review, Justin :)
Thanks John!
you're welcome, Justin :)
This is the best thing Roland can do right now. Ordered mine yesterday.
Dizzy Krissi what do oi think about it. I wanna get one too
I’ve been waiting for this review thank you justin for the video I also got a chance to play the.
Thanks man!
Your review was one big factor for me purchasing The Roland te-17 kvx...Thank you for all you do....Jim..Hammond Louisiana..👍👍👍🙏🙏🇺🇸
Thanks Jim!
Best review I've seen so far. Thanks for the help!
Glad to help! :)
@65 Drums - I really enjoy your electronic drum reivews, tips and performance videos. You're the man when it comes to electronic drums---thanks!
Always comprehensive and well explained. Thanks Justin. Have not owned a Roland since the TD-9. Considering this one now.
Just bought 1 today. Absolutely Awesome.
Thanks for your top review! Went to our local drum shop, had a bash on a few kits and ordered the KVX. Can't wait to unbox it :) Keep up the great work!
Hope you like it!
Just ordered this for our studio. Thanks for the honest reviews Justin
Great Video Justin, Just wanted to say thanks, cuz this type of videos are really helpful for us.
really looking forward to the Td25kvx vid 😉
Just bought one, awaiting arrival in the next few days. From reviews I've seen and read I had to put the roland on top of the alesis. Let's hope the research goes well. Great videos btw, really insightful.
How was it? Thinking of buying this.
Another great video Justin! And I'm in love for this new Roland TD-17KVX! :D
Dude, your videos are outstanding.
Thank you so much Bill!
Question , have you bought a double kick pedal and if so how is it
When comparing, and giving your opinion / recommendations, always stand by your convictions...always....Thx for the vid
Question , have you bought a double kick pedal and if so how is it
What a Great Kit! 👍
Hey Justin, that fill you're playing at 6:46 sounds like a beat from the band Triumph the song is "Allied Forces" from the Allied Forces Album.
Just order one today. Thanks for the review. I'll let you know what I think. I'm pretty sure I'll love it!
I bought the 17KVXV for our church band. Works great. I played the Alesis floor model. It was in bad shape.. Still working on the right tom sounds with the Roland.
This video convinced me. I was on the fence with both kits but will be buying the td-17+an xtra cymbal for a china. Thanx! Excellent job.
Just bought the KVX today, can't wait to play it, nice vid!
Wasn't expecting this in this video so maybe add it to the title for more views :)
I'm like you wanted reliable equipment and maybe I can get the sounds of the Strike Pro sampled from someone in the future or make my own then I'm just missing that nice drum presence only that you get with the strike but for my case, I prefer stability overall and this is like $1000 cheaper too for me in Canada which is a big difference in price.
Question , have you bought a double kick pedal and if so how is it
I bought the KVX17 and managed to create a great snare sound using sampling mixing a piccolo and a imported Slingerland, you have to fiddle around for a rim shot (Buddy Rich style) but you can get close, the blue tooth recording facility is great.
Thanks for the great review. I just ordered it from Kraft, which throws in a throne, hi-hat stand, kick pedal and sticks for free.
I subbed, liked and am leaving a comment. youre doing a great job and deserve much more than that. thank you sir!
Very Good Video Justin! Congrat`s
Thanks! I've been a subscriber of your channel for awhile :)
Ow, thank you, it's a great pleasure for me to have you subscribed to my little channel! Big Hug
Sound module I haven't explored it (that) much, but sound is good, and it got bluetooth, and good settings options for the pads
The only downside is the ride bell I do agree.
Come on admit it, you just love the TD25 😆 as it’s the first thing that pops into your head 😉 Super in depth analysis as usual Justin 👍 Take care
5:20 gesus... the way the pad bounces.... that is going to throw your timing off by at least 1 ms if it happens to bounce low or high right at the time you want to hit it. That looks flimsy to me.
Actually not so much. I tried this kit out myself in a music store and the snare felt great. It was probably my main attraction to the kit.
it really doesnt move like that for some reason - also, it does move slightly but it doesnt affect your playing at all
I sold a friend my td17kvx two years ago.
I'm buying it back this month.
These run around 2k now without hardware.
Great video! You convinced me to send my td25k back that I bought two weeks a go and get the td17 kvx ;)
Definitely worth buying! Mine is arriving today.
i think i might have to get the td 17 kvx.. you have convinced me with the demonstrations..
I'm still close to getting the 17KVX because I just haven't found anything else, even at the higher 2021 price, that gets me to solid quality and decent performance, but welcome your or others' thoughts on whether this kit is still a recommended buy. . . . .
It's now $2099. Yikes.
Seems like a great kit I haft to
Play it soon great review
All in all I am very happy with this kit and can't wait to do some recording with them.
thetimahawk1 any updates? Im also a lefty and am shy about spending the money if i cant set it up lefty
I always play on this at my local guitar centre lmaaao it's amazing. Might buy it eventually
We had this one listed as the one to buy some years ago but a Yamaha Motif xf came up so we bought that. This is still on the list and is the next purchase.
Hahahah.....you said "its chokable, and 12 inches"
Lmao
Sick......
Keith W. *(Sic)
Ah-haha
I love things that are 12 inches😄
12:33 "TD-17KV"
you mean TD-25KV?
Thank you a lot once again, well detailed !!!
Thanks Mickey!
Finally a Roland drum kit that is a good bang for your buck. This over the td25 any day.
Fame DD-ONE Simon Phillips Edition. What the fun is this.
This version is 2199$ in Canada way to much I,ll stick with my TD 11 for now.great video love your channel Justin .
Derek Frampton Yes it sucks.
@Derek Frampton Derek saving up. And getting this soon.Bored of td11 lol
another great review!
Very good video a big help for a drummers like me who’s looking for excellent and quality sound ..Cheers!!!
Couldn’t ask for a better commentary... Cheers
Thanks Sim!
This machine has the TD 50 sounds in the module if you have the right speaker you get 50 quality......thats crazy man.
If I had a td-30 parked at home I'd choose something like this to lug around from gig to gig also.
u can get a vh-10 high hat ($300) vea rebate for the kv version thou roland rebate till end of Jan 2019 right now !! I just ordered one up
yep a no brainer...then swap out the original HH stuff for a better ride or another tom.
Why not compare it with Yamaha as well? Like DTX582K
Yahmaha has very amazing products for the price, guitars, boat motors, motor cycles, pianos, drums, like I said for price Yamaha cant be beat.
@@jameshoover6349 I have changed to Roland since then never looked back. But the price of Roland world is indeed salty.
