Thank you very much for this guide. However, I have a slight gripe with your point at 3:13. What you said about getting Misery into the two minute window and benefiting from raid buffs is 100% true, but first, you ask the question, "Which is more likely: All 4 Glares critting, or 1 Misery critting?" This is not the correct question - what we should be looking at is the expected value of casting Misery or 4 Glares. For simplicity's sake, let's say that Glare does 100 damage, Misery does 400 damage, and you have a 15% crit chance. In other words, there is an 85% chance that you do normal damage and a 15% chance you do 1.5x damage (since that is the damage bonus when you have 15% crit chance). The expected value of a given event with a numeral outcome is the likelihood of the outcome times the value of the outcome. Therefore: The expected value of casting Glare is (100 * 0.85) + (150 * .15), or 107.5. So, the expected value of casting 4 Glares is 4x107.5, or 430. The expected value of casting Misery is (400 * 0.85) + (600 *.15), or 430. The primary difference between casting 4 Glares or 1 Misery is that the total amount of damage you do with 4 Glares will be a normal distribution centered on the expected value (430), whereas the value of casting 1 Misery is a truly random distribution. But over time, if you cast 100 Miseries, that will also become a normal distribution with the average centered on 430. Now, it is literally true that critting on all 4 Glares is less likely than critting on 1 Misery (.05% chance vs 15% chance), but as far as actual outcomes go, casting loads and loads of Glares and Miseries will result in the same distribution over time. The probability that at least 1 Glare out of 4 crits is (1 - 0.85^4), or 47.74%. That would bring total damage to 450 or higher (depending on number of crits), which is more than the expected value of one cast of Misery. It's like the 2d6 vs 1d12 problem in DnD. The answer boils down to: 2d6 (4 glares) is more consistent and more likely to give you the middling range of possible values whereas 1d12 (Misery) is more unpredictable and can result in high or low values more frequently.
Elusive self-pin, but someone pointed out I didn't go a lot into RAISING: 1) White Mage, despite having Thin Air, is kind of low on the raising priority list because its GCD spam (Glare) has one of the highest potencies of any healer, meaning others lose less by sending out the rez. You can and should still rez, however, especially if your co-healer's mana is trending downward already. It's also just an unavoidable part of prog. 2) Swiftcast, accordingly, CAN be saved for rezzing, but it's also a pretty important movement tool for WHM. I recommend holding it during prog in case you need to raise someone, then gradually finding areas of high-movement where you want to use it as your group cleans the fight up and dies less. 2b) In case I'm in a group like PF or duty finder where there isn't voicechat, I also have this handy Swiftcast macro: /micon Swiftcast /p Swiftcast ready in Essentially, you press it and it reports your exact CD left on Swift, e.g., "Swiftcast ready in 0:13." It's a good way of letting people know you either can or can't rez, because I don't personally care for rez macros. The little audio blip at the end is just to grab attention and I don't spam it, but you can remove it if you'd prefer. Thank you all!!
It depends for tip #1. 1) WHM is higher on the priority list due to Thin Air. It's true that WHM has higher potency per GCD but we're talking one GCD. If you are worried about that small difference then at that point both healers are running low-pie sets and if a non-thin air healer res's they risk running out of MP for the fight. Just do the res with Thin Air.
As an AST i often get the res prio as we have the most mana tools and the least damage out of all healers. So i had a ""Swiftcast on CD. Slowressing " macro to let the other healer/the party know theyre on their own for 7 seconds. I didnt know i could use a macro to notify the cooldown! Thats amazing!! thank you.
2) Ah yes, the eternal struggle of "do I trust my party to NOT fuck up this mechanic we've done a million times at this point" xD The gamble NEVER pays off in my experience =_= It's like they see you using Swift and then immediately fuck up just to spite you 😂
Something this video didn't mention is about the natural hp regen all characters have. If the boss does a raid wide followed by avoidable attacks, it will give everyone a chance to recover naturally, meaning you may not need to heal up the raid wide at all (mostly in Normal difficulty, where they don't hit as hard). People don't need to sit at 100% HP the whole time, leaving them partially empty lets their own HP regen do the work for you while you cast more glare.
This 100% 🎉 Sadly it for sprouts and non-healers doing this comes off as being lazy no healing healer too dps heavy...when its actually just playing smart under the surface level
@@kurhooni5924 I think it does because people don't wanna be stuck in sastasha all day. Just because the bosses won't literally wipe you for it doesn't mean you should intentionally waste peoples time by holding back on dps. It also makes healing more satisfying.
@@Zadamanim Yeah so now, after years being roasted by dumb ppl who always blame the heal for not healing, theywill also be roasted for not doing enouth dps >< i could get it in end game content, but in normal dungeon, with a sprout, i just let them play and discover the game... Playing a video game is it'self a wast of time.Nobody will give it you back, dps or not :)
@@kurhooni5924 Yes if they are a sprout it makes sense they would not have practiced optimizing their dps yet, and if they are unfamiliar with the mechanics then even more reason to play carefully with the healing. But if you have a healer at 90 and still spam cure 1 instead of glare then I will be irritated lol.
@@LlamaFIL it objectively is. In savages if you die much you don't clear anyway, regardless of how good the healer is. And the gameplay in a party that doesn't randomly fail mechs is extremely simple.
@@LlamaFIL ppl say it's too easy?! Being a healer is like watching bunch of toddlers, where one is always drowning and the rest are sticking forks to electrical outlets. It's stressful, but fun
as a healer, the joy is mutual - for everyone except whm, panic dumping heals into a drk’s health bar (but not too much, otherwise they LOST THE INVULN 😅) was um, Interesting. you guys are more than welcome to be honorary warriors as far as i’m concerned.
As a very experienced tank/dps raider but very, very baby healer this was a really cool video to watch. Fun to kinda see the thought process of a healer and definitely picked up on tricks for when I do want to take whm into harder content.
thanks for the guide, very helpful! also love the little details you added, including the pop up tool tips and diagrams floating around + the chalk writing noises @ 2:24 (i thought i was going insane). looking forward to the next video
Thank you so much for the guide. There aren't so many guides that go over the wheres and whys of when you want to use your healing skills like this, and having that context helps a lot.
Omg, I had no idea you could target someone else with Cure III... that alone makes this vid a huge win, even though I knew most of this. Thanks so much!
Fun thing about Medica 2: Given the length of the GCD is rroughly tick length, if you chain cast Medica 2 over and over, where only ONE tick is healing from each one before you overwrite it, 250 + 150 = 400 potency of healing. That is, you cast Medica 2 and get the 250 heal, immediately start casting it again, the first tick will register for 150, then the cast goes off. So AT MINIMUM, if you were chain casting Medica 2 (which is silly, but if you were), you're doing the same healing as chain casting Medica 1. The only difference is it's 100 MP more and has 5y more range. At this point, if Medica 2's MP cost was reduced by 100, there would literally be no reason for Medica 1 to be in the kit except for running low level content (and not confusing new players a smidge). If Medica 1's tooltip was rewritten "250 potency heal, 150 potency Regen duration 3 sec", and Medica 2's MP cost was reduced by 100, Medica 2 would be a straight upgrade, and it would be more obvious when written that way. As it is, Medica 1 is a SLIGHTLY better option if the party is > 10 y apart but < 15 y AND you have 900/1800/2700 MP exactly, such that Medica 2 casts don't work out (more than 2700 and it honestly doesn't matter) There are some quirks like that. Cure 1 is also SLIGHTLY faster, so there's an EXTREMELY niche case use for it when you need a heal to land in less than 2 sec but greater than 1.5 is still okay. I've had this happen from time to time, but it's extremely rare. Cure 2 has somewhat more use since it's more powerful and is a strong option if a Tank wall-to-wall pulls more than they can chew/mitigate and you've already used Solace, Tetra, and Bene. It used to be better when Thin Air was a 15 second duration rather than charges, but it's still the most powerful spamable single target heal in the game. A second use case is if you have a Misery prepped, three Lilies up, but are finishing off the second wall-to-wall in a 4 man (that is, as soon as these die, you go into the boss fight) and all the enemies are less than about 10-15% health but the tank needs a patch up heal. Granted, you often have plenty of CDs and oGCDs you can use, but it's fine to throw a Cure 2 in this situation since the enemies are about to die and it's more fun (and slightly more damage optimal) to enter a boss fight with a Misery right off the bat in that first buff window. Cure 1 really need to upgrade to Cure 2 (though Cure 2 would need a MP cost decrease to make this really viable - but hey, Benific 2 is cheaper and not game breaking, so...), and Medica 1 needs its tooltip adjusted (so people don't think it's a nerf) and then straight upgrade to Medica 2 for 900 MP cost. But it's not like anyone asks me these things... :) . WHM is fun and its straightforwardness is a strength, not a weakness. Not every Job/class in a game needs to be gigabrain to be fun, I think. I play all four Healers and always pick Healer classes in games, and I love it more than any of the others. Its kit is arguably the one in the best shape right now. The Lily system just works amazingly well and is the only Healer not penalized for using some GCD tools. IMO, the only problem with WHM is it has no "lesser" mit in its toolkit, which feels like an oversight. If it had a 60 sec 5% damage reduction button, that would more or less patch the one remaining hole in its kit, I think. I've seen it suggested Plenary be used for that, and think it would probably fit the bill.
Still leveling sprout and probably not going to white mage as sage feels more my thing for healing.. but this info was still useful for mechanics for another class! And that "character schooling you"-video style is absolutely adorable!
Oooof. Thank you for the guide, it was very good and after just returning to the game a little over a week ago I learned a few things I can immediately apply. But oh boy, how overwhelming. I'll bookmark this and save it for when I'm ready to improve again and understand some more things first.
Something I learned from a long long time ago is that if you see a DPS about to die you don't have to give them bene to save them. A Regen should do just as good since they most likely just goofed a mechanic the regen at least will either get them back to safety so you can focus on other things and if you have time throw tetra or something. They don't need bene but of course do use it for it's intended purpose as described in this video. :)
@@Baaforsheep I've also learned it's important to lily in cases of movement even if everybody is full health. Of course what I do is if my dia is on its last few seconds I'll dia instead since I want to keep that damage up. I used only dot during movement but it's more efficient to do that for your lilies since you'll end up getting misery out sooner.
Came back to the game after 8 months, so I decided to see where things might be in the game after a while. First off, glad to see things haven't changed very much, but still saddened to see that WHM still gets flak for being "simple". While it's true that it's skill floor is below sea level, I strongly believe that it's skill ceiling is also pretty darn high in comparison to other healer jobs.
I'm so happy to see you're still doing these! Your Sage video came out right around the time I was thinking about dipping my toes into that job, and it really helped me from pure healer to barrier healer. I do hope you'll do more of this in the future! (especially Astro, jkjk unless unless 🥺) As a healer main, I'm really enjoying your top quality healer content
thank you!! ❤️ i am, though the job guides/analyses are definitely harder on me in terms of workload than the goofy fact/trivia videos. i do like making them though, so expect to see one pop up every now and then! :D
Great guide as always ! I've always wanted to try savage but i'm afraid lol and because of my school schedule but watching this is very helpful since i'ce recently caught up with the latest msq
you absolutely should!! the worst thing that happens is you don’t like it. there ARE some toxic “bad apples” here or there, but in my experience those people usually just huff and puff and then just leave the group. most people are actually pretty chill, especially toward newer players, but if you feel anxious at all about your potential performance, there are both beginner-friendly PFs and statics all over the place! i hope you enjoy it, and congrats on getting caught up in the MSQ!! :D
Thank you so much for this guide. I got kicked out of two statics (Despite telling them I was new to healing savage) and felt so down that I was a horrible WHM. This actually helped me better understand where I can improve and look forward to next raid tier to put the practice I'm going to do on EX trials into action. Quick question for you, will you be making a SCH guide like you did SGE? The SGE guide was actually how I found your channel and would love guides on the other healers. You put just the right amount of information in without causing overload.
i appreciate the kind words!! :D that sucks you had some bad experiences, usually people are kinder to beginning healers. seems like you have an absolutely kickass attitude though-perseverance and not getting discouraged is literally 95% of the struggle in learning anything, especially FF pve. i’m glad to hear that some of the stuff here was useful, but if you’re serious about learning some more, i am once again shilling for the Balance discord. the WHM stuff (and really general healer stuff) they have in there is top tier. from attitude alone i’ll say you’ll probably be able to clear if you can just find the right fit w/ a group :D as for the SCH guide - maybe. the class guides take me quite a lot longer to make even when i know the jobs well, and sch/ast are my weakest two healers. i’d want to really wrap my head around some of their modern nuances before i felt comfortable teaching others even the basics. it’s not a no, but a “maybe SoonTM.” glhf out there :D
As I am getting into endgame, (being about to enter Endwalker) I have seen that I need to start applying some more asvanced tips as WHM, and this has helped me a bunch to see what exactly I am doing wrong and how to get better. I will deffinately be using this to keep my party topped up and become an even better glare mage! XD
I just started playing the game and I decided to go for whm. For sure I mess up and I don’t know about game mechanics yet, but I love it. Discovering how holy works was life changing.
Pro-tip: Go to Delubrum Reginae and play WHM as a DPS. Essence of the Ordained + Chainspell + Seraph Strike. You wanna use up lillies constantly to get Misery ready for your Seraph Chain burst window AND you wanna use Thin Air to cast Seraph Strike (5000mp). Also, it is actually worth snapshotting a DIA before the buffs fall off. It's perfect practice for the high end play style. And it's a lot of fun seeing your character hit for 250,000 damage in one hit.
Hey specstre ! Having seen a few of your guides and the amount of effort and quality that goes behind them, I wanted to ask if you're maybe planning to release an AST guide in the future ? Thanks in advance !
thank you very much for the kind words :D as for an AST guide, maybe?? I like AST a lot and HAVE played it a bit this tier, but I’m still a bit rusty at it and haven’t really clicked with the Endwalker changes. the bigger issue though is that they’ve already announced another MAJOR rework for 7.0, so part of me is hesitant to cover its current iteration. of course, 7.0 is like, a year out, so no guarantees! i still might.
Wow thank you. I was using cure 1 as my main heal, and was asked why I'm using the spell in a dungeon yesterday. I thought it was a really odd question until now XD
Don't feel bad-it isn't made super obvious to newer players, and it's kind of mean for them to leave Cure 1 in the game like that in the first place. It really SHOULD just auto-upgrade to Cure 2, as the situations in which Cure 1 is "better" are so incredibly niche as to be basically irrelevant. Glad this made it make sense, though! :D
will you do the same kind of video as this for other healers as well ? this is by far one of the best in depth healing tutorials I've ever seen I would love to watch more
appreciate the kind words! ❤️ i will definitely consider it, but i’ve spent most of this tier on whm. i have clears on all the other healers too, but they’re not quite as optimized as my whm. if i play them a bit more and feel more confident in my authority to teach them, i’d love to make similar videos though, so we’ll see :)
One thing i suggest for WHM players is that assize while being MP and damage, is sometimes very worth to hold for a few seconds for raid damage incoming. I will typically not hold mine more than perhaps 4 or 5 seconds at the most and only if i know raid damage is coming, otherwise i just use it on CD. Its a very powerful heal, and used well will let you keep spamming glare without needing to heal. This is especially powerful for openers when you want to use assize during raid buffs and cast as many glares as possible during raid buffs, but typically there is an opening raidwide you would have to heal, when you dont have any lilies generated yet. Asylum+assize will heal most dmg from any opening raid wide, and allow you to just keep casting glare. Also if your party isnt standing in your asylum, yell at them. Asylum has a pretty strong heal over time and that is preferred to having your healer cast another GCD heal because your party wouldnt stand in it. Great guide!
Assize's heal is nothing to sneeze at, it IS quite strong, but while you have SOME wiggle room, it CAN be dangerous to delay it, especially with the new 40 second cooldown. Admittedly, this is some pretty sweaty stuff, but it's a personal DPS loss if delaying winds up costing you a use of it later in the fight (that is, the boss dies while your Assize is on CD BECAUSE you delayed it, and had you not you could've gotten another Assize in). Of course, party health takes priority and so your advice is still sound in most cases, but it's just something to consider if DPS / parsing is your priority. Anyways, I do agree delaying has its place now and then, and thank you for the kind words! :D
Only delay Assize when you know it does not affect the number of casts in a fight or if your focus is PURELY prog. For example, the typical WHM "opener" is Glare+PoM > Glare+Assize. However in some fights like P8S P2, I like to do Glare+PoM > Glare+Asylum > Glare+Assize because the fourth Assize will not come up before High Concept anyway. Another example is P5S, where you cannot hold Assize during the very first Double Rush - if delayed (to put it in the burst phase), you cannot squeeze it in before Devour. There are no opener raidwides in Savage content this tier that are followed up by immediate damage. It doesn't matter you don't have Lilies yet because you don't need to heal after taking damage - you just need to heal before the next damage is incoming.
Thank you for this!! I'm a Scholar main in hard content and I'm just leveling WHM now so I have a pure healer when the Shield Healer slot is taken, and I was anxious about the time I get to Level 90 because I didn't know how to play the two jobs differently ;w;
I promise, if you’re comfortable with SCH, WHM will feel just fine :) Just gotta play with it a bit and get comfortable with all its tools, but they’re all quite simple and you don’t have to worry about any fairy shenanigans or aetherflow decisions. Just feed the Lily and Glare to your heart’s content!
Well made video, I've been a whm since ARR but some of the smaller details like dot refresh or holy on 2 vs 3 targets are things I never thought to look into. I also feel like I subconsciously knew that about wings he asylum but its quite interesting when actually explained out loud. I found myself using medica 1 for the first time regularly during p8s prog, usually its a tool that doesn't come up much but the damage that comes out during natural alignment during that fight as well as for general healing during high concept make it quite handy to have as a reliable wide reaching heal.
During downtime mechanics you have two goals as whm. Cap your blood lily and keep people alive. If your blood lily is already prepped then spamming medica/medica2 is no damage loss, just make sure to thin air/lucid to not go oom
i must say this was quite an interesting guide, as someone who just recently joined a static as the pure healer (and more or less against my own personal opinionated will, used to find WHM so boring that i never saw myself touching it after i got it to 90) currently as WHM(main job is SGE but the shield healer spot was already filled by another SGE sooo pure healer it is) so this is something i will try to atleast keep in mind as we slowly but surely prog trough the savage raids.
i wish you guys the best of luck :) whm IS “boring” in terms of its flavor/design/mechanics compared to, say, ast, but there’s plenty to learn and maximize, and it’s very satisfying to hit a 90k afflatus misery!
Similar delayed effect point stands for nearly all offgcds heals/shields. Too many times healing happens before damage hits, but then people with 53k hp end up in the grave from 32k dmg raid wide. Where in the exact same situation GCD heals can be even closer to the damage event, but simply work.
Hey there! Thanks for the video. I main tank but I want to give healing a try too. What happens to snapshots when the dsmage is done after several seconds when the cast ends? Think about Ravening or Silkspit. Does it still mitigate those attacks even if the debuff is over before you are hit? Thanks again for the video and take care!
Watching this purely to figure out why I run OOM in alliance raids. I don't need this as I am a raid melee/tank but the explanation why Lilies should be used for MP management and being reminded on how Plenary actually works is great info for a non-healer veteran that still needs to heal sometimes.
glad it helped! :D for sure, all this stuff transfers to easier content too, and so long as you’re not like, dry spamming cure 3 or running a literally max spellspeed-melded set, you should notice your mp usage flatten considerably if you’re keeping lucid up, using Lilys properly, and Thin Airing the expensive stuff :)
have to mention it takes a GCD or so for confession to apply to everyone. so if you hit plenary>rapture it may not hit everyone with that plenary buff too. (something ive noticed while healing) So ill always tell them to hit plenary>glare>rapture instead to be 100% sure you get the rapture fully buffed in there.
3:20 Yeah, but the opposite is also true; if you're unlucky and Misery doesn't crit, it's like 4 individual Glares that all didn't crit. The chance that at least one of 4 individual casts crit compared to one is also much higher as opposed to one single big cast. A single cast just crits or doesn't crit, there's no in between. Multiple casts are more consistent and less off a coinflip.
Thin air optimally can be used on your first glare cast, medica 2 -> if prog leave one for raise. otherwise use it on medica 2/cure3. and just try and not cap. Even if you don't have a thin air for raise. if you are using it on medica2+ its value, and as long as you press Lucid on CD and use lilies, you should legit never run outta mana unless you are afk spamming medica 2 :3 BUT i will always and forever recommend this! FOR NEW FIGHTS BUY MP POTS!!!!!!!!!!! You never know
Man.. I subbed because you used FF11 music. I miss that game but just doesn’t feel the same anymore I quit in 2020 to play ff14. Been playing FF11 since 2004
Another great video from you! As before, nothing really left unsaid that wouldn't be quiiiite minor or extra nuanced. Uhh...instant tick when placing asylum I guess maybe? ~ Thank you for suggesting people play it decently safe for prog - mechanics come first and healer damage skyrockets after, it's pretty much always how it goes when the rest have gotten into enough of a rhythm that you're not constantly spot-healing~ And thank you more for the Airship Hilda Garde outro music c: Okay, I'm out. Time to go miss a dia-reapplication again and hit myself in the face 20 seconds later. Keep the wonderful content coming!
As a dirty edgy reaper main, ive been looking to branch out for those ex clears when all the melee spots are taken. Thanks for the guide. Cute lala as well.
appreciate that :) if you need any encouragement, i’d say that it isn’t as bad as it seems. healers are always in demand for savage and people tend to be quite patient with people learning it. if anything though, you’ll probably be healing too MUCH at first, not too little. worst case scenario, you wipe! this tier is pretty fun for healing, so give it a go :D
On P8S Savage. I changed after 2 kills from DPS to WHM, cause of loosing a player.. Didnt played Heal on trails since ARR.. Holy. Savage Healing is very fun and we got the kills. but my dmg wasnt that good i wanted to. I had most of your infos in mind befor looking. but there is always new Stuff to learn. On max classes you didnt realy play on focus. There are a lot of skills you didnt notice right. or simply miss understood. So i didnt realice the Heal increase from Asylum. I think i wasted it sometimes realy hard. Second, the Bell. I was always confused of the "hit" part in the Description. So did i unsterstand right, that the whm have to take dmg for the trigger?
While I completely agree with the DPS increase for spending Lilies outside of raid buffs and casting the payoff nuke inside the buff window, I do want to note the "what's more likely to crit?" opening to the topic is misleading as heck. Yes, it's more likely for one cast to crit than 4 individual casts all critting, but it's also more likely for one cast to *not* crit than 4 individual casts to all not crit. It averages out to the same thing, so it's purely the raid buff window that squeezes that sweet sweet efficiency out of the system. I have used Cure I usefully, but they are incredibly funky situations where I need a single target heal, saving oGCDs/Lilies for a heal check (or recently used them for it), a need to keep moving, and Regen won't do enough in time. VERY limited situations and I'm pretty sure it means I'm desperately compensating for someone else's problem. I love the point on overheal during prog. Your Glare casts mean nothing until you can hit enrage except to practice which mechanics you can slidecast into position for. All in all, excellent video. Would be curious to know your position on using Regen since that is my (and I'm sure many WHMs) go to spell for single target healing if more damage isn't coming out immediately. I have a questionable habit of saving Tetra so I can use it alongside a Lily to act as a ghetto Bene for non-tanks.
Personally, as a WHM main, I want to say that this is a great video. I think your point on using Lilies as a movement tool is really understated and there are a couple of points that maybe you might want to reconsider. Firstly, timing a Blood Lily for a 2 minute buff window is a great point, but it's not as valuable as ensuring that you have 100% Uptime. Blood Lily's value is proportional to the amount of Glare casts as you had mentioned. However, the real calculus around it is actually Blood Lily / 4 Glares + Missed Glares = GCD Damage Value. 4 Glares + 0 Missed Glares is obviously the goal, but if you missed a single Glare leading up to your Blood Lily usage, the value of Blood Lily goes down. You're better off using any and all Lilies around movement and repositioning because you want to end a fight with near 100% Uptime. Let's say you do get 100% Uptime and you time your Blood Lily which results in a buffed crit Afflatus Misery, that is absolutely a damage gain but you have to ensure you have 100% Uptime which essentially means that 100% Uptime is significantly more important than timing. Secondly, overcapping Lilies is actually not problematic in the slightest. An overfed Blood Lily is a problem because again, it's actually Blood Lily / 4 Glares + 0 Missed Glares. An overfed Blood Lily is a missed Glare for every over feed you do. Let's say you do an entire fight without using a single Lily, but you had 100% Uptime and didn't have to cast any GCD heals. There was nothing lost or gained so there isn't actually really a downside to overcapping your Lilies. If Afflatus Misery had a damage gain, then yeah, you want to use your Lilies without overcapping, but since it's neutral, overcap all you want. It's fine. In regards to your Bell, use it whether you take damage or not. You can just trigger it at 5 Charges for a 1000 Potency AoE heal. While you do lose out on an additional 1000 Potency heal off of triggering each charge on hit, it's another passive healing tool that can be used to cover for Medica II so that you don't have to use a GCD heal and it's MP free. You can do Rapture -> Bell -> Rapture -> Bell Trigger as a setup to do basically a raid wide Full Heal while moving for 0 MP. A side note: WHM and SGE are the only 2 of the 4 healers that have movement tools that doesn't result in a damage loss when their entire kit is available to them. WHM is also the only healer that has a DoT that does damage on hit. Eukrasian Dosis, Bio and Combust only applies a DoT. Aero/Dia actually does damage on hit AND additionally applies a DoT. So at lower levels, if you have to move and don't have the time to slide cast Glare/Stone, casting Aero/Dia to be able to move is a viable option only if Afflatus Misery is not available at that level.
Some great points :) Uptime is undeniably the most valuable/important goal, and there ARE fights for sure where adjustments to your Lily timings mean a slight mana inefficiency is worth holding (P7S inviolate purgation comes to mind). That said, the Lilys aren’t TRULY damage neutral because of the current raid buff meta, as the bit about “moving” glares into raidbuffs via Lilys is actually a flat gain. Overcapping briefly for movement is 100% valid, but just sitting on 3 Lilys for more than 20 seconds (when you would have had another) is a plain waste. Very good point on Bell not being “useless” without procs though, because for sure the 1000p is still very solid, but I also think in Abyssos especially there are a LOT of opportunities to get the full 2000p, so ideally people factor that into their mit plan. Of course, if you’re losing usages of it because you’re holding for the 2000p dream, that’s a waste and you can find a less-optimal place to put it. Again though, great comment and analysis! 😄
theres also more chance of 0 crits when you cast 1 spell compared to 4. the math isn't really correct there. the average damage should be the same. though it is still good, just because it lets you do more dmg during buffs.
Honestly, I hate WHM, it always makes me sleepy when playing and it has no attractive for me This video came in a good time bc it gave me the motivation I needed, thank you!
I've developed a bad habit of using Dia in those moments where I'm like HOLY SHIT I HAVE TO MOVE, GO GO GO. I know it's optimal to time your movement between Glare casts. In an emergency, how terrible is it to have to sprint somewhere fast and refresh Dia as you're running, just to follow the "always be casting!" principle? I know it's technically a dps loss over properly timed glares, but even the 60 potency is better than casting nothing at all, right?
100% better than nothing at all-like you said, Dia is the ONLY healer DoT with an application damage, and so it isn’t awful to press if you need to fill the GCD. Doing nothing is definitely worse. That said of course, it isn’t GREAT. We’ve all done it, but ideally you should think about when/where it’s happening on a fight, then next pull try to rearrange your Lilys or your Swiftcast to have something else there instead. And of course, slidecasting is your friend. If you can figure out where you need to go for a mechanic in advance, you can just slide over inch by inch in between Glares!
I feel like there should be a little aside when talking about learning to play in Savage content, particularly if said content has been out for some time. As most players will have pieces/be BiS by this pojnt, the damage check for healers isn't as strict and, as such, will allow those learning any healer more leniency to use GCD heals as they prog through fights. Yours truly The tank who cringes when they need to over mit tank busters and the follow up DoTs while the healers are at full MP.
Therefore:
The expected value of casting Glare is (100 * 0.85) + (150 * .15), or 107.5.
Even as a WHM only player that has delved a little in savage content, there were still a lot of valuable advice here. This was awesome!
Elusive self-pin, but someone pointed out I didn't go a lot into RAISING:
1) White Mage, despite having Thin Air, is kind of low on the raising priority list because its GCD spam (Glare) has one of the highest potencies of any healer, meaning others lose less by sending out the rez.
2b) In case I'm in a group like PF or duty finder where there isn't voicechat, I also have this handy Swiftcast macro:
/micon Swiftcast
/p Swiftcast ready in
Essentially, you press it and it reports your exact CD left on Swift, e.g., "Swiftcast ready in 0:13." It's a good way of letting people know you either can or can't rez, because I don't personally care for rez macros.
@@tenkokuugen Agree with this also. It’s a free rez, esp if my cohealer is struggling or they need resource to shield, or mitigate incoming dmg.
Thats amazing!! thank you.
2) Ah yes, the eternal struggle of "do I trust my party to NOT fuck up this mechanic we've done a million times at this point" xD
The gamble NEVER pays off in my experience =_= It's like they see you using Swift and then immediately fuck up just to spite you 😂
Would think WHM is #1 on rezzing pecking order, swiftcast Thin Air rezz, an instant free rez even better than even rdm in that case.
This 100% 🎉
Sadly it for sprouts and non-healers doing this comes off as being lazy no healing healer too dps heavy...when its actually just playing smart under the surface level
At the same time, healer DPS does not really matter in normal^^
@@kurhooni5924 I think it does because people don't wanna be stuck in sastasha all day. Just because the bosses won't literally wipe you for it doesn't mean you should intentionally waste peoples time by holding back on dps. It also makes healing more satisfying.
@@Zadamanim Yeah so now, after years being roasted by dumb ppl who always blame the heal for not healing, theywill also be roasted for not doing enouth dps ><
i could get it in end game content, but in normal dungeon, with a sprout, i just let them play and discover the game...
WHM main here, thank you for the guide
I find a lot of people put down healing as "too easy" but then refuse to play healer because it's stressful.
Wow the RDM in those UWU clips is very handsome
As a DRK main, the Living Dead rework was such an amazing QoL change
Friendship ended with the healer, now myself is my best friend
as a healer, the joy is mutual - for everyone except whm, panic dumping heals into a drk’s health bar (but not too much, otherwise they LOST THE INVULN 😅) was um, Interesting.
you guys are more than welcome to be honorary warriors as far as i’m concerned.
You can still die as DRK (especially if you run the 2.5 GCD BiS). Keep in mind you may still need a minor heal.
@@specstreTV it made early EW interesting when everyone was trying Sage... "you don't want to be bucketing water"
I've seen DRKs as confident as you drop to LD, when boss pieces out or becomes untargettable.
As a very experienced tank/dps raider but very, very baby healer this was a really cool video to watch. Fun to kinda see the thought process of a healer and definitely picked up on tricks for when I do want to take whm into harder content.
with your experience, i’m sure you’ll have no problem doing high end content on whm!
ty for the kind words :)
thanks for the guide, very helpful! also love the little details you added, including the pop up tool tips and diagrams floating around + the chalk writing noises @ 2:24 (i thought i was going insane). looking forward to the next video
The way you structure your guides has been really useful to me. For me this is best white mage guide, Thanks a lot!
Sorry for the very late reply - glad it helped, and appreciate the support a lot :)
thank u for the white mage guide ! this will be very helpful for my future and has inspired me to fix my damn bars
just started playing whm after playing the other healers, so i needed this. great vid btw
As it is, Medica 1 is a SLIGHTLY better option if the party is > 10 y apart but < 15 y AND you have 900/1800/2700 MP exactly, such that Medica 2 casts don't work out (more than 2700 and it honestly doesn't matter)
There are some quirks like that.
.
Only issue with this is using a GCD verse oGCD ^ but if you need movement with no lily/swift available its better then nothing
That Windurst theme at the beginning got me feeling like playing ffxi again!
The wings buff not being a global heal increase is a new bit of info I have never heard, glad I watched.
I'm so happy to see you're still doing these! Your Sage video came out right around the time I was thinking about dipping my toes into that job, and it really helped me from pure healer to barrier healer.
I do hope you'll do more of this in the future! (especially Astro, jkjk unless unless 🥺) As a healer main, I'm really enjoying your top quality healer content
thank you!! ❤️
i am, though the job guides/analyses are definitely harder on me in terms of workload than the goofy fact/trivia videos. i do like making them though, so expect to see one pop up every now and then! :D
I’m looking to get into raiding and I definitely felt overwhelmed with AST just doing dungeons. So I’m going to focus on WHM. Great guide
Thanks this was really helpful! WHM was the last heal I leveled to 90 and want to play 6.5 as whm, les go :)
The Windurst music was an awesome touch. Thanks for that!
Was surprised to spot the Windy music in the background :D
Thank you so much for this guide. I got kicked out of two statics (Despite telling them I was new to healing savage) and felt so down that I was a horrible WHM. This actually helped me better understand where I can improve and look forward to next raid tier to put the practice I'm going to do on EX trials into action. Quick question for you, will you be making a SCH guide like you did SGE? The SGE guide was actually how I found your channel and would love guides on the other healers. You put just the right amount of information in without causing overload.
i appreciate the kind words!! :D
that sucks you had some bad experiences, usually people are kinder to beginning healers. seems like you have an absolutely kickass attitude though-perseverance and not getting discouraged is literally 95% of the struggle in learning anything, especially FF pve.
i’m glad to hear that some of the stuff here was useful, but if you’re serious about learning some more, i am once again shilling for the Balance discord. the WHM stuff (and really general healer stuff) they have in there is top tier.
from attitude alone i’ll say you’ll probably be able to clear if you can just find the right fit w/ a group :D
as for the SCH guide - maybe. the class guides take me quite a lot longer to make even when i know the jobs well, and sch/ast are my weakest two healers. i’d want to really wrap my head around some of their modern nuances before i felt comfortable teaching others even the basics. it’s not a no, but a “maybe SoonTM.”
glhf out there :D
"I will rescue you off the arena" that threat there. I understand it now that I've been playing FFXIV for over a year. It's actually terrifying.
Great video. Also I liked the Windurst music in the background.
Hey specstre ! Having seen a few of your guides and the amount of effort and quality that goes behind them, I wanted to ask if you're maybe planning to release an AST guide in the future ? Thanks in advance !
thank you very much for the kind words :D
as for an AST guide, maybe?? I like AST a lot and HAVE played it a bit this tier, but I’m still a bit rusty at it and haven’t really clicked with the Endwalker changes.
the bigger issue though is that they’ve already announced another MAJOR rework for 7.0, so part of me is hesitant to cover its current iteration.
of course, 7.0 is like, a year out, so no guarantees! i still might.
@@specstreTV it'd be amazing if you did ! A year is a LONG time anyway :P
@@rockidayo LOL, very true - well, maybe I will then :)
Excellent guide and you got me with the music. I was like is that Windy? lol
I love that the cnj story is about a girl that wants to be healer but refuses to do dps lmao
i will definitely consider it, but i’ve spent most of this tier on whm. i have clears on all the other healers too, but they’re not quite as optimized as my whm.
if i play them a bit more and feel more confident in my authority to teach them, i’d love to make similar videos though, so we’ll see :)
Thank you so much for this video! Planning to switch back from AST and found this very helpful
I need a guide for AST one i find that ast is the most "safe" healer between pure healers, whm is more like for emergency.
thank you for your lovely tips teacher ❤I shall be best white mage now
the last song is titled Aboard the Hilda Garde
do you have a guide or a set up for your hotbars? im new to healing and i really like how you have it set up!
Thank you for this!! I'm a Scholar main in hard content and I'm just leveling WHM now so I have a pure healer when the Shield Healer slot is taken, and I was anxious about the time I get to Level 90 because I didn't know how to play the two jobs differently ;w;
I promise, if you’re comfortable with SCH, WHM will feel just fine :)
Just gotta play with it a bit and get comfortable with all its tools, but they’re all quite simple and you don’t have to worry about any fairy shenanigans or aetherflow decisions.
Wait, the Conjurer's job quest was also a meta narrative about how healers also need to do DPS?!
I love this and I beg of you for a similar guide to Astro
i must say this was quite an interesting guide, as someone who just recently joined a static as the pure healer (and more or less against my own personal opinionated will, used to find WHM so boring that i never saw myself touching it after i got it to 90) currently as WHM(main job is SGE but the shield healer spot was already filled by another SGE sooo pure healer it is) so this is something i will try to atleast keep in mind as we slowly but surely prog trough the savage raids.
i wish you guys the best of luck :)
whm IS “boring” in terms of its flavor/design/mechanics compared to, say, ast, but there’s plenty to learn and maximize, and it’s very satisfying to hit a 90k afflatus misery!
Yay, new vid from Specstre. Day got better!
Similar delayed effect point stands for nearly all offgcds heals/shields. Too many times healing happens before damage hits, but then people with 53k hp end up in the grave from 32k dmg raid wide. Where in the exact same situation GCD heals can be even closer to the damage event, but simply work.
Thanks for the information im a up and coming white mage
FFXI Windurst Theme? Let's go
Hey there! Thanks for the video. I main tank but I want to give healing a try too. What happens to snapshots when the dsmage is done after several seconds when the cast ends? Think about Ravening or Silkspit. Does it still mitigate those attacks even if the debuff is over before you are hit?
Thanks again for the video and take care!

this video was SO helpful, thank you so much!
for sure, all this stuff transfers to easier content too, and so long as you’re not like, dry spamming cure 3 or running a literally max spellspeed-melded set, you should notice your mp usage flatten considerably if you’re keeping lucid up, using Lilys properly, and Thin Airing the expensive stuff :)
Superb guide with distractingly good glamours.
have to mention it takes a GCD or so for confession to apply to everyone. so if you hit plenary>rapture it may not hit everyone with that plenary buff too. (something ive noticed while healing) So ill always tell them to hit plenary>glare>rapture instead to be 100% sure you get the rapture fully buffed in there.
Very cool and very informative vid.
Keep it up.
Are you planning to do the same with other healers? Im an AST main and would definetly like to see your take on optimization for it!
Ngl i never knew cure 3 worked like a macro'd sacred soil. Thank u for this video. I main sch and sage and am learning whm
The only question is this: Why did you use the Windhurst music for your opener! Great content.
tarutaru white mage conspiracy
Thank you for suggesting people play it decently safe for prog - mechanics come first and healer damage skyrockets after, it's pretty much always how it goes when the rest have gotten into enough of a rhythm that you're not constantly spot-healing~ And thank you more for the Airship Hilda Garde outro music c:
Okay, I'm out.
GREAT Video Whm is my Fav Pure Healer
appreciate that :)
if you need any encouragement, i’d say that it isn’t as bad as it seems. healers are always in demand for savage and people tend to be quite patient with people learning it. if anything though, you’ll probably be healing too MUCH at first, not too little.
worst case scenario, you wipe! this tier is pretty fun for healing, so give it a go :D
What are the best priority stats for a WHM
crit is so important on healer that my whm (esp whm) stats always make sure to get as much crit with materia that i can
what gshade preset is that? it looks really nice
Witch’s Moon for Gameplay Alt :D
Great guide. Thanks!
thank you!! :D
I know its an older video, but you can say and its almost instant
Great video. I’m a pretty good WHM & this is all really good advice for new ones!!
Presence of mind is Walmart cleric stance.
It’s been years, but I still grieve.
poor healer dps... rest in peace.
Cool video, gj and thanks
I actually didnt know cure 3 can be targeted im always learning about this game
The FF11 theme and your Lala reminds me of Shantotto, ohohohohohoho
Some great points :)
Uptime is undeniably the most valuable/important goal, and there ARE fights for sure where adjustments to your Lily timings mean a slight mana inefficiency is worth holding (P7S inviolate purgation comes to mind).
Nice video, you freaking gremlin!!!!!
Alright, i'll insta-like your video just for the Windurst music alone X3
I need youre outfit right now !!! What is it ??
theres also more chance of 0 crits when you cast 1 spell compared to 4. the math isn't really correct there. the average damage should be the same. though it is still good, just because it lets you do more dmg during buffs.
When in doubt,
Medica 2.
Honestly, I hate WHM, it always makes me sleepy when playing and it has no attractive for me
This video came in a good time bc it gave me the motivation I needed, thank you!
WHM savage clearer here, very good video, everything is said !!
Juste one last thing : PLEASE HEALERS DO NOT GREED !
=)
but the greed… it calls to us all…
While Cure 1 is definitely the worst, its a good idea to keep it on your hotbar if you end up in lower level dungeons and can't use cure 2
I have the same Vault tunic glam nice
Can you do one on Black Mage, please!!! I'm terrible at BLM
Yours truly
The tank who cringes when they need to over mit tank busters and the follow up DoTs while the healers are at full MP.
Boy - I've been playing WHM wrong for all 90 levels xD
Lalafell is soo cuteeeeee
Do one for Astrologian plzzzzz
WHM belike: I'm --green-- dps, please adjust
Lucious Rapids
I left whm behind for sage. This video helps me remember how to pure heal.
