    i picked this up today over the $119 model with 270 coverage.
    this will cover the back yard.
    i have the 180 led on the garage and it goes all the way out to the street. it enhances the security system.

    Since I don't have the wires coming out of the driveway wall, I cut one end of a industrial extension cord and connected the 3 wires to the plate and plug the other end to the wall. It works fine!

      Model Builder Greg Exactly. Since I didn't have wires through that wall I just attached new wires to the terminals and ran them back through the wall to a junction box.
      Entire install took under 30 minutes, including setting up the extension ladder.

    What’s nice about this light is how bright it is. Can be hooked up indoors, with a extension cord. Cut off the end hook wires into light. Mount light and plug it in to your outlet. Just a idea.

    I love this light but it just suddenly stopped working after a few months. I read the troubleshoot guide and it said a fuse may have blown or circuit breaker is off? would you know where in this light there's a fuse or are they referring to the old time fuse box? I've checked my circuit breaker and all is well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I noticed my light last night was on and would not go off. I checked the settings and read the manual again. The only thing that I could think was that MAYBE, it had something to do with the power going off during a general power failure in my neighborhood? The power wasn't off for long. When I looked on Page 9 of my instruction manual, I read, in regards to USING MANUAL MODE, That in order to TURN IN manual mode, you switch the power OFF at the wall switch for 1 to 3 seconds and then back on. My power was off for just a second or two when it went off. So, I am wondering if this reset the unit to manual mode? After reading this, it was about 11PM. I went out to the garage and flipped the power switch to OFF for a few seconds and then back ON. After 1 minute, the light turned OFF!

      This is what I want; for the light to turn off during the night, unless motion is detected. Like you I saw the MANUAL MODE on page 9 and tried it, but it's not working for me. Here's what I have for my light settings - ON TIME = 1 MIN, SENS = M, DUAL BRITE = OFF. Curious what you have for your light setting to get it go off at night when no motion is detected?

  • @1habicher

    I have not seen this in Melbourne, Australia but do like it and will keep a watch out for it. My simple M/S light is no where as good and I needed an Elctn. and still it comes on every few min. and I had to remove the globe and tell the Elctn. to come back but he has not. So it is useless!

    hi can we start from inside of the house and still using the sensor too,
    let's said if you are inside of the house and you want to turn it on from inside like a regular switch light, can it work in that way???

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  7 лет назад +1

      They make switch models, this one can be used with a switch also, the manual tells you how.

  • @nullumcorpus5621

    This is old but I hope you would still be able to help. I want the lights to turn off when there is no motion detected, does this (ON TIME=1 MIN, SENS = L, DUAL BRITE=OFF) look right? With this, I still have the lights stay on low throughout the night when no motion is detected. Did I misunderstand any of those settings?

    Mine worked good for about 6 months, now notice the sensor blinks all time and light stays on all time.. took it down to check it out, can't see any moisture in the sensor unit, but when i apply power the little red light continues to blink and the light stays on . can the sensor be replaced, is it worth it to replace the sensor.. this light was 100 bucks , don' expect them to last for ever but six months is a little short. could it be sensor failure. not finding much help on the net.

    • @hpiguy

      It has a warranty, grab the manual and your rcpt and see how long. I think mine was a year or more, HD website says many of these Defiant lights like this have a 5 year warranty.
      Take it back if it doesn't work.

    No one is saying if it can be eave-mounted, that is, with the base plate horizontal. most can. I have to take back my 2nd Defiant LED light with the 2 rectangular lights, 180 degree, another defective one. I might have better luck with this one.

    Can this light:
    1. Be hard wired to turn on and off at night as a wish
    AND
    2. Be used as a motion sensor security light at night

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  7 лет назад

      That's what this light is, a motion light that can also function as a dusk to dawn light if you want.
      This can be wired to a switch if you wish, just like any other motion light.

    • @andrewwatson1642
      @andrewwatson1642 7 лет назад +1

      The thing is, I don't want dusk till dawn feature on. I would ideally want the light to be motion sensor only. OR if I want to use the light when having people over at night, I can just turn it on and off. Is this possible?

    Instructions only show if there is one black & one white wire (plus ground wire) but what if I have two black and two white wires coming out of the wall?

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  4 года назад

      You join all three black (two in the wall, one on the light) together and all three white together with the wire nuts.

    • @kevinslater568
      @kevinslater568 4 года назад

      @@hpiguy on the Model DFI-5988 there is no black or white wires that come from the light. The fixture I am replacing had one of each. And how would all three wires fit in the Terminal block?

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  4 года назад +1

      Just to protect myself if you burn down your house trying to install this, I highly recommend that if you aren't able to determine which wire is neutral and which is hot, and can't strip the wire to add a wire nut instead of the terminal block for your six wire install, you shouldn't be installing this light yourself.
      The manual will tell you what wires on the light are hot, and neutral.
      The basic terminal blocks are there for simple three wire installs. Anything else will have to be fitted by the end user.
      I recommend calling an electrician so that you don't short something and cause a fire.

    Question. I have an LED motion activated light and it stays on constantly. According to the manual, this can be caused by the light being installed on the same circuit as a fluorescent bulb, which I do have on the circuit. Why is this so? Is LED light that sensitive? I don't have any issues with motion activated incandescent lights on the same circuit as fluorescent bulbs.
    I'd like to get this light. Does this light have the same issue? Can you check the manual?
    Thanks

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  8 лет назад

      +Methodical2 Fluorescent lights run at a frequency that can confuse light counters and such. Maybe that is the issue with these LEDs. I'm not sure. That is a conundrum only an electrical engineer could answer.
      I have fluorescent lights in my garage but they are not on the same circuit.
