Great video, guys. I agree, this figure just excels at... standing there. I love when Star Wars does a bright red design, and this figure just has so much presence on a shelf.
I didn't even think about Hasbro using scene specific figures as an excuse to skimp on accessories, but it makes sense in hindsight. I was so used to it, that I remember being a bit stunned that the Mafex Mando 2.0 had so many accessories since he never had them all at once; they just included everything.

Seriously an underrated figure. The hidden armor underneath the soft goods is such a nice touch. Definitely need to pick up more of him. Certified banger!

Yeah I got 2 of these guys and 2 of the condor jax figures as elite guards. I have the shadow guard (wish they would re-release him) as well as 3 of the senate guards. Love the royal guard.

i' m done with black series, i canceled all orders and i am currently selling off all the ones i have through the black series collectors facebook page and on market place. i just can't get caught up anymore and it's just too costly to do so.

I recently lost a biker scout's blaster (disappeared in the sink). So I thought to myself, OK, I'll take the blaster from the Roayl Guard, it's the same after all! ...it didn't fit in the holster because it's mirrored! Has anyone ever noticed this? 🤔 🤓

I didn't know they were mirrored but I did know they were different as the Guard shooter doesn't fit the Scout's little "pinch finger" shooter hand when I tried...
@@davidedge2828 I thought the reason would be the holster is on the opposite side, but of course the guard holds it in his left hand because the right hand is sculpted for the force pike pose.
@@robbvanderstoel7725 Absolutely! I tried a while ago and my memory may be fuzzy, but I don't think the guns are quite the same size either?
@@robbvanderstoel7725 I'm talking rubbish! Here's the definitive answer. The Guard and Scout pistols are mirrored, so are actually different weapons. They are the same size as well and both pistols fit in the Scout's right hand and both fit in the Guard's left. Both pistols fit in the Guard's somewhat generic holster, but only the Scout pistol fits in the Scout's ankle holster. There are tiny discrepancies with the sight of each gun and the trigger protrusions, but I cannot be certain if these are deliberate or due to the production differences in such a small accessory.

I definitely agree with you both, this is an amazing figure. I myself have 4 of the Royal Guards figures not including the Comic version that I also have.
I have 2 of the black armored versions, 2 Imperial Senate Guards that I also modified with blue capes, and just 1 of the Republic Senate Guard figures. I want at least one more of the Old Republic Senate Guard figures. Hasbro an easy figure for main line release for Phantom Menace, just saying.
Yes the figure can be improved with butterfly joints and deep cut arms as well. I'd get at least one or two with those improvements.

Senate Guard in blue would be a GREAT archive release. I must say I caved and bought the 40th ROTJ Carbonized Amazon 2 pack with the RG and Tie Pilot and it elevates this figure in a new way. I may have to buy another set to have 2, the carbonize paint pops this helmet in a sharp almost lifelike way in 1:12 scale. Excellent figure great design with the soft goods.

I thought I heard the 40th ROTJ has slightly improved robes (a little shorter maybe?). I’m going to go look for video evidence. There’s one left at my GameStop, but it’s the only Black Series figure that’s not discounted at the moment.

As always, you guys are right on point, I couldn’t agree more. Last month on my own small channel I did a list of my favorite black series. Figures and the royal guard was in the top five. You’re so right, it’s still looks good, it holds up, I don’t think you could really improve on it unless you wanted to completely re-sculpt everything from the ground up, but I don’t think that’s necessary. I own five, gotta get one more. Totally agree, a wicked banger for the ages.

Royle Gard is absolutely banging. Does what it says on the tin. A fantastic thing. Got 4 surrounding Palps, Carnal Jack and the blue gg one, there also, the blue Phantom Menace one, and the sublime Black version is even better!! Got the Jedi card safely in acrylic for all time, and got the Carbo version in acrylic too, which is a ting 'o beauty in itself.

I myself have four of them, two of the all black with saber staffs, two blue Imperial Senate Guards with saber staffs( I modified with blue capes), and one original Republic Senate Guard with his rifle. I wish I had at least one more Republic Senate Guard figure. Hasbro it's time for the Republic Senate Guard figures to return as a main line release.
I also have a Kurt Kanos figure.(probably messed up the spelling) LoL 🤣.

Answer to your final questions, Yes you are both crazy but we love you for it, and yes you are on the mark on this one. Great figure for it's time and still holds up to this day. I was glad back in the day this figure had it's own unique body and not reuse because the body was covered by the robe, but if I lifted up the robe and saw shorts, and sneakers how do I know that wasn't movie accurate?

I’ll always remeber when Crimson Empire came out. For me the Guards were the only OT characters more mysterious than Boba Fett and the fact that we saw them as bad ass elite warriors in the comics was amazing

Did you guys made a review for the carbonized version? I think that the metallic paint works on the figure, it would be interesting to see how two of them look beside the emperor instead of the normal ones.

I only have Kir Kanos and I was surprised at how well the articulation on the Royal Guard body has aged. They really need to release the real Carnor Jax to complete the duo.

@@OutOfTheBasementI actually don’t like that helmet. I always wanted to try a head swap with the gaming greats imperial senate guard, but that’s an expensive risk having to get the 4 pack.
It's a way better figure than I thought it was. I always thought it was a traffic cone under the robes like Mon Mothma, now I know different! Might have to get a couple now. On a related note, do the hands come off the archive release of Palpatine? I'd like to put the lightning hands off Darth Sidious on him.

I never really cared for the royal guard when I collected 3.75, but the TBS one immediately made the costume one of my favorites in the franchise. I tracked down the original Kenner robe sewing patterns online and redesigned them to be compatible with (and a little more film accurate, given that the original inner robe on the kenner figure is basically a hospital gown and open at the back) for one of my royal guards and ended up with one of my favorite figures in my collection when I finished sewing. Been addicted to tracking down royal guards ever since.
Been addicted to getting royal guards ever since. Currently just missing the Shadow Guard and Senate Guard to have the full set (minus the sequel guards, since I don't care for those armor designs). I've even done a pop and swaps with a bit of painting to make a carbonized version of Kir Kanos, just to give me an excuse to put another guard on the shelf since I have a self imposed rule for saving shelf space by not having any duplicate figures. The Kenner style robes also meant I could have 2 different versions of technically the same guard on my shelf since they have different soft goods.
Hoping we eventually also get an actual Carnor Jax someday though haha
