Reports from the Ela Gaan Front by anonymous war correspondent: War with the vicious Ela Gaan had been long in coming, and the Imperial Navy delivered the first blow with its typical ruthless efficiency. On 2249.03.27 on the New Imperial calendar, the main battle fleet took up bombardment positions over the planet of Elaam, the festering heart of the Ela Gaans' empire. After months of bombardment, Imperial liberation forces made landfall, spearheaded by General Manstein and his renowned 501st legion. After less than two months of relatively light combat, the capital of the Autocracy was fully under Imperial control. Once Elaam had been subdued, Admiral Joshua Dread led the fleet to the Zarqon system, intent on continuing the thus-far uncontested Imperial conquest. What awaited him on the other side was a battle no one could have predicted. A vast Autocracy fleet lay in ambush, leaping upon the unprepared Imperial forces as they came out of warp. Three Light Cruisers led the rallying Imperial forces into the fray, one of them Admiral Dread's own flagship. Utilizing hive-like swarming tactics, the Autocracy ships cut the cruisers off from reinforcements and tore them to shreds. Dread managed to escape the destruction of his ship, but all three cruisers were lost. The battle that followed was long and brutal, with Imperial forces eliminating vast swathes of Ela Gaan aggressors. In the end, however, the enemy's bizarre tactics, superior numbers, and support of their nearby battle station led to a mass retreat by Imperial forces. The weeks that followed this defeat were grim for those left planet-side on Elaam, this reporter included. Without the Imperial navy, we were stranded on a foreign, hostile planet. The tragedy was further compounded when scattered deep space transmissions revealed that the 212th and accompanying legions had been annihilated while attempting to retreat to Elaam and reinforce the garrison. Despite the hopelessness of the situation, General Manstein reacted with calm dignity as he directed the reconstruction of defensive positions, aided by Ela Gaan conscripts eager to escape the clutches of the tyrannical Autocracy. The 501st dug into Elaam and prepared for a hopeless siege. The first bombs dropped after two weeks of waiting, and bombardment continued for over a month. Casualties were minimal, thanks to the Autocracy's unwillingness to fire upon their own citizens. Still it was only a matter of time for us. Or so we thought. Suddenly, on 2251.12.21, a transmission came over the radio like a cry of victory. Admiral Joshua Dread had returned, bringing with him the war hardened, freshly repaired and rearmed survivors of the Zarqon Massacre. Descending on the shocked Aurtocracy fleet, they obliterated ship after ship, losing only one corvette in exchange for ten or more enemy vessels. The only known fleet of the Ela Gaan had been completely eliminated. All that remained now was the wreckage-strewn fortress planet in the Zarqon system, the one thing standing between the Empire and total victory...Uldrugg.
true, as vast amounts of ships can all fire at once and have to be taken down individually while a huge ship may have good weapons cannot fire as much as 10 small ships and will be taken down quicker. so just build huge amounts of small ships and a few large ships, maybe split it into 2 fleets to the little ships engage first (meaning less large ships lost) and the 2nd fleet being all the big ships which engage after.
Yeah Swarm tactics take heavy casualties but work indifferently and will save the bigger ships. The only downside: If you enter a small battle that would only slightly damage a cruiser the same battle would cause several destroyed corvettes
I think the fleet should be a mix of swarm tactics and large capital ships. We are the empire after all, so we're sort of forced to build large destroyers to stay in character
Or...just send some armies and take it. I've been saying for weeks grab the Haarn race in the Kochab system. They have very similar ethics and would fit right in, but no that's not using the fleet is it.
Jacob Clark I did this but it was just me and one of my own empires as an AI. They didn't seem to care AND I now have a full 25 tile planet with desert people. Plus I have slave armies researched so that will be fun.
research alternatives gives you more options when a research is finished, right now you have to pick between three possible researches. if you get the +1 then you'll be able to pick between 4 possible researches.
From the Desk of Senator Evelyn of New Terra - No war is without sacrifice, and we honor the sacrifice of all the sailors and stormtroopers lost in our continued war against the Ela Gaan. However, these sacrifices have taught us valuable lessons: -While our cruisers are powerful, they are vulnerable without a sizable support fleet. I move that we continue our efforts to build corvettes and destroyers to defend the pride of our fleets. -Our armies are the finest in the sector, but they are too small to exert dominance over our growing empire. I move that we double the size of our ground forces, by enlisting our brave citizens and conscripting slave armies from the predator clan. -While our fleets are abroad, our home sectors are imperiled. I move that we expand the size of the XPG Empire defense fleet, to deter lesser empires from taken advantage of our outstretched growth. I urge our emperor and the imperial senate to pass these measures, in order to ensure a glorious future for the Empire! GLORY TO THE EMPIRE!
Addendum - As I've always warned, the vile Predator Clans continue to grow. We must eliminate this threat before they become a scourge once more. Every day their government exist increases lawlessness on our boards, and emboldens our Predator workforce. I move that, once this war is over, that we eliminate the Predator threat once and for all. GLORY TO THE EMPIRE!
we've allowed those predators to waste space for too long. They shall be wiped from existence! I agree with the accountant. We should support our cruisers to secure the Empire's dominance over the galaxy!
Your Light Cruisers are glass cannons. They die way too quickly to do enough damage to make them worth the cost. You need to totally redesign the ship to make it more tanky, even if you have to use outdated weapons. You also need at least two major fleets, one for the Western front and one for the Eastern front. A minor defensive fleet is also a good idea.
Hey, shack, Vassalage indicates that the vassal nation is allowed to exist, but only because you allow it. they do what you tell them to do, give a tribute every so often (usually resources or money), and it takes a crap ton of effort to get out of. but ultimately its like a bonus to your average check.
Excerpt from a speech by Naval Intelligence Officer Tandooritoast to the Imperial Senate: As a Imperial citizen, I am concerned that the predator brutes take influence away from loyal citizens. Any attempt to directly colonize a planet with them is an affront to the Human citizenry of the empire, and a security risk and rebellion waiting to happen. These predators must be taught that they must pay for their damages. Perhaps purging some these xenos and replacing them with loyal Imperial Citizenry will teach them the error of their ways. Additionally, there must be large ground forces on predator planets to keep the xenos from revolting or aiding the rebellion. I strongly recommend building space ports over every Imperial world to protect from threats within the empire and outside attacks by rebels or the genocidal xeno maniacs who call themselves the Elan Gaan. These space ports would increase the amounts of ships the empire could field and maintain, and speed production of new ships. For a Glorious Age of Order and Productivity.
Shack your light cruisers are set up to rush in close (check the combat computers). Their speed is causing them to outrun friendly support and receive the majority of incoming fire. Due to their smaller numbers it makes them easy to get focused down and destroyed.
hey captain shack i just wanted to take a few moments and say how much i enjoy your videos from your mod spotlights, group survival and the Stellaris campaign i look forward to all your videos and enjoy them all
Shield Generators are typically used for border planets that sit way too close to enemy systems and that you fear have too much of an attack risk.Though you could build them on core worlds if you're paranoid.
Shake you need to put more armor on your ships and less shields. Also the Predator's territory is no longer the shape of a boot and and that cannot be allowed.
(I'm Manstein) Upon being told that he would have to hold the line at Elaam without fleet support, Field Marshal Manstein had this to say. "Nutz, well let them come. I had nothing else planned for this afternoon. They are not getting past the 501st."
Hi Shack Love the series and your news reports at the beginning of the episodes are so fun. As for a point on the carriers, the fighters are a huge game changer. If you fight any enemies that use missile tech or torps your fighters will work as a mobile point defense letting your other ships pack on more weapons. And also Venators are Battleships Mk1s not cruisers, but, you will get the Acclamators. With your War Score of 73 you can end the war now by sending them your demands. The Predators have used a Frontier Outpost to expand into that new little bubble of territory.
"We thought we were untouchable, we crushed the predators and the pirates. It seemed the Ella Gam took notes, and Dredd led us right into a trap. They say dredd has more imperial blood on his hands then then the four eyes do. We questioned his strategy when Dredd refused to scout Zarqqon, and we paid the price in blood. At the heat of the battle when the cruisers were lost many of the captains requested that the 212th be sent back, but Dresd responded 'we die or they die, there are no survivors'" eventually the fleet was ordered to make an emergency jump. No one told the 212th, and the 212th never left Zarggon" -anonymous soldier from the "The Zarqqon mistake"
The research is stored when not in use, and is then released when you use it, thus giving you twice the speed until the stored research runs out. 38 per month becomes 76 per month.
An engineer comment on the battle of the Zircon sistem: dammit! those shiny new cruisers, it took so long to bild them! and the just got mowed down like nothing...
Shack, when you vassalize a faction, after a few years under your rule, you can then integrate them into your empire through diplomatic channels. This is the peaceful way to expand your empire.
More New Captions for you "The Funeral Ceremony for our deceased leader, Grand Marshal Shack, was beautiful. Billions gathered in the Capital of Emperor's Landing, paying respect. A mandatory No Alien Attendance Policy was met with little resistance." "A vicious counterattack in the Zargon System caught the Imperial fleet off-guard. Captain Dread valiantly held off multiple waves of enemies. In his final moments, his ship "The Dread" blasted several vessels into dust, then when weapon systems were down, he rammed several others, buying enough time for his support craft swarm the remaining vessels." "In a show of good faith, a new mining colony is being run by all Predator Clan servants. Many Imperial Citizens are weary of this move, but in the words of one 'They have a choice, work for us, or die like the rest.'" "The Predator Clan has found their feet again, and started repairing and working their planets. The High Council debate over integrating the rest these stragglers or reducing them to dust, for good."
You may be able to pick up a little extra influence and accelerate founding your next colony if you research the optional menace projects. The pirate project may give you some interesting trading options.
"The weapon fired without issue! Although, there were some power flickers on the lower decks... And loss of artificial gravity... And a few concussions... But overall, no issues!" God I wish news irl was like this!
As a concerned human citizen of the Empire. I fear that the predators do have to much Free will! I say the Emperor should put a tighter chain on those savages!
Shack the most likely reason you could retreat with that admiral is that he can probably only do a shatter retreat or an equivalent to a shatter retreat mechanic. In a different paradox title, eu4, there are 2 different retreat mechanics. There is the normal retreat mechanic where you get to chose where you retreat to. then there is the shatter retreat mechanic where your army would randomly chose a province to retreat to.
The last moments of the Roger Young caught this audio. Lt. Kilrain: "You apes want to live forever?! Drop life support and transfer all power to weapons! Admiral, we have suffered hull breaches on all decks. Long Live the Emperor!"
In ship designer change your cruisers computers so that they don't charge in first since they take majority of corvette fire that way and during a battle always create reinforcements makes things easier oh and make more corvettes as well and have them charge first that way they can be shields
Hey Shack! I love this series! I am a huge Star Wars fan so I was hooked right away. Quick question you might have answered...apart from the mods you have for this do you have any of the other dlc that you can buy from Steam to make this all work too? Or can you have this same experience without the dlc?
Your fleet is almost back to full strength, and the Ela Gaan fleet has been wrecked. You have this now, push in and wreck that space station, end the war, and then turn your attention to the Predators.
"And in current events, the Predator populated colony ship I.N. Brazil continues to orbit the planet of ________. This is the tenth week the I.N Brazil has been idling in orbit as the imperial senate continues to debate allowing Predators to claim a new world with the Empire's consent."
Shack, screen your Cruisers! You need to either change your Cruiser AI or your Corvette/Destroyer AI. Right now you have the Cruisers set to aggressive (the gun AI) while the smaller ships are on a neutral setting. That's why your Cruisers are going to the front, out running the rest of your fleet and getting blown up. If the AI's match, the smaller ships will screen for your Cruisers, you'll lose more of the smaller ships but you won't lose cruisers as quickly.
Shack have you upgraded the light cruisers shields? I remember in the last episode you unlocked them but I can't remember if you upgraded your ships. Love the series btw, keep it up!
Never trade star charts! You want it to remain unexplored so that you get more to discover with your science ships. More unexplored stars = more events and goodies.
Gotta say Shack, with respect of course, the decision to retreat was a costly one. If you'd stuck it out, sure you would have likely lost your entire fleet, but you would have crushed theirs and not had to play "rush back the fleet". That being said, just as a quick side note, you only find habitable planets by jumping into the system now, not just by having been close by. So, it's very likely that there is another Predator compatible planet in the pocket where you suspect they put a station. Plus, even if you vassalize them, that doesn't necessarily stop them from spreading, they can still colonize and grow. Nice little perk for when you integrate them down the line.
It might be worth waiting a bit before you attack the predators. If you can get a high enough tech advantage, you can make them a protectorate rather than vassal. Protectorate give you influence each month, which is something you really need
Goddammit shack. Defensive alliance=will help you if war is declared on you. Nonaggression pact=they cant declare war on you. IF YOU DECARE WAR YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN.
*builds a golden throne on new tera and puts the dead emperor shack on it* all hail the now immortal emperor shack *starts a religious cult while she's at it*
Shack, you need to change the vindicator combat computers. I know they are big ships with plenty of hull, but by sending them in first you negate that range advantage they have and then they get target priority by a bunch of small ships, which I have seen take down "larger" fleet powers. That power score is a good quick glance indicator of battle, but even a smaller score if made of many ships will actually have more dps than a larger score (to a degree). It is better to have the smaller ships up front to take the initial hits because I believe they have a better evasion score, and it essentially wastes the enemies opening barrage.
My Emperor if you build observation post over the primitive civilizations planets you will be able to enlightened them into vassalage removing the need to have those frontier outposts saving us influence.
shack short explanation: vasal is epire that will fight with you no mater that , protectorent is step be fore vasal but you can train them technology tribiute is self explenitory.
Shack, you should make it to where once the pirate/rebels problem has gotten so bad that in the intro with the XPGIN news the pirates/rebels hack into it and start their own broadcast and use that as proof to mobilize the fleet(While you're secretly preparing for war against one of the nation).
(Warhammer 40K Inquisitor Voice) I have an observation I would like to point out. As you noticed, during the course of this episode, the Predators are recouping their strength and regaining lost territory. It is this stratagem's opinion that given their previous war with you and the fact you have some of their people in chains, the likelyhood of them seeking revenge is all but absolute. In other words My Lord Emperor...finish them off...make war with them one last time and make these Clans know the Empire is not to be (CENSORED) with. (Normal Voice) But that's just me :P
i recomend getting railgun technology when you can get them. those along with imperial lazers would make the fleet a powerful force to be feared across the galaxly
When asked to comment over her apparent longevity compared to her now deceased colleagues, Dr Tabby had this to say: "Bet you aren't laughing at my name now" Back to you Shack

atreides213 nice report
I live to serve. All hail the Emperor!
atreides213 lol nice
I Say Good Job Sir!
Your Piece Was Amazing!
Damn. Tabby just outlives everyone. name someone Yoda and see if she outlives him. that would be hillarious

You know what, you should've stayed and finished off the enemy fleet before retreating, that way you could've prevented the lost of the 212th.
yeah that's right
zomb ies Sooooo cringy. So many bad decisions.
Shack if you check one of your systems, you have a pre-space civ that you could build a station over. You could then integrate them in a few ways.
Or...just send some armies and take it. I've been saying for weeks grab the Haarn race in the Kochab system. They have very similar ethics and would fit right in, but no that's not using the fleet is it.
Invade primitive species worsens your diplomatic relations with other empires a lot. -100 for 10 years, i think.
Make sure the primitive culture looks like stone aged teddy bears with a deadly knack for carpentry skills that can take down mechanized infantry.
Jacob Clark I did this but it was just me and one of my own empires as an AI. They didn't seem to care AND I now have a full 25 tile planet with desert people. Plus I have slave armies researched so that will be fun.
2 actually,he has 2 pre-space civs in his systems
research alternatives gives you more options when a research is finished, right now you have to pick between three possible researches. if you get the +1 then you'll be able to pick between 4 possible researches.

Alex Johnson yeah something like minerals for energy credits would be helpful
Maybe minerals for research
I am loving this series when I got the notification I yelled Yes
me too
IGI 0110 me too
IGI 0110 ikr

Death: "Tabby, it is your time."
Tabby: "Fuck off, there's *SCIENCE* to be done."
Death:But Tabby you're a old bag ya can't live forever!
Tabby:Science makes me immortal....
So you guys dont believe she has been replaced with a Space Squirrel then?
Mike Hunt "replaced"?
Hasn't she always been a rabid space squirrel?
DAMMIT DREAD!!
Why are your most expensive cruisers leading the charge?!!?
Lol
It's because of the onboard computers selected for the class. They're aggressive.
The Canadian Patriot
Then make them passive.
Grigory Nobodygivesashitsky
That might work...
IF WE STILL HAD OUR HEAVY CRUISERS!!!!
r u idxxt even play this game b4? that is cpu ai.
You don't have to scan systems to see if their are habitable planets. if you can get any ship in system that should be enough.
Shack, remember to update the science and colony ship designs with better thrusters, sensors, and warp engines
It's kind of weird that this is one of my favourite shows. I mean I'm really invested
I love the news telecast Intermission. Keep them coming!

In ship designer change your cruisers computers so that they don't charge in first since they take majority of corvette fire that way and during a battle always create reinforcements makes things easier oh and make more corvettes as well and have them charge first that way they can be shields
Good luck
The predators are definitely expanding. It looks like they're pushing south of the Themlar, maybe into all the unclaimed territory in the east
" Were going to enslave you guys. Just prepare for it, it gonna be a thing." Lol best commentary on stellaris ever.
this war with the Ela Gaan can hardly be called a war more like deleting a nuisance
Just say :
need some hoth , tatooine felucia and glee anselm planets .
Some members of the Imperial Senate are questioning the wisdom behind the Emperor's decree to "stop dying".
The war may have been more difficult than anticipated, but the Empire shall always pull through!
There are some planets through your empire that can have an obsarvation post. I think those give you a influence or science bonus
You need energy to terraform and infuence for colenizing
That make me sad I died in that last fight. R.I.P Lt. Kobalt.
jonathan taylor poor you
Humiliating an enemy will provide a major boost to your influence.
Ahhh shack, you've still got last weeks votes in the description
F*CKING F*CK SHACK. DONT DECARE. DO NOT DECLARE.
Well... that worked out fine. Okay.
that retreat order was a big tactical blunder. There are some fleet admirals that need to be force choked over this
I have a idea for a science ship captain, Oskar S. Kerman (like James T. Kirk). Or just a destroyer/cruiser/carrier captain.
Shack, you can swap out AI in your Vindicator class cruisers for a more passive role, so they don't just charge in recklessly.
commander fox reporting for duty
"Will you or will you not finish this fight?"
UNSC Marine Corps Sergeant Major Avery Junior Johnson
32:35 You've probably realized this by now, but continentals are wet worlds.
Shack if u look at enterelysium's series u will see that he actually took over the 4K ship
Losing over half of his fleet while doing so.
That was a good fight.
*builds a golden throne on new tera and puts the dead emperor shack on it* all hail the now immortal emperor shack *starts a religious cult while she's at it*
I want the 40k series now.
For the Emperor.
Burn the Heretics...
51:47 you had a 420 fleet there XD
39:00 I don't know why I laughed so hard at that
My Emperor if you build observation post over the primitive civilizations planets you will be able to enlightened them into vassalage removing the need to have those frontier outposts saving us influence.
Shack have you seen the Mechwarrior 5 mercenaries trailer that dropped a week ago?
shack short explanation: vasal is epire that will fight with you no mater that , protectorent is step be fore vasal but you can train them technology tribiute is self explenitory.
Shack, you should make it to where once the pirate/rebels problem has gotten so bad that in the intro with the XPGIN news the pirates/rebels hack into it and start their own broadcast and use that as proof to mobilize the fleet(While you're secretly preparing for war against one of the nation).
I searched an hour ago to see if this was up yet and faithful stayed until it did, sucks i forgot to refresh till now.
Glory to the empire. Long live the emperor.
Has anyone told him he can double click on a ship in the fleet and he can follow said ship and zoom in on it a little better
Their corvettes had a huge evasion bonus. What edics are you using that's sucking up your influence?
start building defense platforms just in case your fleet is to far from your space
i agree defense platforms are needed
1:05 LOL I didn't know Spock worked for the Empire?!?
Turn the predators into your vassals
The overall experience of the scientists may have an effect on the research speed?
Really? "where all fine here"?
Oh deary me shack...
We're all fine here
When asked to comment over her apparent longevity compared to her now deceased colleagues, Dr Tabby had this to say:
"Bet you aren't laughing at my name now"
Back to you Shack
