  • Begone, headaches! Sage is an easier job than it seems. Let's go over why, covering its full toolkit and potential in both casual and competitive content. This guide aims to familiarize both beginner and intermediate players with both SGE and general healing principles and, while focused on more introductory-level stuff, does dip into some advanced concepts.
    There are NO MSQ SPOILERS in this video, but MINOR CONTENT ones due to the dungeons and trials used for footage. I did consciously avoid anything too blatant, though.
    All game knowledge is current as of Patch 6.2 in FFXIV Endwalker!
    Chapters:
    0:00 Intro + Basic Explanation of Guide

    "Easier Than You Think"
    My mind went numb half way through this.
    Not saying the guide was bad, it's the shortest and most concise one I've ever seen. But I don't see how anyone could find this easy.

      Honestly, 90% of Sage is throwing Kardia on your tank and using Dosis over and over again with E. Diagnosis to mitigate raidwide damage. 5% is throwing out extra instant heals when you need to and throwing up party wide damage mit like Kerachole. The last 5% is the Raid level knowledge you need to perfect the job.
      Casual content Sage is pretty damn simple. Endgame Sage can get a bit complicated, but its similar to cycling damage mit on a tank....instead you're cycling healing/shields....on the tank.

  • @KattReen
    @KattReen Год назад +144

    Sage is a very well designed healer, but a lot of people find it scary since you don't really get powerful "Oshit!" buttons lol. You need to plan things out a little bit(at first that is, it quickly becomes habit). Feels super powerful once you figure it out, tanks in lvl 90 dungeons barely drop in health at all even though you're mostly just standing there having a laser rave party in the middle of the band of baddies waiting for the right moment to press the next OGCD. Once you learn what the spells do and which ones work well together it's a very easy class to play efficiently

    • @specstreTV
      @specstreTV  Год назад +10

      Good point about the lack of "oh shit" buttons-closest thing is Zoe+Pneuma, but that's not super reliable given the 2m CD on Pneuma (and it being only available at 90). But yeah, I totally agree that it's a job with a high initial learning curve that VERY quickly flattens out and becomes super simple once you know which lego goes where.

    Lmao you're completely right about SGE's simplicity - I agree that a common misconception is that it's the hardest healer to play. Anyway, as a SGE main, lovely vid! I just want to add a tip for dungeoning once you hit 86: Krasis (on the tank) > Physis II > Kerachole > Haima/Panhaima. By routinely starting with Krasis every pull, you increase the efficacy of the following heals (as well as Kardia and whatever else you use), making keeping the tank alive during a wall 2 wall much easier. Krasis should usually be off cool down by the next pull, allowing you to lead with it again consistently.

    ideally in trash pulls you should be starting with krasis before physis. you would buff your physis regen ticks, then once kera is up its buffed by both krasis and physis. that plus haima/panhaima and kardia is usually enough for most trash pulls at 90. dont sleep on krasis, as it has 60 second recast just like physis and thus can always be used once per trash pull since trash pulls generally take about 60 seconds each.

    TBH, for me, Holos and Panhaima always felt like the weirdest skills because you want to use them when the party takes damage multiple times to get max effect and that just doesn't happen all that often outside of dungeon healing tanks during big mob pulls.

    • @specstreTV
      @specstreTV  Год назад +5

      I totally understand. The heal part of Holos is really terrible from a “spell identity” point of view, since the other two parts (%mit and shield) encourage proactive use, especially if you want to snapshot a DoT on a raid AoE or something.
      It sucks, but sometimes I just ignore the heal part. However, there are definitely fights (especially this tier) where you have relatively quick but separate instances of raid damage back to back, and Holos can really shine there.

    • @ArborusVitae
      @ArborusVitae Год назад +2

      You honestly don’t need to get max value out of every use, as long as the use is saving you from needing to GCD heal and you’ll have it up for the key moments of a fight. Like using Panhaima for the limit cut near the start of P6S. You won’t get anywhere close to full value out of it, but the small shield and then heal when it falls off will basically top people off before the next mechanic in combo with something else minor like an Assize or Ixochole or whatever and it’ll be back up again before you want it for something like Cachexia 1.

      @KnownRed Год назад +1

      In my experience I p much exclusively use Holos as either a panic button or as Kerachole is falling off before another big hit. Kera's regen is usually enough to bring people back after a one-time raid wide but if its multiple the heal on Holos really works perfect. Also when you're looking for it there are spots in duties that seem almost made for panhaima. Several EW lvl90 duties have raidwides that hit 5-6 times almost specifically for this (final boss of Troia and 3rd boss of Euphrosyne specifically come to mind). Squenix has made sure that sage has stuff to actually throw these abilities at and for that i'm thankful lol

    Really good guide ! SGE was my first healer, as I was never motivated to push through the low-level experience of the 3 others. Loved it, and leveled every other to 90 ; as much as I like them, Sage is one step above for me. Might be because I play tank a lot, but all the instant casts, weaving, mitigation and zipping around will never not feel good. I think they did a fine job on the "damage-focused healer" fantasy they were advertising.

    • @specstreTV
      @specstreTV  Год назад +4

      This is awesome! I actually totally agree that SGE is probably the easiest sell to other role mains-even though it seems a little busy at first, that's part of the draw. Once you learn where everything goes, even roughly, things REALLY click and the job just feels nice.
      Also, big agree on Icarus-any time I play another heal now, I just feel so slow...

    A note about Rhizomata: if you use it when having 2 stcks of Addersgal, your timer towards the next stack will reset and stop, meaning that's lost time generated into a stack. This could potentially lead to a lost Addersgall if not propely managed.
    Thus, ensure that you have only 1 (or 0!) stacks to avoid timer generation loss before using Rhizomata.

    First duty I took Sage into via Duty Finder wound up being Orbonne Monastery, and despite my initial expectations (I usually run Orbonne as a RDM), I did better than I expected. Especially considering the fact that our other healer (a WHM) was completely new to the raid and running it blind, so I wound up having to do they heavy lifting as Healer to boot. The only real problem we had was Thunder God, as the second time Cleansing Strike happened, the WHM didn't know that it was a Heal check due to Doom, and despite my best efforts to do *ALL* of the healing, it wasn't enough to stop Cleansing Strike from killing us. At that point I sort of became our Alliance's "lead" healer (though I'd made it clear going in that it was my first time running the Raid as any sort of Healer and that I usually run a DPS Job), despite my overall lack of experience as a Healer in 24-man raids, and we did quite well. That one hiccup with Cleansing Strike was the only real issue our Alliance had, as even though our WHM died at least once against every single boss, I was quick to get them back up (though in retrospect I probably could have just left them, since we also had a RDM with us, I probably could have hoped our RDM would save me the trouble of reviving our WHM).
    Probably wasn't the smartest move on my part to choose *ORBONNE MONASTERY* as my first "serious" test of the Sage, particularly with me not being 100% familiar with the Job yet, but it still worked out better than I expected. :P

    I still have so much to learn on Sage! But at least I do well enough to heal people through ShB dungeons and trials. I’m far from optimized but it’s a process to get there. I’ve only been playing Sage intensively for maybe about a month or so now, and not yet in Endwalker dungeons or trials as I’m mostly playing roulettes together with my boyfriend and a couple of sprouts from the FC (and the latter are In Stormblood now) but should be running some Endwalker content soon with my boyfriend as his current job is at lvl 82 now. Sage is really a lot of fun, and when you run alone like doing fates or something, it’s really an all in one job as you do pretty good DPS (I can easily hit some 14K with Dosis in Ultima Thule), you can heal any damage you take, and you can really take a beating and a half thanks to Kardion and Eukrasian diagnosis so you’re basically a one person army who’s laughing your ass off at the “0” damage from big enemy attacks. I intentionally stay in danger zones a lot of the time in fates on my Sage both for laughs and to break my barrier so I build up the stacks so I can use Toxicon.
    The other day I got invited to a party in Thavnair where me and a couple of randoms ran fates together and I ran together with a dancer and summoner and it was just super smooth along with no fatalities on my watch (I don’t think the enemies agree there though)
    I now consider myself a Sage main and I intend on learning it enough to run more than just daily roulettes on it. FC has Bozja planned and I shall be healing there (by choice)
    I am however pretty stuck with Eukrasian diagnosis and the AoE version of it, along with physis, kerachole and ixo, maybe because in most content I have been running this far, I just don’t have access to the fancy stuff like haima or panhaima etc due to level sync. I need to get better at using the whole kit and when to use stuff

      As for relying on GCDs-it's totally fine while you're getting comfortable. Whatever keeps the group up! But as you unlock more tools and get familiar with them, you'll definitely realize you don't need the Eukrasian heals that often. They of course have their place, but Holos, Kera, Ixo, Physis, etc. are all SO STRONG. Just experiment a bit! If you find a button you haven't been pressing (say, Krasis when you unlock it, or Soteria at lower levels), press it and just try to feel out what sort of difference it makes. I practically guarantee you you'll notice it, and then it'll help you place them together like, "OK, this is a BIG IMPACT ability, this one is small. I can link these together, then when they're up, use ANOTHER big impact and small impact together after."
      Trust me, when you get into some later dungeons especially, you'll start to adapt! :D

I've been using Sage ever since it came out, it's definitely challenging since you need to understand the bells and whistles and this healer is a complete different mindset from the other healers IMO, you need to prevent instead of react. SCHs can rely on the fairy/seraph for potent heals without even moving a finger, SGEs don't (not a complain tho), it's incredibly fun to play, and very satisfying to spam lots of Toxikons :3

    Could you elaborate more on eukrasian diagnosis/prognosis usage? I understand as GCD healing they should not be used frequently if possible, but if you are needing to use them (especially in dungeons/leveling) should you only use eukrasian diagnosis for the prepull? Yes, technically they can be used on-the-move but the overall cast time is similar and the mana expenditure/efficiency is actually worse (diagnosis is 450 potency/400 mana, eukrasian diagnosis is 300+525 potency/900 mana). I left out the critical shield potency since that seems to happen rarely for me.

    • @lucalopez9604
      @lucalopez9604 Год назад +1

      Maybe the mana economy for non-eukrasia version is better, but do consider the GCD economy. Eukrasia diagnosis is almost double the healing than only 1 diagnosis, so what you would have needed 2 diagnosis to heal can only be done in 1 GCD. This not only let's you start DPS early (and by extend, healing with kardia) but it also might be the difference between surviving and whipping if the shit has hit the fan hard enough that you actually have to spam the thing, as you're healing more faster and normal diagnosis might not actually keep up or let you go back to a stable state where you can go back to DPSing.
      This also applies to the other healers. Cure 1 Benefic 1 and Physis should never be used if you have access to their upgraded version (cure 2, benefic 2 and adlo) unless things are SO BAD that there's a possibility you will run out of mana or you're doing MINE 50 content where some fights are really mean.

    • @specstreTV
      @specstreTV  Год назад +1

      Luca's kind of already gone into it, but essentially, while Eukrasian Diagnosis may only have a cure potency of 300 compared to regular Diag's 450, it also has that 180% shield and is an instant cast. If it's come down to a GCD heal like that, you probably value that immediacy more than a delayed heal that is not even that much effectively stronger because it doesn't have the shield.
      Also, regarding the rarity of the crits-at endgame, you will probably be melding for crit because it's helpful for damage too. I have 2214 crit, which effectively translates (according to josephwebber.ca/samples/FFXIV_Crit_Calculator/) into a ~24% crit chance. Roughly 1 in 4 odds of landing a MASSIVE shield and a good heal is not bad at all, especially since it's all instant.
      Regular Diagnosis spam MIGHT be the answer if you have NO resources, minimal mana, and really need a period of consistent throughput rather than a big burst, but... those are all pretty extraordinary conditions, as damage in FFXIV tends to be bursty rather than steady anyway.

It doesn't happen often, but whenever a tank is too squishy and I ran out of cds, I end up white mageing it because Kardia alone won't cut it, but because I stop dpsing altogether, Kardia's 'regen' stops too - It's a little inconvenient.

  • @kasperraskjensen1081
    @kasperraskjensen1081 Год назад

    I don't know if you can answer this. I love sage, but there is one particular part of the kit I can never seem to get the most out of and it is in fact Physis II.
    If I want to boost the HoT of Kerachole as I know a big aoe is inc, then I would have to use Physis II first BUT this means I lose at least 1 tick of it assuming everybody is near max health. That is the general theme, but it translates to most of the kit, as unless you cast Eukrasian shields you can only do 1 oGCd per GCD, hence I can never seem to pair Physis II in an optimal way.
    Do you have any suggestions for this?
    Also loved the vid, should probably have lead with that x3

    • @specstreTV
      @specstreTV  Год назад +1

      Really good question, I think I understand and can answer-you’re asking how you can weave both Physis and Kera together without clipping your GCD, right?
      This is actually an amazing usage for Toxikon and Phlegma. Toxikon being damage neutral (assuming we’re talking single target here) and instant cast means you can essentially save them for weaves and movement, so if you know a raidwide is coming up you can hold one and unless your ping is TRULY attrocious, you should be able to doubleweave on any full instant cast GCD.
      Phlegma works too since you can technically hold 1 charge of it at any time, but I recommend it slightly less because it might mess with your raid buff alignment if you’re at a level where you care about that.
      Lastly, if you have neither and you absolutely MUST MOVE for a mechanic, you could technically Dyskrasia on the boss and weave off that. It’s not ideal but it’s better than no GCD.
      Lastly LASTLY, spreading Physis and Kera out over two GCDs isn’t actually the end of the line. It’s really fight dependent, but you are unlikely to need the FULL regens from both in 90% of scenarios.
      Hope that helps, but if not, lmk!!
