Yayyyyy!!!! My favorite Mandy in the whole world!!!! I follow allot of Mandys and you’re my number ONE!!!! You and Steven remind me so much of me and my sweet Richard!! I lost him to cancer 2 yrs ago and my world has never been the same!! If he was at work he would call me on the way home and the first thing he’d say was Hey Sugar, what’s for supper?!? I miss those phone calls and I miss cooking for him! That man loved to eat!!!! When he got too sick to eat I would still cook and purée his food. Bless his heart, he lived off of potatoes and potato soup the last 2 weeks and of his life. I miss him dearly but I know without a doubt that he’s rejoicing in Heaven with my Mama and my precious grand daughter ❤❤❤❤. I love y’all and I hope you and your sweet family are happy and healthy ❤❤❤
@tinashort9098 I’m so sorry for your loss and honey, I feel you’re pain bc I also lost my husband four years ago to brain cancer. We were married 39 years. He loved my cooking and always called me after he left work for the day. He was also wanting to know what’s for supper. I also worked. I tried quicker dishes during the work week and cooked bigger better meals on the weekend. Prayers and a big hug.
You had asked about the use of the term "mama". I was raised to say "yes ma'am" and "no mama" etc. I was literally thrown out of school once for using the term " ma'am". I remember crying. I think it was the 4th grade.
Mandy, to start I absolutely love you precious family and I enjoy your show. I'm 65 and I wanted to share with you my "ma'am" experience. I was living in Texas with my 3 small children 6,7, and 11. It was time to move back home to Tennessee and I had gone to the hospital where I was a surgical scrub to get paperwork done. I put the children in the Dr's lounge while I did the process. A very prominent neurosurgeon came to the desk and asked who's children were in the lounge. I said oh Lord mine, are they being bad. He said oh no, I didn't even know they were there until I turned around and saw 3 little blonde heads sitting there, but what I want to know is how did you teach them to say sir and ma'am. I told him it's the way I address them. To this day my 39 to 44 year old children still use sir and ma'am and I proud to say my great grandkids also have those beautiful southern manners. Love you guys❤
Love that you love your mother-in-law as a Mom. I only had my mom for 19 years of my life. I was truly blessed to have a wonderful mother-in-law for over 30 years of my life.
I’ve always called my kids ma’am and sir. Usually it’s not a respect thing. It’s more of a you’re being inappropriate, check yourself thing! Love y’all so much! ❤
Mississippi girl here, born, and reared - EVERY one is a sir or a ma'am to me, including my pets! We were taught to call my mama's friends Mr and Miss with their Christian names, too. Every one else, we called Mr and Miss with their surnames. I'm 65 now, and still doing it, and brought my daughter up the same way. TFS!
Santa needs to bring Gracie her own block of cheese. She seems to adore any type of cheese. I love how she talks of wanting cheese. Have a great weekend to you, your family and all your viewers.
Three grown sons!! Yep I survived! They always say Ma'am and Sir to elders and most anyone else. Raising a Southern Gentleman is AWESOME! ( My bonus kids use manners at our house. Not at home! Bless those parents hearts!) Receiving compliments on their manners is such a BLESSING! Love your videos! IT IS FOR SURE A SOUTHERN THANG!
I think that having Gracie part of the family cooking process is wonderful. I have two dogs. I have some cats in which that my wife has asked me early on to feed one of them who looked pretty thin. Come to find out “she” kittens. I have yet to catch her and have her fixed. I now have seven cats running around my yard along with a few other strays that show up at feeding time, but it is so funny that the cats go to the back door and sit there when they know it’s time to eat, once I feed them they go away I’m not a cat person, but I am not looking to get rid of the cats because they are a part of my outdoor life as well as one of my dogs been able to run and chase them. When I go out and cook on the grill, I will turn around and look and sure enough. All of the cats have arrived ready for me to feed them, and I have nothing to give them most of the time but I can hear Gracie talking to me, saying give me something.
Coming from south Louisiana myself and being a Cajun we were raised to respect our elders by saying yes ma'am no ma'am yes sir and no sir and thank you and please and you're welcome but I still do it now at my age I'm an elder because when I say it I am being respectful to the person I am like you Mandy even if it's a 2-year-old I will say ma'am or sir and called my dog my little man even though he's in heaven now with my daughter I still call anyone with respect ma'am or sir even an animal. 👩🦳💜
I love the “son-in-love” comment from Steven. My late daughter and her boyfriend were together over 20 years before she died, and a friend always referred to him as my “boyfriend-in-law.” 😸
MANDY, "momma n' them" is a part of our Southern vocabulary, as much as Mam and Sir. All young ones in my friend circle call me Ms Sandi, no matter their age. You are correct, it is all about respect. Love you two❣️
I have always used Ma’am and Sir that’s what my parents instilled in me. The younger generation sometimes get offended but I still say it like you said it’s called respect.
The ingredients for these casseroles are going on my shopping list for Sunday when my son can take me grocery shopping. I'm in Wisconsin and I was taught that everyone is Ma'am and Sir and Miss, Mrs, and Mr.
I am from SC, but live on Prince Edward Island, in Canada, I work in a grocery store and people are always striking up a conversation to hear me talk, it makes them giggle when I say ma'am, or sir, or, of course, "bless ya heart", and my favorite customer, a very old man, I call Mr. Henry, will not leave until I tell him, "Y'all come back and see us now, ya hear", and cackles as he walks away. I love these folks!
I was raised in Washington State (my mother grew up in Illinoise) - but my mother and father told you never to call anyone older by their first name. It was always Mr. or Mrs. and close friends of my parents Aunt and Uncle. I now have second cousins calling me aunt Diana and I say to them call me Diana and they say OHHH NO. lol Love the 3 of you !
I'm in Texas and my mother-in-law got us hooked on Holmes Sausage. She preferred the one with jalapenos. Holmes is a Texas company and their sausage was served at the inauguration of George W Bush. I was raised to respect every one whether my elders or not by using Mr./Mrs./Ma'am/Sir. At 73 I still do it. It's a Southern Thang! I will make the Sausage Casserole and the Beef Enchilada Casserole when we get our 4 days of winter down here.
I think they are how we were taught to interact with adults. The lady who lived next door to us growing up was Mrs. Plember, she was Mrs. Plember until the day she passed away and still today. She will forever be Mrs. Plember. She was the nicest person and is missed at family functions! It was at that time good manners, I raised my children to have manners. I would always tell my kids whenever they were leaving to take along their manners! Until next time, much love and many prayers. 💖💖
Ma'am and sir are not just southern things but also due to your proper upbringing. Yes it is respectful....and more should teach their children this...part of what is wrong with this world today! From Montgomery al ❤️ 💕
These casseroles look delicious. My elderly long hair dachshund who is blind has decided that she must be part of our conversations. She has a gurgle in her bark when she starts talking to us and shaking her head. Dachshunds can be very hardheaded and demanding, even more so when they are elderly!
I appreciate it when I hear ma’am or sir. It is a sign of southern manners and is expected. I call anyone ma’am or sir regardless of age. I call my cats ma’am/sir too. We have 5. 6 inch ribbon curls “Elf”.
I look forward to seeing every time you post. I 8/10 times try making your stuff. But I think the real reason I love watching your stuff is because you seem so real. You and your hubby make me laugh every time. I have had a struggle the last few year medical wise and had to take a leave from work. On the days I’m not able to get around I will just look up your channel and watch for hours and laugh and just feel better. I’m from Iowa but your personality makes me want to move south!!! Thank you both for putting a smile in my heart. And new ideas for meals!!
I am 76 years old and Ma'am and Sir everybody!! I am so SOUTHERN that I "baby" and "darlin'" them too!!! I am a native TEXAN and I wouldn't have it any other way! Thanks for being who Y'ALL are. I appreciate you so much!
I just made the sausage casserole for the first time for supper this evening. It was delicious! To answer your question related to Minute Rice, I am 62 years old and never used anything but Minute Rice until this past year when I started watching RUclips channels that used regular long grain rice. I now use both but still prefer the instant rice because it’s what I know best. LOVE your channel and all its content!
I am from Georgia and was raised to say ma'am to anyone older not younger. I was also taught to any Aunts or Uncles I had to say Aunt or Uncle before their name even when I was grown. We southerners have sayings as a matter of respect to whom we are speaking. Thank you for the recipes, can't wait to try them!
My daughter and son in law got married Saturday. It was a truly beautiful ceremony. I also got the news that we are officially foster parents as of yesterday and will be adopting my nieces kids soon. Gracie says more cheese momma. For some good heat get the spicy enchilada sauce. On the more cheese, pictures or it didn't happen. Lol
lol I have always called my DIL daughter-in-love from day one. She has been a wonderful part of our family and continues to love and care for my son. IF you deserve being (anything)-in-love you are a great person. It is a special relationship for sure.
I was raised in the South by a father who was in the Navy. Double Whammy. Im like you, I say yes sir/yes ma'am to EVERYONE. Sometimes even pets and inanimate objects. It's a sign of respect 😊
Fellow southerner here! I do the same thing with ma’am and sir. Especially with anyone older than me! Also, I still use Aunt and Uncle in front of their names. I’m grown now but that’s the same as Mr. or Mrs., it’s a sign of respect. I will never call my aunts or uncles by just their name. Manners were taught and excepted of us as children. And I felt it in my bones when you called Gracie “little girl”!! I knew I was in trouble when my mom said that! 😂 You’re over 40?!?! Girl you look fabulous! I’m new to your channel and I had no clue your age!
Yes Ma'am. Being southern it is instilled in our DNA to say "Yes/No Ma'am/Sir. And you addressed the neighbors/church members as ex: Ms. Mandy or Mr. Steve. I m from western KY. I also love when Steve talks in southern lingo. I will be shaking my head yes every time he does it like you can see me. lol. I love the momma n nem!! I say that ALL the time!! LOL.
I love that you call people "Mam". I knew it was a sign of respect. In our culture we call everyone Aunty & Uncle if they are older than us (well friends) anyway. Strangers or people we don't know too well we call My dear or Sir
As a fellow South Carolinian, I can verify that at almost 68 years old, I called my mother-in-law Mrs. XXXX until the day she passed away in 2020. I always called her husband, Dr. XXX. It was just a form of respect and love. I was as close to them as I was to my own mother.
I used to drive a school bus and I said yes ma’am and yes sir to all my students from PRE-K thru 12th grade. It’s all about respect! My school bus kids knew that was required! My own 2 girls - now 21 and 25 - KNOW that you had better be polite and say yes/no ma’am/sir to everyone no matter age! Southern roots grow deep - From Texas 🇨🇱
I totally agree with the usage of Ma'am & Sir. I have always used them and when I moved to Florida and called ladies I worked with Ma'am I was told they were not old enough. I still went on as I aways had done. Gracie Lou got something started...tis so cute...Love Gracie Lou. Sausage Casserole sure looked good! Thanks for sharing!
I always refer to people as Ma'am and Sir. It is just part of being raised in the South (Alabama). Thanks you so much for these. I am going to make them all.
I grew up in the South, too, Ma'am. And Ma'am, Miss/Miz, and Mr./Sir are all shows of respect to me. I continue to refer to people I respect for whatever reason by these titles. I am still kind of delighted and "surprised" to be receiving the same kind of courtesy/respect these days. :) Great recipes, MA'AM! Thank you again and again! And Hello, Ms. Gracie!!! :)
I grew up in Georgia/Alabama and yes, we call every woman a "Ma'am" and think nothing of it. These recipes sound and look so good! I can't wait to try them!
Definitely going to try the ham, broccoli, rice casserole first! Our dog, Bella, knows the sound of the drawer in the fridge where we keep the string cheese and comes running. I endearingly laugh at Gracie when she is impatient until she gets her cheese😊
I also called ppl ma'am and sir, Mr, Mrs. Yes , Please, thank you. Was a military kid and my dad is southern. My grandma cared us daaarlin😂 I loved it!!
Im the same! Ma'am is a term of respect and/or endearment. I'm not changing it! I've lived on Kansas most of my life, and Colorado for about 20 years. But my mother was born and early years on Eastern Tennessee. That's where it started. God bless all here. 😊😊😊
Oh Mandy! Yes! Everyone is either Ma’am or Sir! Doesn’t matter how old or young they are! My sweet dog Bella and my Naughty (yet wonderful) kitty- K. Mittens are also Ma’am’s 😂 Most often said like this… “Bella! No Ma’am! Hush!”- and then… “K. Mittens! No Ma’am! Get down!” 😊🐈⬛🐕 I love your channel and all of here love Miss Gracie Lou!
I'm a West Tennessean and I have always called people ma'am and Sir, now matter their age. I got a cheese grater like yours after seeing how easy it is to use. I am in love with that thing!
I'm from NC and say yes ma'am to all females, even those who could be my grandchildren! Same with gents. Love your channel-you and Steven/Stephen are a hoot!
My son has called our cat ma'am since we brought her home. It gives me such amusement everytime, and when I heard you call Gracie ma'am I laughed out loud. The both of you have me calling her ma'am now too.
Love the casserole recipes. Thank you. I call people Ma’am and Sir as a sign of respect. When I moved up North, (big mistake) I immediately found out that individuals feel old when being referred to as such.
Glad I found you... I'm from the deep south, we were taught "mam(sp?)" is showing great respect for the individual, regardless of age... I'm vintage (not subscribing to "old") and all in NM think its so funny that I show that respect in communication. Thank you for lovely tutorials and sharing. Delightful. God bless you all and have a Merry Christmas.
I understand the Southern etiquette and it warms my heart. But others may not feel the same and may feel uncomfortable because they don’t know how to respond. I tend to use Miss or Mr and their first name. You and Steven just be your sweet selves and you will always be right. I got your two favorite tools and I just love them, thx for the introduction. Blessings to you all.
Exactly what Stevens said I was raised to say yes sir yes ma’am, no matter what. Born in the north, but from the hills of Virginia so it’s considered south plus military family, so yeah we say yes sir and yes ma’am and if you don’t you get a second glance real quick. oh, and by the way, I say yes, sir, to my dog Oskar ,all the time.
I love your videos. As a Mexican woman, I can tell you that I have not perfected an Enchilada sauce yet. It’s not that easy! We have a saying in Spanish: tener sazon “ it means having a flair or talent for cooking AND making it taste good by adding just the right amount of spices and flavor. But, again, I love your videos and I use a lot of your recipes. My cat Sadie Mae sends her love to Gracie!
Yes Ma’am, I also live in S.C. Near Clemson - Greenville area. I was raised to say yes Ma’am and no Sir and to this day it has stuck. If a cashier or someone, even in their teens I automatically say, yes Ma’am. I am in love with your videos!!! They are so nice, one reason is because you use ingredients that I can pronounce and know what they are. lol. You two plus Ma’am are such sweet people and down to earth. Love yall ! Oh and yes, I called my in-laws Mr and Mrs and their last name also. Stay well and happy. 😊
I love the tip you gave about wrapping your chicken in wax paper before you put them in the vaccuum sealer bags! The first time I tried to raw pack I got all my meat cut in squares and I just couldn't do it. Ended up putting in in the freezer. I finally decided to trust the process and just do it. I love it and will never go back!
I love your videos Mandy and just drove through South Carolina on my way to visit my children in Florida. I actually thought of the 2 of you as I was driving. As far as the mam or sir my daughter in law is from Mobile, AL and she said she’d NEVER not call me Miss Nancy! It’s built into your vocabulary and upbringing when you’re from the south or in the military!
I’m from the north, but lived in Fla. for a few years. Loved the way they said “ma’am and “sir” Must admit I never picked up the southern accent but did pick up saying ma’am and sir. Also found it was used instead of saying “what?” I have used minute rice for years, as well as other rice. Love, love your videos!!!!
I just absolutely LOVE the relationship that you and the Common TATER have❤❤❤ The love between the two of you comes through in each and every video. God bless y'all and Merry Christmas ❤❤❤
I'm also from the south. Eaven thow I live in Colorado now. I was born & raised in ft worth Texas. The manneres are a southern thing. I used to say sir & mam alot more. So I think that you've made me realize that I may need to bring the art of good manners back. Thank you so much for that quick reminder. I would love to try the last Cass. It looks really good. Thank you.
In the South, you will also be called "Baby" or "Sweetheart" by the cashier at the store. You've never met them before, but you've already earned a bit of kindness.
I grew up with minute rice. My momma worked all day when I was a teenager and I had to cook for me and my brother. It was minute rice with veggie beef soup over top and leftover rice was rice pudding with milk, sugar and cinnamon.
Hello Mandy, When my husband and I visited Myrtle Beach years ago, we were pleasanty surprised by yes sir and yes ma'am. It is so polite. We just dont hear that level of respect up north (Vermont). Your casseroles today looked yummy and I plan on trying them all. Your love bug, Gracie, reminds me of a friend I had years ago named Jasmin who crossed Rainbow Bridge at 18. Sending hugs from Vermont.
I bought my daughter that cheese grater and onion chopper, to go along with her 11-1Ninja Foodi for Christmas. I know she will love it, because I love mine. Thank you for your recipes and kitchen items.
I get it perfectly Mandy bc I do the same. It is a southern thing of which I’m proud of. We have three grown sons and we taught them from the time they started talking to say ma’am sir, please and thank you. To this day we still get compliments on how mannerly our sons are. I’m proud of that. My late husbands legacy lives on in those men bc they are grown married with kids of their own. They are being taught the same. And Mandy try some homemade enchilada sauce when you have time bc it’s so good!
I’m not from the south but I also refer to everyone as ma’am, sir, Mr., Mrs., Miss. I also see it as showing respect. You are my favorite you tube videos to watch! Love your recipes! Thank you and Merry Christmas to you all! 💕🎄😊

We as Americans as well as individuals, need to show kindness and Respect to others!
This old lady in Texas does say ma’am & sir it’s a respect thing here in the south ♥️✝️🇺🇸

You’ve got some vintage temptations I believe. Beautiful dish. That’s not a pattern I’ve seen and I have several patterns. Nice find.
I will definitely try the sausage casserole.
Love Gracie Lou. She needs her own channel. She is adorable

To answer your question related to Minute Rice, I am 62 years old and never used anything but Minute Rice until this past year when I started watching RUclips channels that used regular long grain rice. I now use both but still prefer the instant rice because it’s what I know best. LOVE your channel and all its content!
Yes ma'am it has always been ingrained in us Southerners to be this way.
Lol
I was born and raised in Alabama Mandy so yes I call everyone ma'am and sir! I've been doing it all my life.
lol I have always called my DIL daughter-in-love from day one.
You’re over 40?!?! Girl you look fabulous! I’m new to your channel and I had no clue your age!
Showing respect is a good thing! Gracie Ma’am!
Yes, ma'am is respect even in the north, Minnesota.
Use Hatch enchilada sauce. So much better! Hatch EVERYTHING!❤❤❤
Yes, Ma'am and Sir is a Southern thing! Once learned always used to show respect. ☺
As a fellow South Carolinian, I can verify that at almost 68 years old, I called my mother-in-law Mrs. XXXX until the day she passed away in 2020. I always called her husband, Dr. XXX. It was just a form of respect and love. I was as close to them as I was to my own mother.
I agree with ma'am is a sign of respect.
You 2 are such a cute couple it’s nice to watch. Your hubby is so funny and adds extra I don’t know how to explain.
Every age is ma’am or sir. I live in NC so it’s just normal. I call my dog ma’am too. It shows respect.
I'm a West Tennessean and I have always called people ma'am and Sir, now matter their age. I got a cheese grater like yours after seeing how easy it is to use. I am in love with that thing!
Aww you two are so sweet! Love the kitty! And saying Ma'am & Sir is being very respectful!!
Yes ma’am, I do the same thing, young and old “yes ma’am and yes sir” it’s the way my mother talked to me and others and that’s where I get it from!🦋
I just love watching your family cooking and eating together. You’re such a fun bunch of people 😊. Thank you for sharing.
I'm from NC and say yes ma'am to all females, even those who could be my grandchildren! Same with gents. Love your channel-you and Steven/Stephen are a hoot!
Yes!!! Southern manners! ❤
I agree, was taught to say sir or madam to anyone of adult age, but do ingrained in me, it comes natural to anyone I talk to!
My son has called our cat ma'am since we brought her home. It gives me such amusement everytime, and when I heard you call Gracie ma'am I laughed out loud. The both of you have me calling her ma'am now too.
That cat is so beautiful and it is always a joy for her cameos.
These look fabulous! Can’t wait to try. Love Gracie’s spunky insistence for food/attention! 🥰
All of these look great. Minute Rice..... yes, for yrs.
6 inch ribbon curls is from Elf! One of my favorites! So excited to make these casserole dishes for my family. They look delicious as always!
Love watching your channel !! Such fun videos with easy to complete recipes for a beginner cook at 56 years old
I just absolutely LOVE the relationship that you and the Common TATER have❤❤❤ The love between the two of you comes through in each and every video. God bless y'all and Merry Christmas ❤❤❤
I love y’all! Can’t wait to try these casseroles! I’m getting married on the 30 th and am so thankful for Mandy n family!!!!
Thank you.
The enchilada casserole is definitely happening this weekend! Yum!!
In the South, you will also be called "Baby" or "Sweetheart" by the cashier at the store. You've never met them before, but you've already earned a bit of kindness.
That's 100% accurate :)
Or darlin' Or sugar. 😊 It's just all respect, we don't know your name, but you are still special.
Greetings Mandy, I accidentally came across your channel recently and wanted to thank you for great meal ideas. Thank you.
The South (for the most part) is super polite!! Glad you had that experience here. Also, I'm glad Gracie helps you have sweet memories of Jasmin :)
I love your recipes and I love your southern style, and your cat Gracie lou is the prettiest cat ive ever seen, and she loves her cheese
Thanks for explaining the sir and ma'am. As a Yankee I never heard these terms used on a regular basis. Great recipes! ❤
I grew up in Oklahoma and we do the ma’am/sir thing. It is a matter of respect. Need more of that these days. :)
