My nephew is a Royal Marine; my proudest moment was when he came home for my Mum's funeral, in uniform, and was one of her pall-bearers. (he had been overseas on manœuvres when Mum died and we didn't know whether he'd get home and be allowed out [covid] to be with family.)
Top Secret Drum Corps is a drum corps based in Basel, Switzerland. With 25 drummers and color guard section, the corps became famous for its demanding six-minute routine performed at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2003. With its invitation to Edinburgh, Top Secret became one of the first non-military, non-British Commonwealth acts to perform on the Esplanade at Edinburgh Castle.
Also, all members of Top Secret have civilian fulltime jobs, they are not in the military. Drumming is their hobby.
To see more of them, just search for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo's of the previous years.
@Ray Bainbridge BEM, About the Top Secret Drum Corps that Edinburgh Military Tattoo was NOT the ONLY Military Tattoo Event that they been to alone at all but other Military Tattoo Events like the (1 One) Moscow Military Tattoo in Russia in both of (2011 Twenty Eleven) & (2017 Twenty Seventeen), (2 Two) The Berlin Military Tattoo in Germany in (2011 Twenty Eleven), (3 Three) The (2019 Twenty Nineteen) Musikfest der Bundeswehr in Dusseldorf in Germany, (4 Four) The Royal Nova Scotia in Canada in (2023 Twenty Twenty Three), (5 Five) The Virginia International Tattoo in Norfolk in United States America in (2016 Twenty Sixteen), of course.
*PLEASE READ THE COMMENTS BEFORE COMMENTING PLEASE* This was one of the Coolest things we've ever seen!! We could have sat here for hours watching!! We hope you will Like it & hit the Like button. Thanks for watching and we LOVE the Military!!
Check out the royal tournament.
...and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
The Secret Drum Corps often perform there.
Hi Natasha and Debbie .
This was absolutely epic, I have watched this video many times and never get bored of it, it gets the adrenaline pumping for sure lol
Just a quick note about the top secret drum corp from Switzerland, they are NON military and not part of the British commonwealth but since they were invited to play at the Royal Edinburgh tattoo in 2003, they have become quite a sensation and have played drums alongside the British Royal Marines on numerous occasions, as for the Royal Marines, who are active servicemen in the royal Marines, they are just pure precision and talent on every level.
Hey Natasha & Debbie,Check out the Royal British Legion vestival of Remembrance 🇬🇧
The Royal Marines are an elite unit of the British military, the Swiss Top Secret Drum Corps is non military - but amazing musicians nonetheless.
My dad was a Royal Marine with both 40 and 42 Commando. My proudest, and saddest, moment was at his funeral, when the Marine Bugler played Sunset in the church.
Apparently, he'd practised by playing at Margaret Thatcher's funeral the day before.
My Dad too. Fought in WW2. At his funeral, the RM Training Depot at Lympstone sent a bugler to play at his funeral. The young soldier was, that same week in ‘08 deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
I was in the audience for this. Hairs on the back of my neck stood up then and now. As a RM veteran, have marched behind this band several times and am still lost in admiration of our fantastic band
This performance is already mind-blowing, but it actually goes to a whole other level when you know that this performance is not the result of months or even weeks of choreography and practice, but rather the Swiss I believe flew in to the UK just the day before, and the time to practice together was at most just a couple of hours. To me, the level you have to already be at to so quickly pick up a whole routine, especially one that uses moves entirely alien to the traditions of a Corps of Drums and not just confidently give such an important performance, but to do so with such flawless precision that you can't believe this is not the result of months or years of shared drills... Insane.
The Royal Navy field gun race is a must see, Two teams trying to kill themselves in the fastest time possible. It will blow your mind!! Another great video Ladies.
Definitely a must watch
@@andywatkins6796 yeah they must watch the field gun race, brilliant, saw it as a kid when we went to the royal tournament on a school trip.
Watch the Mast manning display if you wanna see some proper nerves of steel ⛵
@@marqpage3485 yeah i watched that, terrifying.
@@anthonymoore1705 I saw it the Mast Manning when I was at HMS Ganges the smallest recruit climbed all the way to the top(button) Not me.😅😅
*Before Everyone comments* We do know now that the Top Secret Drum Corps are not active military! Thanks!
Hi (again), if you Ladies are interested there is also the story of how the “UNKNOWN WARRIOR” was selected & transported to England. - Very Moving- ruclips.net/video/UixYxsPFoqc/видео.html
The RMBS also have their own Chanel running dropping ‘tunes’ most days. The Top Secret Drum Corps were at the 2017 Festival.
If you haven't already you should react to the Royal Edinburgh military tattoo!
glad you like it. The top Secret Drum corp are civilians from Switzerland, world famous. The Royal Marines Band Service also have other duties being military, so trained medics, plus all of them play at least two other instruments, plus, the drummers would have, in the past gone into battle to pass messages via their bugles! In my view, (I'm biased being a former Royal Marine Commando) our band is the best military band in the world.
IIRC, Top Secret draws their inspiration - at least for their uniforms - from the Basel city militia of the 1600s. But, very civilian these days.
Certainly the best, confirmed by an army Lt Col from an ARMY military band. It was my honour to be the Drum Major for a Royal Navy volunteer band (the RN has no band service, don't need one with the Royal Marines) for a brief time. Trained by a former RM Bandsman.
I would definately agree that they are the best.
Being former member of HM Royal Marines Corps of Drums, I am thrilled that you love this. An insider piece of info that you might find interesting is that the white cotton gloves worn by the RM Buglers (yes, all members of the Corps of Drums are referred to as Buglers) make holding the white gloss painted sticks difficult. We used to dampen them with clean water in order to aid grip. It was okay in warm weather but it was certainly felt in cold weather or on a cool evening.
I always wondered about the grip. Thanks for saying that.
Loved this. Giving a shout out to The Royal Navy here, a must see is the 'HMS Daedalus Mast Manning Team 1992 at East of England Show' This display used to be done onboard a ship but now it's done just using the mast so it can be seen around the country.
I just mentioned manning the mast in the comments just above
No, watch an original display by boy entrants at HMS Ganges, when H&S hadn't been invented!
Makes me proud to be British and I am so glad you enjoyed it.
Not many countries does pageantry like the UK, its Unique, plus all the skills
Nobody does it better 🇬🇧
Thank you sir
I agree 100% but you have to admit the Swiss are right up there.
It’s my ole lot. Ex RM Mtn Artic Warfare Unit/ Mtn Leader
You should watch the actual performance they gave in front of the Queen at the weekend.
wasn't it amazing, they are so precise, loved it.
I totally agree. I have been fond of this clip from the Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall five years ago, and watched it many times, but the performance of the two groups at the Royal Jubilee celebration is even better (and longer). Great stuff
We Brits are so proud of our amazing military including the Gurkhas, they are our heroes . The best military in the world ! No offence intended just a fact .❤️🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸
Wow great reaction ladies, there is something mesmerising about our old traditional stuff and I love that, our service men get the chance to show off like this and be enjoyed for there skills and not just war xx
Absolutely fantastic 👏 you certainly wasn't the only one with goosebumps.
As far as I am aware the Top Secret Drum Corps are not serving military. They are a military style drum team. The Royal Marines of course are serving soldiers as you can see by the medals and ranks on their uniforms. Both are awesome though and I bet they had a lot of fun working together. I suspect the reason US Marine uniforms are similar to Royal Marine uniforms are for obvious historical origin reasons.
As a Sea Cadet drummer, I had the honour of being able to learn from and play alongside the Bands of HM Royal Marines, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life
I was a bugler in the Army cadets band in Weston-Super-Mare and we often marched in the same processions as the Sea Cadet band, they were Amazing and hopefully many went into adult service.
@@chrisspere4836 Yeah, I know quite a few Sea Cadets (from my local unit and National) who have gone on to join the military bands. Mainly the Royal Marines, but some to the Army Corps of Music - so proud of them all.
Coordination at it's finest.
Amazing choice of video Ladies. It was EPIC!!!!. They work so hard to get it right. They have kept us all safe in times of national security.
I really enjoyed seeing the marine corps, very special, gets us into the jubilee spirit
As pro drummer from England i teach same type of drumming and drum kit. Yhe royal Marines drum group use English drums made England by British drum co owned by Al Murray.
I’m from the city of Portsmouth (Home of the Royal Navy) so was lucky enough to see these guys a few times every year growing up. Not uncommon to have our American friends visit the city too in their vessels 🇬🇧🇺🇸
I love your chanel, as a Brit living abroad(Austria) I love watching your take on all things Britain. I hope you both get a chance to get to Blighty and visit all the places that you review.
Keep safe, and please keep up the good work.
I'm obsessed by this. Saw them for the first time at the Queen's jubilee and have watched them a few times since on RUclips. The best!!!
If you watch the guy at the ends, they are playing with one hand on each 2nd hit.. thats propper insane
Absolutely perfection!!
As an ex British service man the amount if times I used to be able to see the military bands play I never got bored and was always amazed by them
Nothing quite like marching up a high st. with the band playing and that big bass drum reverberating around and the voice of your drill instructor in your head "Panache! Swagger!"
Out of this world awesome so so proud xx
I also second The Royal Navy Field Gun Race as something to react to!
Thank you for sharing the talents of these two amazing groups! 🇨🇭🇬🇧🇨🇭🇬🇧🇨🇭🇬🇧#AProudTopSecretAlum
In the light of some very unfair communications you have suffered. I’d just like to say A) I’m so pleased to see you both are ignoring it B) and as far as I’m concerned I’ve met quite a few Americans and you two are probably the most respectful and loyal allies we could hope to have.
Hi Natasha and Debbie, glad you loved the video. I was actually one of the Royal Marine Drummers on that performance, and worked alongside my Swiss counterpart to arrange and choreograph.
It was truly awesome to be a part of and I really loved and appreciated your reactions! Thank you. 😊 🙏🏼
Also of interest, I worked on the recent performance for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebration between Top Secret and the Royal Marines. 👍🏼
Well done to you fella top drumming royal marine bandsman top echelon of military music.
Many congrats. I'm a great fan of the Royal Marines band and drummers (but not as much as another member of the family who is a real aficianado) - very gutted not to be making it to see Beating Retreat next month after all.) The combined choreography /arrangement for this and the Jubilee performance at Windsor was stunning .. is it correct that it was all done with very little actual rehearsal at all? It may have been awesome to be a part of it, but its also a bit of a thrill to watch it as well 🙂
They appeared together at Windsor in the Queen's Jubilee Pageant on Sunday. TheQueen was there and apparently she is a fan of Top Secret and they were there at her special request and the Marines mean a lot to her.
Royal Navy Field Gun competition at Earls Court..
That was spectacular girls! Yo, the drummer boys!!
You should watch the rest of the show it was great
Motto of the Royal Marines
Per mare Per Terram
By sea By land.
A video to suggest would be the story of the unknown soldier performed by the Royal Marines band
You both have such enthusiasm, its very contagious. Really enjoy watching. subbed
Love from the North-East England ( UK )
Just Amazing, what precision. I would Love to see that Live. Another Topic That I think you would Love is The Royal Navy Field Gun Team from The Royal Tournament. They don`t do it anymore but it is just Epic in terms of sheer strength and Teamwork. Thanks for that one Girls 👍
@@wessexdruid7598 I didn`t know they still did the Field gun, I thought it died with The Royal Tournament. A friend of mine did it when he was in The Navy, I think he was in The Portsmouth team if I recall. He had one of the Wheel Cotter pins as a souvenir.
There were two forms of navy field gun competition, Command Field Gun and Brickswood Field Gun. The Command Field Gun competition ran during The Royal Tournament (which ceased in 1999) and Brickswood runs at HMS Collingwood (It is now called the The Royal Navy Field Gun Competition and still runs annually). There is a company that is trying to resurrect Command Field Gun for civilian athletes (Field Gun Sport)
Super cool to watch. Thanks for sharing this . I very much enjoyed it xx
So glad Tracey!!
Really glad you enjoyed this , could I recommend to you the Royal tournament gun race , you would love it .
And that's why I'm proud to be British 🇬🇧 So happy you guys enjoyed this.
When humans are clever and creative it makes you want to cry. I suggest you watch part of the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, where you see a representation of the change in Britain from pastoral to industrial age. I always get emotional at the spectacular end to that segment. Watch it and you'll see why.
Pandemonium? It's one of the best things I've seen. Visually stunning with amazing music! A must see to anyone who hasn't seen it.
@@chunkydembry5477 I've just watched it again with headphones to feel the drums and atmosphere. It's amazing. Fingers crossed they pick up on it and view it with the sound up!
It's mawkish
Check out the raf red arrows in USA it's epic
It all comes with loads of training and concentration. They must remain professional at all times especially in front of HM The Queen
Goosebumps anyone? :>)
Is there any chance of you watching What it takes to win the Victoria cross and The greatest raid of all. They are both amazing ww2 stories you will absolutely love
The drummers in the white helmets are the Brits.
Yes, as indeed mentioned several times throughout the video, but thanks for reiterating.
Thanks ladies
That was amazing! Always had a genuine respect for the Band of The Royal Marines but I have to say,the Swiss Secret Drum Corps were also uniquely entertaining too. Some unbelievably talented musicianship on display from all concerned. What a find! Thank you so much for sharing it with us 😊👍
Thank you so much for watching ❤️
Feels me with pride every time I see this.. coming from a military family then marrying a Artillery man, it’s the best reaction you’ve done 😊
Thanks for this girls😃I had the good fortune to have seen the Royal Marines play live as a boy, awesome 😍
First time I've seen the Swiss guard drums although I have heard of them..thank you for introducing them to me..will definitely look for more of them..
Not the Swiss Guard. Non-Military Drum corps started by 7 fiends from Switzerland in 93. Royal Marines were the only Military on the stage
Ans yes they were drumming each others drums
The show was fantastic, but this, and the display from Azerbaijan were incredible and highlights. I was also blown away by the artillery carriage display and the speed and skill of the horses and riders.
The Swiss drummers are civilians who drum part time...they have regular day jobs, which makes them all the more impressive. When they drummed with the British military drummers (The Royal Marines Corps of Drums) and integrated their routines with each other it was fantastic.
They are one of the very, very few acts that are so good they have been repeatedly invited to the Edinburgh Military Tatoo despite not being affiliated or part of the Swiss military.
Wow that was phenomenal 💕
As a drummer myself I can confirm that this takes serious talent
Fantastic girlies, I get goosebumps as well that's when I know something is good. Yes seen it before but can watch it more x
Fantastic! you might also like to check out the - "Highlights from Platinum Jubilee Celebrations - Royal Windsor Horse Show 2022". Its on youtube.
I showed the locals this(Lesvos) and they reacted the same as you! Royal Marines history starts in 1664! Secret Swiss are actually civilians who got together and play brilliantly, I’m ex Royal Navy and I’ll always be biased……but Secret Swiss are something else👍
Hi Natasha and Debbie, First of all I just wanted to say thankyou so much for the sincere words about the passing of the Queen. I am an english guy now living in Australia and was obviously following the ceremonies. Made me proud to be British.
I too love the military processions, bagpipers and drums. My dad served in the military and been brought up with this.
I was actually lucky enough to go to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. A dad and his lad trip. It was amazing. Will stay with me forever .
I see you like the Swedish Military Drummers. I was lucky to see them aswell, what a spectacle. I've sent you a link of another one of their performances, actually at the tattoo..a must watch. You will be blown away..trust me.
Other clips online show their drums and sticks light up but this one I have sent is on another level..
In addition to this, I have also added a link to a clip I came across just recently..It was of 90 drummers performing We Will Rock You...god I wish I was there..Thats one where the volume should be turned up...
Well thankyou again lovely ladies and keep up the good work. I will continue to follow you.. ..Andy x ruclips.net/video/YJVdnMAGIt8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/h_yecyMe28k/видео.html
Swedish Military Drummers is hilarious, assuming that you meant the Swiss Top Secret Drum Corps, who are actually all civilians with day jobs, not military. :)
That they are *not* military does not in any way diminish their standing. Being civilians with all the normal duties of life and families, yet still putting in the insane amount of practice that this level of skill and synchronicity takes is still an amazing attainment. Just as the Royal Marines Marching Band and Corps of Drums must still perform all the training, drills, and duties of being Royal Marines.
Hi ladies, Top Secret Drum Corps from Basel, Switzerland:
Back in the 70s, I was in the US DCI. Hitting the edge or sides of drums was not unacceptable. Stick twirling, spinning, tossing or tapping them together & on flag posts in rythym was unimaginable. These guys don't play drums. They play Art to an accuracy that's unbelievable for the complexity of their Drill & no others can compare !!!
I was there at the Royal Albert Hall and saw this live. I played drums at school, (and it’s a bit like riding bike, you don’t forget!). Seeing this live was a massive highlight. The energy was incredible. The Swiss group aren’t military, but are an amazingly good drum line, (and have performed all over the world). The Royal Marines speak for themselves. Just brilliant.
My late Dad was in the Royal Marines during WW2 & he always said that the R M band was the best .... a source of some teasing from my Mum who used to say "All Bow" when they appeared anywhere ..... but we all came to realise (teasing aside) that the reason my Dad was so proud of these musicians was that they were serving Marines who fought alongside him ..... Hearing them still brings a tear to my eye - and I love your reaction 💖
My dad's favourite band too.
I really love this, and never tire of watching them. Great stuff!! 🇬🇧
Great video, enjoyed your reaction!
Check out the British Light Division, Lots of bugle and drums with a unique style of marching. 🇬🇧❤️🇺🇲
Thank you! ❤️
Swift and Bold!
Check out Beardyman at the BBC proms. Absolutely amazing!
Each Regiment in the British Army has a corps of drums. They were an essential part of war hundreds of years ago along with the bugle to signal commands on the battlefield. I was in the corps of drums in the Royal Anglian Regiment when serving and we did shows around our local area, but, this is something else and special. I love your reaction to it and your other videos.
I’m an Ex British Soldier, I have a friend who is an American Marine, Deepest respect to your Father . I’m not sure if you’ve ever heard of the Edinburgh Tattoo ( from Edinburgh Castle) where members of the British armed forces and invited guests put on displays and demonstrations of their skills I don’t know if there are any clips on RUclips as I’ve never searched for it before but you’ll love the military bands/ corps of drums…or maybe the festival of rememberence. From the Royal Albert Hall in London
Thank for your words and double thank you for your service! ❤️
In 2018 I was in the second row when the entire RM band were doing the thing 10ft in front of me 30 drummers. It felt fantastic as well as sounding fantastic.
There is nowt like watching and listening to the very best ...as a Brit ...our guys did good ..just love them !!
An amazing video thank for this video ladys
The Royal Marines started in 1664.
So they've had loads of practice
@@mattyoung7415
Few of the original Marines are still alive today
Insane excellence and total precision! Wow.
These drummers are the best ever..yes years in the eyes every time I was them..
Thank you for put up amazing videos. We all appreciate all the work you both put in. Every week
Never tire off watching this it's actually saved in my favourites! Really glad you ladies enjoyed it and you've only touched the tip off the ice burg. Check out the royal tournament field gun competition and the Navy's Manning the mast display.
Natasha made me laugh 😂. I love her reaction. As a British myself I love the royal marines when they play the drums especially during the queen's jubilee celebrations I couldn't get enough of the drums. Love it and I watched it on BBC one and my daughter kept jumping and loved it.
Yeah that was cool 👌
Omg! Im so proud of each and everyone of those drummers. Turely amazing i never tire of watching anything like this. The hairs on my arms stood up so much i could off done a french braid on them lol. Im so glad you ladies loved that. I am so proud to be british, but have so much respect for every servicemen who risk their lives for our countries. Cheryl in UK 🇬🇧 😍
The Secret Drum Corp was The Queens favourite and she gave the UK military special permission to work and perform with them. They were also invited to perform for her at her recent jubilee as she enjoyed their show but also for respect to the history of the Switzerland 🇨🇭 heritage.
Fun reaction. Re US Marines: Check out Al Murray's take on US Marines in "Why the British are Undefeated World War Champions."
I have watched this a few times.
Thank you for sharing this video! Funny thing is I said out loud "Be still my heart" about 1.5 seconds before you did! I got teary eyed from the moment the Royal Marines stepped up on stage alongside Top Secret because I have watch both of these ensembles regularly and to see them joining forces filled my musical heart to overflowing. You two are awesome as well. I'm a new fan!
Top Secret are probably the finest civilian drum corps in the world - and the RM Corps of Drums probably the finest military one. They’ve performed together a few times, and it’s always a cracking show. Look for the RM drum and bugle display if you want a real treat.
You might also enjoy the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a yearly series of tattoos at Edinburgh Castle. Always a great show, with mostly military bands and performers from around the world - and always a display by the massed bands at the end. If you liked this video, you’re in for a real treat.
Looking down the line from one end at the start is like looking at two mirrors facing each other lol
I've served with a number of Marine Commandos over the years and one of my good friends is a former Marine
Bugler
If you enjoyed this it's definitely worth checking out some of the massed bands of the Royal Marines beating retreat which involves over 200 musicians from the Royal Marines. They were joined by US and Dutch marine bands in the 2014 beating retreat for the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines as well (One of my favourites from that was the US march Espirit De Corps, that was pretty epic).
Beating retreat 2022 which is at the end of this month will be the first time the massed bands will have come together since before COVID also, so it should be good.
And sadly, of course, it had to be abandoned until July thanks to the collapse of a couple of the stands during a rehearsal for Trooping the Colour. I was due to go, but it was not to be!
I love how enthusiastic and happy you are when you watch something you love! It makes me smile along too :)
Such big smiles at the end :-)
Duelling drums - brilliant! I would love to see this live 🤩
Swiss secret drum corps are amazing, best drum line you will ever see. They often perform at the Edinburgh military tattoo. They practice long and hard
Play pretty basic stuff, there are far better technical drum corps in the pipe band world.
I love this clip, have seen it before. The most interesting to me is when they play together. Their drums are carried differently. The RM are carried on traditional shoulder slings with the drum head at an angle while the TSDC are using modern shoulder carriers that hold the drum level.
the top secret drum corps are actualy a civilian band, was fortunate to see both at the Edinburgh tattoo 2012, epic show and not expensive
WOW!! BLOOMING BRILLIANT WHAT SKILLS THEY HAVE JUST EPIC!!👏👏👏🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Your initial reactions were brilliant and I knew you were both in for an incredible treat as it just gets better.
As a British army veteran i love it when our American cousins show such enthusiasm towards us, love this reaction :) i can 2nd what Rod stated 3 days ago, check out eh 'Royal Navy field gun competition' but look up the history of the competition first and the significance, i think you will be a bit enthusiastic about that ;)
That was AWESOME 👌
