    That 1999 Illinois team was a fun team and hot at the end of the season!

    It seemed like Rocky Harvey played for 50 years at Illinois. Wish he still did.

    I hate responding to posts that happened several years ago, but Illinois is the only and will always be the only team to beat every team in the Big10 in a single season. 1983. So no, it was not the first time Illinois beat both Michigan and OSU in the same year. However, maybe it was the first time they beat both on the road.

      You guys had a pretty good team back than. I still love UofM

      That is true. At the time, the schools played every team in the conference, which had not always been the case. It had been an 8-game conference season. Illinois is the only school to go 9-0 when the Big Ten was just ten and played a 9-game schedule.

    I was apart of the 99' illini team and it was even more exciting being there. That same year we crushed Ohio state something like 65 to 24 at OSU. It was the first the illini beat MICH and OSU in the same year.

      Actually, I think it was the first time beating both on the road in the same season. I think maybe the first time any Big Ten team had done that, but I might be wrong about that.

    This was my first ever football game. I think I remember on the drive home the radio station said it was the largest comeback by an opponent at the big house. My dad and I never went back to Ann Arbor, and until I watched this highlight, I always remembered Rocky and Anthony Thomas...but Tom Brady 😱😱😱 crazy.

    Stupidest move, I think, to take ILLINI or ILLINOIS off the helmet. Re-branding makes money only for the manufacturers. I want ILLINI on helmet. Cool. There's reallly no distinction in having a block I! Thanks for your time.

    I turned 16 this day. I also broke my hand in that day's sophomore football game. THEN I had my heart broken. Still have a lot of respect for the Illini that year. They beat Michigan and OSU on the road, then they stomped Virginia.

    Illinois' key victory at #9 Michigan in 1999became the turning point in the football program's rise to respectability that year. The Fighting Illini had displayed determination and guts to win in Ann Arbor that year. Do not tell me this rivalry -- for two minutes -- is meaningless. This battle has been a classic tussle betweeen the two schools since 1990. A Brilliant 8!! Any Questions?

  • @Poole1Dan

    Cameron was a terrific success as o-coordinator at Michigan (hence also making him a Michigan man). He was a terrific success at Washington, San Diego, and Baltimore. And at Indiana, he was responcible for the development of Antwan Randle El and had much success with his spread offense. I remember in 1999, his offense was so good that they almsot beat us when we went 10-2.
    Cameron is from the schembechler tree, but he's innovative, and he's a proven success

  • @Poole1Dan
    @Poole1Dan 15 лет назад +1

    Moutain is not a star quite yet, but he's got lots of talent, he had 76 tackles last season, and now he's a returnnig starter and he's gonig to be a junior. Mouton should be big asset enxt season.
    I think Michigan needs to win 8 games minimum in order for him to keep his job. And if we go like 7-6, then we better beat Ohio State. I think thats the standard most Michigan fans will hold him to based on the multiple conversatiosn i've had online and in person
    Go Blue!

    And after watching replays of this game a thousand times, my reaction as an Illini fan is always the same - Rocky Harvey should never have scored that last touchdown.

  • @Poole1Dan

    Okay. if you say so. I obviously HOPE Rodriguez makes us a powerhouse, but I don't THINK its going to happen. And I know who Devin Gardner is. He's a high level 4 star (might be a 5 star) dual threat QB from Inskter, he's the teamate of Cameron Gordon, and he led them to the D-4 state championship last season. Gardner will be a great QB no matter what system he plays in

    Amazing come back in this one! Wow. Stunning how they never gave up. Brady was punished severely in this one. GO BUCKEYES!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ThailandKyle

    I think scoring that touchdown with 59 seconds left could have cost Illinois the automatic victory by not going down after getting the first down. By seeing the final score of 35-29, I am thinking Michigan came close to the Illinois goal line, and perhaps turned it over? Because Illinois must have taken a safety to give Michigan a total of 29points as it was 35-27 with 59 ticks left.

  • @TubeGhost
    @TubeGhost 17 лет назад

    IMO, it was Brady and spreading the offense out that gave Michigan the chance to try to come back. They took their foot off their pedal. Brady, obv., is better now but he had some real clutch ability back then. I was at this game. Oy.

    KURT KITTNER!!!!

  • @Viracocha10450
    @Viracocha10450 17 лет назад

    Because he gave Michigan a chance to win the game. If he had just run out of bounds, the Illini could have taken 3 knees and won 28-27. Instead he scored and gave Michigan the ball back, who then went on to get a safety (which gives you the ball back) and a couple of hail mary throws to win in the final seconds.

    No I"m not. Michigan beat Illinois 27-17 last season in Champagne when the illini had Rashard Mendenhall, and Michigan returns most of its defense. So there's no way the Wolverines will lose to illinois in the Big House when the illini no longer have mendenhall. This will be a 10-14 point victory again for Michigan.

  • @TheEliterMan333

    1:03 and 1:26 are perfect examples of bad coverage by Michigan.
    1:03 - No one guarding over the middle. Once he made the catch, you knew he was gone.
    1:26 - 2 on 1 defence with one reciever. So who was suppose to be defending against the wide open one in the back?

  • @Poole1Dan
    @Poole1Dan 15 лет назад

    "let rich put in his safetys and linebackers "
    Well, yeah, John Thompson and Stevie Brown were weak links, but not Obi Ezeh, Jonas Moutan, and Brandon Harrison. Charles Stewart was a sub. you can't blame him for much of anything. we had tons of talent on defense, its just that our coaching is terrible
    As for Toledo, there's alot of blame to go around: Threet, Loapta, Sheridon, the horrible play of the o-line (thanks alot greg frey), the defense....you name it. its not just threet

  • @Poole1Dan
    @Poole1Dan 15 лет назад

    Harrison had a weak senior year, yes, but then again, is that Harrisons fault or the fault of Tony Gibson for not coaching him up? I think its Gibsons fault. harrsion was a playmaker in 2005, 2006, and 2007, and then he just fell apart in 2008. Thats coaching right there.
    Turner is a stud. So is Isaiah Bell. I'm happy with RR's recruiting, but then again, he needs to develope those players and turn us into a winner.

    hotbiggin, thanks for the feedback. Son of a gun. Michigan did nearly tie the game then. If they fall on the ball in the end zone and get the 2 point conversion it is a tie game!!!! The dumb announcer sais that Harvey "seals it once and for all" as he scores with 59 seconds left. They don't think a lot of times. So stupid, still a one score game!!! Drives me nuts when the guys in the booth don't know whats going on and us everyday Joe's see basic stuff they don't.

  • @Poole1Dan
    @Poole1Dan 16 лет назад

    "hey last time i checked illinois finished 9-3 and missagain finished 8-4."
    Wrong. We both finished 9-4 overall, and we beat you guys head on, AT Champagne, 27-17, WITHOUT Mike Hart, and with Henne banged up. And pelase, we will ebat you guys by 10-14 points next year. Go Blue!

  • @Poole1Dan
    @Poole1Dan 16 лет назад

    "Haha Michigan is terrible. Did you see Illinois whoop that ass in your house?"
    Well, I was dead wrong about that prediction wasn't I? Yeah, we totally sucked this season. Dickrod should be fired. He's a terrible head coach.
    BTW, I think your guys 45-20 ass whooping of is was the highlight win of your season considering you guys finished 5-7. Congrats
    Go Blue!

  • @Poole1Dan
    @Poole1Dan 15 лет назад

    Because I feel that going 3-9 when you have such a deep pool of talent available to you is just unacceptable. I think we would ahve gone 8-4 or 9-3 had we hired a compatent head coach like Cam Cameron or Brady Hoke. I really don't think RR is the answer, but I hope he proves me wrong
    I mean, 3-9? A loss to Toledo? C'mon!

  • @ThailandKyle
    @ThailandKyle 16 лет назад

    Can you believe how stupid the announcer was when he said that Illinois sealed it? The only way he should have went on to score that touchdown was if Michigan had ALL THREE TIME OUTS remaining. Do you recall if they had less than 3 time outs left? I am guessing they did not have all 3 left at that juncture. Thanks.

  • @Poole1Dan
    @Poole1Dan 15 лет назад

    And unlike Rodriguez, Cameron is a proven success with real teams in real conferences. Sure he wasn't a winner at indiana, but then again, who is? Gerry Dinardo couldn't win at indiana. Terry Hoeppner couldn't win at Indiana. Nobody wins at Indiana. Cameron has Big Ten experience, whereas Rodriguez is on over his head. Remember that spread offense that we ran in the Capital one bowl. you can expect that kind of stuff under cameron
    Cameron>>>>>>>>Rodriguez

    "number 1 wide out who rund a 4.8 thats sad"
    if you are talknig about Shitavious Odoms, I'm not surprised. So i'll cede that argument to you
    " rich didnt bring scoot schafer with him to michigan."
    actually Travis, rodriguez did pluck shafer away from Stanford. I hope Greg Robinson isn't a royal screwup either. i think Robinson is good, but then again, I thought the same thing with Shafer

  • @Poole1Dan
    @Poole1Dan 15 лет назад
