  • American Couple Reacts: I Vow To Thee My Country/Pipe Dream-Funny Percussion Duet! HM Royal Marines! FIRST TIME REACTION!
    Continuing with honoring the Military on this Remembrance Sunday, we wanted to listen to one of the most requested British Patriotic songs. We also wanted to see this requested sketch of the Massed Bands of HM Royal Marines having some fun! They certainly deserve it! Both of these videos moved us, in different ways of course.
    We absolutely LOVE "I Vow To Thee My Country" what a beautiful song! The Royal Marines Band are beyond incredible! Natasha literally cannot get the song out of her head!
    We offer our thank you, respect and love again to ALL Veterans and active service military! God Bless you all! Thank you for watching! LEST WE FORGET!

      Natasha & Debbie it's difficult, without being boastful, to express just how good the Royal Marines are in their musical endeavours, particularly when you appreciate that they have other "jobs & skills" more appropriate to traditional and more modern (NBCD deContamination) warfare etc. Before they are even considered for training as RM Bandsmen they have to undergo a one week residential musical/military assessment, which if successful, allows them to undergo the first fourteen weeks of Basic Royal Marine Basic Training at the RM Commando Training Centre at Lympstone. If they pass-out of this course as basic RM Infantrymen, they are then allowed to begin their musical training as RM Bandsmen. Videos of this are on youtube; Initial Civilian Assessment : ruclips.net/video/fsOkWUHQaCs/видео.html, Basic RM Training : ruclips.net/video/gEr6Dn6so00/видео.html .
      They also start young at the many official Royal Marine Cadet Centres, which does help : ruclips.net/video/UCjgoXQWabw/видео.html
      Enjoy!

    My father died on 11/11 at 11.14am. His most favoured day was Armistice day. We are Australian and He would have worn his poppy to services locally. On the day he died he knew what day it was and waited. He took his last breath after the minutes silence. Its been a long time now but I miss him like it was this morning.

      Utmost respect for both, thousands of miles might separate our Countries, but the ties are strong, proof of that, is relentlessly taking the mickey out of each other 5 minutes after meeting, with nothing off limits, Accents, Rugby, Cricket,Food etc
      Also helped by the unmentioned realisation, our Fathers, Grandfather's and Great Grandfather's behaved in the same way, whenever and wherever they had met.

      Yes, I agree. Whenever I return to my old school for old boys weekend, as I did for the 1200th anniversary a few years ago, the Sunday service at the Cathedral always includes the singing of this song after the roll is called of former pupils who have died in the Services over the past year (military, emergency services, and overseas with NGOs). The power of the words sung by 1100 boys, their families, and us oldies, is unbeatable.

    The words are so deep.
    "I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
    Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
    The love that asks no questions, the love that stands the test,
    That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
    The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
    The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
    And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
    Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
    We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
    Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
    And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
    And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

      This version replaces the second stanza with the older third stanza which you almost never hear sung
      I heard my country calling, away across the sea,
      Across the waste of waters, she calls and calls to me.
      Her sword is girded at her side, her helmet on her head,
      And around her feet are lying the dying and the dead;
      I hear the noise of battle, the thunder of her guns;
      I haste to thee, my mother, a son among thy sons.

    Good morning ladies! Thank you so much for this, and your appreciation for us Brits! FYI - "I Vow to Thee, My Country" is a British patriotic hymn, created in 1921 when music by Gustav Holst had a poem by Sir Cecil Spring Rice set to it. The music originated as a wordless melody, which Holst later named "Thaxted", taken from the "Jupiter" movement of Holst's 1917 suite The Planets. (from Wikipedia) - this tune was also used for World in Union, written for the Rugby World Cup, first performed by Kiri Te Kanawa for the 1991 competition, and by Dame Shirley Bassey in 1999.

    Natasha, Debbie this morning is the national memorial ceremony from the cenotaph in Whitehall. The ceremony is very moving and has not changed in format for the entirety of my lifetime, I served for 23 years but was never lucky enough to be part of it. The march past by the vetrans at the end after the King lays his wreath on behalf of the nation is so moving. If I can find a link will send it. It would be a great subject for a future video. It is aways shown live by the BBC every year on Remembrance Sunday. If youv search for "Remembrance Sunday at the cenotaph 1991" is a great example.

      @@TheNatashaDebbieShow what's sad is seeing how the number of WW2 veterans has gotten smaller and smaller as the years go by. It's incredibly moving and well worth a watch, as the original poster said.

    I Vow To Thee My Country is the slow movement of Holst's Jupiter from The Planet Suite set to a poem by Sir Cecil Spring Rice. Holst had in fact already written the melody before he incorporated it in Jupiter; he called it 'Thaxted' a village where he lived for several years, & which is about 4 miles away from me.

    41 is not considered old by the medical profession. I was in hospital last week and my doctor said, "Oh you're still young." I'm 64. I said, "Oh thank you you're very kind." And he said, "no, seriously, we're seeing more and more patients in their 80s and even 90s these days. Medically speaking, 64 is young. Don't think of yourself as old till you're in your 80s, say 85." He made my day I can tell you. :)

    Ladies, I watch this on the morning of the official Remembrance Sunday - In the UK we hold this ceremony on the closest Sunday to the Eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour, when all hostilities between battle protagonists ceased. As a former Airborne soldier (2nd Bn Parachute Regt), I salute my fallen comrades around the world who gave their all for the freedoms (we) all now enjoy. I (also) take this opportunity to thank my brethren who served alongside me in the Falklands War of 1982, & for those who laid down their lives in prior actions - & of course, those brave men & women who continue to serve.
    My regimental motto is: Utrinque Paratus ~ Ready For Anything.
    Lest We Forget.
    Keep yourselves safe,
    Andrew 🙂

    In my village in Staffordshire we have a very beautiful porcelain poppy display on the main road… It’s the first time I’ve seen this… Whoever made this… you did a great job 👍
    These are the same as the poppies at the Tower of London … probably the most powerful form of artwork I’ve ever seen… 880,000 poppies each representing a soldier of the British and commonwealth armies
    The tune to “I vow to thee my country” is Gustav Holst..”Jupiter”… from the “Planet suit” Jupiter the bringer of jollity to raise the spirits..
