      i have a concern that i have noticed in this film. i followed the route of the house. i just noticed something though, the parents of Flora sleeps in Viola's room. so any explanation on that? since she always walk around every night? really weird.... but there was one scene also that Becs question the mud on the floor, but not on the way to Flora's parents- charlotte. so at first i was thinking there are other rooms. till i rewatched some scene.

    It was haunting without being "scary" in the traditional sense. The loss of self, loss of hope and loss of love are far more resonant and deeply terrifying than jump scares and creature effects. The last episode had me bawling. Amazing, amazing work, I wish I could give the whole cast a hug

      Perfectly said! I think too many people went in expecting the traditional sense of “scary”. I put myself into Jamie’s shoes, and all of the other characters with their love stories, and felt it deeply. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m married and a softie in my old age now 😂 But I felt Jamie and Dani’s story. My husband is my best friend and neither of us have no idea how long we have together. As morbid as it sounds, you never know how long you have anyone you love in your life. So you have to enjoy every day with them.

  • @chavezshaw7390
    @chavezshaw7390 4 года назад +98

    Idk why people compare this to Hill House, there's a reason Flanigan made it an anthology. Maybe the show just isn't for you, Hill House was meant to be scary and it's clear this was meant to use horror as a way to develop characters, not become that scary. Idk but I just think if you compare it to Hill House you're never gonna get that much out of the show.

    • @Luu904
      @Luu904 4 года назад

      Even tho Hill House was scarier, I also found it sadder than this one, maybe it’s because I don’t connect with couple love stories that much, hill house was about the struggle of a family and the last episode had me in tears, this one was sad but I didn’t cry. Also in my opinion Bly was super super slow until the last 3 episodes, and I loved the plot twist of Hill House, Bly didn’t have any

    • @kenjinpiniteu
      @kenjinpiniteu 4 года назад +1

      @@Luu904 Hard agree. I loved Bly Manor as I read The Turn of the Screw and watched The Innocents (very early adaptation of the said book) when I was younger, but Hill House hit me deeply. Maybe because it dealt with grief and isolation and loss (and also probably because I watched it for the first time just a month after my own grandmother's death, and my grandfather's 1st death anniversary) but it really hit me. I wasn't 'scared' as much as I was just on a downward spiral at the time. I enjoyed Dani and Jaime but I've also never been one to resonate with couples in films, but I did resonate deeply with a lot of characters in Hill House because so many of their issues (not the haunting ones, but the miscommunication and resentment) mimic my family's and, yeah, Hill House was a wild ride that I've never managed to stop thinking about XD
      It's been 2 years and I still think about it almost once a day lol

I also still think about it a lot, the music was amazing as well and it had a better story, with more plot twists in my opinion. I'm sorry about your grandma, may she rest in peace :)

    This story is so much about grief and loss. It's not a 'bury your gays' ending because _nobody_ has a successful relationship on the show. Dani just watching her old fiance's memory ghost by the fire was cool.
    Hannah Grose's after-death experiences reminded me of Tibetan Book of the Dead instructions on the bardo between lives, where parts of you are stripped away piece by piece and if you can keep your wits about you then you can go into the light, like Hannah did. Sorry, this is off topic and I loved Bly Manor, but are we not getting a 2nd season of Hill House? I have seen on Google that it was to be released Oct 9. Per communication with Netflix, they gave me no information at all.

    Given how many times this story has been adapted... Mike Flanagan works his magic the best!

    I want to get into this show so bad but I can’t. After coming from watching Hill House to Bly manor there’s a BIG difference to me and honestly Hill House just tops it

    As a Brit it's so annoying that this is ment to be set in England but there are to many American thing in this. Just to list a few
    The way the buildings look
    The class room
    The fact they have a British flag on the deck of the teacher.
    The clothing style of the English people
    The age of the cars being use
    The way English characters speak.
    There a laundry shoot in the house.
    Sooo many more things

    There's also a 2015 brazilian adaptation called "Através da Sombra" (Through the shadow) that moves Bly manor to brazilian countryside in the early 20th century. The movie tries to maintain the atmosphere and ambiguity, but unfortunately it not succesful.

    The comment section though... It's so ridiculous when people feel entitled to declare something is "trash" and leave nasty comments simply because they didn't like the style...

    I was disappointed. It wasn't bad but it was not as good as the Hill House. The Hill House had scares and emotions. This one was more on emotions (a little too much).

    Am I the only one that likes Hill House better than Bly? The ending of Hill House destroyed me emotionally, Bly’s ending was sad but didn’t make me cry, also Hill House wasn’t as slow as this one and had a huge plot twist and better music

    Can I just say that this show is so much better than the movie adaptation “the turning”. The movies ending SUCKED in my opinion. At least the show tried to explain what happened. Anyways highly recommended this show!!
