- "Don't do side quests." Advice you've probably heard. Advice I, myself, have given out. But in that sea of yellow explanation points there are some that aren't complete garbage. Here are the side quests in A Realm Reborn that are actually worth your time to do.

If you haven't done the Moogle deliveries side-questline, you'll never be able to truly comprehend the motherly warmth that Sisipu radiates.
IIRC, there are two ARR side quests that reward thavnairian onions, which are used to level your chocobo, or (perhaps more importantly) sold for a lot of gil on the market
I believe those are Heavensward quests. I plan to do a Heavenward version of Side Quests worth doing. So I'll make sure to include those quests as well. Thanks for keeping an eye out.
Apparently I did those according to my journal and I have no clue what I did with the onions cause I didn’t know what they were for back then 🤦♂️
Landing a Stable Job from Mathye in the Pillars (after msq "The Better Half"), and one in Tailfeather after a bunch of Tailfeather side quests called A Hunter's True Nature from Hervoix.
By this point you're almost better off just making the gil and buying onions, or buying seeds and babysitting them every 6h or so in apartment flower pots.

It was one of the first side quest lines I specifically sought out, because I learned about the subligar. Lols.
I get that most prefer these were blue, but I always liked the feeling of stumbling on a side quest while trying to get some XP that went a bit extra and gave me a pleasant surprise. Feels like how side quests in other games worked where some lead you on a wild chase and surprise you with something crazy instead of marking "HEY THIS IS THE ONE WHERE YOU GET SOMETHING SKIP EVERYTHING ELSE"
Agreed. People should do some more stuff for fun and not be so reward focused.

I do sort of resent the blue quest system because it basically means there's tonnes of pretty good writing that lots of people will never see just because we're trained so hard to see "yellow quest = not worth doing". There's a whole questline in the Convictory in Western Coerthas that's really good and which I only stumbled upon because you have to do it to unlock the only way consistent to get the Deepeye Triple Triad card.

I remember doing the postmoogle quest at some time in the past long ago. The part where you get the "new class" went right over my head since I hadn't unlocked any new classes. I realized like years later what the joke was supposed to be
The thing is, if you _want_ to do all the sidequests, just do them. They fill out the world so much more and they'll make you feel really connected to the characters and people of the place you're visiting, and the main questline reflects this surprisingly often.
Yep I started taking this approach later on after following everyone’s advice to ignore all side quests up until the end of heavensward and feeing like I rushed it a bit. Now, during the story, if I’m interested in the area that I’m currently in I do all the side quests. It really does flesh it out so much more and increased my enjoyment and connection to the environments.

@@ogrimbothesour2976 Yes, but IIRC Azim Steppe also has the most side quests (blue and yellow) of any zone in the game by like 50+ quests or something. It's a doozy to get into and do them all.
ARR was designed with sidequests in mind, and It's honestly not as good if you just skip them all imo.

@@Splizacular Spending hundreds if not thousands of hours doing pointless side quest that offer no actual rewards is not something im looking to do i dont have time for that. doing quest i know give me rewards is what i have time for so yes i would like to not waste what little time i have. not all of us live in our moms basement playing 24/7.

Of course I learn about the lv 50 crafter materia after I just discarded all my materia to make inventory space.

I compulsively clear all quest icons I see. I can't help it. I DID however... sell all my materia before I knew better lol Doing my craft quests, I am now at the mercy of the market board lol Post Moogle is on my list, and I'm clearing all the extreme trials I come by. Definitely want the mounts now though. Also never knew the card game was in! Definitely have to track that down! Loved the nostalgia trip of just hearing that music though :')

You shall have it good sir. But be forewarned Heavensward side quests are far more complicated than ARR. So its going to take a bit more time.

Thanks for the followup about the Postmaster questline. I was rather nonplussed when I returned to Limsa and founf the Moogle gone or at least not visible to me. I thought it was a glitch. Nice to know there's more to it, though it would have been nice if SE had given a clue about it.
I will add that the followup quest involves weakening a level 29 spark, so if your job is higher than that you will one shot it and won't be able to complete the quest. Hopefully you will have a job that is at or below level 29.
Would a BLU's 1000 Needles do the trick for this, since you can deal either 1000, 500, 333, 250, 200, 167, 142, 125, 111, or 100 damage? (1000/x, x = number of enemies in AoE)
Nice resource to have all the side quests in one spot. And here I was thinking side quests where only worth doing to help level Blue Mage.
always save side quests for blue mage. just in case.
I disagree. Blue Mages get extra XP from killing mobs, so it's more efficient to grind rather than do the quests.

As a completionist, I did them all. Really expected some achievement, like Loremaster in WOW. Fact that I didn't still give me that horrible feeling of having missed one somewhere, somehow. (to forestall the inevitable: yes, I did THAT one, the one hidden inside the mansion of youknowwho for youknowwhat)

I actually enjoy doing every single side quest. But I see why most don’t. Yeah there are some hidden stuff it’s fun.
I literally did every side quest up until shadowbringers and I was like ugh I’ve had enough lol just MSQ time. I had to clear every map but I gave up.

Heavensward is in the works. The quest requirements are much more complex than ARR. And we will see from there.

I didn't know that about the Meteor Survivor ring! I'll go get it and rewatch/reply that quest.
I started doing side quests when I had the idea to hoard all my Gil pieces until I got to heavensward… and WOW they actually provide so much Gil, in coerthas central highlands there’s nearly 70k Gil you get NOT including the pieces you receive, it’s a good money maker for the start of a character!
It took me about a week to get through it all
I'm definitely going to get the cactuar minion and the ring.

I'm working on doing all the side quests on all the expansions. I don't know maybe it's the old MMO gamer in me, but I find doing them quite therapeutic.
I would add the following three quests, depending on your starting city
Population Control (Gridania)
The Rats in the Wharf (Limsa Lominsa)
In the Name of Science (Ul'dah)
This will reward you your very first head piece that will help you pass one of the early MSQ's that tells you to equip level 5 pieces to a couple of slots without having to go out of your way and buy it (and when you do your level 5 class quest, pick a different slot as your reward).
Another one is "When a Man Loves a Woman", because its quest marker is very close to where the special Behemoth FATE spawns, so it makes checking the map for this FATE when you do something else in the zone a bit easier.
I don't think that MSQ telling you to equip gear exists anymore tbh

@@capo3645 It definitely does. I'm making videos on the opening stories for each city and I've done that quest in two of them in the last month.
I like the side quests that award dyes.
I wish I had time to do more of them.

I'd done the postmoogle quests, but minions? Minions I don't have? Though it was actually the ring that caused me to pause the video and go get right away before continuing.

Hildibrand are not side quests, they are featured quests as shown by their blue icon. As for featured quest here is my advice:

I usually just do the side quests because I cant stand seeing the ! marks on my map.
I have nothing to do so I'm just grinding up my pugilist/monk and taking on all the side quests in the game until there's none left.
the blue ones are called Feature Quests? I always wondered that. I was calling them "unlocky quests" cause they unlock features

huh...am I the only mf that has a mental problem as unable to stand those yellow icons on the mini map? I DO SIDE QUESTS WITH MSQ DURING MY 1ST PLAYTROUGH, they give more immersion and lots of them complement MSQ.
Im right there with you...im doing my first play through and just like in any other RPG i HAVE to get all the quests done ill pick everything up in zonei hate having the icons pop up or notifications... i guess we're completionists
I have NO regrets doing every side quest there is to find. It's because of going through them all I'd get my friends asking me "where did you get that?".

It broke my heart to find out that there where no more Post Moogle Quests after ARR. But also yes the fact that you can't replay them stinks as well especially when the cutscenes aren't in your Unending Journey. Which made capturing this all the more harder.
Well this is a nice video but don’t help me at all since I am crazy and did all the side quests in every expansion so unless there were more added with each patch.
This is good, sadly most of side quests leave a lot to be desired that generally skip them.

They never disappear until you complete them, regardless of where you are in MSQ!

Nope, as it unlocks Trials I see why they made it blue. I have no idea why it is blue in Heavensward though, it didn't unlock anything.
@@ojosama it does unlock the mandeville relics for Endwalker, maybe thats why.
I never skipped side quests. Every bit of exp helped me level my multiple jobs. Also, I can't stand seeing the sea of markers mocking me every time I go back to an area.

I have this issue with the class quests that I can’t complete them even with the main quest

It's "La Know-sha", not "La Know-see-ya".
6:42, I think that's the first time I've heard it called soulbound, and I've been here since 1.0.
"The Greatest Story Never Told" if you like puzzles (there aren't any quest markers for it, you have to figure it out yourself; or cheat - shame on you).
Might do a follow up video including that quest, but without spoiling too much, I think you know why I didn't include it ;)
@@ojosama there are few more quests like that in all expansion (at least 3 in HW - brooms in Matoya's cave; 1 in Yanxia in SB; I think 1 or 2 in ShB - Pixies and Amh Araeng?; 1? in EW in Old Sharlayan).
@@gardianos Yup and that'd be the focus of the video, ones that don't have markers or give you help to complete them. But that's if I choose to do it.

Honestly, I do every quest I see just cuz I hate seeing a cluttered map.
I was told somewhat recently that it's pronounced "la noh-shah", which makes sense, I had been saying "la nossy". Your "la no see-a" is the same thing
I did every single one in the entire game. Every expansion. And I read all of the text. Get on my level
