    • @matthewyip8695
      @matthewyip8695 Год назад +19

      @julian , you don't need to know loss to understand how after watching many court cases on court TV or other law apps to start to understand the court system and process. There are specific rules, procedures and boundaries that each part of the court case is followed. The judge is the one who facilitates this process. In this case, the defendant defended himself and the judge being respectful and professional when this defendant interrupted , delayed , or disruptive behavior during the case was very disturbing. She handled it well. That is why I agree with Lauren Christie on this. If you watch the mass murder shooting case, the judge there was not professional or respectful and although the defendant already pleaded guilty... The sentencing process was filled with unprofessional behavior by lawyers and judge. So it's an opinion but using the court procedure as a measure. She made a clean court record that showed she gave the defendant his chances to defend himself, etc... Not all judges would have went to those lengths for patience with that disruptive behavior.

    • @SamWesting
      @SamWesting Год назад +69

      @Tech After allowing Darrell Brooks to ramble on & on about himself for 2 hours w/o once apologizing & holding himself accountable, the victims were more than entitled to applaud the life sentence pronouncements. I think it “unprofessional” of you to make your comment w/o taking in the factors that occurred before the judge’s pronouncement.

    • @matthewyip8695
      @matthewyip8695 Год назад +19

      @@laughingman630 the issue is is that Wisconsin isn’t a death penalty state so there is nothing the judge or jury could have done. This is the next best thing and considering that he has a criminal history going back over 20 years I say “good riddance”. He wanted the jury to believe due to his mental issues and his car issues he wasn’t at fault. His behavior in the courtroom was awful. I don’t think he will have an easy time in prison especially since he killed an 8 year old and injured many other children. He will be at the bottom of the totem pole in the prison inmate food chain. He is also a big time narcissist who cares only about himself. I doubt the guards and other inmates will want to be around him. He tried to run over his GF a few weeks before this incident as well. Like someone else mentioned somewhere I hope the judge issues the Son of Sam order where any money he makes from a job will go straight to restitution which means no candy, sodas, tv, etc. Hopefully the other inmates will make his life a living hell and with his attitude I think they will. Plus he is pretty infamous at the moment and I can’t see him trying to keep his head down. He cries that everything is so unfair. How he was treated by the court and so on has all been unfair when he unfairly took the lives of 6 people including a child. That’s unfair! He injured how many? Some will have chronic pain for life! That’s unfair! Even more people than that will have PTSD including the victims that were injured as well as spectators and families of the victims. Hopefully someone in prison will have him as their “special project”. With his attitude and not being able to shut his mouth I’m sure he won’t have an easy stay. Too bad he didn’t do this in TX. I’m sure they would have given him the death penalty. The state I live in has the death penalty and are not shy in performing executions here in FL!

    Some people think it's silly to add each sentence when one life sentence should be enough. Not only does it give each victim a voice, it also ensures that one sentence doesn't get thrown out and void the entire duration of his imprisonment.
    Yeah he could spend several years appealing and trying to get a retrial, but even if he gets a conviction tossed out, he still has several dozen other charges that will stick and ensure he rots in prison. There's no way he's getting out from behind bars. Each sentence pushed him further and further into an unescapable abyss. And that's right where he should be.

I think the sentences she handed down were largely correct. I would have liked her to have ordered that his commissary is garnished until, or unless he has paid the almost $150k in restitution that she ordered. The very idea that his mother and grandmother and other enablers will pay into his commissary is disheartening.
