If you tilted your camera for fun (or any other reason really!) and want it set back at the default angle, the keybind is ctrl+shift+end :) It will also reset how close the camera is to your character but that's a minor setback!
If you rescue someone AFTER their LB cast completes, you can cancel out their animation recovery yet still allow the effect. Particularly useful when the DPS uses LB3 near the end of a fight, but they got too hasty and now they're standing in bad!
I think that might actually be a lot more useful for a healer LB3, since they are animation-locked for a lot longer. Only problem is, most of the time a party uses a healer LB3, the other healer died and won't be able to pull that trick.
@@Nirual86 if they think fast enough, it can help! I asked my Co healer to rescue me into position after raising when I used LB3, entering into a two healer stack mechanic and managed to pull it off
@@TheNecrologue I guess there is some chance you can pull it off, if the other healer died in the right place, sure. My reactions tend to result in a lot of rescuing corpses at the best of times though.
A bonus to the transcendence buff: If a mechanic is checking how many people are on a tile, it won't count you! This was specifically very helpful in e9s where if two people were on the same tile it would remove said tile and kill both of them. UNLESS one of them had the buff
The level sync cheese reminds me of another level sync cheese in eureka. In eureka, best way to level up is to do your challenge log which requires you to kill specific elemental mobs that are 2 levels above your own level or below. Let's say you are level 60, and there is a FATE that's level 40 with level 40 mobs next to the FATE. You can sync your level with the FATE and kill the level 40 mobs that are next to it and it will count towards your challenge log!
Yay. I knew all of them! Though, I’ll admit, a few were “Oh yeah, I remember that now.” Here’s a one of mine: Enemies require line of sight to attack, just like players do. You can use this to your advantage as a tank by ducking around a corner until the ranged adds clump up with everyone else. Be careful though, because your *healer* also needs LOS to heal you.
Not that that even comes into play that much but its incredibly handy for that one first room in Aurum Vale and some of the ARR optional dungeons. Speaking of which, sometimes you can drag enemies into traps and other AoEs which will hurt and/or debuff them just like the players. Won't make a whole list here but its always worth a try.
Genuinely impressive! I knew some quad-legends who didn't know all 10! :D Good tip about LoS, especially for older content like Nirual said! I can't think of TOO many modern dungeons with a lot of ranged adds, but man they loved that stuff in their earlier designs...
@@specstreTV Several were “Oh yeah! I remember that.” Like, I knew that 10th one but it became a lot less attractive to futz around with you gear for EXP once they got rid of the exp per mob. RIP Darkhold blue-zone run parties.
But using Arm's Length or Surecast will cancel transcendence so make sure you adjust yourself to not get knocked into the death wall and just take the knock back. As long as you have transcendence you won't die again to the mechanic.
You can also get debuffs while under immunity. Notably, DOTs like poison or bleed, which can kill you. Also some attacks just kill you anyways because the boss just doesn't give a damn.
it sorta depends on the situation but as a rule of thumb, if you can't use your anti-knockback skill against something, transcendence most likely isn't going to save you either. Ditto for stuff that goes through tank invulns. Even if you perfectly time a revive after an enrage goes through the boss is just gonna keep spamming it.
Also there are a few things that go through it, most raid wides in an ultimate raid, the final move of cachexia 1 in p6s and a lot of mechanics where you have to run into orbs to explode them before they reach the center are examples I remember of the top of my head.
if you want to do Emotes without the 'chat spam' messages, you can type '/emote motion ' Where 'emote' is the emote you want to do and 'motion' comes after a space. This makes yo do the 'motion' of the emote, without the chat-spam :)
I actually didn't know that worked! I always just have chat spam messages unchecked on the emote menu and that solves it too, but this is an interesting work around! Thanks for teaching me something :D
On the subject of EXP buffs and level sync, they recently buffed the Mentor EXP buff to apply all the way to level 80 (instead of the nearly useless level 20 cap before). You won't benefit from that from being matched in the duty finder but if you party up beforehand, its a nice bonus for new or returning players with a mentor friend. Even the mentor themselves can benefit from the bonus exp to level other classes.
i have over 1000 hrs of ffxiv. Just learned about Transcendence. Another helpful tip I have. If you're playing a job that has a DoT and there's other people playing the same job as you, You can tell which DoT is yours on the Enemy Target Plate because the countdown text of the DoT is slightly green.
Gear that gives EXP bonuses will give those bonuses until you reach the next level. So Memphina's earring says it gives the bonus until level 80, but you will still get it until you hit 81. So don't take those items off until you reach the next level.
One note about the synced exp buff from items; this only applies to the exp gained from the dungeon, trial or raid. *It doesnt apply to roulette daily bonus if you are over level. This is calculated from your current level. In other words, if I am level 70, the levelling roulette Daily EXP bonus does not get benefit from by exp boosting items like Brand New Ring even if I get Satasha. It still definitely boosts the end of dungeon/ boss exp. *Block doesnt Reduce dot damage* = Why Abyssos feels real fuckin bad on paladin right now. Lordy Lord. Speaking of obscure mechanics, Black mage and White mage can go into Bojza with a shield, even of low level, and even though the item level is low, Resistance level is all that matters for strength. White and Black Mage can then become an ounce tankier that normal in Bojza without loosing any strength! Is it enough to matter? No not really! Still cool!
@@anzeg- the only exception is the new adventurer server exp buff, wich also applies on quests exp. Only useful on a freshly created toon on a selected server though
At least its not as bad as back when blocking only worked on single-target physical damage, negating one of the Paladins big advantages over other tanks, which came at the cost of lower overall damage compared to them. A lot less, compared to today where tanks are practically on even footing.
@1:45 /rally also works, in addition to /comfort. I often do this when I get Lost City (normal) or Gubal Library (normal) in a roulette. @3:07 I changed my shortcut for this in the keybinds, because I'm often using the arrow keys to move and need to hit ctrl and alt for my hotbar buttons. So, funnily enough, my shortcut for the camera change is different, and I keep having to look up what the shortcut is in order to remember it. haha
WHAT. I was expecting to find a bunch of well known tips, but these are all useful and well-hidden. How did I not know about the bonus exp one?! Amazing!
Also healer lb3, while good , is also kinda bad , since it doeant give anyone the trancsendace buff. So if you died on the deathwall , ( although rare i admit) you will instantly die
Some old knockbacks are coded to only be able to knock back if the attack also did damage to the player character. An old cheese for Nero in Praetorium was (and still is) to shield the target of the mechanical hand tether. It won't be able to knock them back because the damage is too small to get past barriers due to gear scaling nowadays. This applies to anyone that gets Transcendence, but more of the modern knockbacks are coded to just 'happen' on snapshot of connecting with the player character.
I'd love a video like this aimed at us console players. There's so many little things I had to learn on my own or research by watching videos like this. Like learning how to expand my cross bars to have more buttons to use. Fellow console players, feel free to drop some knowledge in the replies for others to read.
I can add a couple here, like if you’re on PS4/5, you can use the middle pad as a mousepad of sorts to click on things directly. By pressing on it, you can also quickly toggle trough different things on the hud (like map, quest list, menus, etc.) You can press R3 and L1 (I believe) to toggle “mouse mode” which will let you use the joysticks as you would a mouse. For the crossbar thing, it would be better to look up a video guide, but essentially, go into the controller settings and activate something that says “enable expanded cross hotbar” or something, which will give you additional hot bars to assign skills to instead of just the initial 16 or having to swap between the pages. By pressing the buttons on your D-pad, you will target different items. Usually, up and down with target party members when you’re in a party, and left and right will switch between targets. If you find yourself having trouble targeting the right thing with the dpad, I would recommend going into your settings to change what things to prioritize (like enemies, inanimate objects, minions, NPCs, etc.) Additionally, you can change what gets prioritized when your weapon is sheathed vs unsheathed (like you target mainly enemies when unsheathed). Essentially, take time to go into the settings to play with them and see what works best for you. It has saved me so much headache and made the game playable even as a console player.
One useful PS4 / PS5 tip I recently learned is, like using up down on the D-Pad to cycle through your party list, you can cycle through the enemy list by holding L1 and using up down on the D-Pad.
You can also play with controller on the PC version too! For those who prefer controllers on PC (like me since I started on PS4, and plenty of friends of mine), it's also great to have these tips. Anyway, here's a few of note. L1 + Touch Pad or LB + Select aka "View" on Xbox controller will hide the HUD, and pressing it again will show it again. No need to press scroll lock on your keyboard to do so. Great for taking casual screenshots without having the hud in the way. Also, hold L1/LB and push the right stick up or down to adjust your zoom much like the scroll wheel would with a mouse. You can tab through enemies without needing to play around with pressing d-pad and X/A by holding a trigger and pressing the opposing bumper (e.g. Hold R2/RT and press L1/LB, or hold L2/LT and press R1/RB). This will tab left or right--most importantly you don't need to let go of the triggers you are using to press your actions with.
Fun fact: a lot of cooldowns are shared between jobs with seemingly no relatability. (e.g. AST exaltation = NIN dream within a dream = SGE rhizomata = MNK mantra) It's not really a problem, just neat to look at while hearing about spaghetti code Also when trying to figure out which dancer partnered who try look at the standard step buff timer. The DNC & dance partner will always have the same time remaining on the DNC buff and 9/10 times dancers wont be in perfect sync
the transcendent buff works on some attacks but not every attack. some secondary effects like vuln stacks, knockbacks, or DOTs, only apply if you take damage, and Transcendent means you take 0 damage, so youll ignore those! but some apply no matter what, and youll still get murdered immediately by the knockback, or in 5 seconds when the invuln wears off and the DOT ticks once more. some noteworthy raidwides also just go clean through it, multiple attacks in The Dying Gasp trial are Dark damage, which is the element that goes through invulnerabilities. tanks get to know these attacks very well!
Wait, Dark damage goes through invulns? Huh...is any player Job able to use Dark element abilities? I think there's "True" as a type of damage (that does the same amount, never crits, ignore defenses, mitigations, but also buffs or weaknesses), and I think that's what most Ultimates use.
Another trick about Rez-invuln.... You can use it to "share" damage stacks that otherwise would kill you. Ie: tank 2 is dead, DPS gets rezed, then 2-tank stack Tank Buster happens.. if you have the time left o your Rez Invuln, you can 'share' that Tank Buster with the other tank :D You can also join in 'normal' stack-mechanics whiel under Rez-invuln as well.
Very smart, would love to see more people do that! I'd settle for not throwing the Transcendence away, but seeing people soak stacks with it would be a dream :D
Caveat to the transcendence buff. It is NOT a catch-all immunity. Any incoming mechanic that a tank invuln cannot save a tank from will also affect someone under transcendence. Some raidwides in Savage do this, as well as knockbacks(as KB's don't do damage. :3)
Wow, I recognize you from some of your lore vids! Don't worry, I'm not a cutscene skipper, but that will remain very squarely your domain :D Thank you for the comment!
Any time you have to turn in certain items, whether its Leves or for MSQ, you can RIGHT CLICK (X on Xbox controllers, Square on PS) the item in the mini turn in window that pops up and it automatically gives you like, a line of icons for any and all options for that turn in. Hopefully that made sense 😅
To the newcomers, here's to an exciting adventure. To the veterans, here's to new discoveries, new ways to find comfort. A couple more that seem intuitive only in hindsight, some are PC-exclusive, though: --------------- 1) If you have an enemy targeted, you will see numbers and "A" beside each of the allies engaged with that enemy. This is the emnity order. Enemy will attack A until A or enemy are dead, or if you exceed the amount of emnity A has generated. If A dies, each party member is bumped up the queue, and whoever hits "1" is the new "A". There will also be a bar to measure how close you are to A under each ally's job icon. Useful to watch for between levels 35 and 49. 2) By default, the keys F1-F8 will target yourself, an allied tank/healer, and down the party list as it appears. However, you can always target yourself with F1, even if not in a party. Useful for avoiding what I like to call "Tab Roulette". 3) Several buttons you see in-game and menu options can be pulled to your hotbar - incredibly useful for housing, emote macros, accessing glamor plates, and more than what even Lucy can fit in a RUclips video. - Not exclusively a game mechanic, but... ...other ill-documented things worth attention: - 1) Hotbars 1-8 can all be done (Though you may need to adjust keybinds) using different modifiers of Ctrl, Shift, and Alt while pressing all the same keys you would use by default: None, Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Ctrl+Alt, Ctrl+Shift, Alt+Shift, and Ctrl+Shift+Alt. These hotbars are usable even if not visible, though you will need to set things to your hotbar first. 2) Hotbars without job-exclusive or role-exclusive actions on them will be shared between all of your jobs/roles. 3) Ctrl+Esc will bring up the Start Menu on Windows. Don't try to keybind that. It ends poorly.
Wow, excellent write-up!! I was confused for a long time about the numbers and letters next to mobs-that was a great inclusion LOL. Tanks probably had the most reason to learn it, but as DPS and healer, I just kind of assumed the enemies liked algebra. Also, really good suggestions about better keybinds-modifiers open up so much prime hotkey real estate! Again, really nice work, and it’s always nice to see a vet welcoming all the newcomers to FFXIV!
From someone who plays DRK a lot: TBN always gets priority over any other shield regardless of source or order when it comes to what will break first. I've has so many bad PF Scholars refuse to Adlo me "Because I don't want to waste your TBN", some even having Ultimate titles. It's why you often see a DRK take 0 damage from a Buster you're Kitchen Sinking (rather than invulning) when Adlo crits, because that stacks with the TBN AND the TBN drops first. It makes the Busters i nthe new raid tier much easier to handle as well due to them always putting a bleed on the tank to stop Holmgang + Equilibium/Bloodwhetting from just trivialising the whole mechanic When it comes to two DRKs: TBN simple overwrites TBN and whoever's TBN popped gets the free Edge of Shadow, so there's some hilarious cheese you can pull with Double DRK and a SCH when it comes to multi-hit Busters like Ahk Morn if you time them just right.
also if you ever find it difficult to get your TBN pops you could always toss it onto a healer before a raidwide or stack aoe. Since its based on the targets max HP its not gonna be as beefy as on a tank but its still a free shield that might just prevent a death. Also the combined shielding can cheese some debuffs. The last boss in Delubrum normally puts doom on the tankbuster target but only if they take damage.
Not much was new to me, but some admittedly was. Specifically, I didn't know block/parry was disabled while casting, that rescue would cancel LB (though that makes sense), and xp bonus gear works when synced down
My favourite mech is using arm's length or surecast to prevent getting rescued by overzealous healers. For blinking cast bars, stun also works! The bar will just disappear though, so unlike interrupt, there's no visual confirmation that it went through until you realize you didn't get hit.
some bosses are immune to stun but can still be interrupted, one thing I like to do when I'm new to a dungeon as a tank or can't remember is to try and use a stun near the start of the fight to see if the boss can be stunned and try to remember for the future.
Most bosses after ARR are immune to stun. Still preferable to interrupt and keep your stun to stop an uninterruptable cast though. And there is a visual confirmation with the stun debuff under the boss's hp. And a sound cue as well. The effect "stun" will also flash on boss if it qorked , but will appear as grey with " fully resisted" in parentheses. Wich means immunity
i knew most of these but the more obscure tips about the exp and misery debuff i didnt know! I wish they allowed us to customize more with our builds honestly. I'd love to min/max my block/parry/dodge skills!
Is there any in-depth guide that explains how blocking with shields works? How much do they mitigate and what determines it? What are the odds you will block by chance? Does parrying follow the same rules and have the same odds?
This is the first game I ever played where after 600 hours, I'm still like, "Please, more information! I'm just a beginner." I also promised myself I would never play an MMO before, so I guess it comes with the territory.
I still remember using /comfort for misery all these years since Heavensward was new, all because of Maroon 5's song 'Misery'. "I am in 'misery' there ain't nobody to 'comfort' me." ♪ It always boosts up my mood while healing in dungeons by just randomly singing, lol.
OMG now I finally know WHAT skills mobs are casting I can interrupt lmao. I like tanking but me trying to interrupt has just been a guessing game XD DW anyone, I haven't done any high end raids or some such, mostly just MSQ stuff but still, am I overjoyed to now know which I am actually able to interrupt lol
here's one for all the ninja mains you can stack your debuffs. I know I know shocking but if you use Suiton when trick is under 20 secs on the cool down you can put both Mug and Trick in the same gcd (if you can double weave) this gives you a 15% damage buff for yourself and 5% for all your allies which is massive. Also secret second tip Raiton does more dmg than Doton in 98% of scenarios. Unless doton is hitting 3 or more ads or gets time to hit two ads for it's full duration your doing more dmg in a raiton. This should help avoiding STD (single target doton) Is this me projecting against all the NIN mains I see not using Trick in lv 70+ content is this me having to watch another NIN use doton in Crystal Towers. PROBABLY NOT BUT WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE.
I mean thats a pretty universal approach that extends to the whole party. Unless you have two party members of the same class, you'll always want to combine everything into those juicy burst windows every minute or two. At least as far as damage goes, defensive cooldowns are better spread out, healing as needed.
it's a shame because i think NIN is one of the most satisfying jobs when played correctly (although maybe a little biased -- i'm by no means a stellar NIN player, but also a fellow NIN main). i think it's likely most of the NINs you run into in your daily roulettes, even upwards to 70-80+ content, are either new to the game or the job (or even both). but i wonder how much of it is just people unaware of the changes to TA/mug i also feel like the unnecessary single target doton is a classic sighting. painful to see, but again, i'm sure people just don't know any better 😮💨
Would depend on the dungeon range, I think. Sastasha vs. a level 83 dungeon? Obviously not. But if it the item cut off @ 80 and it was a level 81 vs. 79 dungeon, very possibly. But I think the biggest use case isn't in specific dungeon queues but leveling roulette. People carry 99 stacks of old food for the 3% exp buff, so getting an extra free chunk from items you can just carry around!
This is stuff a lot of folks who has played for years already know. Also why would you wish to use a rescue on someone who does an LB? I've never seen that happen, and that to me sounds more like an encouragement for people to troll others when they go to Limit Break.
rescuing to interrupt an LB definitely seems aggressive and a little bit of a troll, but there are some situational uses i.e. it might be better to yank a dps trying to LB3 if you know you might need a healer or tank LB3 for an upcoming mech there was also one time i got chrysalis for a trial roulette and i had a sprout who didn't know any better try to dps LB nabriales right before he went into phase transition. thankfully, they got the idea and the party was able to save dps LB for the tear b/c i interrupted the cast. other than that though, i think the players in this game are generally chill enough not to use rescue to troll :)
@@28cappuccino21 Still seems dickish to me, also there are only 2 instances when you need to use a Tank LB3. Alexander and Hades. Not sure about any of the recent Ultimate Trials, but it's still very, very few. Feels like a lot of stuff in this vid is 80% stuff that you just learn about while playing the game if you take your time to play from 1 to 90.
@@CrimsonPhoenix91 don't forget seat of sacrifice and endsinger! but that's still 4 fights including the ones in your reply (if i'm not forgetting anything else), so i totally get where you're coming from! and no two players are completely alike, whether old or new or if they took their time leveling -- i knew most of the stuff from this vid, but i can still see it being valuable for a lot of people :)
@@28cappuccino21 ya know I mixxed it up, Hades doesn't have a need for tank lb3, WoL on Seat of Sacrifice yes, but never needed it for Endsigner unless it's for Savage. And that may be true, but for me that becomes the question of if someone just skipped through the story, or bought the story and leveling skips... Cause I know quite a few players who do buy their way to current content and ignore past content.
Ctrl will also bring NPC's names to the forefront, so if you're doing MSQ on day one and a hundred people are surrounding the quest NPC, just hold down Ctrl to hide everyone else's names and make it easy to click on the MSQ guy.
Another useful variation is the 0 on your numpad works like a controllers confirm key. This allows you to find the nearest npc without needing to click on them, hit accept on certain menus faster than using the mouse, and much more.
A yet another way is to hold down (by default) the X key, which only allows you to select NPCs. Though, this migh actually be the same as Ctrl, now that I think about it.
Debuffs you apply to a mob have a light green color to the numbers, whereas everyone else's will be white. Friends trolling you with rescue? Arms Length/Surecast will prevent Rescue as it is considered a knockback. Counterpoint to the res immunity: while you are invulnerable, you are not invulnerable to debuffs, meaning you can still can have DoTs or other effects applied to you. This one mostly only applies to PVP Frontline: movement effects such as Ingress/Elusive Jump etc can be used as ways to rapidly descend terrain without taking damage, as any movement effect automatically places you on the ground as you travel from point A to B. This is also why you cannot use movement effects to cross gaps in boss arenas.
Okay, admittedly, it's not much of a jump puzzle, but the playground with the grounds jumping over the logs / beams. Sometimes, there's a certain dungeon character's ghost hiding behind a light. Here's a (very low res) pic ripped from Google: imgur.com/a/zJRLGOM
Was very usefull tips, thx. Just finished Shadowbringers, so, after the EW will make aug.rinascita and then raids, so, was lurking for some general, but usefull info. 😊👍
Comfort emote for misery what about terror? I don't use eukraisan prognosis as often as I do to re-up shield, it's probably one of the few party heals I have left.
Yeah I knew all these, but I've also been here since ARR. Also some of the stuff you can figure out just by reading tool tips or messing around. Like shields not overwriting if they are lower crit. Whenever you cast a shield just look if it says it refreshed galvanize or not. It's not a hidden mechanic more of a bug, but if you're a WHM (or any caster) and you parry an attack while casting you will stand there doing no animation while still casting for the duration of that cast. If fishing while using a controller the rumble will tell you if it's a big fish or not. Longer rumble is bigger fish. It more than likely doesn't matter anymore but there was/is a sight seeing log jump in ARR that was easier to do if you set your frame rate to 15. A lot of jumps are easier with lower FPS. When you jump you gain full momentum after roughly 2 seconds after you start running so your jump will be longer. Your hitbox is a pixel under your character. Target your character, and place a dot in the very center of the ring, that's your actual hitbox. That's why you can stand in trash and not get hit. The hitbox is the same for every race.
Since we are touching the subject of debuffs... Many debuffs are part of damaging abilities and will be only applied when damage affects your Health Bar. So, if you use an effect that prevents loss of HP entirely (like Shields, Hallowed Ground), the debuffs will not be applied. This is often useful on tanks since they can remove some mechanics, like mines, and will not receive punishment from them. And this includes the Vulnerability Stacking debuff.
You might also want to press Z or Y ( depends where you are from ) to disable all Name plates of Players around you. Works greatly in a hugely crowded space and you want to for example click on something but cant do that cause of all the players
I'm so sorry, wish I had thought to find this info! :( Like willow m. said, it MIGHT be shown in very small text at the bottom of the tooltip, but I couldn't find anything looking online.
I'm so sorry I don't know the controller ones, but I THINK another comment mentioned that one of the back triggers is the ctrl analog on a PS controller!
Been playing since 2.0 and genuinely didn't know that the icons for buffs and debuffs pointed in different directions. I didn't know about the ctrl button, either, but I play with a controller on PS5, so I don't think that one really applies to me. The camera thing sounds really nice though.
There is a setting under character config > control settings > general at the bottom called '3rd person camera angle' that does the same thing with a sliding bar instead if you want to test it out there
As someone new to raiding could you do a general terms for raid names? I didn’t know what protean waves were enumerations chariots and dynamo as some as an example. You may hear these names in certain boss guides but to have them grouped up in a nice vid would be helpful to players wanting to get into raiding. Many other new players I have played with often ask me what the meaning of mech names are since many of these names come from heavens ward and older boss mechs names.
This is a good idea! I'd thought about making a mechanics video and put together a partial script, but wasn't sure what the appeal would be or how exactly I'd execute it. Talking about the terminology and helping newer players "catch up" to vet knowledge is a great angle, though!
"Protean" comes from Living Liquid, a boss from the Alexander raids. It has a mechanic called "Protean Wave" which does a narrow, conal AoE on each living player. To avoid clipping each other, each player stands on a pre-assigned cardinal (N/E/S/W) or inter-cardinal (NE/SE/SW/NW) spot around the boss. Also called "clock spots" by some. "Enumeration" comes from Swindler, another boss from the Alexander raids. It has a mechanic called "Enumeration" that puts a large white circle around a character as well as 1-4 white orbs inside the circle. The number of orbs represent the number of people that have to be in that circle. So 3 orbs mean 2 other people need to be in it (2 + the marked player). "Chariot" and "Dynamo" come from Nael van Darnus, a boss from the Bahamut raids. She has mechanics called "Iron Chariot" and "Lunar Dynamo". Iron Chariot a fairly large circle AoE directly under her. Lunar Dynamo is a donut-shaped AoE around her. Put simply, chariot means "move away" and dynamo means "move in."
not seeing people calling stuff chariots these days, its usually just donuts for ring-shaped aoes. Think Exoflares are the most esoteric term I see being tossed around since those do show up pretty often and nothing simpler has caught on for "AoE attacks that move along a set path" yet. Might be different among hardcore raider communities, I'm mostly talking about mechanics that you'll run into even as a casual player and aren't easy to pick up from the marker language alone.
I need to take this piece of advice myself, but if you are a summoner/scholar or another DPS that has a Raise action, you will want to wait out that 5 seconds after you are rezzed before trying to Rez others, because often, you won't have enough MP to raise. Instinctively hitting your swiftcast, then having to wait till you have MP to raise another will do you little good, cause now, your 5 seconds of invuln is gone.
The debuff/buff icon shape is based on shogi piece. Where the shape pointing upwards is your piece and the downwards is the opponent piece.
This is actually an interesting piece of trivia! I didn't think about that! I just figured they were arrows...
Now that you said it, I can see that. I wouldn't had even thought of that without someone mentioning
Holy that's nice
If you tilted your camera for fun (or any other reason really!) and want it set back at the default angle, the keybind is ctrl+shift+end :) It will also reset how close the camera is to your character but that's a minor setback!
This is a great keybind, thanks for sharing! :D
That ctrl to select aetherytes thing is going to be so useful for hunt trains!
Another option is to press X. Filters out all player characters so you can select the damn quest NPC everyone is crowded around on patch days.
If you rescue someone AFTER their LB cast completes, you can cancel out their animation recovery yet still allow the effect. Particularly useful when the DPS uses LB3 near the end of a fight, but they got too hasty and now they're standing in bad!
i am willing to accept the bonk for the precious lb3
I think that might actually be a lot more useful for a healer LB3, since they are animation-locked for a lot longer. Only problem is, most of the time a party uses a healer LB3, the other healer died and won't be able to pull that trick.
I once did this to a dps and they called me toxic... for rescuing them out of their animation lock... in an instant kill aoe........
@@Nirual86 if they think fast enough, it can help! I asked my Co healer to rescue me into position after raising when I used LB3, entering into a two healer stack mechanic and managed to pull it off

Though, I’ll admit, a few were “Oh yeah, I remember that now.”
Here’s a one of mine: Enemies require line of sight to attack, just like players do.
Good tip about LoS, especially for older content like Nirual said!
@@Nirual86 It's really super important in PotD, especially solo runs. Breaking LoS can save a floor 199 wipe.
@@WalkerRileyMC oh yeah it can definitely come into play there, its just not exactly regular gameplay content. It also matters a lot more in PvP.
So about the ressurection immunity. Important thing to know is that you will still get knockbacked from mechanics if you are alive during them.
This makes yo do the 'motion' of the emote, without the chat-spam :)
just go into the emotes window and untick the chat thing
I actually didn't know that worked! I always just have chat spam messages unchecked on the emote menu and that solves it too, but this is an interesting work around! Thanks for teaching me something :D
@@specstreTV That's how most custom emotes are made. They use /(whatever emote) motion and /em to put a custom emote message into the chat
This is actually great to know! Very helpful :D
Also I was surprised that trade mentor status works for this as well
i have over 1000 hrs of ffxiv. Just learned about Transcendence.
Another helpful tip I have.
If you're playing a job that has a DoT and there's other people playing the same job as you, You can tell which DoT is yours on the Enemy Target Plate because the countdown text of the DoT is slightly green.
In your defense, before... I wanna say Endwalker? The buff was invisible. They finally gave it visibility as a stat buff.
Still cool!
The exp buff doesn't apply to roulette exp anyway, regardless of levels. It's mob exp only.
@@anzeg- the only exception is the new adventurer server exp buff, wich also applies on quests exp. Only useful on a freshly created toon on a selected server though
@@ZelosSama Oh cool, that's good info, thanks
At least its not as bad as back when blocking only worked on single-target physical damage, negating one of the Paladins big advantages over other tanks, which came at the cost of lower overall damage compared to them. A lot less, compared to today where tanks are practically on even footing.
does it work with FATEs?
Amazing!
I watched this just for fun, assuming I'd know them all. I did not know the last one. That could be really useful, thank you.
Sadly, Transcendence does not make you immune to knockbacks, so you can get rezzed and immediately get swept off the platform.
Happened to a guy I rezzed in P7N, gets up and immediately yeeted off the platform.
@@TheHarpieking Yeah, I also learned this the hard way in P7.
Also healer lb3, while good , is also kinda bad , since it doeant give anyone the trancsendace buff. So if you died on the deathwall , ( although rare i admit) you will instantly die
NIER 3 WOULD LIKE A WORD. Raise and get YEETED BY A TRAIN.
@@sonny2035 ooh that's pretty cool actually. I'll have to try it tonight!
(e.g. AST exaltation = NIN dream within a dream = SGE rhizomata = MNK mantra) It's not really a problem, just neat to look at while hearing about spaghetti code
Also when trying to figure out which dancer partnered who try look at the standard step buff timer. The DNC & dance partner will always have the same time remaining on the DNC buff and 9/10 times dancers wont be in perfect sync
That cooldown thing is hilarious. Neat find! :D
And dancers being out of sync? Sounds about right.
the transcendent buff works on some attacks but not every attack. some secondary effects like vuln stacks, knockbacks, or DOTs, only apply if you take damage, and Transcendent means you take 0 damage, so youll ignore those! but some apply no matter what, and youll still get murdered immediately by the knockback, or in 5 seconds when the invuln wears off and the DOT ticks once more.
some noteworthy raidwides also just go clean through it, multiple attacks in The Dying Gasp trial are Dark damage, which is the element that goes through invulnerabilities. tanks get to know these attacks very well!
I saw someone was about to take a vuln stack but transcendence made it say no effect. it happened during endsinger.
Ie: tank 2 is dead, DPS gets rezed, then 2-tank stack Tank Buster happens.. if you have the time left o your Rez Invuln, you can 'share' that Tank Buster with the other tank :D
You can also join in 'normal' stack-mechanics whiel under Rez-invuln as well.

Another thing about parry specifically is that you can only parry physical attacks.
This is a great tip! I spent so long as a new player manually hunting things down in my bag and dragging them in…
after all theses years i didnt knew an emote could be a esuna 2.0 in my whole life, also that ctrl on inventory omg how could i not notify this?
To the newcomers, here's to an exciting adventure. To the veterans, here's to new discoveries, new ways to find comfort.
A couple more that seem intuitive only in hindsight, some are PC-exclusive, though:
---------------
1) If you have an enemy targeted, you will see numbers and "A" beside each of the allies engaged with that enemy.
- Not exclusively a game mechanic, but... ...other ill-documented things worth attention: -
1) Hotbars 1-8 can all be done (Though you may need to adjust keybinds) using different modifiers of Ctrl, Shift, and Alt while pressing all the same keys you would use by default:
None, Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Ctrl+Alt, Ctrl+Shift, Alt+Shift, and Ctrl+Shift+Alt.
You're doing well for a new channel! Congrats!! :) Good editing
Thank you so much!! I've actually seen at least one of your videos (the Quality of Life macros one), so that means a lot! :D

„It‘s monday, technically tuesday“ that one hit way close to home
another banger once again, i learned a lot. the editing was also really good and im looking forward to the next one. third
I can happily claim I didn't learn a single thing from this video
What about resetting your POV with the "End" button between main keys and numpad? Or the "Scroll Lock" and the "Home" buttons?
From someone who plays DRK a lot: TBN always gets priority over any other shield regardless of source or order when it comes to what will break first. I've has so many bad PF Scholars refuse to Adlo me "Because I don't want to waste your TBN", some even having Ultimate titles. It's why you often see a DRK take 0 damage from a Buster you're Kitchen Sinking (rather than invulning) when Adlo crits, because that stacks with the TBN AND the TBN drops first. It makes the Busters i nthe new raid tier much easier to handle as well due to them always putting a bleed on the tank to stop Holmgang + Equilibium/Bloodwhetting from just trivialising the whole mechanic
When it comes to two DRKs: TBN simple overwrites TBN and whoever's TBN popped gets the free Edge of Shadow, so there's some hilarious cheese you can pull with Double DRK and a SCH when it comes to multi-hit Busters like Ahk Morn if you time them just right.
also if you ever find it difficult to get your TBN pops you could always toss it onto a healer before a raidwide or stack aoe. Since its based on the targets max HP its not gonna be as beefy as on a tank but its still a free shield that might just prevent a death. Also the combined shielding can cheese some debuffs. The last boss in Delubrum normally puts doom on the tankbuster target but only if they take damage.
Also, remember to always ALWAYS keep a Lala close at hand for emergency rations or to throw over castle walls to create mass havoc and chaos.
oh no, lala are too boney, terrible taste, you don't want to do that!!
Excuse me, Lalas are not cows to be catapulted over walls. :( :(
Not much was new to me, but some admittedly was.
Specifically, I didn't know block/parry was disabled while casting, that rescue would cancel LB (though that makes sense), and xp bonus gear works when synced down
Glad even a few of them helped! :D
Nice video, but one question.
What's the name of the sword you have equipped as Dark Knight?
Thank you so much!! That’s the Caladbog Anemos, one of the early stages of the Stormblood DRK relic weapon!
i knew most of these but the more obscure tips about the exp and misery debuff i didnt know!
LOL, that's a great way of remembering it! Good catch! :D
OMG now I finally know WHAT skills mobs are casting I can interrupt lmao. I like tanking but me trying to interrupt has just been a guessing game XD
DW anyone, I haven't done any high end raids or some such, mostly just MSQ stuff but still, am I overjoyed to now know which I am actually able to interrupt lol
LOL, you're fine!! It's not something the game makes SUPER obvious, that's why I thought it'd be a decent start here. Glad it helped :D
you can get rid of the gremlin debuff also by /rally
This was surprisingly helpful O.o Thanks for all the good tips!
There's also the ability to move the duty actions in your HUD settings but it's just under duty. I've noticed a ton of people that didnt know that
Learned a lot, thanks!
here's one for all the ninja mains you can stack your debuffs.
This should help avoiding STD (single target doton)
Is this me projecting against all the NIN mains I see not using Trick in lv 70+ content is this me having to watch another NIN use doton in Crystal Towers. PROBABLY NOT BUT WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE.
Love it, those are some ninja main tips indeed :D
@@specstreTV I know as a NIN main I have um pain problems when I see them happening so I try my best to help
I mean thats a pretty universal approach that extends to the whole party. Unless you have two party members of the same class, you'll always want to combine everything into those juicy burst windows every minute or two. At least as far as damage goes, defensive cooldowns are better spread out, healing as needed.
@@Nirual86 you'd be surprised how many NIN's don't do this
it's a shame because i think NIN is one of the most satisfying jobs when played correctly (although maybe a little biased -- i'm by no means a stellar NIN player, but also a fellow NIN main). i think it's likely most of the NINs you run into in your daily roulettes, even upwards to 70-80+ content, are either new to the game or the job (or even both). but i wonder how much of it is just people unaware of the changes to TA/mug
i also feel like the unnecessary single target doton is a classic sighting. painful to see, but again, i'm sure people just don't know any better 😮💨
with the exp buff trick, does the exp awarded from the boss with the buff beat out the exp awarded for a dungeon you aren't synced for?
Would depend on the dungeon range, I think. Sastasha vs. a level 83 dungeon? Obviously not. But if it the item cut off @ 80 and it was a level 81 vs. 79 dungeon, very possibly. But I think the biggest use case isn't in specific dungeon queues but leveling roulette. People carry 99 stacks of old food for the 3% exp buff, so getting an extra free chunk from items you can just carry around!
This is stuff a lot of folks who has played for years already know. Also why would you wish to use a rescue on someone who does an LB? I've never seen that happen, and that to me sounds more like an encouragement for people to troll others when they go to Limit Break.
rescuing to interrupt an LB definitely seems aggressive and a little bit of a troll, but there are some situational uses i.e. it might be better to yank a dps trying to LB3 if you know you might need a healer or tank LB3 for an upcoming mech
there was also one time i got chrysalis for a trial roulette and i had a sprout who didn't know any better try to dps LB nabriales right before he went into phase transition. thankfully, they got the idea and the party was able to save dps LB for the tear b/c i interrupted the cast. other than that though, i think the players in this game are generally chill enough not to use rescue to troll :)
Super useful, good call! :D Half the challenge of doing day 1 MSQ is just interacting with the NPCs.
The only Gridania jump puzzles I can think of are the lamp and the gate for those sightseeing logs. What jump puzzle ghost?
Okay, admittedly, it's not much of a jump puzzle, but the playground with the grounds jumping over the logs / beams. Sometimes, there's a certain dungeon character's ghost hiding behind a light. Here's a (very low res) pic ripped from Google: imgur.com/a/zJRLGOM

Comfort emote for misery what about terror? I don't use eukraisan prognosis as often as I do to re-up shield, it's probably one of the few party heals I have left.
/comfort is so RP even tabletops don't have that.
*Veteran of nine years since ARR*
What? Buffs pointed up?
What? CTRL did that?
What!? Those experience gear worked synced!?
Didn't know about the camera tilt! That could come in handy.
Now play a Lala with a camera tilt-you will achieve optimal camera angles the Scions won't tell you about.

I was like "oh yeah? Challenge accepted.".... Damn you. Take my like...
Very happy to! Thank you so much, glad the video taught you something! :D
How do you do the ctrl stuff on controller?
Sorry about that! I believe it's one of the back triggers! :D
thanks for your help i haven't plaid in years
You might also want to press Z or Y ( depends where you are from ) to disable all Name plates of Players around you. Works greatly in a hugely crowded space and you want to for example click on something but cant do that cause of all the players
Grats on your zepla react ✌️
does anyone know if there's an equivalent for ctrl for us measley ps4 players? i want to check the stats of high quality versions of items..
i think if you hover over the item it should say the keybind at the bottom of the tooltip, it does for PC so i dont see why it wouldnt for PS4
I'm so sorry, wish I had thought to find this info! :( Like willow m. said, it MIGHT be shown in very small text at the bottom of the tooltip, but I couldn't find anything looking online.
@@willowm.8444 i don't remember seeing it but I'll try to keep an eye out, thank you
@@specstreTV no worries! it was a fantastic video
I wonder, if USB keyboard connected to the PS4 helps? (needs to check later).
holy smokes, i learned a lot from this
Happy to hear that! :D
Anyone know what Crtl equivalent on controller?
I'm so sorry I don't know the controller ones, but I THINK another comment mentioned that one of the back triggers is the ctrl analog on a PS controller!
only thing i learned was the misery/comfort one.
props
Great tips! Zepla sent me.
I'm so glad!! Thank you so much for watching, and I'm super grateful she did that! :D
Been playing since 2.0 and genuinely didn't know that the icons for buffs and debuffs pointed in different directions.
I didn't know about the ctrl button, either, but I play with a controller on PS5, so I don't think that one really applies to me. The camera thing sounds really nice though.
There is a setting under character config > control settings > general at the bottom called '3rd person camera angle' that does the same thing with a sliding bar instead if you want to test it out there
Wait… what are those boots in the outro?
The Virtu Didact's Boots! They're a dyeable recolor of the lvl 89 Sage job boots that you buy from the PvP vendors in Wolf's Den Pier!
My playtime is...over 128 days and I didn't know any of these wtf lol Thank you for the info!
glad they were new :D
Been playing for 9 years, and I didn't know about misery and /comfort. xD
why didnt you tell me about the ctrl camera movement im shaking my fists and punching the air rn .
good video keep up the good work!!
