    Bard got Healer LB3 because Yoshi-P had a mind to add a Support Role into the game, and Bard would have been the first Job to fill that role. Unfortunately by the time they had enough resources to consider adding a 4th role into the game, there were too many dungeons that would have needed complete overhauls. So the entire concept was scrapped and Phys Ranged's role as a semi-support oriented DPS was formalized. This also ties into their original plans for the split Job system like Scholar and Summoner, where Archers could take somehting like Sniper or Ranger to have a "true dps archer class".

      @@specstreTV Ancient Knowledge from one of the early 2.X LFtPL. They're fun to read and see just how much the design philosophy of the game has changed. Way back when. Players were actually meant to use Classes for 4-man content (wider variety of actions to cover weaknesses) and Jobs for 8-man content (specialized focus and stronger actions) that's why the cross class system was the way it was.
      Dragoon was also meant to be some kind of pseudo off-off tank. Which is why Garuda EX was designed like that. Dragoon was meant to take Suparna or Chirada while Warrior grabbed the other. Also why Dragoon had Javeline Toss, Leg Sweep, and some parry move that slowed enemies.

      I appreciate this knowledge! A tad bit of a shame to learn actually. I've always held out hope that FFXIV would add a support role but if they were concerned about having to overhaul content back then, imagine the scope of that project now lmao.
      I truly feel like a support role would give them an opportunity to truly flesh out the "support" type DPS instead of this weird nuanced area they sit in now (minus DNC).

    Accuracy is still kind of in the game. It's not a stat anymore, it's basically a function of level.
    If you still have jobs that are a ways below max level, try finding a monster that's say 6-7 levels above you on a field map (like the final EW map if you have jobs below about level 84). You'll see a few of your attacks miss- on certain jobs this can break combos and be quite annoying.
    But because you'll only miss if you're fighting things that are a higher level than you, most players would only see this if they go looking or use daily hunting logs to level jobs. Before EW it could only happen to physical jobs- spell casters would always hit, but they actually changed that in 6.0 so now even spells can miss.

    • @zephyros256
      @zephyros256 Год назад +8

      It also rears its head in the Blind status effect, which lowers your accuracy resulting in missed attacks.

  • @khianidude
    @khianidude Год назад +26

    Accuracy is still a major mechanic in Deep Dungeons. Every one will understand why people hated it when you go into Eureka Orthos and get a Blind enchantment that lowers your accuracy and you miss 25% of the time or dont have Arms Length against a mob that casts Haste (and die in inside when their MCH misses their reassembled attack)

    • @Norbert_Sattler
      @Norbert_Sattler Год назад +7

      It's also used when there are differences in level between the attacker and the target. If you go up against mobs higher in level than you, then you get consecutive more chance to miss the bigger the difference is and the same goes for enemies who will miss more and more often the lower their level is compared to the player.

    • @phdskyla5026

    Ah yes, Bard. Breaking the game since 1.0 and proud of it. The mix of heals and damage was so in demand for 1.x that if you weren't a bard you got very politely laughed out of the group. And because they had ammunition, the entire economy of 1.x was built around them. Hence the removal of an entire digit from gil carried over from 1.x to ARR.
    Fitting that they went from the absolute kings of the meta to "yea they exist" and have never reached those lofty heights since.

    Bard's "healer" LB was a hold over from 1.0 where it functioned as a back up healer in parties/because of cross class skills and I could be wrong on this part but I believe 1.0 had limit breaks too? so it was basically a 1.0 hold over.
    Technically so was stat allocation as that first started in 1.0 as well.

    • @Nazuiko

      Well prior to MCH, with Bard as the ONLY phys ranged, it makes sense. Bard is primarily a support job that also has personal, high APM DPS.
      But without MCH in the mix, it means that bard is purely a support role. You have tanks and healers, and melees and mages. And then Bard, as back up. Which IS what Bard does in FF anyway, so it works.
      Song of Hope would be a better name for it than Pulse of Life, but that wouldve meant not literally copypasting

  • @hennyzhi2261
    @hennyzhi2261 Год назад

    The multi-class stuff and stat allocation just really emphasizes how big of a cultural impact D&D had even up to 2017. It wasn't the only game that laid the template other RPGs would use, you have things like Wizardry and Ultima, but it was without a doubt at the forefront of what people thought about when designing those games. And I think while FF14 is stepping away from that is mostly good I do hope they eventually re-discover the good aspects of those design decisions. D&D I think at the core of it's design philosophy is you can make anything work when you set your mind to it. Its even common in traditional play to roll for your stats rather than point buy. The negative side when applied to an MMO is that the meta does form organically and you'll find increasing amounts of gated interactions where it's less about the content of your social skills/character as a person... and more about whether you did the laundry list of busy work to even begin to start the content you want to engage with. They solved that by making sure everyone has the same base kit in terms of skills at the cost of freedom of expression. But maybe a way to re-visit that D&D philosophy in a non-toxic way is to have battle traits from a pool of options you get to choose automatically every 24 hours ( a full-rest) based on your choice of deity. They would have to be carefully balanced so every god has something to give that is equally worthwhile without being gamebreaking to the point everyone is stacking under the same one... But just having more little things to make each person feel like a real person and not just WoL #2495 in the future would make me like the game more.

    • @specstreTV
      @specstreTV  Год назад +1

      really good point on the D&D lineage, and yes -- ultimately, I just wish we were allowed to tweak our builds *at all*, as modern FFXIV, while fun, is very... static in design. like you said, every WoL is copy-pasted with the same abilities as any other, which is fine, but sometimes it's fun to make mistakes and experiment a bit, even if there is an eventual "meta" pick all the same.

      @hennyzhi2261 Год назад

      @@specstreTV Yes, someday we will get our full party of whitemages and have a conspicuously buff one to tank for us. But on a more serious note I'm down for more experimentation in FF14 and hopefully multiple party builds that are equally viable.

    Honest to god with people (including myself) not really being stoked on how homogenized the jobs are now, all the stat things that we lost are kind of a bummer. Like on one hand i get it, then entire game is on rails and there is basically no reason to do any open world content anymore (battle wise) and of course people will get frustrated if they have to run dungeons and raids with people being sub par, so SE had to fix that. But really, they just made a fix to a problem that they themselves created. Almost everything is tied to dailies and running content that isn't even at your max level.
    And I started back in Stormblood when elemental damage was still a thing. I just remember them getting rid of it and being like "wtf". Then there was no difference in magic vs physical, then ranged vs close, and then 2 minute windows, etc. etc. you get the point. But its all problems that they created. Other games have balancing issues but with that you get more freedom and uniqueness to your character that I think a lot of us took for granted. In the name of balance there really isn't much left if I go in as a paladin and just solo every boss for my party.
