The video Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (1975) by Jack Goldstein is one of the visual icons of video art: Here Goldstein deconstructs the famous Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film leader logo by removing the word "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer" along with the comedy mask on the bottom of the logo. It the result is a minimalist image that shows the king of the animals under the ornate lettering "Ars Gratia Artis" (art for art's sake): Goldstein freezes the roaring lion in a short loop so that it is doomed to roar for a long time.
Just curious. Was this "easy" to make back then? Today, anybody with Wax and Windows Movie Maker can do this with ease. Maybe someone out there can help us appreciate this more.
To capture the viewer into an eternal purgatory of not yet watching the movie, yet also in front of the screen. It draws out the anticipation of the movie
