yeah extraordinary stuff Top Secret , the HM Royal Marines and the Scottish National Pipe & Drum Corps and Military Band are the best of the best of the best
So glad you enjoyed it. Please remember the Royal Marines are all serving British military personnel, with a combat role. The medal ribbons and ranks worn are theirs.
Thank you, my friend! Here in the States, it's The Commandant's Own Marine Corps Drum & Bugle Corps. They will do exhibition performances during drum corps competitions, and they are amazing, too!
Good morning, Dawn! Completely amazing! All it takes is practice practice practice! That was such fun. I was thinking of you when I filmed this and knew you would be smiling!❤️
I was in The Hawthorne Muchachos in the mid 1970s. Jeff Kievit was the horn line Instructor, as he "aged out" the year prior. He was one of the best trumpet players I've ever heard, still to this Day. I remember the Show we did was extremely difficult with parts in 5/4 time. The left & right sides of the Corps had to hear each other to maintain synchronization. At one show, the bus with the uniforms didn't show up in time & we marched onto the field in our shorts & t-shirts. Then the worst possible thing happened. That field had an echo bouncing off the tall stadium walls in front of us. Both horn & drum acoustics coming back to our ears. I was on the right side. When listening to "synch" with the left side on the field, the guys couldn't decipher the actual playing vs the echos. We fell completely apart & at that point there was no turning back. After our performance there was barely any applause. The Top Secret Corps would've been compared to The Caballeros Senior Drum Corps. Those guys practice 12 hours/day & hold full time Day jobs. I am always amazed by their performances!
Thank for that great story. I love drum corps stories! Do you know the current president of DCA was a Muchacho? John Carr, who marched with them about that same time. I used to work with him promoting The March Of Champions in Kingston NY. The Cabs are still incredible but if you want to experience old school drum corps you have to check out the Cabs Alumni corps. They're always the highlight of every show they play. Thanks for watching!!
I have never seen the precision like that of Top Secret Drum Corps. They sound like a single snare which is what they are attempting to do. Those boys are far beyond anything I have ever seen before. I was in band in high school, drum and bugle corps at Lackland AFB and Shepard AFB early on while in the USAF. These guys cannot be beat.
@@BemusingBill Just a reminder, this performance is a smaller version of Top Secret Drum Corps. I have seen them perform with an additional 5 snares and 2 bass drum players. Their flag team also had more performers in it. Those performances were just as amazing as this smaller version of the group.
That was so much fun. Thanks to Iris for suggesting this video. I was smiling all the way through. It looked to me like Top Secret was using in ears. I couldn't see if the Royal Marines were or not. Makes sense that they would and just wondering if that is SOP for all drum corps these days?
That really was fun! I don't know if that's something all drum corps use these days but it's a good idea to reduce hearing damage. When I was on a bass drum line we would practice indoors and my left ear would go numb from the volume. That's when I started using ear plugs.I don't know if they are using them as monitors, or if they are hearing a metronome to keep time or they are for protection. I'm so happy you enjoyed that!❤️
Well, seeing how you opened this particular door, you may as well keep going and check out HM Royal Marines Bands doing Iron Maiden with Nico McBrain on drums! It’s a whole new level of unexpected eclectic awesomeness.
❤I love the drums so much, my son is a drummer and used to shake the whole house haha. It got to the point where the neighbors would stop in front of the house to listen to him😊
THANK YOU😍 Merry Xmas @BemusingBill ! The guys with the feathers are Swiss and the Royals are British of course ☺ that's all I know about it. So fun to hear your history with this!
I do LOVE those feathers & Musketeer hats!!! Thank you for the suggestion Iris. So much fun! That, right there is the very core of my heart. It's been a part of me since I was a wee bearded babe in arms 😁 A merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and yours, my friend! 🤘🎅🤘
They are Swiss, pretty much nobody else better at this type of performance/precision. US silent drill is the closest to this precision, but our UK friends, Royal Marines, killed it too!!
Hi Bill, my American Sinterklaas!🤣🤣I was surprised to see you reacting to this drum video but I don't mind it at all haha. I am a great fan of Top Secret. Imho they are the best of the best! You can hear them shout Top Secret in the beginning! They have performed at several Edinburgh Military Tattoos, which I always watch on the BBC as it sadly too expensive for me to go to Scotland. Top Secret always find new ways to entertain the public. They have performed in black light so all you can see is their white drumsticks and their white musketeer feathers. It is fantastic to watch and sometimes they have fire coming out of their sticks. They also use the flagpoles to drum onto. But their precision is phenomenal! Did you noticed that their snare drums are on the same level whether the drummer is small of large? And their white stockings also? Always a joy to watch. Greetings!
I'm so glad you're a fan! It's all about precision with Top Secret. If you don't watch and just listen you can hear how perfectly in synch they are with each other. And the Royal Marines are no joke either! You have to be to perform with TS! Yes, a modern snare line and tenor line will have all their drums match in height no matter how tall or short the drummer is not only for the visual, but for when they play each others drum. So cool! Love those stockings and those big ostrich plumes! Much love to you! Thankk you for watching!🤘❤️

My father was a big fan of pipe and drum bands and had a bunch of vinyl's (which now belong to me). I would love to check out this Edinburgh Tattoo since I've heard so much about it. I would love to react to drum corps performances but I don't think there is much of an audience for it.
Great reaction again, I love drummers. I looked to see if you had already responded to Junna, which you haven't yet. Junna does a drum cover of the group DragonForce which should definitely be seen and listened to, it will blow your mind. I am curious for your reaction! This was amazing.
The HOURS of practice time must be astounding to achieve such precision.

I bet you're right about beating them, although it's tough to say if they went up against the Blue Devil's drumline. I would love to see that battle!

Top Secret Drum Corp is Swiss, They are all amateurs. They are a display band, The Royal Marines are obviously a military band
Yes the First group you see are the Swiss Top Secret Drum Corps, they are a civilian group
Yes they are! I've never seen them here in the States. I wonder if they ever played an exhibition in any DCI or DCA competition? Thank you, my friend!
Imagine this coming towards you at the start of a battle
You can hear the difference the sound from the heads are between the 2 groups. It sounds like the tension on the Marines’ drum heads are looser.
I was in the Des Plaines Vanguard. Our drum line was really good, but nowhere near this good. Wow! I enjoyed this immensely.
I remember them! They were a great corps, too. Sad how many have passed into history. So happy you enjoyed this! Much love ❤️
