    Pork Pie has been making waves in the drum industry with their unusual, innovative products. The Big Black Brass Snare Drum with Tube Lugs is a good example of this. Retro-style tube lugs that traverse the depth of the body, and a brass shell with a stunning black chrome finish. This snare is available for SoundPure's Try-Before-You-Buy Program so if you want to hear how it sounds in your studio with your gear, shoot us an email at Drums@SoundPure.com or call us anytime at 919.682.5552. Thanks for watching!

      It’s like demonstrating an electric guitar but not plugging into an amp. Soundpure is one of the worst companies for RUclips content. It makes me not want to buy from them.

    Can you do a VS video against the Ludwig Black Beauty? Just for fun! Like this drum though! Recently used it on an album I played drums on! My snare was having issues, and the engineer had one of these at the studio! Popped on a new Remo PS3 and it sounded great!

    I wish you could do a real big comparison of pretty much just brass snares right now, for me. I’d also include some woods especially tulip, cherry, and oak; like I wish I could custom make a snare drum out of those three woods together.
    But I currently have a maple and wanna add a metal and I like brass the best as well as that pewter covered copper.
    I’d love to see a powerhouse list of great snares I’ve seen around, but not yet up there to like the Black Beauty and N&C drums.
    The shortlist I’m thinking of right now is of course this one;
    Pork Pie Big Black over brass as well as
    Ludwig Black Magic
    Ludwig Brass Phonic
    DW Black Nickel over Brass
    Yamaha Brass Recording Custom
    Mapex Brass Black Panther
    Tama SLP Black Brass
    Pearl Brass Sensitone
    Pearl Free Floating Brass
    (I’m sure there are plenty more just in that $400-$650 category too, as well as above and below.) It didn’t take me long to make that short list of snares and it’s not like I’m some drummer that’s played a long time or has been super into drums for so many years. There’s just so many options, and that’s just brass.

      Anthony Cardenas I just recently got a Pork Pie 7x13 Exotic Rosewood snare. It's a maple shell with exotic Rosewood and Zebrawood veneer. It's an absolutely beautiful looking and sounding drum. It's a nice contrast to my Ludwig 8x14 Maple snare. I'm still playing around with different tunings on the Pork Pie, but it sounds really crisp with nice rimshot crack tuned up high. As with most Pork Pie snares you're getting a LOT of bang for your buck.

    What's the difference between this snare and the Patina Brass?

    • @julianboyd8719
      @julianboyd8719 6 лет назад

      Tim Schrieber the patina brass is heavier and not plated so it's a big more open and ring-y.

    Does anyone else have a problem with the sound being a bit harsh? I'm not a super heavy hitter and I've tune my snare all kinds of different ways but my bandmates sort of wence every time I hit the thing. I currently have the HD dry as my batter had and I dont usually do rim shots

    the only way I can know if I would love a drum is if I could get to play on it. most drum demos on y.t. almost always sound the same to me. I can't go by the way something sounds in a video.

    • @soundpurestudios
      @soundpurestudios  8 лет назад +5

      Hi Kenneth... there certainly is nothing like trying a drum for yourself. If you're not in the Durham, NC area, we offer a free demo program to try snares at home. If you'd like to set that up call or email us at drums(at)soundpure.com.

      Agreed. So much depends on what mic is being used, its position, what head's being used, the room, tightning of the snare wires, tuning etc.

      Well, go to a music store and play this. It's worth it. I put a ludwig black beauty next to it and played both. I bought the pork pie.

      Sounds good to me in the video. Maybe put some headphones on. But I'm hearing this clearly, and i hear all the different sounds it can make. Without headphones.

    How does this snare sound compared to an actual black beauty?

    • @shannonedens7854
      @shannonedens7854 7 лет назад +4

      I was able to compare one of these with a Black Beauty in person at Sam Ash last week. They are very similar. They did have different heads, so I had to take that into account, but man were they close. The Black Beauty seemed to have a bit more low end beefiness, and a bit more warmth and presence. But honestly, once you changed the heads and played it with the rest of the band, I doubt you could tell much difference. I've been shopping for a Black Beauty to replace my Supraphonic, and I am now SERIOUSLY considering the Pork Pie.

      I put them both next to each other, and played both. I bought the pork pie.

    take off those ridiculous nylon washers. nylon washes make a drum sound like crap.
    this drum sounds fine though, for the price i suppose. better than the black magic ludwig is putting out. the black magic aren't in the same spec as the black beauty. look at the lugs, little things have been changed to prevent the black magic from sounding as good. this drums has extra spaced lug mounts, which is exactly what ludwig did to the black magics. so you aren't getting a black beauty clone, but a black magic clone. this changes the vibration of the drum ever so slightly. but enough that you would be able to want a 1000$ drum over a 350$ drum.
