I purchased the asus GT ROG a/c5300 router because I wanted the fastest wifi I could get . I pay for 300mbps/20mbps from my ISP. First off, the router worked beautifully! DL speed was getting 245. I was cool with that. Then, I noticed the prompt for a firmware update. After I updated the firmware , the router took a complete dump! I could not get any speed greater than 12mbps DL. I was pissed! I took it back to Frys and got my $400 back. I then purchased the lesser RT5300 as featured in this video. I also paired it with the Asus PCE AC88 network card. OMG< my sh$t is fast! I had a party at my house and 30 connections to the 2.4ghz band. I tested the speed at speedtest.net. My DL on my desktop was consistently 84 to 91mbps DL, and 20 to 23 up. However, on both 5ghz bands, my DL speeds were consistently 295 to 351mbps DL! 24mbps upload. So then, I tried to push it. I opened 25 youtube videos simultaneously, in addition to the 30 guest connections, my son was also online gaming via ps4. I couldn't believe that I was still getting 350mbps on both 5ghz bands. Man, I love this freakin router! Btw..., I'm being prompted to update my firmware but f#ck that sh!t!

From alot of reviews I have read the RT-AC5300 is better than the ROG-AC5300...

Great tip about the WiFi Analizer. After checkng my locality with the app it seems almost all my neighbours were using the same WiFi channel as myself. Switched to an empty channel as you suggested & the improvment was immediate.

I bought this router to upgrade to wireless AC from wireless N. I had the N66U. This thing is way overkill for a home with 2 residents. However if you got lots of kids with tons of devices and have a lot of smart home clients this is a great choice for all your security cameras, google home minis,alexas,nests,smart appliances,televisions,set top boxes,cell phones, tablets,wireless headsets,game systems,office equipment, and etc...if you have a crap ton and I mean a crap ton of devices connected, this is a good one.
does it allow you to set the bandwidth speed on each device connected?

Just bought this router today. Thanks for the information but I couldn’t stand the background music long enough to watch the full video. I’m sure I can figure it all out myself when I install the new router in a few days...
Hi great video but could you please tell me how to enable wan access it’s easy to disable but can’t seem to enable it cheers soon as I set the air protection on the web access from wan disables and I’m sure you mentioned it should be on also thanks for getting back to me on my previous question it helped loads because things like this baffles me thanks

from the router homepage select > then DDNS from that it will ask you to turn on DDNS once done it will show server default is asus.com it will ask you to enter a hostname that can be anything that you are going to remember.
Once done click apply. Now to allow Remote access Find the page Administration then go to system under (Local Access Config) I have Authentication Method set to both underneath this you will see remote access config before turning this on you will need to note down the HTTPS page this will allow you to access your router outside your own network Once set to yes click apply then you will need to use this to connect to your router or 192.168.1.1
I enjoyed this video, but you got a future if you script this stuff till you get a bit better. But some of the stuff you were doing was annoying. But overall great video and I learned a lot getting a rog tomorrow!
Alphonzo Turner Alphonzo Turner from what I've been told the rig and RT-AC5300 the is no much difference. On amazon the rog has bad reviews compared this model.

Hi where do I put the bt address into this router as I can see it connected but it’s not sending anything out
You can put this address into any browser connected to that router either by wi-fi or direct via LAN into a laptop, you can even connect using most mobile browsers, the mobile app is more for maintaining the router. I would also backup any setting once complete the setup so you can easy restore to them if the is any firmware updates. Hope this helps

I am confused should i go for RT Ac 5300 or Gt Ac 5300. Whats the difference? Whats both release date? Pls if someone know reply.
It more then likely the new version of the router it probably has wifi6 which is faster speeds for wifi devices. Most of the setting would still be the same.

is this a modem to not just a router
No you need a modem normal when fibre is installed you will ha an BT openreach modem for the UK. U.S normal has cable direct into house if I'm not mistaken.

Distance is real good. it the best from the other routers I've used I would however use Wifi analyser play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer to find out what channels is being used in your aeaa as this can increase the wifi strength. hope that helps
One more thing, I myself have a youtube channel which has just hit 8 million views/25k subs. So I hope you dont get offended by my offering some free advice? In future if could you try increasing the volume of your voice or even consider dropping the backgroud music altogether when your speaking, it would be a real improvment to your channel as the information you're giving out in the videos are far too importaint to be muffled by background music. Liked & subbed.
I have one of these router and I have one problem...
* I have the 3 band working separately...
* I used 5.1 for me and wife and 5.2 for kids
* In my room I run a speed test on the 5.1 and is slow (I paid for 150) and I receive between 60 and 80 only on that room, but when a suich to the 5.2 the speed it's always around 170, I call Asus and ask why, they said was normal.
5.1 : all the house the speed is 170, my room 60 and 80.
5.2 all the house 170 my room 170.
I wonder why, any of you have the same problem? I think it's not normal like the Asus guy said.

Use WiFi analyser see what you the best channels not being used in your neighbourhood.
This should increase your Internet speed.

You need to know that the God Awful background music is just that God Awful! In addition it's TOO LOUD for background music and totally distracting. There are certainly people like me and others that don't like that music to bewgin with, it's a mistake to assume that everyone does. Not to pile on, but a narrator should NEVER read the contents when the are clearly displayed on the screen. People can read it as it's on the screen and if not, they will read it later. The personal commentary is TOO LONG, however, the material is pretty good. hopefully, in your next video, things may change a little. Thanks though for the good intentions...
