      Haha! Cool! Yeah, you're going to LOVE it! It has a wide range, and can sound fat and low for Rock, or crank it up and it sings! Appreciate it! Looking forward to when you get yours! Happy drumming, brother!

    I came across your vid because I'm looking for demonstrations of the Pork Pie 13×7 brass snare. After using a Pearl 14×6.5 brass snare through most of the 2010s, I went through a few different types and brands of snares, mainly 14" Tama maple and steel snares before ending up with the OCDP 13×4 steel snare, which I'm currently using.
    I prefer 13" diameter snare drums because I play two kick drums and I don't like the feeling of my inner legs rubbing against the snare.
    After watching/hearing your vid I think I'm going to have to go with the 13×7 Pork Pie you have here. It sounds incredible!
    Oddly enough, you mentioned being a jazz drummer and you mentioned your gear... Well, I'm a seasoned metal drummer, mostly deathmetal and blackmetal since the late '90s, yet we use (or will be using) very similar gear.
    I'm going to be purchasing a Mapex Saturn next month (two 20×16, 10×7, 12×8, 13×9, and 14×14, along with the 13×7 Pork Pie brass) to replace my Tama DX/OCDP steel snare setup. You have great taste in cymbals as well. I play Paiste and only Paiste since 2019. Most drummers in my genre play Meinl or Sabian. Those who play Paiste play the Rude, 2002, or the 900 lines.
    My taste in cymbals is closer to yours than it is to most metal drummers. My current cymbal setup (all Paiste) is:
    • 14" Sound Formula Reflector Heavy Hi-Hat (left)
    • 13" Alpha Medium Hi-Hats (right)
    • 20" Signature Series Dry Ride
    • 19" Signature Series Full Crash
    • 18" Twenty Custom Full Crash
    • 16" Signature Series Fast Crash
    • 10" Signature Reflector Splash
    • 10" Signature Series Splash
    • 18" Rude Novo China
    • 18" Alpha Rock China
    All this aimless writing from me is out of amusement that two drums from opposite genres use very similar drums/cymbals.

      Bro!! EXCELLENT choice! For the price point, you can't beat the 13x7 patina brass! It is a KILLER drum! I still use it all the time! Well, I wouldn't call myself mainly a jazz drummer, I'm just a drummer who plays whatever/whoever is paying me to! Haha! I started with an 8 piece kit, double pedals, a million cymbals, etc.; but then I learned technique and how to play multiple genres over the years, and started gigging and teaching. So, I've used that drum on everything from hard rock, to funk, to pop, to punk, to jazz, etc. It's a very sensitive and versatile snare with a huge tuning range! I love brass snares! And aluminum! But, you made the right choice, 100%! Nice setup, bro! I have way more drums/kits/cymbals/setups now since this video was done, but I still use my Pork Pie 13x7 often, and even though I have drums that cost 3-4 times as much as the Pork Pie Brass, I still use that drum when I want a good brass sound. It's great for rock and metal! It's highly versatile. Thanks for stopping by! Happy drumming, my friend!

      I use Paiste for my bright sounds. Signatures too. But the real Paiste gem I have is a formula 602 Modern essentials ride! That ride is incredible! Yeah, if you're just playing one genre and smashing power strokes, Paiste sigs and 2002s are what most ppl go with. Also, dyno beats, or X/Zs. In general, I much more prefer darker and Turkish sounding cymbals, not bright European/Swiss sounding cymbals. But to be versatile, have bright crashes, and to be prepared for whoever might want that sound or is paying me to play the sounds they want; I try to be prepared all around with lots of sounds and contexts. I'm playing a Pearl Session Studio Select, a Tama Starclassic (with a 1300$ handmade Japanese Star solid mahogany), a Mapex Saturn, and a DW bop kit these days. So, I use whatever kit, wood, tones, snares, and cymbals that fit the context of what I'm playing. Take care!

      Thanks so much! I think I'm set for a very long time and found my sound with that combo of cymbals and drums. Took me quite a few years to slowly trade up, and then I found a phenomenal shop called Drum Flip that has all sorts of gems for cheaper. He has a good website too where you can see each kit, and the snares and cymbals. I don't mind getting used cymbals if they're in good condition.
      Appreciate the comment and hope you're doing well, little bro! Happy drumming!

    Hello there , I have a very important question to ask you about the pork pie 13-7 bluegreen patina and the polished bead patina, copper splatter looking, polished version, does those colors types sounds different in between them each please ??, I do love your brass patina copper splatter color 13-7 by the way ….

    • @blakenunndrums
      @blakenunndrums  Месяц назад

      @emmanuelpascalnaigom6366 Hey, bro! Yeah, the patina does either dry out the sound a bit or give it a little more ping/overtones if it's polished. I found a patina without all the blues/greens on it, and it was still a drier sounding drum, but all a brownish color rather than brown/blue/green. Since this video, I also have a polished 13x7 version. Both are phenomenal, and if you're going to be fighting a wall of guitar/bass amps while playing, a polished vs. patina'd won't make one bit of difference than cosmetic for you. All those overtones and ping will get buried in the mix, 100%. You can get either drum to sound like the other with some creative muffling, head choice, and tuning. So honestly, I'd just go for what you like the look of more. If you want a more vintage and dry sound, go with the patina. If only playing by yourself or recording with it, rather than fighting all those guitar and bass timbres live in the mix, factor that in as well. I've seen WAY more patina versions than polished (I live just 30 minutes down the freeway from Bill Detamore/Pork Pie head honcho), so it seems like the patina ones are more sellable for him, not sure. The 13x7 is a strange dimension drum, with DEEP sounding tone but super sensitivity and a great brass sound; especially for the price. I'll put that PP 13x7 up against drums that are triple the price, 100%. It's that nice. You can also get a hold of Bill, let him know the exact color or pattern of the patina you want, and he'll make you one custom, too. Getting a patina without the blue/green is damn near impossible, but I'm more a fan of the continuous look than the tie-dyed blue/green look, so I scored one that was very different than the rest I was seeing in surrounding stores and online. Get what you gravitate towards looks wise, then consider dampening and dry/vintage/aged brass vs polished and pingier (made up a new word! lol) sound to make your choice. Happy hunting and drumming!

      @emmanuelpascalnaigom6366 PS, I also just ordered brass die cast hoops for my polished version as well, so the entire drum will be brass, including the hoops, and the die cast hoops will also get rid of some of those overtones. It's a thin shell with triple flanged hoops, and I even threw a 30 strand snare wires on it! Haha! 30 strand wires on a 13" drum = SUPER sensitive ghost notes and a lot of snap with rim shots. It comes as a naturally open sounding drum, so there are easily ways you can leave it super open (flanged hoops, single ply batter head, 300 mil reso head, etc), or make it have less overtones (2 ply head, moongel/dampening, die cast hoops instead of flanged, etc.) So, I would get more of what you like the look of, then just be a little creative with muffling/hoops/number of wires/thickness of heads, etc. to get it to sound like you want. 👊

    This Snare drum is made in US?

    • @blakenunndrums
      @blakenunndrums  Год назад +2

      Which drum? The Pork Pie BOB/black on brass 14x6.5 is part of the "little squeeler" line, which is outsourced to Taiwan and mass manufactured on an assembly line. It's basically a world max shell. That's the only line not made in the U.S. My 13x7 brass patina is made in the US. All other Pork Pie drums are handmade by one man, Bill Detamore, in the U.S., yes. He's also a retired NASA scientist. Some of the best "custom" drums you can possibly find, 100%

      @timothygayne2058 Cool, man! Yeah, that's how I have all my snares setup, and this video is from years ago with a drum I just took right outta the box. I usually put 30 strand wires and coated G1s or Aquarian texture coated batters with a hazy 300 on all my drums. Thanks!
