At first it made me sad bc I knew before watching that they got together and was disappointed they ignored each other at first, but now I realise they didn't ignore each other, they just didn't need to speak to communicate, and they already knew one another.
I just can't stop thinking about one thing: in the last shot, we saw Dani's hand on Jamie's shoulder. It meant that she had been with her lover all this time but she never let herself be seen by Jamie because she knew what it could do to her after what happened with her ex. She loved her so much that she always stayed with her but she never showed herself because that's how true love is isn't it? I never knew I'll love their story this much. P.s I'm in love with Dani's hair 😅
She never showed herself to Jamie because if Jamie saw her, she could say "it's you, it's me, it's us" and Jamie would be trapped with Dani instead and neither would ever move on. Love isn't possession after all.

This is actually a really painful decision to make and a powerful message. I think Dani's ending in a way represents those with a mental challenge or chronic disease, it's easy to give up in relationships because of the seemingly inevitable heartbreaks. Never give up thinking that you're a burden. Dani didn't give up, she only let go to protect Jamie from physical hurt. Like Owen said, "To truly love someone is to accept the work of loving them is worth the pain of losing them." It's true that Owen lost his mother long before she was gone, but even then she was never really gone as Flora said, death doesn't mean gone. Every love story is a ghost story because of its power to transcend time and "haunts" the living. I realized I've been quoting a lot but I couldn't have said it better myself so here's the last one from Nell, "I loved you completely and you loved me the same, that's all. The rest is just confetti." When the Hill House family were apologizing to Nell for how their final moments went, Nell simply replied they weren't their final. Like how Hannah kept going back to her favorite memory with Owen after she died, it's what truly counts in the end.

Realizing the reason 8: "she makes her laugh" takes up pretty much every scene in the movie and thats why i think this works, because they are both broken, both of them need to be reminded that there's still good things worth caring for in their own way. Jamie takes Dani out of the shadows and Dani proves her that she can actually work hard for something and be rewarded. Imma need a year or so to get over this😭🤗
Dani and Jamie were one of the healthiest wlw couples on television. I wish they had gotten a happy ending. They were so in love with each other. In the final episode of season 1, when Damie proposed to Jamie, and she said "And I know we can't technically get married" I just burst into tears because the show was set in the 1980's and gay marriage wasn't legal yet :( These two forever own my heart. When Jamie was screaming "You, Me, Us" to Dani when she was drowning at the bottom of the lake, that had me sobbing. When it showed Dani's hand with the ring resting on Jamie's shoulder in the last scene of the last episode, I just started crying all over again. Jamie and Dani deserved so much better.
